Have you ever noticed that when they (klaine) kiss, Kurt’s hands are usually stiffer and more awkwardish? Do you think there’s a reason?

Are they? This isn't something I've ever thought about!

Time to talk about Klaine kisses!

Original Song

Never really paid attention to hands here, but - if you watch Kurt's right and below, his fingers flay out - kind of as the emotional reaction of being surprised about the kiss. His left hand draws Blaine in for more because, oh god, he is now kissing a boy for the first time, and it's pretty amazing. And then, yes, he drops his hand with a thud because emotions.

I wouldn't say they're stiff here? I think he's just stunned, nervous, excited, and overwhelmed, and his entire body is just going along with that.

And then on the second kiss, Kurt's hand again goes to cup Blaine's cheek, cause mmmm, he wants more making out. ;)

The First Time

You can't see Kurt's hands at all in this scene - but again, he's a bit nervous. He's talking about sex, and really wanting sex with his boyfriend, who is currently turning him on, but somewhat afraid to take that step. And Kurt kind of freeze and goes tense when he's anxious or uncomfortable. His body language, in general, is a bit stiff here because he's not sure what he should be doing, or how he should be reacting to these growing feelings.

I don't really see any stiffness here. At the start of the kiss, they're playing with their hands, and then as it gets a little deeper, Kurt throws his arms around Blaine's shoulders. He's actually relaxing into it, and feels very comfortable and loose with Blaine - which is a nice contrast to the heaviness of the scene and to the impending decision to have sex for the first time. Plus, Blaine just validated that Kurt's romanticism isn't silly - but a big turn on for him, which also makes Kurt melt a little.

The Break Up

This scene is a little weird in general - the blocking is odd and Rachel breaks them up pretty quickly. You don't really see Kurt's hands? He does put his hand on Blaine's shoulder to draw him in, but I don't notice anything odder than the weirdness of the scene in general.

I Do

This is another one where we don't really get to see Kurt's hands. (The shot of the tie being undone is actually Blaine's hand - though Kurt's hand is on Blaine's shoulder.) The only thing stiff here is... well... never mind ;)

Love Love Love

This is actually kinda interesting -- this particular photo is from the BTS footage. The way it is in the aired version, Blaine kind of leans into and, looks like he slightly dips, Kurt. They kind of rotate together, and Kurt places his hand on Blaine's back, kind of for balance, as they twist and turn. It's kind of nicely choreographed to go with the song.

It's also both immediately intense, and yet casually affirming. It definitely makes a statement - as they're out in public with this one. I do wish it was shot a little better (and a little longer) but both Kurt and Blaine are relaxed and having fun with it. I don't really see any tension or stiffness here?

Hey, another BTS photo. However, you can see this pretty clearly in the episode, too. There is an intensity in the moment. Kurt's firmly got his hands on Blaine -- it's a hugely emotional moment, and he grounded and secure in loving and holding onto Blaine. There is a stiffness in Kurt's hands here -- but because he's connecting all of himself to Blaine in this moment, and holding on tightly.

New Directions

Is this real or is it a fantasy? I'm sure Tina will tell you she walked in on this on more than one occasion. ;)

You can't really tell because this is a still -- but Kurt's hand is lazily on Blaine's torso. Blaine's driving the action, Kurt's along for the ride.

New New York

So, the thing that this whole kiss/make out moment kind of confirms is that there's somewhat of a pattern -- Blaine likes to hold Kurt's face, and Kurt has a tendency to hold Blaine's shoulders/body to draw him in for more. (I mean - I'm going to aside here - and say that the actors figured out a style that worked for them, and continued to keep doing it, lol.)

We don't really get to see Kurt's hands. We get to see Blaine's hands cup Kurt's face, and then as it pulls back, Kurt's kind of holding on wrestling with wanting to finish his conversation with Blaine before the inevitability of upcoming sex. And then Kurt is the one who grabs Blaine's hand as they go off to the bedroom.

The Back Up Plan

This is one of those comfortable, married couple kisses that you do with your partner cause you've done it a hundred times. Kurt's hands are firmly in his pocket. And while he has conflicting emotions over the plot, kissing Blaine is the most casual and routine thing at this point.

This is such a weird, little moment - against it's awkwardly shot, but it's really nothing more than the kiss we saw above. We also don't really see Kurt's hands here, so I can't comment on them - other than he does reach out for Blaine to hug him.

