Note that Thessaloniki is also known as Thessalonica.
The submitter commented, “It's a major city in Greece and big European tourist destination, but there's a shocking number of people, especially Americans, who have never heard of it”

These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

Today we celebrate the memory of the Holy Virgin Martyr Anysia of Thessalonica. Saint Anysia lived in Thessalonica during the time of the Roman Emperor Maximian. After the death of her parents, who had raised her in deep Christian piety, she sold all her possessions and gave her riches to the poor. She then began to live a monastic life of fasting, vigil, and prayer. During this time, Emperor Maximian issued an edict that allowed anybody to kill Christians without punishment. After much blood had been shed, Anysia was on her way to church when she was stopped by a pagan soldier who demanded that she accompany him to a certain pagan festival to offer sacrifice to the gods. Anysia gently pulled away but the soldier violently grapped her back and tried to pull the veil off her head in a provocative manner. She boldly shoved him away, spitting in his face saying, “my Lord Jesus Christ forbids you!” In a violent rage, the solder ran her through with his sword and thus the Virgin Martyr Anysia earned herself the double crown of virginity and martyrdom and 20 years of age. May she intercede for us always + #saint #anysia #thessalonica #salonica #thessaloniki #virginmartyr #martyr #martyrdom #emperor #romanemperor #maximian #persecution #christian #christians #pagan #orthodoxchristian #veil #orthodox #saintoftheday (at Thessalonikki, Greece) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmxEy9RBuet/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Carter, Philip. “Spiritual Direction And The Wonder Of The Incarnation.” In Presence 28/2 (June 2022) 6-22
The dichotomy in the opening paragraphs of this article gives the implicit impression of the dichotomy of the human race. There are those who believe in the incarnation and those who do not. Quoting Armstrong’s view that the earth could be blotted out by his thumb brings us into humility…

An Example to all the believers today 1st Thessalonians One
“An example to all the believers.”
The Apostle Paul, in his letter to Thessalonica, made a bold declaration to the believers in that city. He wrote, “You became an example to all the believers.” They heard the word of God, which the apostle preached. They weighed the truth spoken with the words written in the Old Testament. Then the conviction of the apostle’s testimony and in some cases,…
