kinda hyped going to a musical theatre confrence tommorow and i fucking love those even tho 9/10 readings ive seen at these things suck ass

#i think readings and preproduction stuff only sounds like a cool thing to have seen in retrospect after a show gets big #because if you’ve ever been to an early production of a new musical you know they can be kind of a chore #they’re always way too long and changing songs around constantly #people make a big deal about ‘cut songs’ but any musical you’ve seen likely has many many cut songs its just how it is #new musicals tend to be rougher than new plays just by nature #but i still love seeing early stuff just bc its kinda fun tbh #this is a weird confrence because while there are a lot of professionals there its also like. a rich person event #so like there always forms a little divide between the press (and ppl like me. the plus one) and the professionals and the ppl who just #gave a lot of money to the theatre #appriciate their donation but we do stick out #but yeah. i loooove seeing stuff in progress and also attending panels #(theres one on trans actors in musical theatre im excited about) #but its gonna be like a 12 hour day bc the place is a bit of a drive and then its all day panels and readings and then a cabaret #im glad im not in highschool anymore bc getting home at 1am used to KILL me lmao

there's a good example for this whole age "discourse" thing. say it wasn't kpop but rather some disney star, let's go with miley cyrus when she was doing hannah montana, she was 13-18 when she was doing that show, a show that was crearly meant for an audience of a similar age, so if any adult was investing any big amount of time of that it did raise some eyebrows because why are you watching a show that is meant for kids when there's content made for you (there's a lot of nuance within that as well but still). sure you could've enjoyed the songs, maybe watch the show with a kid from your family but you never invested any more time on it besides that because you were not the target audience. the difference with kpop is that they're putting kids of the same age range miley was when doing that show, but the target audience is not the same, it's adults, it's whoever wants to consume kpop, so at surface it seems like there is not any issues with it because, hey, if i'm the target audience why can't i enjoy this? why can't i spend my day enjoying this content made by teenagers even if i'm an adult? if you take all the context out it's odd no matter how you put it. "but context matters!!!!" sure, it does, but shouldn't the safety of the teenagers matter more? shouldn't we be more worried about why these companies keep debuting younger and younger kids instead of if we're being accused of being a weirdo? like ask yourself why is it weird to possibly like a disney show but not weird to like a kpop group with teens the same age as the disney star as an adult

#red's week in music #STORYTIME WITH RED GATHER ROUND KIDDOS! #was at kids club tonight and went in knowing little 8 year olds mom had her baby this morning and lil girl was now big sis if two #and knew she hadnt come from home bc her hair was a mess of someone who didnt know curls trying to do it lol #shes generally emotional and dramatic but we can all see that shes a lil more so tonight. understandably. lotsa change #well she kinda hinges on this one thing of not getting the verses said to earn a jewel bc she wasnt able to say them-- totally fine! we'll #practice and get them later! but shes distraught bc she worked on them with mum and wont get jewel so i keep telling her when we'll work on #them together and when ill listen to her and we can get it done. cool. then lesson time shes up and down sniffly and the lesson says smth #about childbirth-- bursts into disarray. i ask her if she wants to step out and we blow her nose and she keeps talking about the verse so i #tell her solutions for that and then shes working herself up so i work thru calming down and she goes from #“i think im mad” to “mom would let me do what i want!” and i know the real issue isnt the verse but thats what shes telling me so... #adult shes staying with cautiously steps in and she calms down to tell me “its not the verse... i think i miss my mom” #oh my heart i know honey i give her a hug and we talk about the sleeover shes going to have and when shes going to see mom #and shes sleeping next to lil sis so shes going to give sis a big hug and tell her theyre going to see mom in the morning #and then i ask her if she wants to go back and she does and i just hold her and hug her the whole time #i give her another squeeze when she leaves and tell her to enjoy her sleepover #her friend shes staying with i should not did a very sweet of coming over and saying “hey lookit this new book i got do you wanna color it #with me maybe?“ which was such an emotionally mature thing for her and to see lil kiddo cheer up warmed me #teachers we debriefed and talked about kids going thru stuff at home and not being able to tell and process their emotions and stuff #and then i shared with mum on the ride back and she goes “yup. lil toddler will just miss mom-- its trauma at this age. this is why i #panicked and called my mother to come for your sis's birth bc dad said he could handle you but my heart couldnt for what you would go thru.“ #i was six when my sister was born. my grandma being there before consistently made me giddly excited in that time waiting for dad to bring #us to the hospital. #anyway my heart was full and im praying extra hard for two lil girls in a sleepover missing their mom tonight. #red's personal sitcom #Spotify

maybe getting up at the crack of dawn, getting on a train and spending my last money on thrifting and art supplies in another city will fix me 🤔

#the thrift shops open at 10am and i have several locations i could go to all over the city... #taking the tram... looking at things buying things... craft and art supplies homegoods clothes... just like old times #when i lived there and could have that any day of the week after classes were over #or on the weekends when i'd wake up early fresh and rested clean my entire apartment and then travel all over the city for fleamarkets #and other fun activities... oh i miss it so. even though my apartment was shitty and some of the college classes gave me hella anxiety #it was a good time. had my own 4 walls to come home to at the end of the day. could do my grocery shopping in peace in the grody little aldi #a few blocks down and listen to my music as much as i wanted 🙏 cook my own meals. experiment with new food and spices #curl up infront of the tv on my big comfy sofa and take the best naps ever #I MISS IT SO MUCH WAAAHHHHH

I'm visiting my family for my cousins quince/18th (do the math on when her actual quinceañera would have been to know why it was delayed) and I'm not one for theater, to many people and I'm blind, but my mom's gift to her was 2 tickets to hadestown, a play my mother already saw, and which my cousin couldn't get any of her friends to go to with her to. Which is to say I took her. and by fucking god I know he's a capitalist but they did so good with Hades.
