Maybe weird but genuine question:
Does anyone have experience with using racket grip-tape on the handle of their walking cane?
I’m an ambulatory cane user and I want to spice up the aesthetic of my cane. I’m thinking colourful grip tape and reflective stickers.
But I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with using grip-tape (like for tennis rackets) on their cane handle and how well that works out for you.

6. Job Revenge
Tumblr media
Part 7
Texas Romance
@tyrionsprincess30
Georgie stepped inside the store I'm working at. He asked confused leaning his elbows on the counter. "What ya doin' here?" I tucked my hair behind my ear. "It's my job. What about you?"
Georgie shrugs his shoulders just as the backdoor opened to see my boss come out. "Memaw said she'd get me a job because Missy's baseball coach owns this place and-" I cut in finishing his sentence. "They're dating."
My boss chimed in making me freeze in place making Georgie confused because he takes my hand in his. "So you're the Cooper boy?" Georgie shakes his hand. "Yes sir, Georgie." My boss hired him and now we work together at the store. I basically just stocked things because I didn't feel comfortable with the cash register yet. Georgie was good at selling things to people and he told me about how he worked in a tire shop for a little while.
Weeks later our boss Dale came over to Georgie as I finished eating some fries from our lunch break. Georgie took a fry from my bag and I poked him jokingly. "Hey that's mine". Dale smiles at us, thankfully we weren't that couple that couldn't work with the person we're dating.
He called out to us causing me to shove the rest of the fries in my mouth and throw the bag in the trash - we weren't allowed to eat or drink in the store. Georgie chuckled noticing two fries sticking out of my mouth making me look like a walrus. "Hey Georgie y/n, I was thinking of taking your memaw away for the weekend."
Georgie joked. "Ok you have my blessing. Oh and a one second-" He faces me clapping his hands together and making the sound of a walrus. I did it with him but I caught the fries when they fell out of my mouth and ate them quickly seeing our boss. I laughed with Georgie before rubbing my neck nervously. "Um sorry sir"
Dale grinned not fazed. "I was wondering if you and y/n could watch the store while I'm gone."
I gasped looking at Georgie who asks happy. "You're saying we're the managers?"
Dale looks to me directly knowing I'll take this a little more seriously than him. "No I'm saying that I want you to look after the store will I'm gone."
Georgie smirked at me as I crossed my arms over my chest. Dale questioned. "Do you think you can handle it?"
I nod my head with Georgie's reply. "I will make you proud...can I fire people?"
Dale said. "No."
Georgie asked again. "Can me and y/n get payed more?"
I put a hand over my face playfully shaking my head and trying to stop him from annoying our boss. "No."
Georgie sighed looking to our boss than to me and I actually agreed with what he asked. "Can I at least change the music we play here?"
Dale pouted my way. "What's wrong with the music we play here?"
I trailed off playing with my fingers. "Well...it's um...nothing" Georgie says it clearly out in the open. "It's grandpa music."
Dale didn't really understand why. "How is it grandpa music?"
I tried to ease in the reasoning. "Do you listen to it, sir?" He shakes his head yes.
Georgie continues. "Do you have grandchildren?" Dale said. "yeah."
Georgie tilts his head to the side a bit. "You see where we're going with this" Dale looks at us shocked but nods his head okay.
Later that day we were left in charge in of the store. I wore a light green shirt with blue jeans and tennis shoes with my hair going everywhere. I closed the cash register as Georgie reveals his tape. I smirked leaning my back against the counter. "Really it's called the 'No Grampa Mix'?" Georgie nods putting it in the player as people started coming in.
Georgie hands me the money from the guy customer and I put it in the register. "There you go. I hope you had a good shopping experience with us." The customer said. "I did".
Georgie wraps an arm over my shoulder saying to get a laugh from our customer. "I'd say I'd tell the managers but they already know, cause it's us."
Next I was giving a woman a tennis racket when Georgie came over hearing good news. " I'll take it" I grinned. "Thanks ma'am" Georgie jokes throwing a arm in the air. "It's been a pleasure to serve you".
I ended up back at the cash register watching Georgie whose helping someone testing weights. "You may wanna slow down we don't have a license to sell guns in here." The old guy smiled "Just kidding it's Texas we got'em in the back".
Georgie came over to me to my shocked face I gasped covering my mouth with my hands. "Um Georgie..." He sees the cash register is opened and all the money is all gone. We've been robbed - we're so fired. He runs a hand through his hair going to the back after flipping the open sign to closed.
I packed back and forth running my hands through my hair as he sits in Dale's chair with a hand on his forehead embarrassed. "Georgie we can't call. Dale will know right away." He states. "Y/n he'll find out anyway. Plus they might be able to help us find the person who took the money and get it back."
I stood in front of the table as he calls the police. "I'd like to report a robbery....wait before me and my partner tell you are names is there anyway the manager doesn't find out....because he left us in charge and we really screwed up." Georgie looks to me, running a hand down his face as I bite my nails. "At least 400 dollars...well I know it's a lot, that's why I said I screwed up."
Georgie drove us to his house and I barged into his room clasping on his bed, screaming into his pillow and gripping the covers. "We are left in charge one time and we lose all the money!"
Georgie gets up on his dresser and I lift my head up to see him open a air vent on the wall. He pulls out an envelope with a picture of a red car. I sat up pulling my legs to my chest as he tossed it to me and I catch it. He closes the vent back sighing in disappointment after getting down to sit on his bed.
He lays his head on my right shoulder mumbling. "It's all the money I'm saying for the car..."
I pulled out the money counting it. "I'm sorry but it's the right thing." He nods his head closing his eyes not ready for tomorrow's talk.
I woke up next to a sleeping Georgie sighing when I sat up seeing the money on his dresser. I got up changing out of his old shirts to put on my work shirt and shoes. Georgie wakes up and does the same before we head to his car. Dale was back early and I got concerned about that. He questioned and I could hear his annoyed voice. "So how'd it go yesterday?" Georgie looks to me with sad eyes "it was great until...it wasn't"
Dale asked confused. "What happened y/n?" Georgie takes the floor explaining. "I was helping a customer and y/n was in the back stocking up and I guess i forgot to close the register...cause when y/n and I came over all the money was gone."
Dale gets close to my face as I can barely look him in the eye. "Are you kidding me! Did you call the police?"
I looked up at him stuttering. "We started too but - we didn't want them to get involved.." Georgie jumped in revealing his money to Dale "I was gonna make it right, here take it."
I bite my lip hearing the words I knew would come. "You're fired. Both of you" I took a step backwards towards the door looking at the ground in disappointment as Georgie walked out with me.
