I just realized I haven’t shared this here yet, but I’m trying to raise money to help for recovery after hip surgery I’m going to be having soon!

I have the unfortunate bad luck of having a Labral Tear in my right hip joint that needs to be repaired with surgery. Additionally there are some bone impingements that need to be shaved down to prevent any further damage to the tendons and ligaments. This has been causing me severe pain for several years and I’m very eager to get it done, however, since I work freelance I don’t get any kind of paid time off. So paying for bills and rent and food will be entirely on my shoulders during the recovery period, which will be at least a couple months. 

I’m going to still try and draw during that time, but any extra help that allows me to be able to rest and heal will be so greatly appreciated.

surgery update.

i’ve woken up in considerable pin.

i’ve noticed the incision inside my belly button appears to have split open slightly, and there’s a white like liquid on it. it’s weeping a little and belly button is bright red.

i’m not sure if this is to be expected or not. has anyone else ever had this surgery and this issue?

I saw your post on top surgery and saw you mention loads of meds. I can’t swallow pills do you know if there’s the possibility to get liquid meds?

I have/had a fear of swallowing meds as well. It depends on the meds prescribed by the doctor so this would be something to discuss with your surgeon and PCP at your consult or the appointment for your pre-surgery physical. Depends on who will be prescribing your medication.

My experience was that most of the pills were very tiny, smaller than the diameter of the top eraser on a pencil (Smaller than birth control pills as well), tinier than I expected. I had a capsule that I was able to open up and sprinkle in apple sauce. Never open a capsule like this though without talking to the Dr first. This can really goof up some time release pills/medications and what not, as well as not all pills being cooperative with all substances for example some antibiotics and yogurt. The largest pill I had were my painkillers and I was able to get a pill cutter to cut them in quarters to make them tiny and swallowable. Again, be sure to consult the prescribing doctor before doing this. Not all pills are safe to cut up, again time release coatings, etc.

A trick I have done is put the tiny pill in a bit of peanut butter which I feel no need to chew, then I filled the rest of the spoon with applesauce or yogurt. This allowed me to swallow the pill with no issue.

The big thing I noticed overall is the "I am afraid to swallow pills" or "I can't swallow pills." will actually make it so you can't. Just like a lot of other things we can easily make ourselves believe something is true whether it is or not. The more we fixate on it and worry about it the more it makes us anxious and the more true it becomes. I actually spent some time talking to my therapist about the issue to see why I believed that I couldn't even though I know for a fact that I do swallow things routinely much larger than the pills I would be taking. Very few people chew the 50-100+ times it takes to completely puree food before swallowing while we are eating day to day.

This may sound really odd but practice. Get some mini chocolate chips or M&Ms or whatever, if you can eat them, and teach yourself to swallow those. Most pills will be smaller than these items. Yes, you can teach yourself to get past the fear of swallowing tiny items. This was one of the things I did with the peanut butter trick I talked about above. Trained myself to do it with a mini chocolate chip in it before surgery and needing to do it with pills.

Please bear with me as I've never had to make a post like this before.

My best friend is in need of serious financial aid in regards to her gorgeous kitty, Sasha. The whole story can be found on the GoFundMe, but I'll give you a short summary:

Upon a visit to the vet to get what they thought was an injury looked at, they were told it was actually bone cancer. Injuries can sometimes "aggravate" cancers like this, but at the same time, it might be the reason why they caught it when they did, as she wasn't showing any symptoms before this injury.

Due to the insane medical prices in the US, this really is a case of if they can't get the amputation paid for, then they will have to strongly consider putting Sasha down which is devastating in itself but especially when they've had her since she was a kitten & she's 14 now! Funds will either go towards getting the amputation sorted as well as all the aftercare for that, or just to keep her as comfortable as possible for her final weeks with us. It's really sad that any life on Earth can be cut short all because of lack of funds.

Of course, if you're reading this and have no means to help financially then that's okay! But please consider reblogging & sharing around so hopefully we can find some people who are willing/able to help with this.

I'm aware there are A LOT of fake posts for GoFundMe's, especially regarding cats and animals. I'm sure once my friend has printed medical bills she'll be happy to post them on the GoFundMe page as well. But again, I understand the weariness regarding these posts so I totally understand if people aren't comfortable donating, but at this point, she has no choice but to ask for help with this, so please consider reblogging at least!

20s vs 30s
