Murderer
BAM-BAM-BAM
"Open the door!" Annabel hears her father's yelling, while she's panting beside piano.
She turns around to see shaking door and Leo franticaly barricading it. Her fiance (even if it's not exactly like that anymore) trembles slightly from fear, adrenaline and effort, her gun rattles at her side.
"We need to move fast" Leo- Lenore tells her, marching past Annabel to check the windows. "Perhaps we'll be able to-"
"Please, pet, we both know my father alerted the whole mansion. We won't be able to run. And even if we were, then what are you planning to do?"
She sees Lenore's back stiffen, finely shaking hand grips her wounded hip. Lenore slowly turns around.
"I got the plan B in that case."
Annabel watches her taking revolver from its holster. Lenore opens cylinder to show wide-eyed Annabel two bullets.
"We may not said our vows but I promised in my heart long time ago to love you to the moment I die and beyond" Lenore puts the cylinder back in and steps forward. Her eyes taking the shine of madness. "Let's leave this world to the one where we are free to love."
Annabel follow her actions with incredulous eyes and finally smirks.
"Very funny, pet. Why should we both die?" She steps from piano, joltting the sheet music. Papers are flying on the floor. "We'll just say that I didn't know anything" pounding on the door becomes more frantic "Then I'll find the way for you not to be executed. Then we'll both live."
"What the hell, Annabel?" Lenore screams, waving the gun around. "Do you hear yourself!? What is your idea of living after that!?"
"We both knew that farce is not endless. Yes, I will need to marry some guy, you will be sent to asylum... But! I will ensure that it's a nice one and I'll be able to visit you sometimes." Annabel turns back to piano, fully immersed in the plan. Yes, the life will be hard, but it's deffinetly the most perfect outcome! "And after many years I think I would be able to get you out of there. Perhaps under pretence of teaching my kids to-"
When Annabel facing Lenore again, the blue eyes are dark and empty. Her hands are dropped without any strength. Lenore's face is filled with so much agony, that it's not even betrayal. Like she knew why Annabel was saying all of that but the mere thought pained her so much she wasn't able to move.
"So all of this is just some game to you" she murmurs and before Annabel has the chance to react, Lenore turns to the door, stiff. "Listen! I just wanted to love! And now, that Annabel Lee know I'm a woman, she hates me. Have it your way!"
Annabel takes confused step forward, mouth open to say something she will never remember.
And Lenore faces her again, gun to the head, with mad smirk that Annabel liked once.
"I love you, Annie. Please, at least cry about me a little. Even if it's a lie".
And then she shoots.
Annabel is not able to think, to move, to breathe. Lenore's body drops to the accomponiment of her father desparate screams. In Annabel's world everything deadly quite.
Please, she hadn't loved Lenore enough to go down with her, but it hasn't meant, she wanted her dead.
She hadn't loved Lenore enough. Hadn't loved. Hadn't...
Annabel looks away with force, tears her eyes from the pool of blood. And sees the sheet music that fell earlier. Lenore said she had surprise.
On the paper blood stains the title: "Annabel Lee".
And suddenly her heart is torn out of her chest. Annabel throws herself forward by the sheer will. She gathers Lenore's head to her chest, watching her blood blooming on her dress like a heart.
Annabel laughs mirthlessly. She doesn't have a heart. Lenore was her heart. And Annabel decieved even herself about her feelings.
She hadn't allowed herself to love Lenore fully, to open to her as fully as she had.
Annabel takes the gun with one remaining bullet to her chest, right upon Lenore's blood.
If there is somewhere after death, I wish we could be together again. I'll do anything for you, destroy everything in your way, sacrifice everyone and myself. And I will love you as you deserve to be loved.
When Deans tell her that she was killed by the person who loved her above all else, she almost giggles. Because of course she was.
The moment life faded from Lenore's eyes, Annabel Lee ceased to exist.

My dream is to have a huge spiky gothic style castle where I section it off and each section has wildly different over the top aesthetic decor than the one before it.