We went over to his memaw's house and she saw my red face from crying. She takes me in her arms as Georgie helps me sit down on the couch with them. She lets me cry for a good few minutes to look at Georgie who has a disappointing glance. "Y/n honey, it's ok. Tell me what happened." I croaked wiping away my tears "Dale - he - he fired - us!"
Memaw asked Georgie who runs a hand through my hair trying to calm me down, not very good at seeing me upset. "Wait he fired you and y/n?" Georgie spoke. "yeah."
She asked again suprised. "After you gave him the money back?" I slowly nodded my head and she got up to yell at him on the phone. "What's wrong with you...you know you can be mad at me all you want but don't take it out on my grandson and his girlfriend. Y/n is a good girl and Georgie is learning with her....and he paid you the money back!"
Georgie got an idea looking at me with a smirk and I sat up curious. "I've got an idea" I asked seeing his memaw come back in the room. "What is this plan of yours?"
Memaw sits down beside us. "We're gonna need a dozen eggs" memaw got up and pull out some from the fridge with a smirk. The three of us sat in her car with a carton of a dozen eggs. Memaw glanced back to me in the backseat. "You ready for this?" Georgie reveals the eggs as I get out of the car first "let's go".
Georgie opens the container as memaw gets ready and I stood taking one from him. "Why thank you." She threw the egg and said "this ain't my first egging. Come on y/n"
I tossed it lightly and she said. "It's pretty good". Georgie threw one telling us "it ain't mine either. Don't worry y/n memaw won't let us get in trouble."
I threw two more but they threw more. Memaw threw the last one cursing. "Here's for firing my grandson and his girlfriend, jackass!"
The next morning Dale called us inside. He forgave us and handed us each back a wad of cash. Georgie says and I face palm myself ."Cause y/n and I were the ones who egged your store last night."
I growled lightly "Georgie why!"
Dale aims a finger at me and him asking. "That was you?"
I clarified putting my hands together "Sir, lisen. I only threw 2 eggs and it wasn't my idea. His memaw was there too"
Dale sighs trying to not get mad. "Well uh - it's okay. I forgive you."
I take a breath of relief. "Thank you."
Georgie and I got home before dinner and I sat on the end where memaw usually would. Mrs. Cooper finished the prayer with. "Thank you for Georgie and y/n getting there jobs back". I started eating my food hearing Mr. Cooper say. "Yeah, that was nice of Dale"
Georgie reveals and I tried to not choke on my drink. "I know he even forgave y/n and me for egging his store."
Missy announced looking to me then Georgie. "You took y/n on her first egging without me?"
His mother snapped. "Georgie Cooper....and Y/n L/n. I'm going to call your parents!"
I begged her with puppy dog eyes. "Mrs. Cooper please. I was just mad that he didn't forgive us after we gave him money...I'll do anything I beg of you." She sighed replying. "Fine. I won't tell because you're a good girl y/n."
I mouthed to Georgie who looked down to his food talking to his mom. 'You get on my nerves sometimes' "Dale forgave me and so we're good". That was the end of that conversation.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

Table Tennis at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 6 to 17  August 2016 at the third pavilion of Riocentro. Around 172 table tennis players (equally distributed between men and women) competed in both the singles and team events.Table tennis had appeared at the Summer Olympics on seven previous occasions beginning with the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. In addition to men's and women's singles, the team events were staged for the third time since replacing doubles events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
Tumblr media
Table tennis tables are regulated playing surfaces designed specifically for the game of table tennis (ping-pong). Table tennis tables measure 9’ | 2.74 m long by 5’ | 1.525 m in wide. The playing surface of a ping-pong table must be set at a height of 2.5’ | 76 cm and is equipped with a center net that is 6” | 15.25 cm high and stretches 6” | 15.25 cm beyond the width of the table. Tables can be constructed out of a variety of materials ranging from common designs using plywood and/or particle-board to more exotic variants made of concrete, metal, plastic or fiber-glass. The materiality of a table tennis table is a matter of preference, but the bounce of the ball on the surface should be uniform at a height of 9.1” | 23 cm when dropped at a height of 11.8” | 30 cm.
Tumblr media
Ball- The ball that used in the game weighs 2.7 grams. It is a small celluloid ball that is white or orange in color, depending on the preference of the player. They come in different qualities with those possessing 3 stars being the best kind It is recommended for beginners.
Rubber, Racket, or Paddle- The table tennis racket or paddle is another important piece of equipment. It is used to hit the ball back and forth on the table. The shape is similar to the one used for tennis except it is smaller and made of different materials. The racket is made of wood and rubber. It is divided into two parts, the handle, and blade. The quality of both parts of the racket can affect the force applied by the player. The player must choose the best kind of racket to get good results.
Table Tennis Table- Included in the list of important table tennis equipment is the table. The ITTF specifies that the official table tennis tables used in the tournament must be 9 ft long, 5 ft wide, and must be placed 30 inches above the ground. They come in either green, blue, or black color and are made from hardboard. The surface must be smooth to provide the lowest friction possible.
Net and Post - The net is bought together with the table or rackets, or it can be bought by itself. Whatever the case, it should be six feet long and six inches wide. It should have an upper white tape that is not more than 15mm wide. Also, it should include an assembly that can be attached to the middle of the table tennis table.
Tumblr media
For what I have seen on the video that was given to us is that the basic skills they used are the: Forehand Drive, The BackHand Drive, The BackHand Push, and lastly The Forehand Push.
Technical and Tactical Skills
Tactics generally rely on three main skills:
The ability to keep the ball in play
The ability to play the ball to certain area of the table.
The ability to apply pressure on your opponent by using different types and amounts of spin, and different speeds, in order to crrate openings and hit winning shots.
Rules of the Game
1. GAMES ARE PLAYED TO 11 POINTS
A Game is played to 11 points. A Game must be won by two points. A Match is generally the best three of five Games.
2. ALTERNATE SERVES EVERY TWO POINTS
Each side of the table alternates serving two points at a time. EXCEPTION: After tied 10-10 (“deuce”), service alternates at every point. Can you lose on a serve in ping pong? Yes! There is no separate rule for serving on Game Point.
3. TOSS THE BALL STRAIGHT UP WHEN SERVING
How do you serve the ball in ping pong? Hold the ball in your open palm, behind your end of the table. Toss at least 6” straight up, and strike it on the way down. It must hit your side of the table and then the other side. NOTE: Once the ball leaves the server’s hand it is in play, and so counts as the receiver’s point if the ball is missed or mis-hit.