Old Dogs, New Tricks

I wrote in my meta - the casual intimacy of familiarity - which, yes, is exactly what this is. Kurt's hands, however, aren't really seen.

The Untitled Rachel Berry Project

This might be my least favorite 'kissing' moment between these two. Because instead of having a shared moment of intimacy after their big talk, they have a stupid line from Blaine - setting up a kind of dumb joke, and an awkwardly angled throw away kiss. I can't even meta hand placement cause the whole thing is just dumbly staged.

The Hurt Locker Pt. 2

So - we're back to normal here - Blaine's hand on Kurt's cheek as Kurt's hand is on Blaine's shoulder rubbing it a bit.

So, getting this far, the pattern continues -- which was somewhat started in The First Time. The Original Song kiss is really the outlier here, tbh.

The thing about Kurt's body language is that -- when he's nervous, or emotional, or anxious, he tends to stiffen up. He plays with his hands, often clasping them back and forth. Here - we see him kind of flaying out, rubbing Blaine's shoulder - because he is nervous going into this -- because it's what he really wants, but he's trying to put all of that behind him, as well as the fact that this is a test to see what/how Blaine really feels about him. So that nervousness plays out with the rubbing of Blaine's shoulder.

And, i suppose I'd argue that even the Original Song kiss wasn't that much of an outlier -- in that Kurt's hand kind of did the same thing, only it wasn't touching Blaine at the time. He's been with Blaine so often at this point, that he can express that nervousness while still touching Blaine.

He also kind of moves his hand to sorta start to put his arm around Blaine's shoulders - as he has done in the past, but pulls back on it... it's interesting. If the context had been different, that would have dissolved quickly into sex.

Transitioning

Kurt's hand is on Blaine's arm during this. It's another moment where Kurt tenses up - his entire body tenses up because -- whoa, was not expecting that. He's definitely taking a moment to register that Blaine has feelings for him still.

The kiss was really more about Blaine than Kurt, but Kurt's hands are reacting the same way the rest of his body is.

A Wedding

Kurt, again, is anxious and feeling very emotional during this moment. The kiss is a bit desperate, like drinking water after almost dying of thirst. Kurt's hands are quick around Blaine's shoulders - as we've seen before, holding on tightly because needs to draw all of Blaine in again.

This is where I wish they had let this moment hold a beat or so longer because right at the end, Kurt starts to relax into it, and his whole body kind of loosens up a bit. His hands remain firm, but not so tense.

This one is much more gentle - Blaine's hand is on Kurt's cheek - Kurt's hand is on Blaine's arm. It's sweet.

Dreams Come True

And we're back to our comfortable, throwaway kisses - where you kiss your partner because it's shared intimacy in a casual way.

this makes me wish we got more of quick kisses on the cheek, or nuzzling into necks. Ah well.

Anyway - as Kurt pulls in for the hug, I don't notice anything unusual about the hands, as he seems relaxed and happy.

So... I'm kind of curious as to what you're seeing Nonny? I'd love to know if you had your own conclusions! I think - for me - it's not necessarily about hands, but more about entire body language. When Kurt gets nervous, anxious, emotional - he tends to stiffen up and draw in - and his whole body goes rigid.

And, it's also clear, starting in Season 3, that the actors found a comfortable way to do kissing scenes, and continued to do them that way pretty consistently throughout the series.

Magolor squinted. "Are you, trying to summon him or-" He started, before his phone began to ring and he yelped at the noise. Beep zipped behind her father, spooked, too. Trying to be the anchor for them again, the Dream Fae spoke up "Wait, it could be someone else-" Reverie began as the Halcandran pulled out his phone and checked who was calling. "No, it's him." He breathed, the Dream Fae managing to squeak "A".

With him thrown off, this left Lor to be a more reliable anchor. "Okay, maybe he’s just checking on you? You were a little hard to get ahold of the past couple days>" She pointed out, though it seemed to worry Beep even more. "Did we get Wiz in trouble?" The Matter whispered, afraid that she'd messed up. This was enough to give the Halcandran a semblance of composure. "N-no, I'm sure it's fine!" Magolor assured her. "Yeah, but, answer it soon before he thinks it's too long." Reverie added, gesturing to the phone like it was going to explode.

