this little quest chain was one of my favorites in ew because of the perspective it gave into the ancients, a very different one from what little we get from emet and hermes. there’s pretty ample proof that their society was not in any way perfect and was actually really deeply flawed to the core, but this is a look at people, individuals, and ones outside of the main bunch we talk to
put in a read more to spare your dashes
they go to speed up the aether dispersal of some creations (animals) that were killed and they call the deaths distressing and want to find a way to pay respects to the fallen and bring peace to their souls. at the wol’s suggestion they gather flowers for the dead. and they say what amounts to a prayer over the bodies. it’s so very very different from how hermes believes everyone feels and how hythlodaeus spoke of ‘returning to the star’ being beautiful (though even hythlodaeus said a brief prayer for the first boss in ktisis hyberboreia)
and yes, they still talk about life and death in terms of ‘purpose’ and this is no way refutes the callousness towards other lives we’ve seen some of the ancients display in elpis, but my personal take is that it shows that some of them at least understood on some level that there were important things missing in their culture that they needed. even if they didn’t fully grasp why, they were searching for these missing pieces. in this case, a way to process grief and acknowledge the worth of a life, even a non-human life. and they also actively ask for the new ideas the wol presents and talk about incorporating them into their lives and duties
there’s also a ton of little side quests in elpis that involve one person asking you to find or check on another person, or to carry a message to them. there’s so many people who care about each other and are just absolutely godawful at expressing it in person and need the poor wol to act as an intermediary (this happens in present day as well but it was just every 5 seconds in elpis)
there’s one striking one where one person asks you to bring a second person a message about how that second person’s concept was approved and succeeding (I forget the exact details) in the hopes that it would dissuade them from returning to the star. it didn’t dissuade them and the first person accepted that pretty calmly, but the thought was there. there was this hope that they could keep someone they cared about around longer even if the argument they tried to use to persuade them came back to that grim ideology about ‘purpose’. they lacked the framework to think about it another way, but they still tried
it’s definitely a stark contrast from the shade amaurotines we saw in shb (assuming for the sake of argument that they were accurate depictions and not biased by emet which is a big assumption), especially the ones who turned the topic of ‘should we save the lives of others on the planet or just focus on ourselves’ into a casual debate topic as a pastime. there are really terrible ways of thinking about the world that have been ingrained into the population presumably from birth. that’s not something that can easily be changed. but it could be changed. the potential was there
at a societal level the ancient world was terrible in so many ways, and ultimately doomed if it couldn’t change, but at an individual level the people had so much potential and at least some of them were trying their best to make sense of the things their society denied them and adapt their lives
my personal takeaway from all this (which is just a headcanon aka an opinion and i’m not trying to sell as canon), was that if their society could have been changed then the ancients had the potential to have produced people who could have faced meteion. i’m leaving aside the questions of the timeframe and zodiark tempering everyone because that’s not my point. my point is that the ancients weren’t inherently unable to be who was needed to save their world. the density of their aether making them unable to interact with dynamis is highly symbolic of the flaws of their society, of course, but that shouldn’t have stopped them from talking to meteion, from showing compassion and understanding and hope in the face of despair
i’m not trying to take any jabs about any characters’ decisions in the story because the actual situation they were in was extremely complicated (like hey zodiark tempering people!) and that would also miss my point. mostly i’m just saying this makes the fate of their people even more depressing. they were an entire race of people who had all the potential that the sundered humans do despite being stuck in a shit society that happened to be shit in the exact way that made dealing with meteion and the final days a seemingly insurmountable task. their near-immortality and creation powers made it even harder for them to really understand the problem, but not impossible. they had the raw potential and lacked the tools to use it to save themselves. it’s just really damned sad

So I’ve gotten back into reading TGH and reached chapter uh… I’ll put that later. Anyway here’s the summary—
“They go to Stedding Tsofu to find a Waygate. Waygate is firmly blocked by Machin Shin. Their journey seems for naught. But at least we get more Loial lore, and learn Ogier women just arrange the marriages and tell the men who they are marrying. Mat -full cringe failboy he sometimes(often) is- says human men would never let a woman boss them around like that. Rand mutters about Mat being wrong. Everyone else presumable at least side eyes him. Because he is wrong. Verin is right there telling everyone what to do. Rand remembers the woman’s council bacually betrothing him to Egwene before he knew what was happening. Fun times. They realize they have to use a portal stone to get to Fain. The Ogier happily show them the portal stone nearby -anything is better then the Ways. The boys keep insisting they are not ta’veren or Dragons or Aiel anything like that. Everyone nods and then ignores that and talk about them being ta’veren and how they’ve basically got no choice but to live in their wake. Rand is reminded again he can in fact channel, in fact doing so with little resistance after being asked -possibly s first? He is also unnerved meeting several Aiel women. Because they tried to kill them and also well… damn does he look like them. Aka “The ever increasing eroding of Rand denial copium receives several serious blows in a few days.”
