supervisor!Simon
posting another ch. in a couple, so sorry for the double tag 😬
But it was a Friday, there was no work tomorrow. You thought about it for a second and smacked yourself in the forehead. You open the phone app, and go to the call log. Your finger hovers over his number. You could call him back, but he’s probably in the shower.
So you make him a contact on your phone. Was it weird, sure. Did you feel weird for it, oh absolutely. But he found your phone number throughout the files, so you were good. If you could keep score of all the crazy shit Simon has done just to talk to you. Yeah, he’s number one on the leaderboard.
You begin to type, Hey. You then delete the three letter phrase, “It’s friday lmfao” you type. A response not even a minute later, “Just realized.”  You smile at his message, and that smile fades once you realize you’re texting your Supervisor on a friday night on your dinner table.
“Did you take your luxurious bath?” you chuckle at your cheesy message. “It was a shower. Don’t like baths.” he responds. Three dots are on your end, you wait for his message. Then they disappear. You can almost hear his voice in your mind, just like his emails, short.
You place your phone on the table, and get to cleaning your kitchen. Trying to rid him of your thoughts. Scrubbing the dishes from earlier this week harder than usual. You get a ping from your phone and your head snaps, looking at the tiny screen light up, a notification from your messages.
“Any plans this weekend?”  the text message read from… Johnny? Your heart jumps a little bit. Your expectations lowered when you realize it wasn’t from Simon, not that it would be, he wouldn’t ask about your weekend. Not that you know, anyway.
“None so far 🙃 why??” you respond, putting your phone back down, and picking up your recently used plate. Soaking it in the scalding hot soapy-water. Checking your phone for his text message, “You want to grab dinner on Sat.”
You look over the message, thinking of a response, you could lie and say you do have plans, or you could just go and be a nice person for once. “Sure. Where are we gnna go?”
“New place that opened up next to my house 😁”
“Who uses emojis like that?” you cringe aloud, laughing off the second hand embarrassment, “I’ll see you saturday 🤪” you let out a breath you didn't know you were holding in. You finish cleaning the kitchen. And go back to your room, plopping on your bed, face first of course.
You wanted to ask how his shower was, did he shower with warm water? Probably cold, military habits. He uses 785 in one, you bet. He has residency in your brain at this point. It was getting annoying. He’s been polite and you’ve just been lusting over him for almost a week.
You almost wore out the battery in your vibrator last weekend. After the valentine's day party you definitely had a lady boner, there was something so sexy about Simon eating a goddamn grape, opening your chips, and let's not forget the rain incident. You were gonna combust. And it’s all his fault. He’s so smug, so handsome and that damned dimple.
“I needa stop.” you say, face stuffed in your blanket. You lift your head up, and check the time on your phone. It was getting pretty late and you needed to get ready tomorrow, you also needed to buy a new outfit for dinner.
-
You get up around 10:30, brush your teeth, make yourself  presentable enough to be with the rest of the population. A sweater and some sweats with your slides. Keeping your sunglasses on.
You go to the Giant mart, having to buy some necessities for your apartment. Getting some soil for your baby plants, a couple bags of cat feed for the strays, some laundry soaps and an outfit for tonight. You stopped by the coffee shop in the plaza getting a drink (fuck starbucks!!). You drive to the giant parking lot, cussing at weirdos who don’t let you in or who are constantly taking parking spaces you were looking for.
You finally find a space, farther than you would like, but hey, You found one. You get out of your car grabbing your things and making sure your sunglasses are on your face, trying to make yourself as unapproachable as you can , hoping you won’t see anyone from your past, present or job. You grab a cart and thank the teenager who’s been busting his ass in the sun all morning.
You go and get the necessities first, so, catnip. Checking the prices for which was the cheapest so you could buy the most for the poor little kitties. Settling for the store's brand you buy two big bags. Laundry soap was next, but you got caught up talking to some random guy who had brought his cat in.
-
You get to the laundry aisle, rolling your basket, you see a familiar figure standing holding two different types of dryer sheets. You peep the shoulder brace on, “What’re you doing on this side of town?” You joke rolling your cart closer to him, he snaps his head quickly then laughs and meets you halfway. “I live around here.” he informs, “Me too,” you say enthusiastically, which makes you clear your throat.
“I see you're in your civilian clothes,” you note his gym wear, “I just came from the gym," he nods, “You got cats?” he asks. “Uh no. These are for the strays.” you pat the large bags, he nods again. “You look like you were having some trouble,” you nod to the dryer sheets.
He holds both boxes up, frowning at each label, “My favorites got discontinued.” He says. “Poor you.” you chuckle, “I know.” He sighs.
“Those ones are the ones I use.” You point to the green box with flowers. “Ah, I used to use those ones.” he says as place the two boxes back into their spots, picking up the other box.
“Guess I'll go back to what I know.” he shrugs, and you shake your head at him, “You’re an odd man.” he only shrugs at your words. “So, are you getting groceries?” he asks, “Uh I have a couple things I need to get but I also need an outfit.”
“An outfit?” He raises a brow. “I have dinner.” you say grabbing a bottle of detergent, looking for the softener. “Johnny finally grew some balls, I see?”  he snickers. “It’s just dinner.” you shrug, “Can you grab that?” he looks at you and points to his shoulder, “sorry.” you blurt, reaching for the big bottle. “He’s gonna propose.” He laughs. “He’s not.” you say organizing your cart so the new edition can fit. You start walking out to the laundry aisle, heading towards the outdoor section. “What are you getting now?” Simon asks, walking at your side. “You’re a part of my errands now?”
“Guess so. Can I put this in here?” he asked, holding his box of dryer sheets over the cart. You nod and he drops it in, not caring where it lands. “I need some soil.” you say aloud reminding yourself. You both get to the soil section looking over the types and picking up two new planting pots.
“So you and Johnny huh?” he says snapping you out of your soil reading session. “Me and Johnny huh?” you say in return. “You guys, you know?” he winks and you roll your eyes, “No,I don’t” you snort. “You’re stingy.” He jokes, “I’m private.” you point at him. “You're a pointer, that's what you are.” he points back at you, causing you to laugh at his actions.
“We’re just getting dinner, nothing more, nothing less.” you shrug, Simon narrows his eyes at you, “ Yeah, yeah.” he sighs. “I’m serious.” you giggle. “I am too, just don’t invite him in.” He smirks. “Gross, Simon.” you groan and he cackles at your distorted face.
“Well I better get going” he pats your shoulder, The warmth of his hand making you feel feral enough to eat him whole. You frown, “Thought you were gonna be a part of my errands?” He smiles lightly, “Some other time” He says, “Wouldn't want your boyfriend to get mad at you.” he jokes one more time. “Oh god!” You exasperate. He laughs, “I’ll see you monday.” he winks, he grabs his box of laundry sheets, and pats your shoulder again and walks back inside, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
You wanted to watch him walk back to the door. A part of you wished it was Simon who’d text you. You felt guilty for it. You felt even guiltier for fondling your bits at the thought of him. You grab a bag of soil and throw it in the cart lazily, pushing it through the automatic doors.
-
Your back in the car waiting for your phone to connect to the bluetooth. Staring ahead. “Don’t invite him inside.” You’d invite Simon in if he’d let you. “Don’t be gross.” you say as you look in the rear view mirror. You needed to get something, “Kind of fancy” Johnny’s words, not yours. So you go to the mall, it's a 30 minute drive and luckily you have so much time to spare. The reservation is set at 8 and it’s barely 2.
