Synopsis
In the 9th century, Emma of Barcelona (c. 880-942), a 17-year-old girl, is named abbess in order to repopulate and Christianize border territories in 897. Upon arriving at the abbey, she will have to overcome the mistrust aroused by a woman determined to fulfill her mission, which will lead her to confront nobles, like her brother Count Guifré II Borrel of Barcelona (874-911), peasants and the nuns themselves. Despite everything, Emma will show that it is possible to challenge established power structures. Although she will pay a high price to get it...
Emma is willing to carry out the commission of her deceased noble father, Count Guifré I of Barcelona, Guifré el Pilós (840-897), founder of the House of Barcelona: convert the abbey that he founded in 885, the Monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses, for which she is now responsible into the engine of change and transformation of a society that comes down. She must help with all her resources to help the lands that are emptied due to hunger caused by border wars, which in turn are a consequence of the ambitions of the feudal lords of the area.
Emma acquired small or large properties with which the monastery came to have a territory equivalent to that of a county. Her sovereignty was also similar to that of a countess: by concession from her father, her domains were exempt from all interference from the neighboring counts, whom she knew how to oppose with resistance.
On cinemas: Friday 22 March
Filming began in January 2023 at the Loarre Castle, and included scenes filmed at the Turó de la Seu Vella, until concluding at the end of February 2023.

Common ceramic pieces from the Roman Period from the first four centuries of our era. These are not beautiful art pieces - these are mundane utensils, used by common people that lived in the I, II, III and IV centuries, when the west of Iberia was still part of the mighty Roman Empire. And these are not radically different from any other ceramic utensil we could buy today.
These archeological findings were discovered in the necropolis of the roman villa of Laje do Ouro (Crato Municipality); nowadays, they are in exposition in the Municipal Museum of Crato.

wanted to explore more of the descendants in Retrato de un Siglo so here's some Joaquin expression doodles
mini dump about my thoughts about his design below~
When designing Joaquin, I wanted him to be the complete opposite of his ancestor, Ignacio, unlike with Lia (who is meant to be a mix of both her own). Only the face shape, nose, and the signature smirk were inherited from him.
His hair is styled more modern and in with the current era. He's freely expressive and flamboyant, hosting a certain charm and endearment to visitors at the gallery. His round eyes indicate his innocence, from both the sins of his forefather, and the consequences it brought.

Frist off as to give some context, an Ina11 artist I really like drew something with RedoMata long ago, and leaving aside how beautiful the piece is (Please check it out), something clicked to me.
...Sometimes, I think its easy for me to forget how oddly enough, Red Matador has a HUGE tie-in with nobility/the spanish royalty when it comes to motifs. Like, even to the point it has the literal crown on its emblem; a huge difference when comparing it to more "royal" ones like Knights of Queen (Who have a sword) and Rose Griffon (Also swords). Huh.
Tumblr media
And also talking about Champ 2010, the special IE3 Ogre team, the team gets a slight upgrade, with its upper half being reminiscent of the typical castle towers.
Tumblr media
Though being sincere, I genuinely cannot think of a proper connection with this team and the spanish crown outside of this little easter egg. Even when removing my own headcanons of their backgrounds, I genuinely cannot see none of them being related to the higher classes. They all look like normal country/city boys to me 😭
...Well, there is one, kind of. Querardo (DUH). He has always given this aura of being some sort of ruler, something that both canon and fanon(*) do agree with. Plus, he does seem to have some sort of... Nobility? Not sure how to express it. But I could picture him sleeping on a fancy ass mansion's bed like on the fanart shared before (?
(Also, lions are the most associated animal with kings and royalty.)
Still, I'm not fully sure. I really prefer what the spanish profile proposed of him being raised in a bull farm, making him also be a country boy. Afaik, there are no bull farms owned or with ties to the royals, aren't they...? I know that the current spanish king has went to spectate some bullfights, but I'm yet to know the full picture.
Maybe there's a way to tie both ideas in, maybe there's not. I'll keep this wordvomit here just in case. Personally, in my own story.... I'd rather keep the spanish royals ten miles away from having any actual relevance.
----
(With fanon, I refer to this fic in which Querardo is adressed as a king jokingly by Joan and other characters, even with him getting nicknamed Rey Querardo / King Querardo).

hold on what was the quijote fanfic that pissed cervantes into reviving don quijote !!
ok so like big disclaimer up front that i am not a siglo de oro Guy so i might mix up a few facts here BUT
basically what we now call the first part of the quijote was published in 1605 as a stand-alone work and was a huge hit, and after its publication it apparently inspired several unauthorized sequels, the most famous and important one being the Segundo tomo del ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha, written under the pseudonym "Alonso Fernández de Avellaneda" (real identity still unknown), which was the most important of the bunch on account of being the most popular (iirc) and also Specifically Pissing Off Cervantes
and we know that cervantes was pissed about it (and that it's likely a major reason that a sequel exists at all, or at least that it was published when it was) because there's a ton of references to it in the second part of the quijote, starting with literally the first line of the prologue! even the title page of the second part makes indirect reference to it, having a) a slightly different title to part one (specifically calling the title character the "ingenioso caballero" rather than an "ingenioso hidalgo" like he did in the title of the first book, because "ingenioso hidalgo" got used by avellaneda) and b) a sort of underhanded jab in the by-line, attributing to "Miguel de Cervantes de Saavedra, autor de su primera parte" (author of the first part) just to make it absolutely clear to everyone that this is the OFFICIAL sequel
it is also a major plot point in part 2 that someone is out there telling false stories about don quijote and the character himself goes out of his way to correct this
anyway it's all extremely petty & i love that that's at least a major contributing factor to there being a quijote part 2, esp since cervantes literally dies like 5 months or something after part 2 gets published

Now that I'm talking about DreamWorks characters and Spanish accents, do you know about whom I'm still pissed that they didn't have historical or at least regional-accurate accents (in the Spanish dubs)?