I’m currently mid Ch 37 “What Might Be”, portal stone icon I believe.
Oh! And just for fine to cover it… Also Fain delivered that Horn, Turok was like “you’re probable lies amuse me for now. Perhaps I will give you to the Empress. Let me describe the terribleness of the royal court. Nvm you’re way too eager about that.” And Fain is just internally grinning and steepling his fingers like “ah ha. Yes give me more information. Give me more access to your leaders. You play right into the plans I have made and am making right now. And will make in the future.” Hilarious.
also…
I’ve decided that Hurin is a lil bit of a dipshit simp. Yes he has sniffing powers. And a wife. And children. But he’s a Gilear if you will. Also probably brain mushed by ta’veren a bit. Selene didn’t show up! (Good) Oh and how deeply I am not looking forward to the parts of Mat featuring “a tale of his sad little misogyny even if it often makes him look foolish. Still a bit too cringe” -at least that’s my fear. We shall see.

this game gave me all the illness
Hundreds of thoughts abt the last two chapters of yakuza 0 over here you've been warned I'm going full essay post bc I just can't fit everything only in 30 tags:
I've just wanted to stress just how good I think this game is, genuinely. There are few things that irked me in the end but they are so irrelevant I can't mind all that much. The dialogue in this game is just wonderful, script goes out there a lot but the serious/emotional scenes just felt all so real to me. I feel like it's so hard doing real dialogue without it sounding predictable but they did it. Maybe it's because the story itself isn't all that predictable but just UGH WONDERFUL. so good. Anyway to story bits.
just to start where I left I have to say. proof of love? the damn chapter of all time. if you told me we would be here
Tumblr media
when I first started play this game I would be very skeptical but I really loved the directiong they took with him. and specially with her. I just loved makoto at first sight and I hoped so bad she would continue to be a plot point from there on and to have her face all of dojima clan head on and survive is just. so damn cool. she is my most special girl.
and it makes her so realistic too to that final scene before credits. the way she stands up to those guys and everything about her development is just really perfect and insanely well done for like a side character, specially when we have so many of them in this game. she is wonderful. I adore her to bits.
plus as a side-story for majima slowly breaking away from that cold facade from the beginning is just REALLY nice. he starts this chapter makind expressions he has never once done before and ends like
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
CAN YOU HEAR ME? they are my everything. going from makoto saying "I'm sorry, I can't do anything for myself" right when majima had that talk with seda about not doing things by himself. I love this plot point of him and kiryu being so damn powerful but how shaping them for something greater they needed others. not in a way that they lack something but in such there-are-thing-not-even-you-can-scape kind of way. this brings me to THIS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BECAUSE THEY MAKE ME SO UNWELL. I feel sick. every time I have favorites I expect the worst to happen to them (because it always happens lol) but having nishiki and makoto being pillars for kiryu's and majima's resolve until the very end is SUCH a treat.
one moment you think they are all dying and the other you get this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it changes you for life I guess.