"Right!! Hoo, ok." Magolor exhaled. The rest fell silent in anticipation of how the call would go as he straightened up and got ready to lie through his teeth. "Ah, hello, your majesty! Calling to check up on construction? No..? Then, uh, what… Some questions? O-of course, anything you need to know!" The Halcandran obliged, his cheerful facade almost convincing to everyone in the room. "Questions?>" Lor asked, her volume lowered. "What kinda questions-" Beep added on in hushed tone. Her fellow Matter could only give everyone a worried expression. "Rumors? That's, not exactly anything new about me- …serious ones? I can promise you that I haven't been 'up to my old tricks' or anything of that sort, I could show you security footage-" Magolor offered, hoping he wouldn't have to follow up on it. Lor began scrubbing the day's footage, just in case. "…h-huh? Why would, that doesn't even make sense? Why would I know, anything about Dark Matters?" He questioned, sounding confused and concerned. Beep seemed to shrink, understanding what was going on.

"…right, it is a, very serious accusation, I understand that. Yes, I see why you're checking in. But really, I've already messed with something powerful and dealt with the consequences, why would I ever try that again?" Magolor explained, thoroughly genuine in the sentiment, though not in the context. "…that's fair. I have space in my schedule for tomor- Wh-no, of course I'd make space for you even if I was busy! Honestly…" He shook his head. The king still messed with him, even during a call like this.

"Then, 8:30 sharp? Alright, I'll be up bright and early, then. …yes, I've been working on sleep. Ok, see you tomorrow." Finishing the conversation, Magolor hung up and promptly flopped onto the floor back-first. Carefully, Beep approached him. "Wiz, are you in trouble?" She echoed her previous worry. "Not yet… Uh, you guys'll need to leave before tomorrow, sorry..." He apologized, emotionally exhausted.

Her eye welled up. "Forever?" Beep quietly asked, prompting Lor to step in. "It could have gone worse. I think the king just wants to talk, that’s all. Although… if they’re spreading that kind of rumor, it may be a little bit before you all can visit again…>" She conceded, as much as she wanted to assuage the girl's worries entirely. "Yeah… I don't want either of us getting caught. But, I'll still talk to you through the hive mind until then." Magolor promised, his expression saddening. "I'm, still sorry, though… I wanted to hang out more, too."

Pushing aside her worries, the Matter spoke up again. "We can hang out later! Besides, Deeds is cool, y-you’ll be okay!" Beep insisted, taking one of his hands in hers. "…okay?" He paused, looking at her, before squeezing her hand. "O-ok. You're right. One day, I… I really think we'll be able to tell him, at least about you guys." Magolor hoped, making her smile. "We can do it together. Lucky though, I wanna go see the castle, and Dedede." She lamented. "Just… be careful okay? And if something happens tell me and I’ll, I’ll come save you."

"We can… And, I will be, promise." Magolor agreed, rising up from the floor. "Starting to sound like me, isn’t she, Mags?>" Lor teased. "She is, ha! I'm, glad that you care about me that much." He expressed. Beep was quick to pull him into a teary hug and he was just as quick to return it.

In which I'm a clingy mess

(I want to put the whole thing under a cut but I'm afraid it'll be buggy again like last time, because this editor is buggy AF and god forbid you press Ctrl+Z out of habit and paragraphs jump around and/or disappear.)

2023.03.18 Espoon Kultturikeskus (Tapiolasali), Espoo

Part 1.

Senpai drove up to the stage door with the gear trailer at exactly 2:25 PM.

They'd recently upgraded, adding a trailer to the entourage of two vans, and apparently the roadies don't feel confident driving with that yet. (He told me this last week.)

I had warned him last week that I'd be there super early because I had a photo I wanted him to sign, and to give him a page with some comments about the new songs. He had been like, well if you don't get a chance to give that to me directly you can always give it to Pate to pass onward. The fact that he doesn't seem bothered by me writing all these notes to him kinda bothers me in return?

With that taken care of, I went on downtown to deal with another thing and went home to rest a bit and adjust my costume.

Part 2.

Pendants are the new capes. They're significantly less unusual than capes, but they are artistic (rather than just a logo or something, as I've often seen with band jewelry) and individually handcrafted. As such, they were selling much faster than capes. There are a few making-of pics on the artisan's Instagram.

It strongly recalls the cheap metallic arrowhead pendant (like the cheapo ones you get if you search on AliExpress) I had in high school. This is apparently intentional, although it's specifically also intended to be heart-shaped. Sometimes it feels I'm being called back to be the teenage fangirl I never got to be, except with (a bit) more money, so even my teenage accessories are returning with upgrades.

Part 3.

