Amy Rose thinks that she's in a love triangle with Sonic and Shadow, when Sonic has been going steady with Shadow for years and has never had the slightest interest in Amy. In order to try to make Sonic jealous, Amy starts dating Surge the Tenrec, unaware that Surge is even less informed about Sonic's romantic situation and is also dating Amy solely to try to make Sonic jealous. Sonic is just glad that he doesn't have to worry about having Amy breathing down his neck anymore. Kitsunami gets suspicious of Surge's enthusiasm for the supposedly-fake relationship, and attempts to murder Amy; his repeated failures, which are largely unnoticed by Amy or Surge, result in a series of wacky misunderstandings which culminate him being best buddies with Silver, who genuinely is trying to be friendly with him. Whisper and Tangle have just been together perfectly happily together, independently of all this.

I wish they wouldn't introduce an annoying Mary Sue like Surge, her character would be fixed if Shadow beat her up. I'm sick of the IDW comics forcing in all these female characters

I personally don't mind more female characters, though I do think there should be a more level playing field.

I think the word "Mary Sue" is a little strong, as characters like Whisper has been getting the shit beat out of her.

I think the better term is that it's a SONIC character. Sonic characters win, they face difficulties, but they win.

If I was writing Surge's arc, I would actually get a match up between Surge and Shadow. I like Surge, I enjoy her. I like her backstory, I like her character. But I don't like her as a person.

She is a coward. She is an asshole. She is bossy. She puts her problems on others that have ACTUALLY nothing to do with her trauma, but that's her character.

She's angry, and vengeful, but the person that deserves that vengeance is dead. So she takes out her anger on other people.

Is that a good thing? No, and I don't think the writers think it's a good thing.

I think a character like Shadow is perfect to slap her around. As of anyone, Shadow would understand her. If anything, he has faced worse things then her. His "Kit" died. He has no one that can hug him and tell him their there for him. But Surge does. And I think Shadow is the only and perfect character to (physically and mentally) beat that into her head.