I should also add how much I love lao gui as majima's last boss for this game vs kiryu and shibusawa. they really delivered perfectly the whole "this is what you can become if you follow through with it" and it just makes. sense. and makes me stupid ig. I like them a normal amount and also I like how nishiki and makoto (even not there) are the ones that remind them of who they want to become. it's different from where they are now but it's different from the person lying under them as well and I just feel SO NORMAL about that.
for the ending I gotta say, majima's left a bad taste in my mouth at first, maybe because I just hated sagawa so bad lmao but I think I'm coming around it a lot more the more I think of it. and welp ig sagawa is dead so I that's a good way as any to convince me.
after makoto was gone I kind expected him to never talk with her again, but just to add, it feels better than I overall was hoping. I thought she would either die or move away from japan and they would never see it other again. Don't get me wrong I have no expectations for her to show up again, but just by her being there, I feel like it gives him a lot of peace of mind tbh. dojima clan won't follow here anymore and he can make sure of that. sounds good to me. bUT DID YOU HAVE TO GIVE ME THIS?
Tumblr media
SEDA COWARDS. I was partially hoping he would keep it but this is better. ye. I just ADORE this so much. It is such pain that she doesn't know his name but also I just feel so relieved when she was just. walking around. being normal. I love her I love her she deserves the entire world I'm so happy at this moment.
now you know what made me insane? going from this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to THIS
Tumblr media
and then I went to download the next one and you know what fck you seda I HATE THIS SO MUCH.
Tumblr media
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN.
I mean I think I know but I REALLY thought I was free from tragic brothers. what about ranking up together..... what of their promise? what about "until death do us apart" was THAT A LIE? I'm gonna be honest with you all. I was excited to continue today but after seeing the opening for kiwami I REALLY don't want to. but. whatever.
from what I'm certain and I know it to be true besides mine own speculation:
I like...... this game. I like how kiryu kept his idea of choosing his path by whether he loved-or-hated it. I love how he steadily grows so much over the game and how you can't really notice until he has to make a choice and you see he's still thinks the same but acts just so more maturely. I like how he let his relationships influence him, how it isn't seem as a bad thing ever, how he is always being rewarded for it.
I like how this reflects on loyalty and brotherhod by everybody that is around him, specially nishiki. damn if I know wtf is happening on the next game but the "95 was a dark year, while kiryu serves time in jail, nishikiyama becomes a changed man" just proves that. I like how they try to be away from one another but when nishiki said they are invincible together, he was right. They don't have to be invincible all the time, but it must feel good to. and them choosing to accept the other changing in that ending scene at serena and nothing changing between them UP UNTIL they are separeted in 95' just feels right.
and, all that being said, I like how it all changed made majima into whatever is that guy by the end of yakuza 0. I somehow felt like he needed one more cutscene, specially bc the next games are really focused on kiryu, but even then, it all just fits well. his acceptance now isn't like the one in chapter 15, when he just comppels in being a pawn for sagawa or whatever. it genuinely speaks to the very first time we see him, how he knows nothing but yakuza, how it's his life, and now WELL IT ISN'T THE PERFECT ENDING but it's such a well-written one for someone such as him. he get's to keep doing what he knows, but being just so much cooler and confident about it. IT JUST FEELS. DAMN COOL.
Just overall. The story is so good, the gameplay is so good. I have a handful of poorly done mechanics/writting to point out but the good outweights the bad so hard that I just doesn't feel like it matter at all. The combat is so fun, the mini-games are intuitive and the side-stories are just gold. Having the switch between the two of them made the game just so fun, there is a bunch of stuff I didn't finish but I also didn't felt bored not even for a second. It's honestly such rewarding gaming experience and I love those a lot.
so yeah, I'll stop rambling now or whatever but just. yeah. yakuza 0 good. play it. pls. and talk to me about it. pls. ty.