I spotted the one woman whom I'd met up with at the show in July. She hadn't seen them since then (and had fully expected me to be here). She was at the end of the first row, the blonde fangirls and some others in between.

I was kind of hoping they'd play more of the new songs, rather than the same ones they played on the pre-recorded performance that was on TV last week. (I know they have more prepared; the set from the night previous was slightly different.)

At one point the acrobat was helping run a guitar across the stage and of course he was barefoot so he tripped and faceplanted stylishly but it broke. The roadies fixed it but Pate wasn't happy and sent it back.

I watched Pate during Hetken ikuinen and I know just enough guitar to notice that his was tuned down, so my doing the same in my piano cover is consistent and valid ;)

And I guess the guitar solo in Kukaan ei koskaan gets a refresh with each new album or something? (It's tradition for them to play it at every show so they do need to keep it fresh.)

Part 4.

"I don't know if this is an appropriate question, since I'm just a fan doing fan things, but which song should I cover next?"

"...like with the piano? Hmm, that's hard... Meissä asuu elämä could be good? It's a challenging one though."

Am I prepared for this challenge because it's gonna be a TOUGH one (I mean both in creating the arrangement and, uh, considering who's picking this.)

Of course it has to be the ONE song that isn't in the songbook so I actually have to work it out myself.

Realistically though I kind of want to focus on piano covers for a while, since they're a bit easier, and gosh that's a hard song to make a video for. I feel like I'd need access to documentary footage since it's about social justice.

Part 5.

As I left (forgetting to take a selfie of my costume from one of the mirrors in the lobby) I checked the karaoke queue from my phone and it was practically empty, so I picked a drink and a song.

I finished the drink and it was still pretty early, so I wandered back over to the stage door, out of clinginess, mostly. Senpai was still there helping to load stuff. (Dang, it must really suck for him to drive that back to wherever their storage is and then all the way back home.)

I told him that nobody went to karaoke with me as I had anticipated (I'd mentioned this in my note, but I don't think he'd had time to read it yet) so I was gonna go home and cry.

"Or sing?"

"I already sang Kukaan ei koskaan and nobody there knows who the fuck I am so I'm going home and crying."

Other stuff.

It's not like I want to be anywhere else doing anything else. I just wish there were more people to experience my happy moments with me. And maybe capture them so I have something to remember them by?

I often imagine myself as a character in a film and it's especially tragic that I never get to see what that film looks like from the other side.

Like having to ask strangers to take my self-portraits so I don't actually get the opportunity to set up the shot exactly how I want it.

Speaking of self-portraits.

Here's my costume minus cape, I went larpy and took the blue cape to be kind of color-coordinated with the album cover (it's not quite the same shade). I'm just missing a brown t-shirt but the price of the new t-shirts is a bit steep at 40€ and my pants are already brown.

(As I've written previously I put a lot of thought into my outfits!!)

(They got party noisemakers last summer and I was like lol??? why??? But then I got the sword holder and actually it was exactly to acquire and put the horn into, so I haven't taken the plastic off yet.)

Other stuff, 3.

Some of the groupies have... roles. For example, there's at least two whom you could describe as the "embedded photographers". Of course they have an official, paid photographer who gets to run around, but these two also have nice cameras and a significant number of the concert snapshots they post on social media are from them.

And then there's the blonde fangirls, well, I'm not sure how I'd describe their role. They're just extremely fangirly and collect set lists. (And if I pieced together the puzzle correctly, it's one of them who drew the artwork on the playing cards. So in a sense it is fan art even though she was commissioned to do them.)

So what's my role? Cape model? Walking clingy sob story?

Fair warning: This one is long.

A few days after her return, Noceda made her way into the Blight manor. She hadn't seen anyone else from the "good old days".

Today, Amity should be finished moving back into her old room. Now that the "empress" had returned, Luz needed a place to stay.

The Owl house didn't seem like it would be accepting new tenants. Amity said she could stay at the "New Coven" HQ. Belos's former castle might as well be put to good use.

Stepping through the front door, she expected to be greeted by either stuffy parents or mischievous siblings. Neither seemed to be home. Just a familiar face waiting to report her news.

Luz: "Good afternoon, my lovely gf! I'm ready for my homecoming party!"

Amity: "I've already updated Willow and Augustus. They should be ready to speak with you after some time."

Luz(folding her arms): "Why so formal, Blight? Is it the house? Maybe we should get our own-".

Amity: "Everyone's going to need time to take all this in, even me. But what about you? Any trouble moving back into your old castle?"