When you finally get there, you hit up the usual stores. Go to sephora, buy a couple things and finally get a cute dress. You stop at the candied apple shop and buy yourself one. Sitting at the food court alone, you watch couples eat chinese food, or buy drinks from the boba tea shops.
‘The mall would be a cute date’ you think to yourself. You’d never been to a fancy restaurant on a first date. You weren’t into fancy cuisine and you don’t really understand the culinary arts. But if foods are good, foods are good. That’s all that really matters to you.
Johnny’s a fun guy, right? Maybe you’ll have fun tonight, maybe a little more of his personality will show. You get up from your seat and throw the rest of your apple away.
On your way home, you started to stress a little bit, were you really doing this? You tried your best to brush off the feeling of dread. But it was still there, and so were those feelings of Simon.
When you get home you fill the two bowls of cat food, putting one bowl in your small front porch and the balcony in the back. The regular black and white cat already perched on the back balcony’s railing, “Hi there, baby.” you say softly reaching to pet the top of its head softly, “am I having a day?” you chuckle scratching behind its ear. The cat jumps and heads for the bowl, taking a couple of bites and then runs off to go back to god knows where.
You go back inside, switch some plants into the new pots and then decide to get ready. You jump in the shower, do your hair and makeup, waiting a bit to get dressed. You open up a small bottle of Rose that had been chilling in your fridge for a couple of days. Sitting on the couch in just your robe, you feel bored and you want to bother simon. Ask him what he was up to, what else did he get up too. You wanted to tell him all the things about today, what you saw at the mall, what you brought home, what you were wearing.
You stare at your reflection on the tv. All prettied up. You sat until you had an hour to wait for Johnny, putting your dress on, body butters and creams so your skin would be smooth, glittery and glowy. You put your jewelry on, making sure to stack your rings, and fix your anklet and toe rings. 15 minutes until Johnny comes and you're barely putting your perfume on, taking pictures of yourself and choosing which one to put on your instagram story. A bunch of mirror selfies, and pictures of your face makeup to see if it matches, you get a text message that he’s down the street, You rush running around the house barefoot searching for the new shoes you found at the thrift, Prada kitten stilettos. You grab your purse, ID and pepper spray just in case.
“I’m here!” The text reads. You spray yourself on more time with perfume, and rush out the door, you can see Johnny's headlights from your front door. You lock your door and do a speed walk to his car, you open the passenger door and get in. “Hi.” you smile, “Hey!” he says, looking at you “You smell good.” he adds. “Thank you, I bought the perfume today.” You answer.
“You look handsome.” You compliment and he smiles lightly, “You look good.” He keeps his eyes on the road and your eye almost twitches. Everything was just, good? “So did you find this restaurant yourself?” you ask hoping for more conversation, and trying to be better than good.
“Through a friend.” you nod. “Through a friend,” you repeat, “What’s the menu like?” you question. “Just a mix of things.” he shrugs. You hum and stare out the window. This night has to be over quickly. “Can I put some music on?” you ask, “Uh sure.” he points to the aux cord in between the seat and middle console. You grab it and plug it in, hitting shuffle, letting it play whatever.
The car ride to the restaurant was more awkward than any encounter you’ve had with an old man hitting on you, And that’s very awkward.
-
“I’ve never been to a restaurant like this.” you say looking around, “Really?” He says, looking at the menu. “It’s pretty in here.” you look at all the other couples around talking, laughing, drinking wine. “Should we get some wine?” you perk up. “Sure.” he shrugs.
You both order a glass and you almost down yours. “So, johnny?” you chuckle at yourself. “So.” he says. “What have you been up to?” you ask. “Nothing really. Work is all.” he chuckles.
Johnny’s so handsome but, poor guy. “That’s it?” you say in disbelief, “Oh kay. So what's your favorite color?” You take a sip from your drink. “Blue.” another sip.
“Do you have siblings?”  “Just a brother and two sisters.” Another sip.
And that’s how it went all night, trying to pull information out of him. For twenty minutes until you both ordered. “Why’d you leave early on friday?” He asks, mouth full of food. “I had a really bad headache.” you answer, trying to hide your grimace. “Oh.” he takes another bite and then sips from his glass. “Did you miss me too much?” you try to tease. “Uh no?” your smile drops, “I was joking.” you say, and then clear the discomfort in your throat.
-
“Well I am just stuffed.” you say, with one of your sides still on your plate. You pick up your third glass of red wine, and down it. Johnny’s eyes on you. “You a big fan of wine?”
“I’m a big fan of anything that makes me have a good time.” you smile sarcastically.
-
Johnny pays and you excuse yourself to the bathroom. Feeling slightly buzzed, you check your own location, you are on the other side of town. So 45 more minutes of awkward conversation and just weird subliminals. You look at yourself in the mirror. You look good, you smell good.
Everything's good. The food was good. The wine was good, that song choice was good, everything was good, not great, not pretty, not beautiful, not even cool, just good.
You sigh and open your messaging app, and your thumb hovers over Simon's contact. You stare at it for a long time, maybe you could call him up, and complain, he’d listen. Johnny doesn’t, everythings good to him. He sure does pay attention to the cute little server in her cute little hostess outfit. You noticed. You didn’t say anything, just sat there and ate the splatter of whatever vegetable that was decoration on your plate.
You’d felt like this before. When you were young and the boys overlooked you for your friends, they were prettier. You understood the boys, your friends were and still are pretty and have beautiful personalities. Your eyes started to water, you grabbed some tissue and cleaned your eyes. A knock on the door interrupts your little moment. You opened it and there Johnny stood, “you okay?” he asks brows furrowed, “Yeah” you nod.
-
You get back in the car and sit with your body turned to the window. “Food was good.” He says breaking the silence. “Mhm.” you hum. “You got a buzz?” he chuckles, “No, I'm great.” you say quietly. Looking at the lights on the street. You can see a gas station coming up and an Idea pops up in your head. “Actually, can you stop at the gas station?” He looks at you confused but switches lanes to turn in anyway, “Is there a reason?” He questions you. “I’m gonna get another ride, I have something else after this.”
“I can drop you off-” you cut him off quickly, “No need!”
He pulls into the gas station and you get out, waving at him, you walk to the entry. A lady with bright blue eyeshadow works the front counter, “Nice shoes.” you look down, “Thank you” you smile.  You open your contacts and click on Simons, not thinking at all.
“Hello?” his deep voice picks up. “Hey.” you say softly, “Were you sleeping?”
“I was laying down.” he says, not confirming or denying. “I’ll call some other time-”  he stops you with a hush, “What’s wrong?” you suck in a breath and that makes him sigh. “What happened?” he asks, concerned.
“I’m at a gas station.”

Balkanika's Special Grapes Bundle
What Winery would be without a proper Vineyard, am I right?
This project includes 9 brand new types of Grapes that your Sim can take care of, and harvest. All grapes function as my indoor harvestables!
When you first buy the plant you'll see only the watering interaction and after some hours you'll be able to collect the first patch of grown produce. Afterwards the interaction will be available once a day.
Water the plant 1 a day.
Harvest grapes 1 a day.
Tagged as fruit
Toddlers can eat it
It can be eaten raw or cooked
Compatible with SCCO
Types of grapes:
Vinelines (you can place them next to each other and build a real vineyard with them). They come in two types - regular with three vines (note that they are high poly!), and single with only one vine.
