FFXIV Write 2023 Prompt #25: Call it a Day

Stix was half dozing. Chai had given up on even half dozing, the quiet miqo’te curled up in a ball on the entryway couch, feet carefully placed just so to keep his shoes off of it, ears flicking softly as he chased a dream. Somewhere in the kitchen he expected Zayaa and Kai were either sipping tea or, more likely, quietly reading a book. The whole of the Brew had a sort of warm, sugar and sleep laden feel to it, like a heavy blanket and a good hot drink.

While not exactly uncommon, an early snowstorm had dumped several ilms of powder on Ishgard. It would take much of the afternoon to dig the city out, and frankly most of the city seemed disinclined to do so. Which was why the bell above the shop jingling in that soft little way it did startled him. The half asleep didn’t help, of course, but it was more that he hadn’t expected anyone on the street. A slow smile spread across his face, as unstoppable as the snow itself, as the visitor unwrapped and familiar blue hair shook out from under layers of clothing. “Slow?” “Yeah. I’m thinking of calling it a day. No one without good reason is out in this mess.” His reward, one soft smile and the slow reach of a hand for his. “I’m glad I’ve a good reason then.” Stix reached over, flicking the open sign to closed and locking the door. He waited as Isa carefully pulled a blanket over the sleeping miqo’te before lacing their hands back together. “So am I.”