Luz (sarcastically): " You mean Belos's hand-me-downs? You know, after I killed him. Not so bad once you get passed the stares and constant reminders of who I was."

Amity: "Sorry."

Wait, why was she apologizing?

Luz nonchalantly shrugged.

Luz: "Meh, there was vacancy."

Speaking of vacancy, even for a big house, this was unusually quiet.

Luz( jokingly): "So, when's the party? I want to see everyone. Where are they?"

Amity: "That's going to have to wait. My family's already on their way to a conference. We'll be gone for four days."

Luz: "Sounds like high class stuff. Perfect for a romantic getaway, like in the movies. Ok, I'm in!"

Amity: "You can't come."

Luz( pouting): "Huh, why not? I was technically at the top of this food chain. What could possibly stop this empress from returning to high class society?"

Amity: "Me. Remember, everyone was afraid of you. You're supposed to be a secret. Everyone at HQ has orders not to mention you being back."

Sticking her hands in her pockets, the sulking latina turned to leave.

Luz: "Fine! I'll just hang out with Willow and Gus."

Amity: "Those two are busy. Willow has official coven business. Augustus works with his father. They can't drop everything just because you're back."

Stopping mid step, she glanced back to hear about the others.

Luz: "Eda? King?"

Amity dodged her gaze.

Amity: "We haven't been able to reach them. They left Bonesborough to cure the curse... with Lilth."

For a brief moment, red flickered in Luz's eyes. Unfortunately, Amity caught glimpse of that. She made her way to the staircase.

Amity: "Enjoy the alone time."

Being left alone wasn't a fun thought.

Luz: "Hold on, you sure there's no way I could tag along?"

Amity: "Not without some assurances."

Luz: "Like a certain glowing circle floating in midair?"

Got her...

Amity: "The everlasting oath will only work if we're both on board with this. If you're willing to promise give up your magic, it could work. Just for four days, ok? I want to breathe easy. "

Luz: "Ok, but on one condition. We don't tell anyone else about this. There's probably a line of witches who want to take a shot at me."

A purple halo was spawned before them. Amity held her hand out, ready to begin. But just as Luz held out hers, it crackled. A burst of red in its hue, it zapped both their wrists before dissolving. The slight scorch marks seemed to send a clear message.

Amity( disappointed): "I knew this wouldn't work."

Luz: "Hang on, one more time. Close your eyes."

If you looked up "suspicious" in the dictionary, you'd see this moment.

Amity's narrowed eyes tried to read Luz's intentions. The suspect raised her right hand and put the other one on her chest.

Luz: "No tricks, I swear."

Complying with her request, Amity didn't peek.

Luz's eyes darted for the closest reflective object. Settling on a mirror, she knew who else was staring back.

Luz( mouthing the words): "Come on, help me out here."

Trying once more, two hands joined together without fail.

Luz: "See? No sweat. Now, when do we leave?"

Amity: "Tonight, I'm almost done packing. But there's something else I've got to say. My family's arranged for all of us to have our own rooms, for privacy. So..."

Amity brought a hand to Luz's face, smiling.

Amity( patting Luz's cheek): "Good luck finding a last minute vacancy."

And with that, a slack jawed girl was left to wait at the door.

Luz: "Fine, I don't need magic. I've got a dangerous rep!"

[The morning after Luz's return, at New Coven HQ]

Gus: "We've got to drop everything and deal with this!"

Amity: "No, we need to focus. How did she even get here?"

Willow(sarcastically): "Maybe you can find the answer at your next book club meeting? Spoiler alert! Luz's pages ahead of us."

Gus has been working with his father. Though, keeping his finger on the town's pulse was definitely a useful thing. From hearing rumors to reading reports, Gus was the group's ears.

He'd barged into Amity's briefing. Reports of crystal balls disappearing overnight. That definitely seemed like New Coven business.

Of course, it seemed like a good time to inform them of last night's visitor.

Gus: "This can't a coincidence. First, she shows up. Then, robberies happen all over town, overnight! What next? The town gets knee deep in a potion flood?"

Willow: "That doesn't sound that bad, all things considered."

Gus(hysterical): "Oh, sure! Why don't we just ask our former dictator? Hey, Luz, how bad are things going to get?"

They took the news about as well as could be expected.

Gus: "We can't just ask her. She'd probably get scary and wipe out the town."

Willow( putting a hand on Gus's shoulder): " Come on, Gus, this is Luz we're talking about. She's got a big imagination. She'd probably come up with something way worse."