Like the first section, where you walk in is super normal, just average house decor, it’s a living room and some guest rooms, very normal, the only thing weird here is that the carpet is orange and the walls have floral wallpaper from the 50s. Then, you walk fown a hall and BAM. Everything is ocean themed.
There’s a huge mural on one wall that makes it look like your in a bubble window underwater with all sorts of fish.
A bubble machine and ocean sound machine are going at all times. Sometimes you hear “yellow submarine” by the beetles playing
theres a tv that shows live footage of a reef and there’s a big saltwater aquarium on another section.
All the creatures have names, some of the rocks even have names, there’s a key on the side with all the names and what kind of creature/rock it is.
My cool butler takes care of them, he’s paid very well and has like 90 paid vacation days, when he’s on vacation I take care of the fish, he reminds me sometimes over text, and then reminds me that looking at water is not the same as drinking it and that I need to stay hydrated, he also tells me things about his vacations, like which foods I should ask the chef to make, or learn to make myself, like I said he’s very cool, anyways, off topic,
The next section is COMPLETELY GOTH.
You’ve stepped out of the submarine and into the vampires cave.
There are little bats and spiders and cats and ravens and crows EVERYWHERE. ITS AWESOME.
I have a pet raven in a room, her name is Lenore, she likes to sit on my shoulder, I take her to other parts of the house sometimes, she’s very smart.
There’s also my pet tarantula fiddlesticks, fiddle for short, I take him out of his enclosure sometimes but he doesn’t leave the goth section.
Speaking of the goth section, everything is red purple blue white and black, mostly black.
There’s goth music playing at all times, there’s a ballroom that I use to host goth club nights, it’s a castle after all, there’s a big French door that leads directly to the ballroom from the garden. It’s very cool.
Just when you think you’ll never escape the darkness and ungodly amount of moon cycles on the wall, you see a light.. BAM MAGIC FOREST.
Everything is green and orangish brown.and pastel
There’s fairy lights EVERYWHERE.
I keep my pet ponies Shorty and Sprinkles and my guard llama Dude, in a large closed off pasture near the garden, they get lots of apples and sugar cubes and hay along with all the yummy grass they graze on, you cannot ride any of them because they are too small, but I play with them everyday and teach them tricks every once in a while.
Back inside there are plants everywhere
there’s sparkles everywhere
There are bean bags that look like rocks and a bookcase that looks like it was built into a fake tree
there’s a little snack bar with cupcakes and rock candies and brownies and carrot cakes and pies and water and fruit flavored sodas and fun pastries.
Chef makes the snacks, Chef is cool, he’s really strong, I pay him a lot of money and he also has 90 days paid vacation a year, he mostly texts me recipes to ask if I think I’d like them. Chef also likes weed, he never makes weed brownies on the clock though. He’s very responsible.
I hire college students from the college near by at $25 an hour to run the fairy snack bar.
I host lots of parties here, parents can call and ask to rent it out for fairy themed birthday parties in a real life castle, of course it’s only a section of the castle, but it’s still a castle.
there’s another French door entrance but the glass has floral stained glass, it’s professionally done, it’s very pretty
There’s a dressing room with lots of outfits and dresses and they all look magical and they come in many different sizes, they are all thoroughly washed properly after each use by my maid. She’s really cool, she knows how to do a lot of stuff. Like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and race car driving, and knitting. She also gets paid very well and has 90 paid vacation days, I have a squish on her and she’s very inspiring, she teaches me the skills if I ask. She’s very cool. I text her pictures of things I make and she gives me encouragement. All my staff get along very well and it makes me happy. We have tea time and dinner together, it’s great.
And back to the fairy section there’s another ball room covered in fairy lights and plants, real and fake, there’s a DJ that takes all requests but otherwise plays music directly from ballroom scenes in fantasy movies and shows. He also gets paid well.
It’s very cool
I will add to this later but right now I do not have time

What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them?
Hm, that's a tough one. Djek used to be a lot cooler. Izjik used to be a water elf. Astra's name used to be Dust, and she fit the wandering, nameless cowboy/samurai archetype a lot more closely. Mashal, Sepo, and Twenari have stayed pretty close to the same.