Cabernet
Merlot
Chardonnay
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MORE UNDER THE CUT
Trellis (grow them vertically on a trellis, you can place them close to each other, maybe even on a wall to imitated that they are build on it)
Rubin
Mavrud
Dimyat
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pergola (it's fully functional with empty space under it, where you can place a bench, table with chair, or anything you wish, and your Sim can go under it without a problem)
Pamid
Gamza
Keratsuda
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since my custom harvestables are not like the regular ones from the game, I let myself some frivolities.
When your Sim collect fruits, they will get basket with grapes, instead of single fruits, in their inventory.
From each pergola they can collect 4 baskets, each trellis 2 baskets, each vineline 3 baskets, and if it's a single vine - 1 basket.
1 basket contains 20 grape fruits.
Each type of grape has individual moodlet after consumed.
Grab fruits one by one from basket
First you'll see 'Check Basket' interaction, before the option to 'Grab Grape'
The baskets and the fruits both have fruit/ingredient tag and can be sold or used in cooking, if required any fruit
I also made Rail fence (see below gif), so you can build your perfect vineyard.
Tumblr media
Known issue: Note that my harvestables don't use the code of the EA harvetables interactions, therefore you'll need to manually click on every single grape to be watered/harvested. It doesn't work like the regular gardening where your Sim will collect from all automatically.
That's all from me for now, it's only a few days until the Wine Making Vat is ready as well, yay! I hope you enjoy this content, and please don't be shy to tag me, if you decide to use/build a vineyard with my items. I'd looove to see what you create (and I'll reblog everything :D)!

Blue Team Beach House: Entry, Kitchen, Laundry
Now that we've looked at some of the design considerations from the outside, we're ready to head indoors! I feel like I'm on an HGTV show.
Tumblr media
Right inside the front door (which, like most of the doors in this house, is tall and has a window feature - again, sight lines are important), we have the entryway. It's wide enough that it doesn't feel cramped, but still has plenty of storage space for things like keys, books, jackets, shoes, and exercise equipment (including but not limited to: Kelly's running kit and Linda's yoga mat). Which brings us to this post's first Design Consideration: Efficient Storage.
Tumblr media
There's a place for mail and a mirror to double-check that they look sufficiently rugged and intimidating before they go out in public. Eventually there will be pictures in those frames. The holo-panel by the front door is the manual control hub for the dumb AI that runs the house's utility systems. (I'm still undecided on a name for it. I'd take suggestions.)
The color palette of the entryway more or less informs the theme for the whole house; various shades of blue and natural wood. Light floors and ceilings contrast with the dark blue walls and keep things from feeling too closed-in.
Tumblr media
Directly in front of the entry is the kitchen and it's a straight shot through to the laundry area (but we'll get there in a second). Also, remember what I said about edible plants?
Tumblr media
An indoor herb garden! Right around the corner from the entry, and just a few steps away from the kitchen (it's all open-plan anyway) there's fresh basil, sage, parsley, grapes, mushrooms, and garlic. Linda has assigned herself to plant care, she likes the routine of checking in on them every morning. (Quick shoutout to the moveobjects cheat for allowing me to sink those huge clunky vertical planters into the wall a bit, they look so much better that way.) Behind that door is a little shotgun bathroom, but that's for a different post.
Tumblr media
The kitchen is spacious (as it needs to be when you have up to four huge people in it at once) with plenty of room to move around. Again, the coloring is light, mostly blond wood and white (easy to clean, as Kelly is so helpfully demonstrating) with the exception of the appliances, which add a balance of dark and/or colorful accents.
Tumblr media
Utensils, knives, and pans are wall-mounted to free up counter space and there are so many cabinets and drawers for storage.
Tumblr media
The decor throughout the house focuses mostly on wood and glass as its main elements, but there are industrial touches, seen here in the hanging lamps over the bar island and the brushed metal backsplash. (Player note: I added the blue floor light strips 1) because Halo is sci-fi and this house needed at least a little of that and 2) because the abrupt switch from wood to tile looked weird without a border.)
Tumblr media
Instead of a traditional dining table, there is a long bar with additional storage under the countertop. Again, the seating is sturdy and stable and matches the muted dusty blue of the walls and framing of the overhead lamps, adding some color to an otherwise very earthy palette. The hallway behind the kitchen wall provides a way to access the two downstairs suites (Fred's and Kelly's) in a way that doesn't involve cutting through the kitchen. Neither of those doors are in the hallway, and as such can be seen from multiple angles on the ground floor, reducing blind spots to points of entry and egress.
Tumblr media
Tucked under the stairs, next to Kelly's room, is the laundry area. As is par for the course, the washer and dryer are stacked to save space and nearly everything else is wall-mounted or stored on shelves.
Tumblr media
The second Design Consideration I hope this post has demonstrated is: Unobstructed Space To Move. This will continue to be apparent throughout the rest of the house, but I feel like it's especially applicable on the ground floor where the walkways are wide and nothing is closed off from anything else in such a way that makes it difficult to access quickly.

Horticulture definition & Branches
Horticulture is a subfield of agriculture that focuses on the cultivation, management, and study of plants used for non-food purposes like medicine or industry. It also includes non-food crops like flowers and ornamental plants. In order to produce high-quality and profitable crops for a variety of uses, including food production, landscaping, ornamental adornment, and more, it involves a wide range of plant-related operations, including planting, breeding, irrigating, growing, harvesting, and post-harvest processing. Horticulture is a broad field that includes everything from modest backyard gardens to extensive commercial operations, and it frequently entails the use of specialized knowledge and techniques to improve the growth and development of plants.
Enhancing the quality, quantity, nutritional value, and aesthetic appeal of plants—whether they are cultivated for food, medicine, ornamentation, or other purposes—is the aim of horticulture. To maximize the growing conditions and productivity of plants, horticulturists use a variety of procedures, including breeding, grafting, pruning, and pest management.
Pomology: This branch of horticulture is concerned with the cultivation of fruits. Pomologists study the production, storage, processing, and marketing of fruit crops such as apples, citrus fruits, grapes, and berries.
Olericulture: Olericulture is the branch of horticulture that deals with the production and cultivation of vegetables. It includes the study of vegetables from seed production to harvesting, storage, and marketing. Common vegetables studied in olericulture include tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, and onions.
Floriculture: Floriculture focuses on the cultivation of flowering and ornamental plants for their aesthetic and decorative qualities. This branch includes the production of flowers, cut foliage, potted plants, and landscaping materials. Floriculturists often work in the floral and landscaping industries.
Viticulture: Viticulture involves the cultivation of grapes for wine, raisins, and table grapes. This branch covers various aspects of grape production, including vineyard management, pest control, and the study of grape varieties suitable for different purposes.
Oenology: While not strictly a branch of horticulture, oenology is closely related as it involves the study of wine and winemaking. Oenologists focus on fermentation processes, wine chemistry, and sensory evaluation to produce high-quality wines.
Pest Management: This branch is concerned with the study of pests that affect horticultural crops and the development of strategies to manage and control these pests. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an approach that combines biological, cultural, physical, and chemical control methods to minimize the impact of pests on crops.
Post-Harvest Physiology and Technology: This branch deals with the handling, storage, transportation, and processing of horticultural crops after harvest. It aims to maintain the quality and freshness of produce from the farm to the consumer.