4. THE SERVE CAN LAND ANYWHERE IN SINGLES
There is no restriction on where the ball lands on your side or your opponent’s side of the table. It can bounce two or more times on your opponent’s side (if so, that’s your point), bounce over the side, or even hit the edge.
5. DOUBLES SERVES MUST GO RIGHT COURT TO RIGHT COURT
The serve must bounce in the server’s right court, and receiver’s right court (NOTE: landing on center line is fair). Doubles partners switch places after their team serves twice.
6. A SERVE THAT TOUCHES THE NET ON THE WAY OVER IS A “LET”
Can the ball hit the net in ping pong? Yes, during a RALLY, if it touches the top of the net and then otherwise lands as a legitimate hit. BUT not when serving. If a served ball hits the net on the way over and otherwise legally bounces in play, it’s a “let” serve and is done over. There is no limit on how many times this can happen.
7. ALTERNATE HITTING IN A DOUBLES RALLY
Doubles partners must alternate hitting balls in a rally, no matter where the ball lands on the table.
8. VOLLEYS ARE NOT ALLOWED
Can you hit the ball before it bounces in ping pong? No. In regular tennis you may “volley” the ball (hitting the ball before it bounces on your side of the net). But in table tennis, this results in a point for your opponent.
9. IF YOUR HIT BOUNCES BACK OVER THE NET BY ITSELF IT IS YOUR POINT
If you hit the ball in a rally or on a serve and it bounces back over the net after hitting your opponent’s side of the table (due to extreme spin), without your opponent touching it, that is your point.
10. TOUCHING THE BALL WITH YOUR PADDLE HAND IS ALLOWED
What happens if the ball hits your finger or hand during a ping pong rally? If the ball touches your PADDLE hand and otherwise results in a legal hit, there is no rule violation and play shall continue as normal. Your paddle hand includes all fingers and hand area below the wrist. But what if the ball touches a player’s body anywhere else during a ping pong rally? You may not touch the table with your non-paddle hand for any reason. It will result in a point for your opponent. BUT if your opponent’s hit sails over your side of the table without touching it, and hits any part of you or your paddle, that is still your point.
11. YOU MAY NOT TOUCH THE TABLE WITH YOUR NON-PADDLE HAND
You may touch the ball or the table with your paddle hand (after reaching in to return a short serve, for example), or other parts of your body.
12. AN “EDGE” BALL BOUNCING OFF THE HORIZONTAL TABLE TOP SURFACE IS GOOD
An otherwise legal serve or hit may contact the top edge of the horizontal table top surface and be counted as valid, even if it bounces sidewise. The vertical sides of the table are NOT part of the legal playing surface.
13. HONOR SYSTEM APPLIES TO DISAGREEMENTS
If no referee is present during a match and the players disagree on a certain call, the “honor system” applies and the players should find a way to agree, or play the point over. Ping pong carries a tradition of fierce but fair play.
OFFICIATING THE TABLE TENNIS
For every table tennis competition, a referee is appointed with a deputy who can act on their behalf. The referee is required to be present at the venue throughout a tournament and is required to uphold the rules.
During a table tennis match, an umpire is appointed to decide on the result of each point or rally. The umpire is required to use their judgement when applying the laws and regulations of the ITTF. Where the umpire is officiating alone, their decision is final and they should be seated about 2–3 metres from the side of the table and in line with the net

Tennis Racket Review
I will be describing 3 types of tennis rackets, the features of the rackets plus the properties of the type of player who may benefit from each form of racket. The three types of rackets are game development / power rackets, Player/control rackets and last but not least tweener rackets. Your final decision which racket to acquire may be aided once you know which racket type best matches the functions of your black padel rackets.
When exploring at these rackets you also wish to realize that the line type and tension used may have an impact on racket performance. Those characteristics is going to be mentioned in our line review section. The five tennis racket features it is additionally vital to know just before you invest in.
For me mind size is probably the most important characteristic when deciding which kind of tennis racket to buy. The head measurement of the racket influences racket get a grip on and power.
Consider a trampoline. My children have 1 in the lawn and I know that when I am because center I can rebound because spot perfectly. The size of the'sweet spot'is fairly enormous and it enables me to bounce to ungodly heights. When I escape that sweet place I begin flying throughout the place. Today indoors we've somewhat physical workout tramp. I could bounce all day long on that issue with out dropping control but my top is really diminished.
A tennis racket operates on the same principle. The more expensive the head measurement, greater your special place and the much more power. When yo reduce the size of the head you might minimize the ability plus the size of the work spot, but you will have increased control.
How big your racket affects energy and maneuverability. Racquets come in standard period which are about 27 and extensive period which vary from 27.25 inches and higher.
Regular measurement rackets can give you amazing maneuverability but reduced power. Lengthy measurement rackets provide higher influence and therefore higher energy, but they are much less maneuverable compared to typical lengths.
The fat of a tennis racket can influence energy, get a handle on and maneuverability. The best advice I can give you is always to have the heaviest racket you can manage. The only process to understand your target weight is always to trial many rackets. In our assessments we shall explain rackets as Light (8.9-9.5oz unstrung), Medium (9.6-10.4oz unstrung) or Large (10.5-and over unstrung). You can come across that the majority of the rackets analyzed on Tennis95.com will probably be within the large category.
Weightier rackets may present you with extra energy and get a handle on but much less maneuverability. Therefore once you demonstration your rackets spend shut awareness of how well your ready to maneuver the racket into position. If your swing is gradual or if your emotion disquiet within your shoulder or elbow then I would suggest going to a lowered fat category.
The total amount of a golf racket impacts maneuverability, security, and pace. You can find two components in this category. Mind light(HL) and Mind heavy(HH). Head mild rackets provide improved maneuverability, and diminished stability and pace. I take advantage of headlight rackets for the reason that I have reasonably superior aspects and I am able to produce my very own power. Where I would like support reaches the web obtaining the racket in to place on rapidly volleys.
Head major rackets tend to be less maneuverable but supply you with extra energy and stability. Today the valuable element is that harmony can be adjusted with lead tape or lead balls within the offer with or on the frame. Therefore for individuals who love everything otherwise about your racket you are able to effortlessly change the balance to make it the most effective stay for you.
Today chain sample comes with an influence on power, control, and basketball spin. The 3 main chain design sorts ranging from most dense to least are 18x20, 16x19, and 16x18. The initial quantity recommendations the mains or the vertical strings and also the next number recommendations the outside strings or crosses.

