I've loved seeing Cadence's event artists takes on their outfits they're SO GOOD. I love seeing all the different designs!!! PLEASE @ me and Cadence I promise you, we'd love to see it <333 Also my ask box is always open if you want to chat!

I'm definitely going to be making more polished designs and drawing for this universe in the future (superhero aus my beloved I had SO much fun designing them)!

but for now, if you also love character design, have way too many thoughts about Ranchers and hero/villain costumes like me, and 3 pages wasn't enough, buckle up and enjoy my extra ramble under the cut:

When Cadence asked me to help design their outfits, the request boiled down to "i just need ideas, you don't have to like draw a whole Thing" but I'm so Normal about my blorbos so uh naturally it became A Whole Thing and when I got to Canary I had to frantically hit the brakes on my character design brain from making him too cool

Tango's design came easy, Canary's outfit less so. Surprisingly it's kinda hard to make a somewhat on theme but also basic hero outfit jsakfhajskfh

criteria for Canary at the time was a mix of on bird theme but also NOT on theme since he needed to be a bit basic for context of the fic so he WILL be getting a glow up later

We debated giving Canary a gas mask vs a beak-like mask for a long time, the bandana is my compromise while also hitting that Basic vibe. Its also a nod towards my Sheriff!Jimmy design & Ranchers

We have a long history of working on a OC superhero universe (lovingly dubbed soupverse) together, and while I also just think plague doctor vibes are Neat the concept of the beak being a hero/villain mask is partially pulled from my main villain, Crow who is also bird themed (shocking i know)

Canary having a silly jumpsuit was also loosely inspired by Zedaph's high dive Zedvancement skin from his S9 Ep 1!

Tinted lenses to hide your identity my beloved, what if we both had colored tinted lenses and were red and blue coded and were nemeses...haha jk...unless?

Just the other day, Cadence said to me what if Canary wore Uggs and lowkey he might asjkfhaksjf

Parrot, while not depicted eventually got summed up to Aviator vibes and obviously Canary had to match

A lot of this reference sheet was originally scrawled in my notes app and generally in my head. I cleaned it up for the event so while I'm sorry it's so messy, it was worse originally LOL

(for clarification, people with superpowers are called powers for short, and heroes/vigilantes/villains are called superpowers)

Tango picked up his phone, then opened his chat with Impulse. He hesitated for a second, glanced at his still broken elevator, then typed out a message. 

<Tango: hey you busy? i got a project i need help with>

He waited for a few seconds, staring at the unchanging screen, waiting for a reply to pop up. Usually it didn’t take too long for Impulse to respond, but Tango supposed that he wasn’t obligated to reply instantly, so he set his phone down and resumed glaring quizzically at his elevator. Another two hours passed before his phone finally chimed. 

Finally, Tango thought. Took him long enough. 

Then he opened the message. It was a video. Tango raised an eyebrow, then pressed play. 

“Long time, no see, huh Tango? Oh, sorry, Blaze.” Tango’s heart almost stopped. The video continued to play. “It has been a while, but I will say I haven’t forgotten about you, Tango.”

He made out a figure in the front of the frame. They were clothed in all black, with flickers of a burgundy and dark purple shimmering across their suit. Their eyes glowed bright white, the light sliding across the camera lense, flaring out like lightning. The Wither.  

“You fascinate me. That was the only time I’ve every had a power escape almost unharmed.” Tango’s lungs ached as he was shot back into the past for a few seconds. “So, I got a little something that you want enough to give me a second shot.”

They stepped aside. Behind them, light glinted off the edges of a metal chair. In that chair sat Impulse, his eyes screaming through the camera lens. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but no sound came out. Tango knew the feeling that he suspected filled Impulse’s throat—arid and scorched, so dry that you could barely breathe. And the pulsing static that was coursing through his veins, stabbing into his muscles and immobilizing him. Tango had to fight his own mind to crawl back into reality.

They paused for a second to let the image sink in. “It’ll be a pleasure to see you again, Tango.”

The video ended.

A thin beam of moonlight shone through the blinds on Tango’s window. He strode through his lair, furiously tapping at the screen on his wrist, taking half a glance at the still nonfunctioning elevator before descending the stairs. 