Urban horticulture: This field of study focuses on the special difficulties and opportunities associated with cultivating plants in urban settings. In order to improve urban green spaces, it includes endeavors like rooftop gardening, vertical gardening, and community gardening.
Seed Science and Technology: Seed science involves the study of seeds, including their development, germination, storage, and viability. Seed technologists focus on the development of high-quality seeds for improved crop production.
Turf Management: Turf management is concerned with the cultivation and maintenance of grasses for lawns, sports fields, and other recreational areas. It involves aspects such as mowing, fertilization, pest control, and irrigation.
These different types of horticulture demonstrate the diversity of plant-related activities and the important role they play in providing food, beautifying landscapes, supporting the economy, and contributing to human well-being. HEART'S FATE - CHAPTER 49
Tumblr media
*Warning: Adult Content*
Apparently, news travels fast under the sea and in the following hours, the palace fills with Mer-folk coming to verify Skylar West's return with their own eyes.
Skylar explains to his partner, Martin Hunter, that most are relatives and friends, some are advisors and dignitaries and the rest are merely curious.
With the throne room sealed shut and guarded, they gather in the great hall.
Servants who move with the efficient unobtrusiveness of an invisible class set out tables and deck them with platters and trays of refreshments in the style of hors d'oeuvres, none of which Martin recognizes.
The most inviting are little grape-sized orbs that could be the fruit of some underwater plant but could also be some sea creature's eggs, for all he knew.
With no idea what will be palatable, much less safe for a land-walker to eat, Martin abstains.
Marin does his best to stick close to Skylar as he moves from one group to the next, greeting all with the gracious manner of a true prince.
Skylar does his best to include his mate in conversation but it's soon abundantly clear that Martin is both literally and figuratively out of his depth and about as useful as a bowl of wax fruit, purely decorative, not particularly interesting and a waste of valuable space.
Finally, as Skylar is pulled into yet another conversation that reminds Martin of the time he wandered into an upper division maths seminar when he was looking for his Modern American Lit class, Anemone appears at his side and takes pity on him.
"Would you like to see the library?" she asks, linking her arm with mine.
"My brother mentioned that you write books."
"I'd love to," Martin says, casting her a grateful smile.
Shyly she leads Martin from the crowd and into a mercifully empty hallway.
Martin lets out his breath in a sigh of relief, not having realized how much tension he'd been holding in.
"You are like me, I think," Anemone says.
Martin looked over at her as they pass beneath a massive portrait in a gilded frame and Anemone stops to look at it.
"In what way?"
She wears a long, sparkling dress of light blue silk that hugs her slim figure to the knee, where it flares into an explosion of ruffles, making her look like some fiery-haired nymph emerging from a waterspout.
"You dislike crowds. Crowds of strangers, anyway," she says.
"Sky told me the population of Thassos is only a few thousand. I imagined you would know just about everyone."
"Oh, no. We are very isolated here in the palace 'well-protected,' I should say. Natalis has seen to that. She's very beautiful, isn't she?"
"Your sister?"
Anemone laughs and nods up at the portrait.
"No, you silly squid. My mother. That's her."
"Oh, yes, of course."
The woman in the portrait is, admittedly, gorgeous and from what Martin has seen of her children, he suspect that the beauty depicted is true to life and not the artist's flattery.
Her hair falls over her shoulder like a cascade of golden silk, her features are flawless and her large, slightly wide-set eyes are the same sea-green as Skylar's.
"She's lovely. Are you... excited to speak with her again?"
Anemone shakes her head.
"Not 'again.' I was very young when she was taken from us. I have known her only as a statue and from portraits like this. I hardy remember her, otherwise."
"Are you so much younger than Skylar?" Martin asks, failing to hide his surprise. "I mean..."
She giggles, thankfully unoffended.
"We all look about the same age now, don't we? But yes, my brother was already a young man when I was born. Natalis is the closest to his age but the rest of us have a few years between us. I'm five years behind my next youngest sister and nearly twenty behind Scyllian.”
Martin frowns at this.
"Then your father is also..."
"Basically a stranger to me," she says.
"What about Sky?"
Anemone smiles.
"Natalis is a tyrant but thankfully she allowed us to go on holidays. Every winter, we travel south to an island we own. If he's near enough and able, my brother joins us there. His tales of the mainland were the highlights of my childhood."
She sighs.
"Sadly, Natalis has never allowed the rest of us to set foot upon land beyond the island, that is."
"Natalis is in charge, then?" Martin asks.
Anemone nods.
"She has ruled Thassos since the day Scyllian left. There are many Mer-folk who have known no other leader."
"Will she be glad to give up the role, do you think?" Martin asks carefully.
Linking her arm through Martin’s once more, Anemone leads the way, down the hall to the library.
"No, I don't think so," she says. "In fact, I think she rather enjoys being 'Queen.' She's quite as powerful as mother, you know, a real sea-witch. It's very bad form to use our voices to make others do things against their will. In fact, it's against our laws but she certainly could if she wanted to."
Anemone changes the subject after that and they enter the library, a vaulted space with curving, tri-level walls lined with shelves and packed floor to ceiling with books.
If Martin’s twin brother, Noah were here in his place, this room might be enough to convince him to leave the surface world behind for good.
But he's not here, though and while the library is magnificent, Martin’s thoughts and attention are elsewhere.
Something wasn't adding up.
If Natalis knew her father was alive all along, burdened by his half of the amulet and kept away from Thassos by the same curse that banished Sky, why had she not shared this knowledge with her siblings?
Why not explain her father's innocence and have him join them on their 'island holidays?'
Even if he couldn't return home, at least Anemone and her sisters would have grown up knowing their father and Sky wouldn't have had to bear the guilt of thinking he'd caused his father's death.
"Martin?"
He realises Anemone has asked him a question and winces.
‘It seems my manners are really not up to royal standards.’
"I'm sorry. What did you say?"
She giggles.
"You must really like books. We've been here quite a while and I was wondering if we ought to get back before they send out a search party. You'll have plenty of time to read once you embrace the sea. As Scllian’s consort, your duties won't include much beyond... Well, you shall have plenty of time to do what you wish."
Martin frowns.
‘I thought Sky had cleared up this matter already.’
"We're not staying," he says. "Once your mother is free, we're returning to the land."
Anemone smiles easily.
"Of course. Well, let's get back to it, then."
She takes his hand but Martin resists her pull.
"Anemone, wait. You understand, don't you? I have four children and a family. I can't stay."
Her smile fades a little.
"But if you could forget them, you could be happy here, couldn't you?"
Affronted by the question, Martin releases her hand.
"How would I 'forget' my children? They're my life."
She tilts her head to the side and raises her hand to touch the side of my face.
"Easily enough. Natalis is powerful, as gifted as mother. But she's got nothing on me. I have to be careful every time I open my mouth and it's quite difficult to control myself sometimes."
Surprised, Martin backs away from her.
"My brother belongs here," she says softly. "You can see that, can't you? How easily he fits in. How happy he is."
"Yes," he admits.
Skylar was more at home in the palace than anywhere I'd seen him yet, which made sense because...
"But he won't stay without you," Anemone continues. "You could be happy, too, if you'd only give it a chance."
"I thought you were the one who wanted to see the surface?" he asks, confused and alarmed as Anemone's face pales, all trace of humor vanishing and tears making her wide eyes sparkle like sea-green stars.
"I do," she whispers. "But we cannot escape our duty or our fate and mine is here. Yours is here, too, isn't it?"