Monica Puig (PUR) vs Angelique Kerber (GER) - Women's Tennis Singles Final | Rio 2016 Replay
Tumblr media
Court Dimensions:
The court depicted in the video is 23.77m long and 8.23m wide. A net that is suspended by a cord is attached to two net posts that divide the court into two equal sections. The net is 1.07m tall and it stretches in between the two net posts. The net is 0.914m tall in the center and is held down by a white strap. At the top of the net, there is a white band that conceals the cord. The court is consists of lines at the end of the court known as baselines and lines on the side of the court known as sidelines. The baseline can be as wide as 10cm. The service lines are two parallel lines that are in between the single sidelines and measure 6.40m from each side of the net. On each side of the net is an area between the service line and the net, these two equal parts are divided and are known as the service courts. The center service line divides the service courts and is drawn parallel with the singles sidelines and halfway between them. In addition, the center service line is 5cm wide. All court measurements are taken to the outside of the lines and are all white, which contrasts with the surface color.
Equipment:
Monica Puig from Puerto Rico - She had a white tennis grip tape on the racket handle and a racket colored in yellow and black, along with a design on the net of the racket. She also wore a red bandana with a design on it. A short red dress with some parts of it white, with blue stripes, and a symbol. Underneath her dress is white-colored undershorts. She also wore a white sweatband around one of her arms. Lastly, she had white shoes on with black designs and a pair of white socks.
Angelique Kerber from Germany - She also had a white tennis grip tape on the racket handle and a racket colored in red, white, and black, with a design on the net of the racket. She also wore a white tennis hat with an Adidas logo on it. A white tank top with a red design, an imprinted Adidas logo, and a symbol. A white skirt with an Adidas logo and red shorts at the bottom. Lastly, she had red shoes with a white design along with white socks that have a design. Unlike Monica Puig, I noticed that she didn't wear any sweatbands. Sweatbands are essential because they can wipe away sweat, thus resulting in fewer distractions.
General Equipment:
Tennis Balls - Aside from the racket, the most important piece of equipment used to begin a match is the tennis ball, which can be made of rubber and nylon. The tennis balls in the video are neon yellow with black text.
Tennis Court - A match cannot be played if there is no tennis court. These can be found in parks, clubs, and recreational facilities. Professional courts, on the other hand, will vary depending on the location of the matches. In the video, you can see that the court is green with white lines marking the different spots, it has a net that divides the court into two separate sides, it has benches for the crowd to watch the game, it has a scoreboard that is used to keep track of the scores, and it has an umpire tower that is located at the side of the court and is used for high-level matches like the one shown in the video, this is also where the umpire sits and make calls.
Tennis Net - The tennis net is the most important piece of tennis court equipment. In the video, the net is black with a white design on it. It measures 1.07m tall and extends between the two net posts. It is also 0.914m tall in the center and is held down by a white strap.
Basic Skills:
Smashes - It requires you to hit the ball into the court of the opponent at high speeds. They are also very effective because your opponent may not be able to reach the ball in time. I noticed that they both had very powerful smashes that helped them both accumulate more points; however, Monica Puig timed a few of her smashes correctly, so Angelique Kerber was unable to return the ball over the net in time.
Serving - It is essential if you want to take control of any game or match you participate in. Serving the ball takes only a few seconds, but numerous small movements within the act contribute to a successful experience with honing this skill. I noticed that Monica Puig had very good serves in which she scored points, but Angelique Kerber still needed to work on her serves.
Forehand and backhand strokes - There are several strokes in tennis, but the forehand and backhand strokes are the most commonly used. I noticed that Monica Puig and Angelique Kerber both had excellent forehand and backhand strokes. Monica Puig's forehand strokes, on the other hand, were slightly overpowered, causing Angelique Kerber to lose points. On the other hand, I noticed that they both had powerful and successful backhand strokes that helped them gain points.
Technical and Tactical Skills:
Since tennis players are required to walk and run throughout the match, proper footwork is highly essential. I noticed that they executed proper footwork since their movements were so graceful and quick in a short amount of time and over a short distance. They had really good stances, which they used to their advantage as they positioned and moved around the court to execute successful shots. I also noticed that they both performed very well in their offense and defense technique, however, I noticed that Monica Puig had stronger offense techniques which allowed her to win the game.
Rules of the Game:
The game begins with a coin toss to determine who will serve first and which side they will serve from.
After that, the server must serve each point from opposite sides of the baseline. Before hitting their serve, the server's feet must never move in front of the baseline on the court.
If the server does not get their first serve in, they may use a second serve. If they fail to get their second serve in, a double fault will be called and the point will be forfeited.
If the server clips the net but the ball still enters the service area, a let is called and they are allowed to take the serve again without penalty. If the ball hits the net and does not land in the service area, an out is called and the serve is forfeited.
After receiving the serve, the receiver is free to stand wherever they want. The server will receive the point if the ball is struck without the serve bouncing.
Once a serve is made, the number of shots between the players is limitless. The point is earned by striking the ball so hard that the opponent is unable to return it in the scoring areas.
Points are awarded in scores of 15, 30, and 40. 15 equals one point, 30 equals two points, and 40 equals three points. A game must be won with four points. When a game ends on a score of 40-40, it is referred to as a deuce. From deuce, a player must win two consecutive points to win the game. The player is ahead after winning one point from deuce. If the player wins the next point, the game is over; if they lose, the game goes back to deuce.
To win the set, a player must win 6 games by 2 or more. If the opening sets end in a tie, the game will be decided by a tie break in which players play first to 7 points. There will be no tie break in the final set, and players are required to win by two games with no limits.
If a player touches the net, distracts, or obstructs his opponent in any way, he forfeits the point.
The ball may strike any part of the line for a point to be called in; however, if the ball strikes outside the line, the ball is out.
Every 6 games, the balls in a tennis match are replaced with new balls.
A player loses a point if they do not return the ball in the correct areas of the court, if the ball hits the net and does not go into the opponent's area, or fails to return the ball before it bounces twice in their half.
How to Officiate the Sport:
There are two officials in tennis namely the chair umpire and line umpires. In competitive matches, a chair umpire is appointed to ensure that the rules of a tennis match are implemented and are followed correctly. They are the ones who sit in an elevated chair by the net, such as the one shown in the video. The chair umpire always has the final say on all issues that arise during play, they also make an overrule decision if they believe that a mistake has been made. Line umpires, on the other hand, work as part of a team of one to nine-line umpires on the court. They call shots relating to their assigned line. In addition, throughout professional tennis games, line umpires are required to be present.

Tumblr media
A blog written by Frea Dea C. Segovia
Introduction
The flaming close game between Monica Puig (PUR) and Angelique Kerber (GER) was held at the Olympic Tennis Centre in the Barra Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 13, 2016. In the end, Monica Puig beats Angelique Kerber, winning the gold medal with 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 triumph.