#trying to act so normal on this damn essay i'm sorry you must know I was actually barking at my monitor once the end screen appeared#yakuza 0#yakuza 0 spoilers#kelly plays ykz#there must be SO MANY typos here but idk I just needed to put my thoughts somewhere and kinda organized so I can go insane in the tags bc#GOD AJJAAJSUDGDSD BITTING MY FISTS BANGING MY HEAD ON THE WALL ETC ETC ETC#seda for everything that exists please I said I wanted more or my tragic brother but NOT LIKE THAT I HATE the opening for ykz 1 so much#WDYM NISHIKI NOT HUGGING KIRYU BUT FIGHTING......... WDYM.#I'm sorry if my blog turns into ykz filled the next days I've been really into giffing again and I feel ill about those characters#and now that I know the majima short hair is in all of the next games I can easily just gif ykz 0 with the idea I had so yeah.#brace yourselves or whatever. I like men a normal amount.#seeing kiryu's back on the title screen tho......... I bet nishiki colored his too..... man.... I'm normal abt thm.#I feel like playing every ykz at this point even after seeing many ppl say that you don't really have to specially 3/4 but idk. kinda#started this series really easily in a 'i'll play when I feel like it' kind of way which isn't how I approach most series#maybe I'm just used to final fantasy lol but the game is just so packed with stuff and it also have such good breaks in the main story#that it makes so much easier to take a break from it irl. genuinely such a well developed game. I'll not stop saying this lol it just. is.#can't believe i'm saying fucking “yakuza 0” when someone asks me what game I recommend them. who would've fucking thought honestly.#the day I bought the idea of trusting this game to have good written tragic brothers and started playing was a damn good choice.#i'm in too deep now. it really is one of those games that makes me emo about how video games are the superior form of story telling#anyway I miss my boys. I'll need some encouragment to keep going with the next entry but i'll so it at some point#until them please enjoy every gifset I send in you guys' way *praying emoji*#can't wait to really meet ichiban by myself!!!!!! lets go!!!!#kelly says

So, today the start of the comedy series Almost Home from 1993 and I've decided to split it into four days. Cast (all episodes): Connie Ray - Millicent Torkelson Olivia Burnette - Dorothy Jane Torkelson Lee Norris - Chuckie Lee Torkelson Rachel Duncan - Mary Sue Torkelson Brittany Murphy - Molly Morgan Jason Marsden - Gregory Morgan and Perry King - Brian Morgan and many more guest stars lol Overview: Having a hard time making ends meet after her divorce, Millicent Torkelson moves her three children to Seattle, where she becomes the nanny to the spoiled Morgan children.
Episode 1: After the Torkelsons move away from Oklahama, they settle in with the Morgans. Well, the kids immediately try to use the new ones to their advantages and it gives trouble with the parents. Brian Morgan works hard and therefore needs the nanny, Mrs. Torkelson but as it seems, she has to raise him as well, because he lets his kids get away with a lot or better, Molly and Gregory have their Dad under control. But with the Torkelsons, there are some changes, yet Molly and Dorothy Jane are in a constant competition whereas Gregory uses the younger Torkelsons to do his chores. Episode 2: Dorothy Jane has gotten a job at a Chicken company in a mall and is in love with her boss. When Molly sees him as well, she hires there as well and both start to compete over him but to their surprise, he already has a girlfriend. Dorothy Jane tries to be like Molly but even that ends in a water fight. Brian gets sick and uses Millicent as his nurse, much to her annoyance and not much later, she sends soda over his stomach but it doesn't have any consequence. The girls, however, realize to be just themselves. Episode 3: Chuckie Lee comes home with broken glasses and decides to change a bit since they are now in a big city. Gregory takes care of it. Dorothy Jane answers the phone which turns out to be the date for Molly. After all come home, Millicent decides to have a real supper with all sitting at the table but that doesn't work with the Morgans. Even two of her own kids refuse. Getting to the door, she sees that Molly's date is a college boy, she forbids her to go. However, Molly and Dorothy Jane flee from the house to the college guys where they turn the table around on a game. When Brian comes home a second time, Millicent is in a baking mood and tells him the truth about the date. Instantly, they race there and ground their daughters. Chuckie Lee is still trying to find out which outfit suits him best.