Far too late, it occurs to Martin that he  should cover his ears.
"I'm not sure."
"It is," she says softly but with a certainty that leaves no room for doubt. "You and Scyllian are destined for this place. You have a past and a family but you can leave them behind without guilt. No one will miss you, anyway. Will they?"
A painful memory flashes through Martin’s mind.
A needle in his hand as he stands at his father's back and then over his body, unsure if he had killed him.
The look of shock and pain, fear and anger, an unforgiveable betrayal.
"No. No one will miss me," he hears himself say.
"And you are happy with Scyllian, aren't you? Wherever he is, you are happy to be with him."
"Yes. They say home is where the heart is and your brother has my heart."
Anemone nods.
She smiles but tears overflow the rims of her eyes and Martin don't understand why.
"Good," she says. "You are welcome here, Martin Hunter. You are safe and happy and loved. And you are free. You may do as you wish and worry no more. Isn't it wonderful?"
A sense of profound peace washes over him, at the same time, Martin feels as if he has walked into a room with a list of Very Important Things To Do in his head and forgotten every one of them.
"Yes," Martin agrees. "It is wonderful."
"Good."
Anemone smiles, though it seems she also weeps and takes his hand.
"Let us return to the others, then. Scyllian is waiting."
"Of course," Martin says and allows her to lead him from the room, shaking his head and laughing at himself under his breath.
Thassos is perfect, after all.
Why would he ever want to leave?

💫The Occult Club.
Tumblr media
Chapter 13: Ginkgo Biloba.
Warnings: Mentions of coma and illness. || Word count: 1k.
So much had changed after the last time Y/N texted Jungwon. With the help of Sunoo’s unknown connections, rumors about the Occult Club started to spread within the school, making students visit the cabin in the woods almost everyday. Jake and Sunghoon had made sure the place was accessible and easy to find, tying blue ribbons to trees to signal a safe path. Riki had occupied an unused corner to assemble a small laboratory, dedicated to make his elixirs; he was not sure if it was legal to sell them, though. With the helpful advice provided by Jungwon’s grandma, the youngest was also able to plant his own herbs in the forest.
The club members had been so busy that none of them realized an entire week had passed after they lost contact with the girl. Riki tried to reach her but was ignored, so he took it as a sign to leave her some space. He would not admit it out loud, but it hurt a little seeing her alone during lunch and recess, it made him feel like the worst best friend in the world. Jungwon was worried, too, but contrary to the alchemist he would voice his concerns one in a while.
It was on friday evenings like that one when they would reach a peak in visitors, making it almost impossible to rest, but none of them minded; the boys felt passionate about their “jobs”, after all. After closing time the members would gather at the table, which was now covered in purple cloth thanks to the money they earned from their services.
一Hey, Riki一 Sunoo called the boy, offering him a bottle of grape juice 一We’ve been so busy that I forgot I wanted to ask you something一 Now all the members were paying attention to their conversation. 一Why did you want to become an alchemist? I mean, at such a young age一. Instead of facing the numerologist, the younger boy analyzed the drink as if he suddenly cared about its nutritional value. 一All of you are young too, I don’t know what you mean一.
一Yeah, but一 Sunghoon meddled 一Alchemy is a lot different, it’s more complicated and scientific一. Riki started to feel a bit pressured with all four pairs of eyes fixed on him 一At first, I wanted to become a florist一. He took a moment to contemplate what he was going to say, until he reached the conclusion that now, as he had become an official member of the club, there was no harm in telling them the whole story. It took him a long pause and a few deep breaths to continue 一But when I was younger, my mom fell severely ill. At first I thought that the doctors could help her, but years passed and nothing changed, so I started to study how plants can help people, and now I’m perfecting an elixir to wake my mom up from coma一 The alchemist finally raised his head and was met with four worried faces. It was never easy to share one’s burdens, but he did not regret opening up, those boys were his friends now.
一I’m so sorry一 Sunoo placed a hand on Riki’s arm in a comforting way 一I shouldn't have made you talk about that一. Riki waved him off 一Don’t worry, the doctors said she’s stable, I know she will recover as soon as she wakes up一 The hope in his voice sounded genuine, as if he had foreseen the future 一My mom is very strong一.
一Yeah? Then you must have gotten that from her, she’ll be so proud to find out you are doing so much to help her一 Jungwon tried to encourage him, smiling to ease the previous tension.
The leader’s comment seemed to remind Riki of something, and suddenly his tone was sorrowful again 一If only I had made any progress… But after almost thirty tries I can’t seem to get it right. I’ve been mixing leaves of Ginkgo Biloba with many other things, but there’s no response…一 He paused to look at the clueless expressions in his friend’s faces 一Sorry, you probably have no idea what I’m talking about一 He opened a new drink, in hopes of drowning his negative thoughts in grape juice.
一You are right一 Jungwon replied, a part of him slightly worried about the alchemist’s blood sugar levels 一But I might know of someone who does…一
(...)
一Don’t worry, I’m glad to be of help一 Jungwon’s grandma had reassured Riki for the nth time that evening after he apologized for taking up her time. The old woman looked at his grandson 一You are a good friend, Jungwonie, I’m very proud of you一. The tarotist muttered a small “thank you” as he tried to hide his embarrassment, was there any need to say something like that in front of everyone?
The three of them were walking down the hospital hallway, in search of Ms. Nishimura’s room. After knocking a few times, a nurse opened the door and left to give them some privacy.
The senior tarotist felt her heart sink after seeing the woman’s face, she knew that Riki’s last name sounded a bit too familiar. 一I know why the elixir has not worked一 She announced. The boys looked at each other in amazement at how fast the diagnosis was made. 一She was not affected physically, so medicine has no effect一 The woman looked at Riki 一I need to perform a ritual to cleanse her, if you give permission, of course一.
Everything was so sudden, but after the week spent listening to the old woman’s knowledge about magic, the alchemist decided to trust her. He had tried almost everything for a whole year and his mom was still the same, maybe it was time to face the problem from a new perspective. Riki nodded in order to give her consent to proceed.
一Jungwon, honey, please close the curtains and hand me my bag. You two have to wait outside, understand?一 The boys did as they were told and exited the room. Riki catched a last glimpse of his mother before gently closing the door.
(...)
After almost twenty minutes of waiting, Riki, who had been the whole time silently staring at the white floor tiles, broke down in tears. The sudden sound of sobbing alerted Jungwon, who immediately tried to comfort the taller boy, placing a hand on his shoulder and handing him a tissue. 一Don’t worry, granny has a lot of experience in these things, she used to be like us when she was young, you know?一 He completely understood the situation his friend was facing right now, but Jungwon was not a good talker nor did he know how to comfort people, so he could not help but feel impotent at the sight.
一It’s not that… I know I can trust her…It’s just…一 Riki was trying his best to stop crying and form a coherent sentence, but tears just would not cease from peeking at the corners of his eyes. 一I can’t believe I spent a whole year doing useless things, when the answer wasn’t even a medicine一.
一But how could you know that?一 The leader replied 一You are already so mature and brave to be doing this much at your age一 It almost sounded as if Jungwon was talking to himself, and he could notice it, too 一But some things are just out of our control, I don’t know your mother, but anyone would feel proud to have a son like you… All this time trying your best for the sake of someone else when it’s not even your responsibility…一 He could not tell the exact moment when his own expression started to mirror Riki’s, but he would not cry, his friend needed him to be a pilar and lend a shoulder to cry on, even if Jungwon had his own reasons to break down right at that moment, too.