Court Dimensions
Tumblr media
As mentioned, the scorching competition between the two outstanding tennis players was held at the Olympic Tennis Centre. The tennis venue has an overall length of 78 ft / 23.77 m; an overall width of 27 ft / 8.23 m (Singles), 36 ft / 10.97 m (Doubles); and an overall surface area of 2,106 sq ft / 195.7 sq m (Singles), 2,808 sq ft / 260.9 sq m (Doubles). The length of service box is 21 ft / 6.4 m, width of service box is 13.5 ft / 4.1m, area of each service box is 283.5 sq ft / 26.3 sq m, backcourt (no man’s land) is 18 ft / 5.5 m x 27 ft / 8.2 m (486 sq ft / 45.2 sq m), and doubles alley of 39 ft / 11.9 m x 4.5 ft / 1.4 m (175.5 sq ft / 16.3 sq m). Furthermore, its net has dimensions of 3ft / 0.9m high in the centeequr, 3.5ft / 1.1 m high at the net posts. Lastly, the center line is 4″ / 0.1 m long.
Equipment
Tumblr media
1. Tennis Uniform - when playing tennis, both men and women usually wear a shirt. If you wear a sleeved or sleeveless cotton blend top, you will feel cooler and more relaxed. However, some courts do not sanction sleeveless shirts, so double-check their policies first.
2. Tennis Racquet or Racket - is a bat with a long handle attached to a circular frame covered in a network of tight strings; used to strike the ball.
3. Tennis Balls - are neon yellow in organized tournaments, but they can be any color in casual play. They are wrapped in a fibrous felt that alters their aerodynamic properties, and each is adorned with a white curvilinear oval.
4. Tennis Shoes - a sports shoe with a rubber bottom and a leather or hard cotton top that is ideal for tennis sport.
5. Tennis Bag - is a bag used to transport a player's tennis rackets.
6. Net - is a mesh that divides tennis court in half.
7. Grip Tape - tennis players use this to tape the handle of their racket.
8. Arm Sleeves - it's also known as a tennis compression sleeve. This prevents the muscles from tightening and gives the arm support.
9. Ball Clips - are similar to every other clip or holder. When playing tennis, these allow a ball to be clipped onto a player's shorts or trousers.
10. Ball Hoppers - is one of the most popular methods for moving tennis balls around a tennis court. When collecting or using balls, this is normally made with wheels so that a player can wheel the hopper around the court.
11. Carts - is similar to a tennis ball hopper, except this one still has wheels and a handle, and it's made to hold tennis balls.
12. Elbow Brace - is used to relieve pain and strengthen a player's grip strength. It has two velcro straps that wrap around the elbow and add a lot of cold pressure to the inflamed area.
13. Hats - a visor is what it's classified as. This hat is made with the top of the hat left open, making it lighter than other styles of hats.
14. Knee Brace - is sometimes worn by a player who has or has had knee issues in the past. This does not mean that a player's knee is any better than it is. Furthermore, if a player takes a strange turn or falls to the court, this protects the knee from further injury.
15. Bandana/Headbands - it collects sweat and prevents it from interfering with a player's results. This is wrapped around a player's head to catch moisture to keep it out of their eyes.
16. Rosin - is a sticky substance made from the sap of fir trees that helps players strengthen their grip on their racket while still keeping their hands dry.
17. Sweat Bands - tennis players use this to wipe sweat off their forehand and wear it on their wrists.
18. Racket Grips - the tennis racket may now have a smoother, more personalized grip. This aids the tennis racket to have a smoother, more personalized grip.
19. Towels - during the course of a game, a player uses this to wipe sweat off their face and hands.
20. Visors - it's also known as a tennis hat, and it's a lot lighter than most hats.
Basic Skills
Tumblr media
Serve. A serve is the stroke used to begin each point in a tennis match. It is one of the most important shots in tennis since it is the only stroke over which a player has full control. A successful serve gives the player serving some control over the point's outcome. This is because the server receives the first strike and can restrict the number of strikes based on the strength, spin, and shot placement.
Groundstroke. After the ball has bounced once on the court, a groundstroke is a forehand or backhand stroke. It's one of the most basic shots in tennis, and it's usually hit from the back of the court during a baseline rally. Groundstrokes, on the other hand, can be played from any point on the court as long as the tennis ball has bounced. A groundstroke is still a groundstroke whether it is struck from the center of the court (around the service line) or even closer to the net. A volley, drive volley, or smash is when the ball is struck in the air before bouncing.
Volley. The ball is shot out of the air until it bounces on the court in a volley stroke. Both the forehand and backhand volley strokes are included in the word "volley." A volley can be played from almost any spot, but it is most commonly done when a player is closer to the net. A groundstroke or half volley is a shot in which the ball bounces until a player makes a contact with it.
Overhead Smash. An overhead smash is a tennis stroke in which the player hits the ball with his or her racquet raised above his or her head in a serve-like motion. This shot is also known as a smash or an overhead shot, and the two words are synonymous. Since this is the most common type of the shot, the word "smash" or "overhead" typically refers to the "forehand smash" or "forehand overhead." When a player is unable to move into a position to hit the more effective forehand smash, the backhand smash is used.
Technical and Tactical Skills
Tumblr media
Monica Puig. Attaining the triumph and winning the gold surely are surely two of the indications on how skilled and well-grounded this player is in the field of the tennis sport. Throughout the whole game, she has proven her worth with the aid of her exceptional technical and tactical skills. Three of the strategies and techniques she had utilized are overhead, forehand volley, and slice. Firstly, her overhead is probably the most fascinating to see amongst the tennis players I’ve seen before. It’s amazing how comfortable she is as she stands close to the net, and eventually hits the ball over her head. This skill is one of the basic skills, but she turned it into something much more extraordinary. Secondly, her forehand volley in which has aided immensely in making her opponent vulnerable and allowed her to be able to shorten the points, taking the time away from her opponent. Although this skill may be seen as difficult for others to do, she has managed to execute it well with the help of her firm hands and exceptional reflexes. Lastly, her slice was pretty much the skill that has helped her attain triumph and the gold medal. As observed, she has utilized this skill with her own strategy. It’s astonishing to see how she perfectly swings the racket through the bottom of the ball. Moreover, this very skill has given her the ability to be able to change the pace of the game and to further add variations, the reason for her success.