Ivander, though, used to be an elf woman named Lenore who made a deal with a devil. She got powers as a boon, but teetered between life and undeath as a drawback. She didn't have an illusion, but wore a mask instead. I never really came up with a reason as to why she needed these powers, I just think maybe she didn't know all of what she was asking for.
I do have a sketch, though!
Tumblr media
Anyways, eventually I realized I didn't have room for devils in my setting, and it'd be more entertaining if his patron was of a different source. His gender got swapped for reasons I forget, he became not an elf anymore, and bam, there's Ivander! He and Lenore did keep some very similar vibes stylistically, at least.
Thanks for the ask!

Top 10 Favorite Anime/Animation I watched this year
10. The Misfit of Demon King Academy
This was one of those “it’s new so imma watch it cuz i’m bored” shows but it turned out to be fairly decent. The show was particularly amusing with the magic and completely OP main which is why it made my top 10 for this year.
Tumblr media
9.Nil Admirari no Tenbin
When it comes to reverse harem’s, this is a good one! This is adapted from an otome game so if you want to get with all the guys, you can ;). From all the male lead choices I prefer Akira, however it is on my top ten for it’s sheer ability to make me melt with all these sexy 2D men!
Tumblr media
8. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
I really thought that Demon Slayer, especially with it’s AMAZING animation and story that it’d be lower on the numbered list, however, despite it’s incredible everything I just found the other ones on my list to be more in the forefront of my mind. it is still an AMAZING anime and if you haven’t seen it (come on, who hasn’t?!), I highly recommend it!
Tumblr media
7.  That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
I was suprised when I was thinking of my top anime watched of this year that my mind went so quickly to Slime. It’s my fiance’s favorite anime currently but I found that it was a generally feel good anime with an OP mc. It’s one of those animes you can watch without getting heartburn/be fearful for really bad things happening, which was a breath of fresh air for me (a lot of the time I like watching things that rip my soul out lol).
Tumblr media
6. Tower of God
Oookay...Tower of God was sooo good. The animation is a bit rough for the first few episodes but, it being a Webtoon first, I can see why I liked it so much. The story is very ‘hunger games’, and I love that vibe being put into an anime. There will undoubtedly be more of this series in the future (the webtoon is extremely long, to which i don’t have the fortitude to start ^_^’‘) and I can’t wait to see more of it. Also, Bam x Khun ship gives me life.
Tumblr media
5. The Millionaire Detective: Balance Unlimited
This anime came out of no where for me! I saw some posts on tumblr of a sexy slicked-back-hair guy and bing-bam-boom, i watched each episode the day it came out. I was hooked and not just cuz I ship both the lead boys together (i mean, kinda a little but..*ahem*) but it gave me the fix I needed for an investigative anime that I’ve been looking for for a while now.
Tumblr media
4. Castlevania (Season 3)
Being incredibly impressed by the first 2 season, it’s no surprise this is number 4 for me. It just got better and better, animation and writing. I cannot wait for the next season! Not to mention that Lenore x Hector ship was all kinds-a spicy.
Tumblr media
3. Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Season 2)
Number 3 and for good reason. It has comedy, romance, slapstick, and general fun-time atmosphere that anyone can watch and be entertained. I cannot wait for another season and OVA! It definitely kept the COVID blues away while I was stuck inside.
Tumblr media
2. She-Ra & The Princesses of Power (All 5 seasons)
I just recently watched She-Ra on recommendation of @tenkinos and it did not disappoint which is why it was #2 spot. A bit quirky at times (Seahawk) and angsty (Catra), and painstakingly stubborn and brave (Adora), every character had something to offer and I love that in any animated show. It’s definitely a Netflix show to remember and watch if you haven’t already.