Episode 4: Molly crashes her Dad's car into the house. Dorothy Jane offers her room to sleep together and get to know each other better, yet Molly snores. However, Brian goes out with a friend Tiffany but Molly doesn't like her. Brian promises to be back by midnight but isn't, making Molly anxious. Dorothy Jane decides to take drastic measures for Molly's snoring and throws water over her, so Millicent has to play peacemaker for both girls until Brian comes home - with destroyed trousers, by a dog. Millicent is shocked when in the early morning she realizes that Molly snores. Episode 5: Dorothy Jane tutors Kevin, the star athlete of the school, in poetry. Millicent has problems with teaching Molly and Gregory values but Brian has no power over his kids. Dorothy Jane is all of a sudden the popular girl. Something she doesn't like but decides to break up with Kevin, yet at the last moment she has different thoughts. Brian is shocked to see his son clean up and more and appreciates Millicent's work. Guest star: Ben Affleck as Kevin Episode 6: Chuckie Lee brings the school's pet home, a snake, scaring anyone. Brian has an important dinner but is without a date. As a last resort, he turns to Millicent Torkelson and asks her. Both insist to their kids it's not a date but well, it is. Dorothy Jane helps her mother get dressed and that earns some earned glances from the men in the house. Dorothy Jane is left in charge of the house but there's still a party going on. They only can get all out until Chuckie Lee misses his snake. Lord Harrington is hard to convince but he's working on Millicent's butt what she doesn't like at all. Only at home, she tells Brian the truth and he admits to like her too while both are making hot chocolate - and then the snake crawls on the table. Guest star: Jared Leto as Rick
Episode 7: Brian's kid brother Jim comes for a visit and he asks his brother if he's interested in Millicent. Brian says he's not, yet still they start a competition who takes her out. Jim wins at their tennis match. At night, Dorothy Jane and Brian wait impatiently. When they return, Jim and Millicent kiss what Brian walks right into. In the morning, Brian lets his temper play but Jim wants more with Millicent, making his brother more jealous. They even bet on her on a basketball match which Brian wins. All kids tell Millicent this, making her taking Brian to the kitchen where they at first fight but then kiss. Whoohoo! Episode 8: The grade reports are coming in. Molly tries her best but her Dad doesn't accept it. In order to make her father proud, she copies Dorothy Jane's book report, making her angry now. Dorothy Jane tells her mother who tries to make her understand why Molly reacts this way. At least, Dorothy Jane suggests that Molly should read a book herself and this is "Jane Eyre". Gregory has his tick with the hidden camera but it backfires. Molly tries once more and Brian can accept his daughter the way she is. Episode 9: Molly and Dorothy Jane share the same birthday. Both are turning 16. Brian decides to put both parties together but Millicent doesn't like it. She tells him so. Well, Dorothy Jane is happy with her family but secretly wishes to be out with Molly who celebrates on the backyard. Brian and Millicent dispute, yet the girls enjoy their birthdays. Gregory hires an escort lady what his Dad finds out but Chuckie Lee is the great winner here. When the girls discuss it in their room, Dorothy Jane sounded like her Mom about materials and feelings on a birthday. Episode 10: It's the Girls' Choice Dance. Molly and Dorothy Jane ask for dates and Sam(antha) asks Gregory after some talking with Millicent. Brian has to leave the supervision on the dance to Millicent, because he has an important meeting on a short notice. Chuckie Lee tries to be a magician - but fails on the handcuffs on Molly and Dorothy Jane. So, the four of them, Mary Sue included, are forced to go to the dance as well. Brian saves Millicent from an annoying teacher because his meeting got cancelled while Gregory finally asks Sam. In the end, each find their suitable dance partner: Molly and Dorothy Jane still handcuffed with a guy, Chuckie Lee with his Mom and Brian with Mary Sue. Guest star: Alyson Hannigan as Sam