Tumblr media
Angelique Kerber. Although this player has unfortunately didn’t manage to obtain the gold, it shouldn’t be the reason to see her as a less skilled and well-ground player in the sport. Having her as an opponent is certainly hard and difficult. Indeed, regardless of the hapless result, she has still proven to the world how amazing she is as a tennis player, and that she is worthy of representing her country in such competition. Three of the strategies and techniques she had utilized are return, backhand volley, and serve. Firstly, her return is very alluring to watch as an audience. It’s unbelievable how fast her reflexes are in seeing the ball’s direction and eventually hitting the ball back to the other side. This skill has given her the advantage to overcome her opponent at some time of the game. Secondly, her backhand volley is inevitably one of the highlights of her skills. This strategy has given her the capability to be dominant over her opponent at some point. It shortens the span of time that her opponent has, and has been helpful in providing her the upper hand in the game. Lastly, her serve is probably the best one I’ve seen so far. Although it’s just a basic skill, this has aided in her survival in the competition. Indeed, she has great and absolute control over it, as observed. Thus, this has also given her the advantage to give herself an edge compared to her opponent in the game.
Rules of the Game
Tumblr media
General Rules

Scoring
1. Points - smallest unit of measurement. Points increment from Love (0)-15-30-40-game.
2. Games - Games - each game is worth four points, and a player wins if he or she scores four points with at least a two-point advantage.
3. Sets - a set consists of six games, with the winner being the player/team that completes the first six games with at least a two-point advantage.

To win a tie-break game, a player or team must score 7 points with a two-point lead. In a tie-break game, player 1 serves the first point, player 2 serves the next two points, and player 1 serves the final two points.
Officiating the Sport
Tumblr media
Line Umpires. At all levels of competitions, line umpires get to call the shots – literally. It might sound easy, but the best Line Umpires must be able to focus for long periods of time, work well with others, and have outstanding eyesight. They serve as an additional set of eyes and ears for the Chair Umpire in addition to calling the lines. The easiest way to get on the court at tennis tournaments around the world is to become a Line Umpire.
Chair Umpires. The Chair Umpire is the most important person on the court during a match, apart from the players. During a match, the Chair Umpire is in charge of everything from calling the score to enforcing the rules and handling the players. Great communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and 20:20 vision is all expected of a good Chair Umpire.
Community Official. Volunteering as a Community Official is a wonderful way to get interested in tennis at the grassroots level. They are in charge of a variety of courts during a tournament or competition. They offer an assistance and education to players, parents, and coaches, as well as assisting in the smooth operation of an event. Community Officials begin as Court Monitors, assisting in the identification of on-court issues, but soon advance to Court Supervisors, assisting in the enforcement of the Rules of Tennis and the Code of Behavior, as well as resolving on-court issues.
Referees. The Referee is the only authority on all rules and regulations. Referees are in charge of all facets of a tournament, from the draws and schedules to implementing the rules and ensuring that everything runs smoothly and fairly. Being a referee necessitates extensive knowledge of tennis rules, the ability to multi-task in a high-pressure setting, and the ability to listen and interact effectively with all tournament participants.

Got a new (second) cane
An ergonomic-ish handle, I would call it
My initial cane is an offset one
I mainly got this new one because my offset-cane can only be folded once. I couldn’t find any offset canes in Germany which are foldable twice
I’m an ambulatory cane user and never know when my knees will be bad enough I need it, so I specifically got this new cane to easily keep it on/ in my everyday backpack
I struggled a good 40-50 minutes taking the original tip off the new cane and replacing it with the type of cane-tip I am used to from my beloved offset.
I worry my wrists might complain tomorrow because of the pulling/ gripping/ force needed to get the original tip off the new cane. I even had to heat it up using my hairdryer before it budged.
Tumblr media
I might put reflective stickers into this cane as well, stars probably (the leopard stickers are the same type reflectors you can put in your bike’s spokes)
And I decided I will get some grip-tape (you know, tennis rackets) in a funky color :3
I also got star-shaped carabiners I’ll put on both, so I can clip them to my backpack more easily

Get A Grip: A Table Tennis Blog
Rio Olympics 2016: China vs China Men's Singles Table Tennis Final
By Dana Esabelle I. Catingub
Tumblr media
A Sports Blog
Ma’s performance on the match was outstanding– without dropping a single game. On the other hand, despite the crushingly one-sided end scoreline, Zhang gave a good match showing off all his skills and speedy movements. The first game opened brightly as Ma and Zhang produced some fantastic rallies. Ma made a positive start to the end and went 8-4, but Zhang then began to grow into the game, winning a few number of points with shots from his backhand side to 8-9 ahead. Both competitors knew how important it was to take game one, and Ma did just that (14-12) and earned the early advantage.
There were also more high-paced, engrossing rallies played after the break at the end of the first game. Zhang's obvious weakness seemed to be his backhand-to-backhand shots, with Ma winning the majority of them to extend his game lead to 2-0 (11-5). By the second, Ma was gaining more and more confidence, while Zhang's mood was dwindling. The third game was a masterclass in attack-against-attack, and attack-against-defence rallies, both players giving it their all as the atmosphere in the Riocentro Pavilion 3, in Brazil. But the established pattern prevailed and Ma extended his lead (11-4) to move ever closer to Olympic glory.
Zhang’s body language heading into the fourth game looked negative, and fell 3-0 down leading to his time-out. Despite winning back-to-back points after the break, Zhang seemed to run out of ideas for a new approach as Ma finished off his opponent in straight games (14-12, 11-5, 11-4, 11-4) to seal the gold medal for China.
In-Depth Details:
Court Dimensions
Tumblr media
Room Size The playing space shall be rectangular and not less than 14m long, 7m wide and 5m high. The 4 corners may be surrounded by Table Tennis Barriers of not more than 1.5m in length (Michelle, 2016).
Ping Pong Table The table is 9 ft (2.74 m) long, 5 ft (1.525 m) wide, and 2 ft and 6 inches (76 cm) high. The net should be 6 ft (1.83 m) long and 6 inches (15.25 cm) high. (Hughes, n.d.)
Equipment
Tumblr media
Ball- It is a small celluloid ball that used in the game weighs 2.7 grams. A 40 mm diameter ball is used mainly in international leagues and competitions.
Table Tennis Racket or Paddle- It is used to hit the ball back and forth on the table. The shape is similar to the one used for tennis except it is smaller and is made of wood and rubber. It is divided into two parts, the handle, and blade. The player must take note that the rubber used on the blade can affect the type and amount of spin used in hitting the ball.
Table Tennis Table- The ITTF specifies that the official table tennis tables must be 9 ft long, 5 ft wide, and must be placed 30 inches above the ground. They are made from hardboard. The surface must be smooth to provide the lowest friction possible.