Something to live for
Chapter 4
The caretaker moved through the crowd naturally, she knew everyone and everyone knew her. The girl clung to her hand as they navigated the tight spaces of the main hall. At times she would move elegantly and with determination at others she stumbled trying to keep pace hoping to not lose the caretaker out of sight. After they had dropped off their gifts the girl began pressing herself closer to the caretaker and the caretaker understood and from there on traversed at a comfortable speed for the girl. There were a lot of queer folks present at the celebration, outcasts and weirdos that had found no other place to go. But even so the mood was merry and the people were having fun. The caretaker brought the two of them over to the friends she had made whilst supporting the village with organizing and she introduced them to the girl. The girl did a small but elegant bow and greeted them with her soft and flowering voice.
The guacamole was a success and so was introducing the girl to the rest of the village. At first she mostly hid behind the caretaker or scrutinized her reflection in the colorful glass of the window. The caretaker saw her struggle with her distorted reflection and as much as she tried to make her see how gorgeous she truly was she could not get through to her. She decided not to poke around too much so as not to open up the wounds again. And after some time the girl managed to free herself of her fears all through her own strength. No longer weighed down, she drifted through the room joining into conversations and planting friendly bonds. Cheerful laughter and kind comments accompanied her throughout the night. From time to time, when a chair fell over or people bumped into her, instincts would take hold and she would either freeze or try to hide. But the caretaker always knew how to find her and how to draw her out of whichever hole she had crawled up in. Kind words and the safety of her arms as well as a little grape juice usually got her up on her feet again. But after an incident where not just a chair but an entire table had collapsed she instead decided to go home for the night. Fearing that she had ruined the caretaker's evening she demanded that the caretaker should stay a while longer to have some fun.
The caretaker stepped outside for a quick breather. Overall the evening had been a resounding success. Whilst the girl still struggled, she had also improved a whole lot and the caretaker was proud of her. She had used the time where she wasn't reassuring the girl to look on from the sidelines. Next to watching over the girl she had also tried to spot the mystical black dress of an old friend in the crowd. But the Witch she had met in the forests close to here had not attended this party. But there would be other times to introduce these two Forest dwellers to each other, the caretaker reassured herself. Luckily for her mood, her worries about the Witch were interrupted by the young blacksmith, who chatted a bit with her during the festivities. She drew in the cold night air and tried to cool down a little. Above her the full moon illuminated the sky, she knew that she was gonna have to help the girl find comfort sleeping tonight. But she looked forward to it, as she didn't mind staying up all night with her, just holding each other. Her moment of peace and joy was interrupted by the ringing of the bells in one of the watchtowers. Raiders.

How to bring the relaxed elegance of the Mediterranean to your garden

How to bring the relaxed elegance of the Mediterranean to your garden
The Mediterranean warmth is an elegant and relaxed style that, if applied to your garden, will undoubtedly become a wonderful place to spend your free time. Want to know more about how to achieve it? Pay close attention to everything we have to tell you and choose the options that best fit your home and personal style.
Color palette inspired by the sky and the sea
The Mediterranean region is known for its stunning landscapes, where the blue of the sky meets the shimmer of the sea. To capture this essence in your garden, choose a color palette that includes relaxing tones such as light blue, bright white, and olive green.
You can incorporate these colors in cushions for your outdoor furniture, painted pots, or even in the choice of plants with intense green foliage. Without a doubt, choosing the right color palette will achieve this style that you love so much.
Wicker or rattan furniture
Wicker or rattan furniture is emblematic of the Mediterranean region and adds a touch of relaxed elegance to any outdoor space. Opt for wicker dining chairs and tables to create a cozy and authentic atmosphere.
These furniture pieces, in addition to being visually appealing, are durable and resistant to weather conditions, perfect for enjoying your garden all year round.
Aromatic plants and colorful flowers
Plants and flowers play a crucial role in creating the Mediterranean atmosphere. Introduce aromatics like lavender, rosemary, and thyme, not only to add lovely fragrances but also to infuse a culinary touch to your space.
Combine these plants with vibrant flowers like bougainvillea, bougainvillea, or geraniums to achieve a burst of color that reflects the joy of Mediterranean gardens. You’ll have a wonderful aroma in your garden and it will be a visual feast.
Pergolas and vines for shade
In the Mediterranean region, outdoor life is fully enjoyed under charming shades. Introduce a pergola covered in vines like wisteria or grapes, providing a cool and shaded corner for your moments of relaxation.
The vines can offer you shade and you’ll also have a romantic and rustic touch in your garden that will allow you to enjoy the elegance and relaxation of Mediterranean patios.
Terracotta floors
Terracotta floors are a classic choice that evokes the warmth of the Mediterranean. You can opt for terracotta tiles to create a pathway or seating area. This type of flooring not only adds a warm and cozy base, but also reflects the authenticity of traditional Mediterranean floors. Also, terracotta is durable and easy to maintain, ideal for outdoor spaces.
Soft lighting for your nights in the garden
Mediterranean nights are full of charm, and the right lighting can bring that magic to your garden. Opt for soft lights, like lanterns, string lights, or floor lamps with a Mediterranean design. Taking this into account will allow you to have good night light and also add a magical touch to your garden, ideal for enjoying nights under the stars.
Water areas with fountains
The sound of water is a distinctive feature of many Mediterranean gardens. Introduce fountains, small ponds, or even a simple wall fountain to add a relaxing touch to your space. The gentle murmur of water will create a serene atmosphere and transport you to the Mediterranean coast, where the sea breeze blends with the whisper of the waves.
Bringing the relaxed elegance of the Mediterranean region to your garden is easier than you think. With these ideas, you can transform your outdoor space into a personal Mediterranean corner. So, take inspiration from the natural beauty of this region and create a garden that not only reflects your style, but also transports you to the tranquil serenity of the Mediterranean coast.

The Appeal of Seasonal Fruit Tablescapes
Before we go into the juicy details (pun intended), let’s talk about why seasonal fruit tablescapes have become such a beloved trend. In a world where ecological components are making a strong comeback in interior design, using fresh produce as a centerpiece is an absolute game-changer. There’s an undeniable appeal in bringing the outdoors in, and seasonal fruits provide the perfect canvas for this artistic expression.

Imagine the beauty of a table adorned with fresh fruits, each piece a burst of color and flavor. It’s not just about decor; it’s about celebrating the changing seasons, embracing the freshness of nature, and instilling life and energy into the area. What makes fruit displays even more incredible is their versatility. Whether you’re hosting a spring brunch, a summer soirée, a fall harvest feast, or a cozy winter gathering, fruits in season can adapt and enhance your theme seamlessly.
Choosing the Right Seasonal Fruits
Now, let’s get down to the intricacies of shaping a striking seasonal fruit centerpiece. It all starts with choosing the right fruits. The key here is to select fruits that are in season. Not only does this ensure that your embellishment is bursting with freshness, but it connects your decor to the rhythm of nature.
Seasonal Fruit Tablescape Ideas Artificial Lemon Plant Centerpiece
Let’s break it down by season! For spring, think strawberries, cherries, kiwis and apricots. For summer, embrace the tropical vibes with pineapples, mangoes, and watermelons. For fall, apples, pears, grapes, and figs steal the show. For winter, citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits, and clementines bring a burst of sunshine to the cold winter months. To source the freshest fruits, consider visiting local farmers’ markets or even your garden if you’re a green-thumbed enthusiast.
