[AoN] PxDN Lore Snippet: R-00 + R-01 Reactivation

Yep, I read Persona x Detective Naoto, and yep, I'm incorporating it into this story. Why? ‘Cause it’s not a bad read, and more importantly it’s got a lot of feasible world lore I can use to enrich the setting, of which I can do all sorts of fun stuff with. Also, Sousei and Sho share a lot of similarities in terms of circumstances and behaviors, so any chance for him and Sholar to cross paths has lots of fun potential as well, even if it's only once.

Anyway, this is just a little snippet from the full AoN-PxDN lore doc that I'm getting straightened-up, 'cause I'm excited about how nicely I got it to fit together. \o/

Spoilers for: Persona x Detective Naoto, Persona 3, Persona 4 Arena/Ultimax, and my fic "Apropos of Nothing" (very mildly though, otherwise I wouldn't be posting it xP)

(For quick reference, the R-series ASSW project spanned from roughly 2006 to 2009, with Sousei's run being from 2007-2008, Ai's spanning 2008-2009, and their endings being Yūri's death and Aigis's reactivation respectively. SEES is first founded in Spring 2006 (being Mit/Aki/Shinji), and P3 happens as normal from 2009-2010. The 7th Gen ASSW project also ended with the explosion & creation of the Dark Hour on Sept 10th, 1999.)

So, several times throughout 2011, Minazuki accesses Ikutsuki's isolated server + the Ergo database server in general, with the first instance of the latter catching the ShadOps/KJG's attention. A bit spooked by the unauthorized access, everything related to Ergo (both current and old) is given a thorough security check, resulting in the discovery of 3 ASSWs sitting around in storage, among other things.

(Note: the database server access happens differently in this AU, so up until now, Minazuki had been accessing the isolated server legitimately via Ikutsuki's whitelisted computer with admin credentials, and then attempted to access the general server with an unregistered device. I still have to learn how databases work though, so I might have to adjust that in the future.)

Pretty much no one seems to know much about this mysterious 5th Gen and two R-series androids, despite there actually being a decent bit on information on-file for the latter once they decrypted it, and so, alongside a bunch of other old Ergo artifacts, the three are shipped out to the Yakushima Ergo quarantine facility for inspection and threat assessment. Some of the staff who were cited to work on the R-series are also contacted by Mitsuru to get further information.

(Note: unlike OG, the transport goes smoothly, because canon-divergence. /o/)

Mr. Tsuge Tetsuma has been employed as a researcher in the Kirijo Ergonomics Robotics Division for a long time now, but more importantly since the R-Series project was abruptly halted and its products stuffed away into storage. Now, he was nowhere near happy about having to leave Sousei and Ai in there for all this time, mind you, but he didn't have the authority nor the opportunity to get them back out of storage on his own, and so it was all he could do to stick with the company until an opportunity might arise. Getting a phone call from Mitsuru provided one such opportunity.

With the aid of Tsuge, the three ASSWs are reactivated and inspected, and once Mitsuru learns that they're not threats and are sentient beings with "hearts" of their own, they're given official rank as auxiliary members in the ShadOps to keep Public Safety from trying to confiscate them on the grounds of being "highly dangerous weapons". And… I guess I haven't figured out the specifics beyond that point yet, like if they actually help out the ShadOps or not. I feel like they might given Sousei’s determination to prove his usefulness and Ai’s desire to help out overall, but Sousei’s determination to have a combat-type Persona might also undermine that? Anyway, Tsuge is also brought into the fold as an official ShadOps researcher and tasked with being the supervisor of the Kurogamis due to his past experiences and relations with them and their creator.

(Fun fact: the reactivation order goes Ai, Sousei, Labrys because they have more information on, and familiarity with, the R-series units than the 5th Gen unit, so there's less risk involved with activating the Kurogamis than there is with Labrys. (Plus, in the event that Labrys ends up being hostile or out of control, the Kurogamis could be called in to help suppress her.) Also, Tsuge knows that Sousei will be rowdier than Ai, so as one of the chief specialists on the team, he's making the executive decision to give the team the ‘easier’ one to start with, lol.)

A year passes (which is what makes up a lot of Sousei's impression of "smoldering away at a lab, not yet fulfilling his mission as a suppression weapon"), and in late 2012 the National Police Agency entreats the KJG for technological aid in civilian safety and law enforcement measures. With the Kurogamis’ robotic physique and Sousei’s Past Reading in mind, this opportunity gets presented to Tsuge and the Kurogamis, of which Tsuge eventually gets Sousei on board with when he learns that they can be stationed at Yagokoro's PD, where Aoi Touko works. Ai didn't really need a ton of convincing, being content to be wherever Tsuge and Sousei are and determined to help out where she can.

(Note: part of the "last year's brutal crimes" is influenced by the Inaba kidnapping and murder cases, as it caused quite a stir across the nation, though the other part is probably more mundane, non-magical crime. Also, other technology and robotics were implemented in other PD's across Japan, but Yagokoro was the only one to make use of ASSWs specifically.)