A voice pulled him out of his head. “Tango.” Jimmy was standing in front of the door, his wings flared out slightly. “Don’t do this. I already told you not to do this alone.”

Tango let his hands drop as his eyes met Jimmy’s. His stance was weary but his reply was firm. “I’m not leaving him there.”

“I’m not telling you to leave him, I’m telling you to take me with.”

Tango gave a faint, sad smile, but it quickly flashed into a sneer. “You have no idea what you just asked me to do. You don’t know how hurt you could get.”

“Yeah, uh, about that,” Jimmy paused. “I talked to Wraith about it.”

“You talked to Etho?”

Etho was breathing hard, crouched low, his hands over his face. Tango dropped to his knees beside him, grabbed his shoulders and pulled him up, desperate to see that he was at least alive. Etho returned Tango’s wide-eyed stare with solid black, glossy eyes. Shimmering black tear streaks coated his face and hands. A drop fell from one of Etho’s fingers and landed on Tango’s pants, black bleeding into the red. 

Tango pulled himself back into the present. “If you talked to Etho, you know why you can’t go.”

Confusion flashed through Jimmy’s eyes. “What?”

Tango paused, studying Jimmy’s expression for a second. “He didn’t tell you.”

“Didn’t tell me what?”

“Nothing. Doesn’t matter.” Tango backtracked. “I’m not letting you come with me.”

Jimmy stepped forward, dismissing whatever confusion he had. “Tango, stop. You can’t do this alone, you’ll get hurt,” He pleaded.

“I’ll be fine, you won’t.”

“And why’s that?” “Whatever Etho told you, that’s not the full picture. You don’t know this guy.” Tango met Jimmy’s eyes. “They will kill you.”

“That’s ok-“

“No!” A wave of red surged through Tango’s eyes. “Jimmy, you don’t understand. If you go in there, you will die.”

Etho’s skin was almost freezing, prickling as it seemed to suck the heat out of Tango’s hands. He was curled limply on the ground until Tango pulled him in, wrapping his arms around him. Black veins crawled their way across Etho’s muscle, shimmering under his skin. Tango’s own chest was still as he frantically watched, unmoving, for the rise and fall of Etho’s. He waited to hear the beat of his heart. To feel the warmth return to his body. 

“And I won’t let that happen.” Tango strode forward. His face was set, though not quite emotionless. He looked up at Jimmy. “I’m doing this because I care about you.” 

Tango reached out to either side of Jimmy, fire blooming in his palms, then grabbed onto his golden yellow wings. The metal frame dissolved under Tango’s touch, warping and deforming the careful shapes Tango had worked so hard to perfect. The heat spread further and further through the mechanisms, crushing all of the miniscule gears and circuits into a mess of molten metal. The liquified feathers seemed to bleed over the rest of the wings, leaving trails of red hot copper in their wake. Tango’s hands cut gashes through the intricate machines, melting into golden slag on the ground. Jimmy found himself almost petrified, unable to stop him.

Tango stepped away, his hands still glowing bright orange. “Sorry.” He closed his fists, smothering the flames licking his palms. The door slid shut behind him.

- the wither’s powers like poison a person if they use their powers. jimmy’s power is on like all of the time so yeah he’d just straight up die after like 20 mins. tango can turn his power on and off kind of, its always there a little bit but him not using it kinda like dampens it. tango also is one of few superpowers who don’t rely on their powers, so the wither has much less of an effect on him

- ethos power: some kind of enhanced empathy. he can feel everyone else’s emotions and can tell when they’re lying. also, his emotions can be felt by others if they’re strong enough, which is why hes so guarded all the time. his power is like jimmy’s where it’s on all the time in the background

- some background of the thing with etho and tango: i headcannon that when they were younger, etho and tango were aspiring vigilantes and were like goofing off or something and stumbled into the wither’s hideout. etho almost died but tango was able to drag him out. etho’s eyes are now permantly solid black and there are black veins under his skin. that situation is partly why he’s a crime lord now

HELLO I wrote a supervillain!Tango + superhero!Jimmy AU fic for the @mcytblraufest​​ where Tango is essentially Dr. Doofenshmirtz....so Jimmy is lowkey Perry the Platypus lol

Shockingly, it's not a Crack AU, but I have been describing it to everyone as “not a Phineas and Ferb AU...but it’s not NOT a Phineas and Ferb AU?” LOL This is the longest thing I have ever written (the initial estimate was 11k..let’s just say it’s not that anymore) It's a fic full of silly fun times, so please check it out!