Designing Your Fruit Tablescape
Now that you’ve selected your seasonal fruits, let’s talk about designing a tablescape with a cohesive theme. You can go for a rustic, boho-chic look, or perhaps a more elegant and modern vibe, or pick a color palette that complements your existing decor and fruits. Once you’ve nailed down your theme, choose tablecloths and napkins that complement the hues of your chosen fruits. Earthy tones, crisp whites, or dynamic patterns can all work wonders.

Decide on plates, bowls, and serving platters that provide a beautiful backdrop for your fruits. Clear glass or minimalist white ceramics are excellent choices. Enhance your arrangement with decorative elements like candles, fresh flowers, or greenery. These accents can tie everything together and add depth to your setup. Also, consider incorporating organic components like wooden trays or woven baskets. These add texture and depth to your display, making it feel more inviting. Consider arranging fruits in a cascading pattern, or mixing and matching different types for a captivating display. Always aim for balance and visual appeal.
Seasonal Fruit Tablescape Ideas
Now, let’s get resourceful and look through some seasonal fruit tablescape ideas that’ll surely impress everyone! For spring, picture a pastel paradise with a centerpiece of fresh tulips and a scattering of ripe strawberries and blueberries. For summer, transport your guests to a tropical oasis with a pineapple centerpiece, coconut accents, and refreshing fruits like watermelon and mangoes.

For an all-season fruit display, combine a variety of colorful fruits like grapes, apples, and citrus, paired with neutral elements such as crystal vases and candles. This versatile centerpiece can be your go-to for any occasion, all year round!
Tips for Keeping Fruit Fresh
You’ve put in the effort to create a dazzling fruit ensemble, and you want it to stay fresh throughout your event. First, timing is crucial. Set up your tablescape as close to the event start time as possible to prevent wilting. If you need to prepare in advance, store your fruits in the fridge or a cool, shaded area, and assemble them right before the party.

To prevent browning, lightly brush fruits like apples and pears with lemon juice. This not only preserves their color but adds a zesty aroma to the reception. For leafy fruits, mist them with water to maintain their crispness. The last thing for you to do is to slice fruits just before serving to maintain their freshness.
Showcasing Your Colorful Delight
To capture the true beauty of your tablescape, pay attention to lighting, angles, and photography. Soft, natural light works wonders for showcasing the vibrant colors of the fruits. Experiment with different camera angles to find the most flattering shots. Showcase the details—the glistening water droplets on a ripe strawberry, the intricate patterns of a sliced kiwi, or the radiant hues of a citrus medley. Don’t hesitate to snap some photos; after all, your creation deserves to be remembered!

A Flavorful Journey Awaits at Public Eatery in Robinsons Magnolia
After the success of the well-loved The Grid Food Market at the Powerplant Mall in Rockwell, the Tasteless Food Group has embarked on another flavorful adventure, this time at the bustling Robinsons Magnolia mall in New Manila. Public Eatery brings together a wide variety of creative dishes and flavors from some of the country’s top chefs and restaurateurs to let its diners embark on this wonderful culinary ride.
You can find Public Eatery at the fourth floor of Robinsons Magnolia’s new wing. The Hungry Kat was invited to go aboard this gastronomic excursion to sample the amazing dishes being offered by these stalls and restaurants. The food hall itself is quite large, but you can take a look at the map near the entrance to get acquainted with all the lovely foodie choices you have to satisfy your cravings.
Public Eatery is where the neighborhood meets to gather over good food. Robinsons Magnolia's resident food hall is ready to take guests on various culinary adventures. It had been a while since I last visited this mall, so I had to find my way around the new wing to get to the fourth floor which is almost fully occupied by Public Eatery. The place is designed like a modern train station, with food stalls scattered along the hallways and dining areas.
You can choose to sit near the restaurants or by the huge glass windows overlooking the gardens below. The food hall is really spacious and can probably accommodate more than 200 diners at a time. There are currently over 16 food stalls and counting, with notable names such as Scout’s Honor and Bored & Hungry opening soon. This is not just your typical food hall because Public Eatery offers a much more elevated dining experience.
We were privileged to be one of the media partners to be given a special “train ticket” that lets us hop on and explore all of the restaurants inside Public Eatery. With all these options on our table, it took us several yummy visits to complete our flavorful journey and I’m here to let you in on the ride.
Let’s start with some of the featured beverages at the Public Eatery. FRNK is a Japanese Milk Bar that offers a variety of healthy artisanal milk drinks and plant-based options to choose from.
We got the Grape Sea Salt Milk (P165) which comes with a combination of fresh grapes, homemade sea salt milk caps, and basil drops. We paired this with their plant-based Nut Butter Brownies (P140) with dark chocolate and peanut butter for a tasty snack.
If you like coconuts, then you should go for the fresh, healthy and sustainable coconut drinks from Boo Koh. Our local coconut is the star in all their refreshing drinks that combine different flavors and sinkers that you can mix and match. We tried the Ube Coconut Milk (P205) with boba tapioca pearls and nata de coco. Other unique bookoh variants include the Coconut Pandan Gula Melaka Juice, Iced Coconut Vietnamese Coffee, Coconut Aloe Tea, and Coconut Lychee Passionfruit Juice.
Coffee lovers will definitely enjoy the offerings at Morse Coffee which is by the Making it Happen travel vlogger Mike Holaschke. The Flat White Tiramisu (P230) comes with a pair of lady fingers which is a great option any time of the day.
The Bev Bar offers a wide selection of refreshments including coffee, shakes, coolers, juices, yohgurt and even cocktails. Chef Patrick Go is an expert is creating drinks that go perfectly with different kinds of dishes so you will surely find one that suits your tastes. Some of the drinks we tried include The Bev Bar Scramble (P160), their take on the classic childhood beverage we loved to drink, while the Milo Crunch Dinosaur (P120) combines chocolate cereals with the Milo dinosaur drink. They also have healthy fruit teas like the Summer Peach (P115).
Now let’s try some of their appetizers! There’s so much space to explore at the Public Eatery so you will really get thirsty and hungry after walking around the food hall.
You can get freshly shucked Aklan oysters that can be cooked in a variety of ways at the Seafood Oyster Bar. We had the oysters baked in Miso Custard (P360 per 6 pcs.) and it was really fresh and delicious.
Dive into the healthy and vibrant flavors of Hawaii with these poke bowls from Ono Poke. Every bowl is an exploration of coasts and culture with the freshest ingredients and authentic sauces. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Crunch Bowl (P420) which comes with a colorful combination of aburi tuna, tempura flakes, nori, cabbage, green onion, cucumber, furikake, and spicy mayo.
Konbini Karaage is a Japanese-inspired snack bar offering juicy and mouthwatering chicken karaage for those on the go. Each order of Karaage (P189) comes with your choice of powder and sauces which include curry dip, hickory bbq dip. cheese dip. yuzu salt, cheese powder, shichimi togarashi, and others.
Samyan is where you can get your favorite Thai dishes and flavors. Their Crab Pad Thai (P720) is one of the best pad thai versions you can find in the city. This typical Thai street food comes with generous servings of crab meat on top of stir-fried rice noodles mixed with peanuts, scrambled egg, and bean sprouts.