And from there, PxDN happens more-or-less as normal, although certain events may or may not have Naoto meet the Kurogamis and/or Tsuge before PxDN occurs. It depends on if they end up staying on Yakushima for the whole time or if they go to an Ergo or ShadOps facility on mainland Japan, and furthermore if it happens to be the one Naoto visits or not. Most likely, if they do cross paths at all, it'll be brief, or else an off-handed mention of them by someone else, but I'll have to see as I solidify more of that part of the timeline. P:

Also, Tsuge’s employment with the ShadOps lets him distribute Evokers to Touko and Naoto during PxDN’s events, perhaps special models more recently designed for use outside of the Dark Hour/CoUn, because they really shouldn’t be able to summon their Personas so casually in the conscious world. It’s somewhat believable for when Naoto Awakens to Amatsu Mikaboshi and when she’s trying to save Touko, given the circumstances, but outside of that. :P

Sholar Vash would be so fucking proud of her.

My theory is that, if you MC is an Elf, this lore tablet was left by their parents of House Nightbloom.

That could work for other race MCs as well but for them it would be a bit more unlikely.

I love that we got more info about the pantheon of the old gods. Hope we get more on the new gods too.

But I also saw a post about something in book one, when you are in the hallway with the statues and how even Nia didn't know about the winged warrior statue that looked very scary.

And as I am typing I think, what if that was the watcher before he became a realmwalker?

I'm gonna visit my grandma now so post 4 will have to wait a little.

Amanda America Dickson (November 20, 1849 – June 11, 1893) was an African-American socialite in Georgia who became known as one of the wealthiest African American women of the 19th century after inheriting a large estate from her white planter father.[1]: 360–61

Born into slavery, she was the child of David Dickson, a white planter, and Julia Frances Lewis (Dickson), a young enslaved woman of his who was thirteen when her daughter was born. Amanda was raised by Elizabeth Sholars Dickson, her white grandmother and legal mistress. She was educated and schooled in the social skills of her father's class, and he helped her to enjoy a life of privilege away from the harsh realities of slavery before emancipation following the Civil War. In her late 20s, Dickson attended the normal school of Atlanta University, a historically black college, from 1876 to 1878.

After her father's death in 1885, Amanda Dickson inherited his estate. His white relatives challenged the will but Dickson ultimately won a successful ruling in the case. His estate included 17,000 acres of land in Hancock and Washington counties in Georgia. She married twice: her first husband was white while her second husband was wealthy, educated, and mixed-race.

In June 1893, with the kidnapping drama (involving Mamie Toomer, Charles Dickson, and Charles Dickson's co-conspirators) behind them, Nathan and Amanda America purchased two first-class tickets from a sales representative of the Pullman Palace Car Company to transport them from Baltimore, Maryland back to Augusta, Georgia. Because of racial discrimination, they were denied their first-class accommodations and direct, unimpeded travel to Augusta.[1]: 120–121 The delayed travel to Augusta and the conditions in the Pullman car, most notably the rising temperature, became intolerable for Amanda America. As a result, her health quickly deteriorated.[1]: 120–121 Dr. F. D. Kendall, who examined her on the morning of June 9, 1893, noted that her heart and lungs appeared to be fine, but that she was obviously very nervous and anxious to return home. Dr. Kendall gave her anodyne, a pain-relieving medication.[1]: 122

Nathan and a very ill Amanda America arrived back at their home in Augusta, Georgia between four and five in the afternoon on June 9, 1893. She was quickly tended to by Dr. Eugene Foster, in place of their family physician, Thomas D. Coleman, who was out of town.[1]: 122 She was diagnosed with neurasthenia (general exhaustion of the nervous system), or Beard's disease. Symptoms of neurasthenia, as described by nineteenth-century physicians, include "sick headache, noises in the ear, atonic voice, deficient mental control, bad dreams, insomnia, nervous dyspepsia (disturbed digestion), heaviness of the loin and limb, flushing and fidgetiness, palpitations, vague pains and flying neuralgia (pain along a nerve), spinal irritation, uterine irritability, impotence, hopelessness, claustrophobia, and dread of contamination."[1]: 123 Amanda America Dickson Toomer died on June 11, 1893, with "complications of diseases" being the cause of death listed on her death certificate.[1]: 123

Amanda America Dickson Toomer's funeral took place at the Trinity Colored Methodist Episcopal Church in Augusta, Georgia.[1]: 123 Amanda America died without a will, which resulted in a legal battle after her death for control of her estate. Her mother, Julia Frances Lewis Dickson, and her second husband, Nathan Toomer, both petitioned in court to be designated the temporary administrator of her estate.[1]: 127 Ultimately, Julia Dickson, Nathan Toomer, and Amanda America's younger son, Charles Dickson, settled the dispute over Amanda America's estate amicably out of court.[1]: 128

Nine months after Dickson's death, Nathan Toomer married Nina Pinchback, the daughter of P. B. S. Pinchback, the Reconstruction Era senator-elect from Louisiana. On December 26, 1894, they became parents to Jean Toomer. He became known as a Harlem Renaissance writer, noted for his modernist novel Cane (1923).