Tumblr media
1. Violet Evergarden Movie: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll
The very best i’ve seen this year has GOT to be Violet Evergarden movie. The animation is like nothing I’ve ever seen and there’s such subtle beauty in everything that’s drawn and written that it was no competition for me. Eventhough this particular movie came out in 2019, I watched it in 2020. I haven’t seen the NEW NEW one yet, okay... ^_^’
Tumblr media
***There were certainly MANY anime/shows that I watched this year (being in COVID furlough from my job for the better part of it), so here are some other mentions that were also very very good but I didn’t put them on the top 10 for ‘technical’ reasons b/c I watched them before 2020 or they just weren’t enough to make the list for me. ^_^’
Jujutsu Kaisen (currently watching and it is phenomenal)
Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious
The Dragon Prince (Season 3)
Kakegurui
Dragon’s Dogma

Biggest and honestly best plot twist of season 3 was the judge being a goddamn serial killer.
Like, the whole season he was kind of a cool dude. He seemed chill and then BAM reveal in the aftermath of the entire town being attacked by demons that he was a serial killer and he spent his time sending children to their deaths and taking their shoes as trophies. Goddamn.
Also Lenore. I don’t like what happened but I LOVE how ruthless she is. Anyway uuuh Alucard needs some serious therapy good god.
Hopefully season 4 is better.

🍹 WHAM BAM HIT ME
Moonlight dances over her, makes her look phantom, something like waiting, unbecoming of her eyes. Too lonely. She was made for sunshine, a warmth that never comes once she realizes how cold this world is. He stands close by like a shadow, somehow glowing under this light. Like he was made to bloom here, searched on the edge of her tank leaning too close to the water. Only, there’s nothing to fear from her, second skin out of reach, only floating on her back. It would be easy to drown her like this. The thought, however, doesn’t even cross her mind.
She catches the ends of his hair between curious fingers, turning it in the light. Observant: notices how it absorbs the light, void sucking in whatever it can and never spitting anything out. Naive: she finds it lovely, treats it with tenderness instead.
A new bite marks the skin underneath her forearm. She had cried out when he’d given it to her, but it was forgiven quickly. He wraps his hand around the mark and brings her hand to his mouth, something she hopes is an apology, even if he’s never said sorry for anything. Does she remember she’s named after a dead girl? In this light, the darkening mark looks like the moon inverted.
(There are things that live in the darkest parts of the ocean, their ghost lights as strange and as frightening as the blackness surrounding. They use the lure to survive. As a child she had nightmares of a tank with water dark as pitch, like tar, and she was trapped with the creature inside. It was horrifying them. But she looks at him now and feels no fear.)
Observant: she sees the way his eyes glint, the sharpness of his teeth and nails. Naive: she traces him soft and tender every time.
Her hand is offered, smile like his own in every way but sharpness. Sit with me at the bottom of the tank, she says, it’s peaceful down there.
I’ve never been much for that, dear Lenore.
She loosely wraps her wrists around both of his ankles, dipped to the knee in her tank. If you sit down there long enough, when you come back up, the air tastes sweet.

100 Days of Comics! 048/100: DP7: Displaced Paranormals #25 (1988)
Today’s selection from the mysterious enigmatic box of 100 random comics brings a story from Marvel’s New Universe.
So the New Universe. For Marvel’s 25th anniversary, Jim Shooter proposed ending the Marvel Universe. And then restarting it but updated to the present era. This was rejected because it would be like shooting the golden goose.
So Shooter instead proposed creating a new universe, a brand new range of IP, which would be set in a more realistic, modern universe where crazy comic book stuff only started happening recently.
This got approved but around the same time, Marvel’s owners Cadence Industries threatened to sell off Marvel, which forced Marvel to cut costs and increase revenue. Shooter’s budget for the New Universe was cut to the bone and instead of top creators, Shooter had to use people new to the industry or who couldn’t get work otherwise. Shooter himself couldn’t devote as much time as he wanted to the line because of intracompany politics that eventually led him to leave his editor-in-chief position.
Damn. I know that a lot of people in the industry hate Jim Shooter but between this and Valiant Comics, it sometimes seems like Jim Shooter can’t catch a break.
ANYWAY. That’s the out of universe origin. Here’s the in-universe origin.
It began with the White Event, a mysterious astronomical phenomenon which bombarded the entire earth with unknown energies two summers past. In two persons out of every million, this energy triggered largely benign body-wide mutations resulting in paranormal forms and abilities. Few people were aware of the ramifications of the White Event. Its mutagenic energies affected people at vastly different rates so that it took anywhere from days to months to years before paranormality would manifest itself in a specific person. Consequently, the general public was unaware that paranormals walked among them for over a year.