Net and Post- The net should be six feet long and six inches wide. It should have an upper white tape that is not more than 15mm wide. Also, it should include an assembly that can be attached to the middle of the table tennis table.
These are the four common types of equipment used in Table Tennis. Others include shoes, clothing, and accessories. However, these are optional.
(Warren, n.d.)
Basic Skills
Tumblr media
Grips
Shakehand Grip- closely resembles the pose you would use when shaking hands. The placement of the edge of the blade within the natural V of the hand is crucial for wrist flexibility and control.
Pro: Great wrist flexibility; Con: Less power on attacks
Deep Shakehand Grip- similar to shakehand grip, but the thumb is slightly raised and relaxes on the rubber of the bat.
Pro: Adds power and precision to attacks; Con: Weak crossover point
Penhold Grip- The paddle is held much like you would hold a pen.
Pro: Versatile for both attack and defense; Con: Difficult to master
Tumblr media
Strokes
Forehand Drive- The most basic stroke. It returns aggressive/attacking strokes and lands your ball close to the opponent’s baseline or sideline. With this, you rotate your body to the back to add power to the ball and transfer your weight onto your back foot. Hit the ball at the peak of the bounce, adding speed at impact to impart spin.
Backhand Drive- is intended to return attacking shots and land the ball at the opponent’s baseline. Keep your stance angled toward the table with your free arm pointed toward the ball.
Backhand Push- returns short balls and prevents your opponent from making an attacking return. As with the backhand drive, your body should be positioned in line with the ball, rather than reaching to the side with your arm.
Forehand Push- also designed for returning short balls and preventing attacking shots. Similar to the forehand drive, the difference is you do a smaller backswing, rotating your wrist forward through the range of motion, and keep your paddle open to brush beneath the ball.
Serving
This is a crucial skill since the serve is the only time you have complete control of the ball and the game. Steps on how to serve in table tennis:
1. Balance the ball on the palm of your free hand with the hand open.
2. Throw the ball vertically upward so that it rises at least 6 inches above your hand.
3. As the ball drops, hit it with your chosen stroke, ensuring that it bounces on your side of the table, goes over the net, and bounces on your opponent’s side of the table.
Feet
Should be positioned wide, about 1.5 or more shoulder widths apart so that you can quickly move side-to-side. Keep your non-dominant foot slightly ahead of the other.
Back and shoulders
Keep your upper body slightly bent at the waist. With the bent ankles, knees, and waist and your shoulders forward, your whole body is in a slightly crouched position, ready to spring into action.
Technical and Tactical Skills of Zhang Jike
Tumblr media
During the 1st Game, while Ma Long took a slight pause, Zhang used the time to think about the tactics that he can use. As the rally started, Zhang hit the ball at Ma’s left-hand side then immediately on his second hit, he passed the ball on Ma’s right-hand side which made him lose the point because he got tricked by Zhang, manipulating the ball move from one side to the other.
Technical and Tactical Skills of Ma Long
Tumblr media
As Zhang kept going out of his comfort zone and showing off all his technical and tactical skills, Ma Long was observing from him and learned his tactics. Through this, he was able to dodge all his shots and hit them seamlessly. He made his way through the game by his good footwork, high energy, and quick reactions. He also took advantage of the backhand give more spin to the ball.
Rules of the Game
Service Rules
1. The service must start with the ball in an open palm. This stops you from throwing it up with spin.
2. The ball must be thrown vertically, at least 16 cm. This stops you from serving straight out of your hand and surprising your opponent.
3. The ball must be above and behind the table throughout the serve. This stops you getting any silly angles and gives your opponent a fair chance at returning.
4. After throwing the ball, the server must get their free arm and hand out of the way. This is to allow the receiver to see the ball.
General Match Play
1. You have two serves before it is your opponent’s turn to serve twice. This used to be five serves each but since changing to 11 it’s now just two.
2. At 10-10 it’s deuce. You get one serve each and must win by two clear points. This is sudden death or table tennis’ equivalent of a tie break.
3. If you are playing a best of 3, 5 or 7 (as opposed to just one set) you have to change ends after each game. This makes sure both players experience conditions on both sides of the table. You also change ends when the first player reaches five points in the final game of a match.
The score is not recorded when:
1. An otherwise good serve touches the net. This ensures your opponent has a chance at making a return.
2. The receiver isn’t ready and doesn’t try to hit the ball.
3. Disturbance by something outside of the players’ control. This allows you to replay the point.
A point is lost when:
1. The service is missed.
2. The service is not returned.
3. A shot goes into the net.
4. A shot goes off the table without touching the court.
5. A player moves the table, touches the net or touches the table with their free hand during play.
(Larcombe, 2012)
How to Officiate the Sport
Tumblr media
Tournament Referee- Some referees are involved in every part of the organization from drafting the entry form to arranging the finals. While some referees appear only on the day of the tournament solely to decide any question of rule interpretation.
Deputy Referees- It is usual to appoint one or more deputy referees, who exercise the authority in defined ways. Such as taking place in the absence of the Tournament Referee.

The game was invented in England in the early days of the 20th century and was originally called Ping-Pong, a trade name. The name table tennis was adopted in 1921–22 when the old Ping-Pong Association formed in 1902 was revived. The original association had broken up about 1905, though apparently the game continued to be played in parts of England outside London and by the 1920s was being played in many countries. Led by representatives of Germany, Hungary, and England, the Fédération Internationale de Tennis de Table (International Table Tennis Federation) was founded in 1926, the founding members being England, Sweden, Hungary, India, Denmark, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Wales. By the mid-1990s more than 165 national associations were members. The table is rectangular, 9 feet by 5 feet (2.7 metres by 1.5 metres), its upper surface a level plane 30 inches (76 cm) above the floor. The net is 6 feet (1.8 metres) long, and its upper edge along the whole length is 6 inches (15.25 cm) above the playing surface. The ball, which is spherical and hollow, was once made of white celluloid. Since 1969 a plastic similar to celluloid has been used. The ball, which may be colored white, yellow, or orange, weighs about 0.09 ounce (2.7 grams) and has a diameter of about 1.6 inches (4 cm). The blade of a racket, or bat, is usually made of wood, is flat and rigid, and may be covered with a thin layer of ordinary stippled, or pimpled, rubber, which may be laid over a thin layer of sponge rubber and may have the pimples reversed. Whatever combination is used, each of the two sides of a paddle must be different in color. The racket may be any size, weight, or shape.