Ok, that's enough panicking.

Amity: "She's not going to wipe out Bonesborough... today. Look, right now we've got questions that need answers. And each of us still have jobs to do. Augustus, I want you to keep up to date on the investigations. Willow, I need you to go to the tree. The portal's gone, but there might be something left behind. Anything that could give us a hint.

Get to it!"

This was normally the part where everyone's dismissed. But Willow waited to shut the door behind Gus.

Willow: "Now that he's gone, we need to clear the air."

Amity just sat down, resting her head on her arms.

Willow: "Do you know why I became your personal assistant?"

Amity(sheepish): "Because you're that nice of a witch and couldn't let me fall apart?"

Willow: "Luz meant alot to us. But she meant a whole lot to you. If anyone was going to get her back, it was you. You were the key to seeing her again. And I wanted to be there to see my friend again.

...

Guess I dropped the ball on that one, huh?"

These two might not be friends, but they had each other's backs.

Willow: "So, do you trust her?"

Amity: "I don't know."

Smirking, Willow wrapped one arm around Amity's shoulder.

Willow: "Well, maybe we can do something about that? See, while you were obviously crushing on her from afar..."

Amity(slightly blushing): " Obviously?!"

Willow(smug): " I was learning up close about schemes, plots, and ruses from a master of shenanigans."

Willow's confidence had improved.

Willow: "I've got a plan. If everything goes well, you might get everything you hoped for.

Twoo wuv's kiss saves Luz and both of you get a happy ending."

She took jabs at her new boss when she could. Payback for the years of bullying.

While Amity became beet red, Willow continued.

Willow(whispering): "Here's what you need to do..."

[Bonus]

The afternoon after the conference, at the Blight manor.

The "undercover" duo knocked at the Blight manor entrance.

The family should be back, by now.

They were met by the twins, Emira and Edric.

Willow: "We need to talk to Amity."

Emira: "She's sleeping."

Gus: "It's four in the afternoon."

Edric: "She didn't get a wink, last night."

A smiles appeared on Amity's siblings.

Edric: "Want to see why?"

Not even waiting for an answer, he brought up a scroll. The footage was ready to go.

Edric: "We had a ball to cap off the night."

Emira: "But Luz wanted to do something special."

There, on the screen, Luz stood in the spotlight. Holding the mic and a spanish guitar, she broadcasted for the dance hall.

Luz: "This one goes out to a special someone here tonight. It's called, 'You're in my heart'."

Amity could be seen hiding her face, as she tried to excuse herself.

Emira: "We told her, Amity left during her performance."

Edric: "So, she asked for our help in finding mitten's window."

Pulling up another recording, this one seemed to take place outside.

Luz: "I saw this in a movie, once."

As the shot panned out, the eyes of these two detectives nearly popped out at the screen. What they saw could only be described as an army of Luz clones. The one up front, holding the guitar, began to play. The rest of them sang behind her.

Luz army(echoing): "Love of my life, you've hurt me.

You've broken my heart, and now you leave me."

The Blight twins collapsed from laughter.

The two guests looked at each other.

Gus(confused): "Are we... sure that's not the real Luz?"

Willow: "I thought Luz wasn't supposed to do magic?"

Edric(astounded): "That's why she asked for our help!"

Emira: "I just thought she was trying to get in good with her future in laws. Those powers glyphs weren't a bad start."

Before Willow could ask about that, Gus had his own question.

Gus: "When did you even learn this song?"

Blight twins(in unison): "Last night."

Willow: "No one tried to stop her during any of this?"

Emira: "People were too sacred they'd set her off. I mean, even we had trouble believing she wasn't going to start... you know."

Edric: "That is, until she wanted to pull something over on Amity. And really, who are we to try and stop her from redeeming herself?"

Emira: "Yeah, shame she made Luz walk home."

Slowly, Willow pieced together a realization.

Willow: "Time's not up yet and she's walking back alone.

Wait, did you post this on Penstagram?!"

I've missed your Rebecca theories! Not that there's been anything to salivate over lately. Her sketchiness has died down a bit. I still think she's sketchy but that may be residual bias. But this rebooted Ross connection is suspicious. Did they really need her to be his unsuspecting drug dealer? I'm sure he can steal pills from other people who he didn't sleep with and possibly fathered a child with. Had no idea she even took painkillers.

