Is Picard trolling "reactionary" fans?

With the climax of S3E9 "Vox" I found myself smirking because I couldn't help but feel like the entire climax was one big satire of modern society in general and perceptions of the cultural and generational split in the fandom.

Spoilers ahoy!

So lets break this down.

Everyone 25 and under is assimilated into a communalistic hive mind and then become irrationally and uniformly hostile to their elders as they seek to take over literally everything.

Its literally the sum of all fears for those who think "the kids aren't right today."

Which then sets us up for a TNG style remake of the (admittedly quite fantastic) old people saving the day action film R.E.D. (Retired, Extremely Dangerous.) Which by the way, if you have not seen it, I heartily recommend it because it is a delight and significantly funnier and more humble than The Expendables.

Besides needing to come down from all of that nostalgia sugar high, the snark and brazeness of this twist, and the way they're playing it so straight, well maybe not that straight. It just amuses me to no end.

Lets face it, Star Trek ain't The Expanse or Babylon 5. Its never been "naturalistic sci-fi." Its theater and rather theatrical theater at that. It dabbles in immersiveness but if you pull the affected prestige drama mask off of modern Trek, it was pulp all along.

And I'll say it louder for the people in the back:

Barclay was right.

Transporters are the devil.

I think I watched a censored version of this the first time I saw it or something because I totally don’t remember the scene after Oh-aew tries on his mom’s bra.

He posts it to Instagram and then deletes it a few seconds later but one of their friends sends Teh a screen shot.

Then Teh is like, should I respond? Nah. Actually though, yeah, I could get down with that, and tries to jerk off about it. But alas, the ambiance is not correct for such an act. His brother is sleeping a few feet away and also, his Chinese acting idol’s framed portrait is looking down on him disapprovingly throughout. He tries to power through but then he just ends up furiously whacking it and sobbing simultaneously.

Ultimately he gives up to focus on his lifelong passion of making poor life decisions.
