There’s been a lot of complaints about the release of the new CG animated Lion King Prequel. And while I share the same complaints of many, I have seen that many many others have gotten confused between what’s fan lore and what’s canon to the original 94 film.
Ahadi, Uru, and Taka are names from the chapter book series the fandom affectionately calls TLK6NA(It’s full name: The Lion King Six New Adventures). TLK6NA was published with permission and was a collaboration between authors. Mohatu is a name from a picture book Titled The Brightest Star, published in autumn of 94. Unfortunately, I do not have any confirmation whether Brightest Star was published with permission or was made by Disney studios. But it is considered far more canon than 6NA on account of lack of conflict between the films.
None of these names or characters have interacted canonically. What you might think is canon might actually be fan lore, established by popular big name fan artists and their fan comics.
I’m also seeing people are still believing the controversial theory that Disney stole the story of a lion being king and would kindly like to point y’all to the YourMovieSucks breakdown video. It’s a great analysis that finally puts this argument to bed

I don't even think Disney can use the name, Taka. It wasn't under their direct publication copyright. TLK6NA was a glorified published fanfic with Disney's permission and name slapped on it. Here's hoping that they change the name over time, because man, I can just hear the Kopa worshippers shouting gleefully about it rn.

"I DON'T NEED YOUR STUPID FAT HEAD FOLLOWING ME EVERYWHERE I GO. I'M BIG NOW" "You really think I WANT to be cub sitting YOU? I could be out hunting with mother right now... but NOoooOOOO. I'm STUCK here watching my little brother... Quit baring your teeth and puffing up at me like that. You look like a tiny hyena for great kings sake..."

Cub Stories
"Mufasa... HEY... Psst. MUFASA. Wake up!" Mufasa opened one sleepy eye "What do you want at this hour?" Taka shyly looked at the ground and mumbled "I'm thirsty... and I need you to come with me to the watering hole..." Mufasa closed his barely opened eye and rolled over. "Surely you're old enough to go to the watering hole alone, Taka." "Im scared.." "Get mother to take you." "She's out hunting... and... Uh dad... well you kno-" Mufasa interrupted him with a loud mix of a yawn and roar "What are you afraid of little brother?" Taka again stared at the floor "Sarafina told me that there's a crocodile at the watering hole who loves the taste of cubs... especially pridelanders." Mufasa let out a little chuckle. "Oh did she now? Well, how about this, I will go with you and introduce you to that old croc who "loves the taste of cubs." Taka took a step back in surprise, a look of terror on his face. "WHAT?" "I've known Mamba since I was a cub, he has more of a taste for Zebra than for scrawny cubs." Mufasa chortled The two made their way down to the watering hole, Taka riding on his big brothers head. "Are you sure this is safe? What if he's really hungry and eats both of us!" Mufasa sighed "I assure you there is nothing to worry about little brother. Look. MAMBA! How are you this morning my old friend?" Taka hugged his brothers neck tightly as the giant lizard swam over to the waters edge. Characters © Disney

"Well forgive me for not leaping for joy.  Bad back, you know...." Just a little story snippet that had been living rent-free in my brain. I've always imagined Scar to be somewhat of a mama's boy.   Remember to sit up straight! Do NOT copy, trace, recolor, repost or otherwise redistribute this image without my written permission. Scar is ©Walt Disney Studios, Inc.

So I got a new tablet for Christmas :D Just trying it out on my PC for the first time and WOW. What a difference. Still getting used to it, but I can ink so much faster and confidently now! Drawing on the screen just feels so much more natural, obviously. Used the picture below as reference and inspiration!
Anyway, I always seem to draw Mufasa and Taka on their good days, but what about the bad days? Here is the two of them having an argument, I haven’t decided what the fight is about yet, but look at the fur sticking up on Taka! I’m sure he had a little venom spewing from his mouth here.

Watch the speed art here ---> youtu.be/8V3CkSC3jtE “That night he walked to the edge of pride rock and sat alone. The rain was the only sound breaking the silence. For the first time in awhile, he wept. She was the only one he trusted. His best friend, and his lover had betrayed that trust. Sitting in silence he tried to untangle the web of emotions and thoughts that wrapped around his heart. Love, hate, sorrow and embarrassment seemed to form a new emotion words couldn’t describe. After that night, Ahadi changed. He was no longer the “bright sun” of these lands. There was a noticeable weight he carried inside that would grow over time. He was quick to anger and always seemed agitated at the smallest inconvenience. He was rough around the edges, and at times, a cruel king. But underneath that muscular rugged exterior of a beast was a worn down, tired, defeated and heartbroken soul. Ahadi will forever be known as “The King of Sorrow”.

I have a question: Is TLK6NA really just a book series published with Disney's permission, or is it published by Disney itself?
It is legit published fanfiction, yes.

If TLK6NA never was canon in the first place, what about the comics? (Simba's New Brother, The Orphan Birds, Trouble In Paradise, etc.) Who published them? Disney? Are they really semi-canon, or not at all?
I’m not saying TLK6NA isn’t canon to the franchise as a whole. But it falls under semi-canon to the franchise. The difference between TLK6NA and the comics are that the comics were published by Disney and written and illustrated by in-house artists and authors under contract. Whereas 6NA is published fanfiction. It’s all still semi-canon.

This is my Kopa. I decided to be part of the “Let’s just use his canon design” crowd just to see how original I could make him without making him a completely different cub. Anyway I don’t really use Kopa because he causes so many plot holes that even Kion laughs at him with his magic roar. Kopa is evil in my verse simply because there’s too many goody two shoes Kopas who come out of the blue to marry Vitani and steal Kiaras throne. I recently tho had an idea about this character I’m tempted to start exploring, being he’s not the son of Simba and Nala but someone else in the royal pride. Who, idk, but he’s born during Scars reign a few weeks before Kovu, Vitani and Zuri. He’s basically hand chosen by Sarabi to be THEIR Kovu. He’s gonna grow up to fight Scar one day and rule the PrideLands. Wellllll… until Simba shows up and Kopa loses his throne rofl so he salty and ironically turns into what the PrideLands hadn’t wanted to be. Another tyrant in the making. Idk.
I was hoping someone would come along and make a not TLK6NA Kopa! I like the idea!

So, I'm a bit new to all this. Who is Kopa?? Your tag doesn't make it entirely clear.
Kopa is this fan character that got published by an over seas company. He’s only semi-canon to the movie and has never been used in Disney media outside of overseas german story books. The combination of “Zira killed Kopa” and kati-kopa’s comics called Hidden Stories has the newbie fans treating him like Lion Jesus. These make for a perfect storm of why people pissed and moaned about The Lion Guard being started, disregarding the fact that 1) Kopa is only ever found in book media( “Fight for the throne”, “A new friend”, and what fans call TLK6NA(six new adventures) the original chapter books that he first appeared in) and 2) He’s not exactly canon to the films. None of the cubs seen in over seas comics are used in Disney media except for once in their comics or books.
You can read more about him here on Panther85′s deviation. It’s more reliable than the TLK wikia article. She’s been trying to get information on Kopa so confused folks like you can read up on him: http://panther85.deviantart.com/art/Who-is-Kopa-version-2-621746223