           There are basic equipment to use in playing table tennis;
·       Ball
The ball that used in the game weighs 2.7 grams. It is a small celluloid ball that is white or orange in color, depending on the preference of the player. They come in different qualities with those possessing 3 stars being the best kind It is recommended for beginners. Also, they come in a variety of sizes ranging from 38 mm to 54 mm in diameter. However, the 40 mm diameter ball is used mainly in international leagues and competitions. It is the one specified by the International Table Tennis Federation-ITTF.
·       Rubber, Racket, or Paddle
The table tennis racket or paddle is another important piece of equipment. Aside from that, the player must take note of the rubber used on the blade. This can affect the type and amount of spin used in hitting the ball. Rackets are available in pre-made as well as customized conditions. Beginners are recommended to acquire the pre-made ones, to avoid the confusion of making customized ones. However, they must be sure to buy from reputable sports shops or online table tennis stores.
·       Table Tennis Table
Included in the list of important table tennis equipment is the table. The ITTF specifies that the official table tennis tables used in the tournament must be 9 ft long, 5 ft wide, and must be placed 30 inches above the ground. They come in either green, blue, or black color and are made from hardboard. The surface must be smooth to provide the lowest friction possible.
·       Net and Post
The net is bought together with the table or rackets, or it can be bought by itself. Whatever the case, it should be six feet long and six inches wide. It should have an upper white tape that is not more than 15mm wide. Also, it should include an assembly that can be attached to the middle of the table tennis table. The four types of equipment are the most basic that any aspiring player should buy. Other table tennis equipment include shoes, clothing, and accessories. However, these are optional.
Table tennis is a complex, layered game, and mastery requires a balance of mental strategies and physical skill. But even the most complex game is built on the foundation of four basic skills that even a beginner can learn and practice to improve their game. Practicing the basic skills of table tennis improves your performance and your enjoyment and allows you to develop more advanced skills later on. Here are the basic skills of table tennis.
Before hitting your first shot it’s worth getting your body in the right position. A correct and stance in relation to the table depends to some degree on your grip, and whether you’re are attacking, defending, or serving the ball. However, even as your arm position and placement relative to the table changes, you should always have the correct stance and body posture. The right stance gives you the balance, stability, and range of movement you need to play the game.
Feet
Your feet should be wide, about 1.5 or more shoulder widths apart so that you can quickly move side-to-side. Keep your non-dominant foot slightly ahead of the other (for right-handed people, this means keeping your left foot slightly closer to the table, for left-handed people it’s the opposite).
Ankles and knees
Keep your knees and ankles slightly bent and flexible, with your weight forward on your toes. This keeps your body ready to move forward or backward as needed.
Back and shoulders
Keep your upper body slightly bent at the waist. With the bent ankles, knees, and waist and your shoulders forward, your whole body is in a slightly crouched position, ready to spring into action.
Your arms should be in front of your body, with your elbow and paddle in front of you.
Holding the paddle
The exact position of your hands and arms in your stance depends on your grip or how you hold the bat. There are two basic grips in table tennis: the shakehand grip, and the penhold grip. The different types of grip have specific variations for your hand position on the paddle depending on your preference and style of play.
Each grip has advantages and disadvantages, but it’s also important to choose the grip that is comfortable and natural for you.
The four basic table tennis strokes
The four basic strokes of table tennis are necessary to master forehand and backhand attack and defense.
The forehand drive is the most basic and fundamental ping pong stroke. It returns aggressive/attacking strokes and lands your ball close to the opponent’s baseline or sideline. With the forehand drive, you rotate your body to the back to add power to the ball, so rotate the upper body away and transfer your weight onto your back foot, moving your arm straight back.
As soon as the ball hits your side of the table, rotate your body toward it, shifting your weight forward. Hit the ball at the peak of the bounce, adding speed at impact to impart spin. After you have struck the ball, continue the motion to rest with your paddle pointing upward. For a great demonstration of the forehand drive, check out this video:
The backhand drive is the mirror of the forehand drive, intended to return attacking shots and land the ball at the opponent’s baseline. To deliver a backhand drive, stand with your torso in the path of the ball (rather than reaching with your arm), and keep your stance angled toward the table with your free arm pointed toward the ball.
Your waist should bend forward and lift upward as you move your paddle arm forward and upward, hitting the ball at the top of its bounce and completing the forward and upward motion. Check out this video for a demonstration of the backhand drive:
The backhand push returns short balls, and prevents your opponent from making an attacking return. As with the backhand drive, your body should be positioned in line with the ball, rather than reaching to the side with your arm.
Sweep your arm forward from your chest, letting the paddle swiftly brush underneath the ball at its peak. Aiming downward toward the table or forward to the net imparts various amounts of spin, so this is a controlled stroke. Here’s a great demonstration video:
The forehand push is also designed for returning short balls and preventing attacking shots. Like the forehand drive, you stand with the dominant foot slightly back, and rotate the upper body to accentuate the motion of the paddle. However, unlike the forehand drive, you do a smaller backswing, rotating your wrist forward through the range of motion, and keep your paddle open to brush beneath the ball. For a demonstration of the forehand push, check out this video:
A table tennis serve is the final basic skill, and it’s a crucial skill since the serve is the only time you have complete control of the ball and the game. There are a number of different types of serves each with different pros and cons but the basics remain the same.
 Conclusion
These basic skills are always worth practicing and drilling, no matter how experienced a player is because all advanced skills are added to these fundamentals. It’s definitely worth dedicating some alone practice time to each type of shot. Mastery of the correct technique not only improves your game but can help prevent strain and make the game more enjoyable. Learning the basics is the first step on your way to becoming a champion.
Tactics generally rely on three main skills: The ability to keep the ball in play. The ability to play the ball to certain areas of the table, and. The ability to apply pressure on your opponent by using different types and amounts of spin, and different speeds, in order to create openings and hit winning shots.
Official Rules of Table Tennis
These official table tennis rules should help you keep things straight.
NOTE: Once the ball leaves the server’s hand it is in play, and so counts as the receiver’s point if the ball is missed or mishit.
NOTE: When your opponent hits a ball that sails over your end of the table without touching it and then hits you or your paddle, that is still your point.
It will result in a point for your opponent, but if your opponent’s hit sails over your side of the table without touching it, and hits any part of you or your paddle, that is still your point.
 11.  YOU MAY NOT TOUCH THE TABLE WITH YOUR NON-PADDLE HAND
You may touch the ball or the table with your paddle hand (after reaching in to return a short serve, for example), or other parts of your body. NOTE: If the table moves at all from your touching it during a rally, that is your opponent’s point.
Help us keep it that way!
How to officiate the game? Simple!
Where the umpire is officiating alone, their decision is final and they should be seated about 2–3 meters from the side of the table and in line with the net.