Episode 11: Chuckie Lee wants to play his new song on a violine but everyone's busy. Molly, Dorothy Jane and Gregory ask for cars and driver's permit while Brian looks for a young male model for his collection. He finds it in Chuckie Lee and asks Millicent to be there with him. The catalogue went well and so it goes to a commercial where Chuckie Lee tastes the product and from then on, it goes down. At home, after coming out of the car finally, everyone assures Chuckie Lee how special he is and he plays his song to all. Guest star: Cristine Rose as the director of the commercial Episode 12: Dorothy Jane, Molly, Gregory and Sam are trying to get tickets for a rock concert but they are sold out, yet all four are watched by Millicent at night. Brian tries then to make breakfast in the morning but fails miserably. The kids are still trying to get tickets and Gregory uses his Dad's credit card what Brian finds out as he called about it. He grounds his son but Millicent points out that Gregory looks up to his Dad and more. Yet Brian still is trying to cook while Millicent helps. It ends in a disaster and all go to Chicken Hat, surprising everyone there. Tommy Tom is there too, writing his songs and finds out about the trouble the family had and so he invites them to the concert. Brian reminds Gregory that he's still grounded - after the concert. Guest star: Alyson Hannigan as Sam Episode 13: Chuckie Lee walks into the bathroom to see Molly naked and Millicent is forced to talk about sex with her son. Well, after some trouble she enlists Brian's help for this and the two 'men' talk. From then on, Brian is Chuckie Lee's role model which even later turns out that Chuckie Lee asks Brian to bowl instead of his Mom (who is a champion at bowling, btw). Both Brian and Millicent question their qualities as parents, with being both to their kids. Right in the middle of the tournament, Brian hurts his back and he and Millicent switch places, making them the winner team. At home, Chuckie Lee acknowledges what a good Mom he has and Millicent teases Brian about his injury - until she realizes it's real, yet Brian promises to be back soon - and he is. lol
Thoughts: Nice to see Perry King in a comedy series. Unfortunately, it didn't last long.  All episodes are available on Youtube!!
Almost Home is the second season to The Torkelsons.

i can appreciate that spenser is aware that they have 4? episodes to get through so he has to jump cut to the new scene when it feels like things have played out enough, but he nearly fucked us at the end cutting away from marion screaming in sean's arms.
luckily the taking of scars allowed for more scene time to play that out more. sometimes you gotta let the scene breathe before moving on

Hi! I’m not the same anon you replied to about the settle our bones, and I’m not sure if you want to hear any other comments rn, but I wanted to say I really love all your fics but that one specifically!! I love reading sick fics, and I couldn’t care less if it’s the same thing over and over (although I don’t think your fics are like that!). So I guess “realism” never really bothered me in sick fics lol. Tbh I really like the comfort aspects of sick fics that I feel you capture really well. I really should’ve sent something like this earlier; I hope you do continue the series, but only if you want to!!
I appreciate you, thank you 💚
#It’s been a couple weeks now and I’ve done some thinking#and a hell of a lot of rambling to friends#so sorry guys#and I think I’ve come to accept that since this series is hurt/comfort focused#and since sickfic is ultimately my favorite form of hurt/comfort#and since I am the author and I’m writing for my own enjoyment in my limited free time#that Tim is just going to get sick a dissporportionate amount#and that’s just going to have to be the price of admission#like I’m still going to try to tell a cohesive narrative and move the plot forward#but at the end of the day I like sickfic and I feel like there are a lot of different themes that can be explored via sickfic#and so I’m going to use that as my vehicle to tell those stories#because it makes me happy#and that’s that#as I say all of this I have a 10k sickfic that I’m just wrapping up the ending to now for SOB#which got kinda put on hold due to a crisis of partly personal crap I was dealing with#and partly 5 separate people in a very short period of time gently ribbing me for making Tim sick all the time#which you know is fine when I know the person and I have a relationship with them#and is a little harder to deal with when it’s anonymous strangers online#poking fun at how unrealistic a project I put over a year of my life into creating was because no one pukes as much as Timmy does lmao#but at the end of the day#I can’t change what other people think or what they say#I can only decide what I want to do and how I want to interpret what they’re saying#anyway I’ll stop rambling#it’s just been a Journey lately ya feel haha