I’m glad you sent me this, anon, because I have too many thoughts on all of this right now so was planning on making a post anyway haha!

I just want to note first though that I’m actually really enjoying everything with Ross and Rebecca these days - individually and together. I’d always liked them as a pairing (admittedly they were never on the scale of Ross and Donna, but they worked far better together than Dross ever did for me), but I’m genuinely loving this dynamic of these two lost souls supporting each other right now. It feels very natural and I feel invested in both storylines. I think Ross’s storyline has been really strong and moving, and Mike Parr’s been giving some really compelling and heart-wrenching performances. It’s nice to see him be given something proper to get his teeth into again.

And as for Rebecca - theories aside - I’m actually really enjoying / appreciating the direction they’re taking her character in nowadays. (I’m not saying I’m suddenly a Rebecca fan haha, but I’m appreciating her as a character nowadays.) Again I feel invested in her storyline and it’s actually really nice to see Emily get to do more, she’s having to highlight all these different sides to Rebecca’s personality right now and I think she’s doing a really good job. Because you know what they’ve done, anon? By actually taking Rebecca’s character in a direction, rather than just leaving her floating neither here nor there because they just never committed one way or the other, they’ve actually given the character some substance. And that’s why I’m now able to enjoy / appreciate her as a character. Because now she actually feels like one. To me at least. That substance, however, still doesn’t seem to extend to Seb and this brings me to the theories…

So this is where I currently stand on Theory Realm - I kept saying before that I’m not going there because personally I’m enjoying the narrative the way it is and have never wanted a twist for the sake of it. For me, a paternity twist and The Theory always went hand in hand as it was the decision to make Robert cheat in the first place (rather than the presence of the baby) which I found disappointing because I just didn’t feel like that was Robert at that stage (although a couple of days after The Incident, I wrote a mammoth post trying to get into the mindset of the storyliners/writers as they got into the mindset of Robert in order to make sense of why they felt like it was how Robert would handle the situation - yet another post which was never posted but I found it helpful at the time to understand the decision haha.). But I’ve also always maintained that the best way, for me, for The Theory to play out would have been as part of Robert’s breakdown and therefore by Christmas. So personally I’m quite happy for the narrative to continue the way it is now - saying that, I poured so much into the theories they’re always going to have a little piece of my heart and part of me can’t help but still want The Theory as @itwasjustmisplaced and I dedicated so much to it and of all the theories we discussed constantly, it’s the only one not to happen onscreen. So for the sake of myself and Taryn, and our sanity, it would still be quite nice and exciting haha! So that’s where my confliction on Theory Realm lies and why I’ve said I wasn’t going there, but it’s all still been going on in Theory Realm throughout and with each passing episode it feels like the show itself is literally trying to drag me back there… So, here we go, anon…

Rebecca’s relationship with Seb. I said her character feels like it has substance which it was lacking before - which is evident just in her interactions with other characters being far less about plot, but this doesn’t extend to Seb. Apart from her breaking down when she handed Seb over to Robert, we didn’t see any more of that time from her perspective - and we are actually seeing her perspective these days, so why not with Seb? Why not show her struggling without him, particularly as he was the one constant in her routine and structure which would surely be crucial and have a big impact on her symptoms? Instead we got Robert’s perspective and Aaron bonding with Seb, while Rebecca disappeared until she popped up in the pub (wearing that grey jumper) looking for a job (with Charity commenting on her lack of blinking, I hope you all picked up on that haha)… So is this because Seb is staying as a permanent fixture with Robert and Aaron, or because he’s going to be taken away from them and therefore it was necessary to build that bond as a family (which was always part of The Theory and one of the reasons the break-up parting didn’t make sense to me at the time.)..? (Or alternatively was it a simple matter of timing because look at Vanessa - she got suspended but we haven’t seen anything since of how she’s coping with being in a different role, how Paddy and Rhona are coping with the workload without her etc. Sometimes it is just down to screentime and other storylines taking precedence at that point.) Because what we are getting with Rebecca and Seb is Lachlan feeding her the line that Robert would still try to take Seb away from her. Are we due that custody battle that was prematurely speculated about after all..? And if so, will Joe Tate play a role as - sadly - he’s also been a poignant connecting factor in all of this…