Then came the Black Event, the total disintegration of the city of Pittsburgh through the misuse of the greatest paranormal power of all. Although no one knows who is responsible for the atrocity, it is widely believed among high government intelligence circles to be the work of a foreign paranormal. In the wake of the disaster, the president reinstated the draft in an effort to not only mobilize a standing army, but also to locate the nation’s paranormals so that they could be forged into an elite fighting force. But the army is not the only government agency interested in paranormals. The Central Intelligence Agency, among others, has its own paranormal recruitment program. This program is aimed primarily toward female paranormals who are not yet eligible for the draft.
This is the saga of seven of the many paranormals caught up in a world gone mad... Lenore Fenzl, Merriam Sorensen, Charlotte Beck, Stephanie Harrington, and Jenny Swensen, the first five recruits of the C.I.A.’s special paranormal task force... and Dave Landers and Randy O’Brien, two members of the U.S. Army’s first paranormal platoon...
And hey! This issue was written by Mark Gruenwald! Famous for his run on Captain America, the Squadron Supreme, Quasar, and this book. Original owner of the Captain America shield now owned by Stephen Colbert. Apparently the Patron Saint of Marveldom. And memetically killed by a really bad piece of Rob Liefeld art.
So we start off with some paranormal children shoplifting some groceries in Wisconsin. They are runaways from the Clinic of Paranormal Research and as they try to escape from the police, they accidentally drive through the guardrail and tumble down the incline.
Meanwhile: Dr. Randy O’Brien doing surgery on Dave Landers at Major General Truscott, Jr. Memories Hospital in Georgia. For some reason, Dave attempted to commit suicide while in solitary confinement. Impaled himself on a metal spike.
And Dr. O’Brien is wondering why. What happened to Dave during his special powers training in the two months they were separated? And did O’Brien let him down in some way? O’Brien doesn’t want to blame himself but if he hadn’t lost his powers, he would have been in the same training with Dave.
O’Brien’s ‘parability’ was the ability to summon five Antibodies from within his own body, a starscapey version of himself that can fly, become intangible, and transfer memories through physical contact. Each of the Antibodies had a slightly different personality and O’Brien had varied amount of control over them.
But he has lost that power. Just as he started boot camp, he stopped being able to summon Antibodies. And at first he thought he’d be happy to be normal again but now he just feels empty.
But a nurse cuts his musings short. Colonel McInery wants the entire medical staff assembled in the basement at once for an urgent matter.
Meanwhile, in Wisconsin. The ambulance has arrived at the car crash and dang its a mess. We don’t see most of it but one of the kids went through the windshield (wear your seatbelts, boys and girls) and another is missing an unspecified piece of anatomy.
But while one of the kids, Evan something, is strapped to a gurney and the EMTs are distracted, the Shadowman comes out of him. We saw him help out with the shoplifting earlier. And he works very much like an Antibody for reasons. During the crash, he came out and covered Evan to protect him. Now, he surrounds Evan and flies off with him thinking of Dr. O’Brien, leaving the EMTs confused about what that was.
Meanwhile, back at the Georgia hospital basement, Colonel McInery shows the medical staff their new patient. The Famileech.
It (they?) are a twisted horrific amalgamation. The Robinson family was just outside Pittsburgh last December right before the Black Event. When it happened, their car was swept over the lip of the Pitt and slide all the way down the crater wall to the bottom where they were exposed to the mutagenic sludge that is the liquefied remains of Pittsburgh.
Yeah.
Somehow, their exposure to the Pitt-Juice caused the whole family to bond together on the cellular level. Also, the Famileech eats people. Even now its banging on the door shouting “HUNNNNNGRY! Need food! Want your bodies...”
Yeah.
With new and improved pressure suits to protect them from absorption (the previous model didn’t help Lieutenant Lancaster though) and piping halothane into the Famileech’s room to knock it out, the medical staff can go in to take a tissue sample for a biopsy and take measurements and any vital signs.
