⚕️ Turn Illness into a Weapon ⚕️

"Among the surviving records of SPK’s (Sozialistisches Patientenkollektiv or Socialist Patients' Collective) actions and ideologies is a manifesto written by its members called Aus Der Krankheit Eine Waffe Machen (often translated as To Make an Army out of Illness, or Turn Illness into a Weapon). This 1972 text is part user manual, part oral history, part sardonic critique of Cold War capitalism. Unlike other self-organized patient groups and their counterparts in the anti-psychiatry movement, SPK uniquely combined Marxist political theory, social science analysis, and what they termed 'therapeutic praxis' to create an improvised, in-patient community with the express collectivist goal of researching the connections between capitalism, madness, eugenics, and the individuation of illness under political economies of work and care."¹

Huh sad. Why do they want to pretend to be anti-psych, that doesn't make you more popular or anything. That's like, Our Thing, as Mad people / abolitionists / craXy motherfuckers who would have been in the Sozialistisches Patientenkollektiv if given the chance, it belongs to us, and it didn't score us social Points to identify that way. It got us smeared and framed as being fucking Scientologists, and it got actual Scientologists trying to infiltrate our groups and we had to curbstomp them.

Szenische Lesung "KRANKE REDEN" 

Das Stück, das aus der Historie radikaler Texte der Anti-Psychiatrie-Bewegung hervorgeht, ist eine Umkehrung des üblichen Machtverhältnisses zwischen Psychiatern und ihren Patienten. Hier sind es die Patienten, die die Psychologie ihrer Psychiater analysieren und ein dunkles und ethnologisch noch wenig erforschtes Gebiet beleuchten. 

Verschiedene Künstler und Schriftsteller, die die Psychiatrie erfahren haben, teilen ihre persönlichen Fazits über ihre Psychiater mit und drücken gleichzeitig ihre politischen Forderungen und Bedenken gegenüber der Gesellschaft als Ganze aus. 

Mit Referenzen zu Schriften über Psychiater von u. A. Aby Warburg, Dietmar Kamper, Otto E. Rössler, Antonin Artaud, das Sozialistische Patientenkollektiv, Jean-Paul Sartre, Rainald Götz, Ernst Herbeck, Kate Millett, Rolf Dieter Brinkmann, Richard Sennett, Jürgen Habermas, Eva Illouz und Luise Boege, ist der Text eine Mischung aus anonymen Patienten-Aussagen sowie essayistischen und fiktiven Erzählungen.

Meine Psychiaterin und ich teilten keinen Blick. Sie wirkte wie eine nicht angeknipste Glühbirne. Auskennerisch, ohne etwas verstanden zu haben. Sie sagte immer wieder, „wie Sie verstehen, wie Sie sicherlich verstehen können“. Sie war total professionell deformiert. Irgendwie nur halb geboren.“