The Ross connection. (They had already planted the painkillers seed by the way - when she left Seb on his own it’s because she’d run out of painkillers for her headaches so went to get some from the shop, but forgot when she was there and came home with only a magazine and some chocolate.) Now, on the surface, it kind of looks like they’ve just re-established the connection between Ross and Rebecca but actually their storylines have been connected throughout. Even as far back as January, when Robert was planning on taking Seb, Ross was there (with Moses) buying into the situation with his quips about Adam not being able to run forever… Also note, Ross has actually only been onscreen with Seb once - helping Robert with the pram and his stuff outside the café. That’s it. But actually, the biggest connection is that they’re both going through health storylines right now and these have been intricately linked from the start…

The day of Ross’s attack, Rebecca had a turn and fainted;

Which brings me to the first point of the Joe factor - obviously it was Joe who was supposed to be in Ross’s shoes, but instead it was he and Graham who found and helped Ross;

The day Robron reunited - alternatively known as that time Robert left the front door open for a whole night - Ross was alone at home, unable to open his front door and afraid when the pizza delivery guy came knocking, while two (I think) doors down we also had a shot of Robert closing the door, not wanting to open the front door on which Aaron was knocking - except eventually he did, and he left that door wide open (intentionally or not haha)… The door to Rebecca and Seb’s home…;

Point two of the Joe factor - Rebecca went and attacked Joe - who was the one supposed to be on the receiving end of the attack on Ross - and when he discovers the cctv footage of Graham with Simon (aka clues to Ross’s attack) we think this is the footage he’s about to show Graham but instead he plays Rebecca’s attack on himself;

Point three of the Joe factor - Joe had Rebecca arrested to get one over on Robert. Note, Rebecca was wearing her blouse from The Incident night for the first time in a long time and obviously there was quite a big focus on it at the police station… Now, Robert went after Joe for this, as predicted, so does that make the speculated custody battle seem more likely..? Personally I don’t think Joseph Tate is above manipulating an ill and vulnerable Rebecca (with the help of Lachlan’s whisperings of course) to try to take Seb away from Robert and maybe due to the legality side that’s how the paternity test finally comes about to prove Robert’s rights - imagine Joe’s delight if it turned out Seb wasn’t Robert’s son at all…

And then of course Rebecca and Ross finally started sharing scenes together again…

Rebecca and Charity defending Ross against those awful girls - two exes: one, the mother of his son who was revealed to be his as a “Who’s the daddy?” twist and who has proven to be Ross’s anchor and purpose to get him through all of this right now (there’s been such a heavy focus on his relationship with Moses and lines of dialogue like “Am I still your daddy?” which could be read into if you want to go there, but personally I don’t want to detract from the actual story they’re showing with Ross as I’ve found it all heartbreaking.); the other, the mother of a son who could have been his except the question of “Who’s the daddy?” never came…

Their bonding and hanging out together, so supportive of each other, but Ross alluding to something more happening and saying “It’s not like you’d remember it anyway.” Which on its own doesn’t seem like anything more than a Ross quip, but this was while Rebecca was wearing The Incident blouse…

Now, add all of this to the fact that Lachlan used the line the other night about “all of our secrets” - plural, not just the truth of how the crash happened… And remember Rebecca said, “The thing about secrets is you have to be comfortable keeping them.” Well Rebecca isn’t comfortable with that anymore, she no longer has that level of control over the information she reveals… And on that front, isn’t it cruelly ironic that we, the audience, are being treated to a trip down memory lane for Rebecca while she herself is struggling to remember anything? Not just with Ross, but with Debbie (responsible for Ross’s attack and discussing Joe - connections) and also bringing up Vic’s “obsession” with having a baby… If there was to be a twist, they’ve set it up perfectly to allow themselves to be a bit creative with it… Maybe we will get that Memento style flashback we all asked for after all. :P But if that were to happen, why not go a little further and give us an extra big twist? Maybe Rebecca’s initial injuries were sustained much earlier and the crash exacerbated them - perhaps that bonfire night when she was knocked out and Chrissie left her for dead was the start of it all, maybe this is why there has been inconsistencies with her character, maybe this is why she regularly told people different stories, maybe she never slept with Robert at all but like him she just assumed because she couldn’t remember..? And maybe this is why she keeps wearing that black and white coat again which she wore that bonfire night but hadn’t actually been around much last year… I mean, this is just a wild bit of theorising for fun, but with the situation they’ve put her into almost anything is possible haha.

So yeah, I still don’t know how I feel about the prospect of anything happening, anon. Literally all the signs are still there, it’s just how we choose to interpret them. And I’m just not sure at this stage because I’ve moved on with the narrative, but still there’s a niggle. Alas.