Dawn the next day, the Shadowman arrives at the hospital. Yup. He flew all night from Wisconsin to Georgia. He flies through the window as Dr. O’Brien is examining Dave Landers and pulls Evan out of himself.
The Shadowman gestures for O’Brien to examine Evan and then touches him to share memories of his time with Evan and the car accident.
And O’Brien realizes that this Shadowman is actually his renegade Antibody!
I said he had varied amounts of control over his Antibodies, right? Well this one strangled one of the clinic’s therapists to death. The man was a dangerous psychopath but realizing that his Antibodies could become killers, O’Brien disowned the Antibody, refused to allow him access to his host-body.
He had assumed that without access to him, the Antibody had withered up and died. He didn’t contemplate that another human being could sustain the Antibodies.
O’Brien finishes examining Evan. The kid has head trauma but his vital signs look good.
But before he can have it out with the Shadowman, an alarm goes off. Rushing out into the hallway with the Shadowman tagging along, O’Brien sees that the Famileech has somehow gotten out and is eating Nurse Ahrens.
The Shadowman flies away, leaving O’Brien to try to divert the Famileech from the wing Dave and Evan are in by getting it to chase him instead. He dead ends at a fire door that won’t open, defeating the entire point of being a fire door.
But then the Shadowman comes back to save him. It had only flown off to forehead kiss Evan goodbye.
The Shadowman envelopes O’Brien and tries to fly him over the Famileech but either O’Brien is too heavy or the Shadowman is too weak after flying cross-country all night.
So instead he tackles and tries to punch out the Famileech and gets torn apart for his troubles.
With the Shadowman disintegrating, the Famileech comes for O’Brien. The doctor prays to god not to let him die like this, trapped, frightened and alone.
And bam. O’Brien manages to summon his four Antibodies. But he realizes that individually they’re no match for the Famileech. But... the Shadowman showed him that one of his Antibodies could envelope his body like armor. So what if he did that with all four?
Luckily, they’re cooperate and O’Brien is protected by four layers of Antibodies and wields their combined strength. Nicely solving his issue with his powers where he felt that he wasn’t really directly in control.
x4 Antibodied O’Brien punches the Famileech back into its cell with a lot of wet sounding sound effects like SPLOOSH and SPLOK and barricades the door.
After, the four Antibodies peel off and fly back inside him, needing to recharge after that display.
And O’Brien is left thinking that the renegade Antibody which he disowned has given him a new lease on life by showing him there were possibilities with his powers that he would never have tried!
Eesh, this is getting long. And there’s a backup story. Starring THE ESPEOPLE called Night of the Mask.
Basically a bunch of dorky paranormal draft dodgers are sitting around playing probably-DnD in the guise of Psi-Lord, Purple Veil, Supernatural, the Apparition, Trancer, and Phantom Bullet when Walter (Psi-Lord) faints and Nightmask appears.
Danny/the Apparition immediately uses his illusion powers to cloak the ESPeople as their probably-DnD characters. They demand that Nightmask state name and business but since Nightmask’s powers are all about entering dreams, he thinks this is someone’s dream and decides to flee the ESPeople until he can figure out what brand of dream logic this particular dream is working on.
But the ESPeople manage to pin him down with their assorted cool powers (Phantom Bullet shoots phantom bullets from his fingers, Supernatural controls natural forces, Apparition as I said before does illusions, and Trancer and Psi-Lord seem to be psychics. Not sure if there’s a difference in their powers).
Trancer reads Nightmask’s mind and realizes that Nightmask thinks this is a dream. Psi-Lord comes to and erases Nightmask’s memories of this encounter (the ESPeople are draft dodgers after all and Nightmask has already been drafted).
Psi-Lord then wonders aloud whether the ESPeople should stop hiding out and maybe get involved to help the world before everything falls apart. The others just say “Nah.”
And the issue ends with a confused Nightmask wandering down the road toward his next adventure in Justice #25.
So for my first exposure to the New Universe, it was pretty good. Shame that the New Universe experiment ultimately failed. Some elements eventually made their way to the mainstream Marvel universe, like Starbrand and Nightmask and a new White Event.