The popular Bad Bird and its umami fried chicken also makes an appearance with its own version of the Fish & Chips (P450). This comes with a huge piece of deep-fried battered fish with fries and tartar sauce on the side.
Don’t forget to visit the stalls on this side which offers main courses that can satisfy even the hungriest of diners.
10 by Tsuke-Men has the Tonkotsu Premium Ramen (P440) which is a rich and hearty bowl of ramen. This has a savory pork chashu and tamago on top of its rich and flavorful pork bone broth.
On the other hand, Anyhow offers its international line-up of ihaw-ihaw where guests can make their own grilled sets. The first step is to choose your meat from pork belly, chicken, bangus, or salmon. Of course, I chose the US Beef Belly (P490) for my meat. I then had it grilled using American Hickory BBQ and served with Garlic Adobo Rice and Mushroom Sisig.
New York Cubao offers an interesting array of Filipino fusion dishes from celebrity chef Myke Sarthou. Chef Tatung, as he is fondly called, upgrades the typical Pinoy breakfast and lunch specialties into its Americanized versions. The Ribs Don’t Lie (P595) are tocino-style pork ribs served with garlic rice, two sunny-side up eggs, and atsara. It’s a peculiar mix of flavors and this is probably the first time we had encountered ribs cooked this way. You have to try it to really experience it.
More of our favorites are just around the corner. Thomson Road is a Singaporean-inspired restaurant from Alabang that offers claypot rice, jumbo shrimp siomai, hearty baos, and laksa.
My husband loves to eat claypot rice so he ordered the Butcher’s Claypot Rice (P380). This one has a sizzling combination of pork belly, chicken, and Chinese chorizo cooked in a rice casserole in seasoned claypot with signature rice crust.
My mother-in-law also joined us on the ride at Public Eatery one day. She wanted to try some of the featured Middle Eastern dishes at OK, Bob where you can enjoy your meals in a different way, especially with their hanging kebab dishes.
The Hanging Truffled Chicken Shish (P550) has tender chicken breast marinated in curry spiced yoghurt and served with Sumac salad, grilled tomato, green chili, and truffle sauce. It’s definitely a unique way of presenting this dish and this is always a popular choice among diners.
As for me, my favorite stall at The Grid Food Market and now here at Public Eatery is still LèChon by Chef Happy Ongpauco-Tiu. I really love their lechon specialties including porchetta, beef, chicken, tuna belly and even sisig so this is the first stall I visited when I arrived.
Chef Happy was present during the media launch of Public Eatery and everyone was excited to try their lechon dishes. The first step is to choose your lechon so I got the Lechon Angus Beef Belly (P525). I had it prepared with Tanglad Butter and served with Grilled Talong and baba ganoush plus Lèchon’s original butter rice. Lastly, I added adobo white sauce as my dip.
We then ended our journey with some artisanal ice cream from Merry Moo. We chose the Salted Caramel ice cream but they have other interesting flavors such as cheesy mamon, auro dark chocolate, Hizon’s mocha cake, and more. Public Eatery is an exciting new food concept that will really elevate the Quezon City and New Manila dining experience. You will never run out of excellent choices whenever you come here. See you again soon at Public Eatery in Robinsons Magnolia!

July 1939: New Home Detailed
July 2, 1939 – Detroit Free Press
For Women Only by Grace Wilcox
The Gables at Home
There is something of a race on among some hundred or so journalists and magazine writers to get a description of the Clark Gable-Carole Lombard estate. There seems to be a distinct catch in it, for the newlyweds absolutely refuse to have their place photographed in detail.
“It isn’t that we want to be mean,” explains Carole, “but we like to feel that our home is our own, and anyway it isn’t finished yet. Possibly it never will be finished. That’s why it keeps us interested.”
Gable admits he has always wanted a farm. It has been a suppressed desire for years and now that he has 14 acres, he feels he has a start, especially with four horses in his stable.
In case you are interested, I can tell you something about the estate in words, if not in pictures. Here are two people who could have practically any sort of place they want. I am happy to say they have the good sense to keep well within bounds. It is a beautiful home, but not ostentatious; it is neither a palace, a castle nor a chateau, but a good early American farmhouse of seven rooms, which may easily be cared for by one or two persons. They have no desire for a large staff of servants and so far, they have done most of the work themselves.
Back in the Valley, about a mile off Ventura Blvd., a winding drive leads up to the house, the gardens of which are surrounded by a split-rail, whitewashed fence.
It is set in the midst of a forest, for Clark has about 900 trees of various kinds, more than 100 of them citrus, planted on the grounds. He takes great pride in the fact that his farm supplies the family table with fresh fruits in season, avocados and all the vegetables. There are 1,000 chickens, a mule, four dogs, a milch cow, the four horses, innumerable cats. There is a pine tack room off the modern, up-to-the-minute stables. In this are the saddles, bridles, and farm equipment.
Each stall is provided with a feed bucket which swings automatically into the stall – the same system used at racetracks for the blooded stock. There are long chicken coops, dog kennels, a milk house; there are several acres of pastureland, a terraced grape vineyard, fig trees, flower gardens, lawns and shrubbery. A garage for four cars houses two coupes and a station wagon. Both Clark and Carole drive their own cars: they have no chauffeur. A complete irrigation system is being installed.
Inside the house, one receives an immediate impression of great comfort and serenity. There is light everywhere, with no heavy drapes to keep it out.
A huge living room extends right across the front of the house. This is furnished in quiet taste, with a special white davenport upholstered in plain, creamish-white whipcord material, several chairs in creams and rust color, tables, divans, carpets, drapes and woodwork carrying forward the light and airy effect, with just enough color to lend contrast. It is the sort of room one would rather sit in and talk, or smoke or read than to write about; it has charm, it is livable and peaceful with a great fireplace, brass andirons and copper kettles.
Off this is the dining room, which is done in knotty pine, with early American dining room furniture of pine. The buffet and set of shelves display Carole’s collection of silver, China and pewter.
To the right of the living room is gable’s gunroom, with one of the finest collections of modern and ancient weapons, from old flintlocks to the newest inventions in pistols and rifles. His most treasured brace of flintlock guns are crossed over the fireplace in the living room. Off the gun room is a specially built ice-box room for hanging his game after a hunting trip.
With the well-equipped office and kitchen, this comprises the downstairs living quarters.
Upstairs the master bedroom is done in leather, with a deep tan color predominating. A huge dressing room with plenty of cupboard and closet space, easy chairs, comfortable reading stands, proper lighting and a generally masculine effect makes an excelling loafing place.
Mrs. Gable’s boudoir is in pastel shades, with a sort of pink-orchid color scheme in upholstery and rugs. Here there is a great deal of white in the pointe d’esprit curtains, walls and furniture. She has a dressing room with revolving mirrors on the dressing table and with mirrors as wall panels. Her closets are also very large, with built-in shelves for hats, shoes, bags, etc. Although her room is delicate and lovely, it is by no means fluffy or hard to live in. Its furnishings have character and are designed for comfort as well as beauty.
So far, they have a man and his wife as caretakers. A bungalow is being built for them on the estate. Later they will have a housekeeper, cook and possibly a butler.
It would seem that Carole Lombard and Clark Gable have everything. It is just a little touching to hear them wistfully plead for privacy.
They laugh all the time, these two, and never seem to tire of ribbing each other. Carole has not lost her whimsical attitude toward life and certainly if Gable isn’t happy as any man can hope to be, he is doing a fine job of pretending.