This was beta’d by @vesperaink (fun fact: the idea of the AU was initially created for her birthday, so it wouldn’t exist in more ways than one if not for her!)

As the supervillain Dr. Blaze, Tango has a penchant for oddly named "-ificators" and stylistic flair. His goals include trying to take over the city, shaming superheroes for their basic costume designs, and then sending said heroes home with better equipment that actually matches their aesthetic because clearly, if he wants a cool fight scene to happen, he's got to do everything around here himself.

For some reason, not many people think he’s evil. His one comfort though is that his nemesis, the superhero Canary, does and has made it his personal mission to bring down Dr. Blaze.

But when Canary suddenly goes missing, his superhero partner, Parrot, is convinced that Tango is at fault. Seeing as this is not true at all (kidnapping is so gauche), Tango is offended that someone is trying to steal his nemesis right from under his nose. If Tango wants to get his nemesis back, he'll have to work together with Parrot to find and rescue Canary from whatever danger he's got himself into this time.

After all, what's a supervillain without a nemesis?

AIPT: A ‘what if’ I’d also love to see! Now, how did the opportunity to write this Magneto mini-series come about? J.M.: Editor Mark Basso called me up and asked me if I was interested. I said yes. It was as easy as that! When Todd Nauck was added to the equation, I knew I’d made the right decision. Todd’s work on this series has been amazing. Every page is better than the one before. Just spectacular stuff. AIPT: Todd’s great! (And a friend of X-Men Monday!) For readers who are only now hearing about this mini-series, what’s your elevator pitch? J.M.: I don’t know if I can boil it down to an elevator pitch! What fascinates me about Magneto is that he’s a mass of contradictions. If you look at those early stories, he’s as one-dimensional a villain as you could possibly find. An arrogant, megalomaniacal, mustache-twirling bad guy with zero redeeming qualities. But as the years progressed, writers — especially Chris Claremont — gave us a much more nuanced, multi-layered portrayal of the character. A man filled with seemingly infinite contradictions. He may be the single most conflicted, multi-layered character in the entire Marvel Universe. As a writer who’s always specialized in getting deep inside characters’ heads, those conflicts and layers fascinate me. And, since I’m such a fan of those early stories, I’m equally fascinated by the disconnect between the (apparently) one-dimensional “evil mutant” introduced in X-Men #1 and the man he evolved into. Was that truly who Magneto was back then… or was his “villain” persona part of some larger plan? Our story will allow us to go back and look at some of the events from the Jack Kirby/Stan Lee-Roy Thomas/Werner Roth eras and view them through a very different lens. And, of course, we pick up our story at a time when Magneto has just taken over as headmaster of Xavier’s school, charged with guiding the New Mutants. The “evil mutant” has now taken on the vision, and the burden, of the man who was once his fiercest enemy. Talk about duality and conflict! The story potential is endless. AIPT: Living the dream! X-Fans Archit and Melanie both were wondering if this mini-series at all explores Magneto’s relationship with his wife Magda and daughter Anya. J.M.: Magda and Anya are part of this story… but not in the way you might expect. And that’s all I can say. This week's eXclusive images are unlettered pages from Magneto #1.

tbh not really, i'm a very small and slow artist with too many grand projects but i love the validation and dreamily think about being some kind of tumblr famous someday. i've had some outliers this year (like aufest :3) but posting still feels a bit like throwing darts at the stars. Mostly tho, I'm very glad for what i do get. and as much as I'd love to be the kind of artist whose art people go feral over, i can see why most of my posted work isn't that yet

So no i'm not, in like a 'I wanna get better at art' kinda way y'know? i'll keep making art in my tiny corner of the internet bc like what am i gonna do, not share the brainrot? i would Simply Explode if i didnt