Niat VBAC :

- Ingin menjalankan fitrah kelahiran

- Ingin ada kesempatan untuk punya anak banyak

- Ingin agar proses kehamilan dan persalinan tidak melibatkan laki-laki non mahram

Birth Story :

Sebelumnya kami rutin periksakan kandungan dengan salah seorang bidan disini. Bidan tsb memang tidak sepenuhnya pro VBAC, dan tetap menyuruh untuk lahiran di Rumah Sakit. Namun bidan tsb juga men-spill ikhtiar-ikhtiar untuk lahiran normal, dan berdoa biar hasilnya diserahkan kepada Allah. Hal ini membuat harapan semakin besar meski bidan tsb tidak menerima VBAC di kliniknya.

Untuk dokter kami periksakan 2x USG saja di UK 24w dan 37w, dengan dokter perempuan yang kurang/tidak pro VBAC. Sebenarnya kabarnya ada dokter pro VBAC di daerah kami, namun sayangnya dokter tsb laki-laki.

Saat USG ke-dua, Bu dokter sudah ingin menjadwalkan sesar. Pertama karena menduga panggul sempit dgn TB hanya 144cm, tapi saat dicek kata beliau sebenarnya tidak terlalu sempit. Lalu beliau memaparkan risiko rahim robek (ruptur uteri) jika lahiran normal. Namun, kami menolak untuk dijadwalkan sesar saat itu.

Kronologi :

Kamis, 19 Oktober (39w) sore sudah mulai ada kontraksi teratur namun jarak masih lama sekitar 30 menit sekali.

Jumat, 20 Oktober (39w1d) kontraksi makin intens tapi masih di atas 10 menit sekali.

Sabtu, 21 Okt (39w2d)

- Pagi hari, kontraksi sudah 7 menit-an sekali.

- Habis ashar, kontraksi makin intens, dicek aplikasi 3-5 menit sekali.

- 16.30 ke rumah sakit, ternyata baru pembukaan 2 tipis. Disini agak nyesel kayak kegasiken ke rumah sakit, karena setelah itu langsung dipasang infus jadi susah bergerak.

- Sebelum magrib, tiba-tiba ditanya, makan terakhir kapan?

Dokter (saat itu belum di tempat), lewat telepon dgn bidan jaga ternyata menawarkan operasi Sesar pukul 18.15 karena jarak lahir <5 tahun dan risiko rahim robek.

Saat itu suami bimbang. Sedangkan saya, ingin normal, tapi mengutamakan keridhoan suami. Suami sempat ingin operasi saja, hingga akhirnya meminta waktu untuk shalat magrib dulu.

Saat suami shalat magrib, saya tiba-tiba dipasang keteter dan disiapkan baju operasi.

- Setelah pulang shalat, suami berdiskusi sedikit dengan saya lagi, dan katanya lebih condong untuk lahiran normal dengan pertimbangan; janin masih sejahtera, kontraksi adekuat, serta jahitan sesar sudah diikhtiarkan untuk elastis dan memang tidak ada keluhan.

Akhirnya suami menandatangani surat penolakan tindakan sesar.

Keteter pun dilepas dan saya kembali fokus ke kontraksi.. Bismillah..

- 20.30 ketuban pecah karena saya gagal atur nafas dan malah mengejan >< (PR buat kehamilan selanjutnya)

- 21.00 dicek sudah keliatan rambutnya

- 21.45 Alhamdulillaah bayi lahir selamat sehat bonus jahitan luar dalam

(untuk waktunya hanya perkiraan. intinya sekitar itu)

Ikhtiar :

- Cat and cow pose

- Gymball

- Powerwalk

- Butterfly pose

- Ngepel jongkok

- Latihan nafas perut

- Gamat 2kapsul/hari

- Kepada Ibu Bidan Ayu atas segala arahan dan bidan-bidan di RS Siaga Medika Purbalingga yang sudah menolong persalinan

- Kepada channel Ceritavbac dan Teman Bumil- VBAC untuk saling support dan berbagai informasi yang diberikan.

Namun di lahiran ini masih menyisakan PR untuk kelahiran selanjutnya: lebih serius lagi latihan nafas dan maksimalkan pijat perineum agar perineum utuh. Namun begitu tetap bersyukur atas segala kemudahan yang Allah berikan.

Disclaimer: I’ve been staring at both this and my cacophony of assorted AoN notes for too long, so if something doesn’t make sense in it, just let me know and I’ll do my best to clarify it.

Autoethnography: An Overview

Ellis, Carolyn, Tony E. Adams, and Arthur P. Bochner. "Autoethnography: an overview." Historical social research/Historische sozialforschung (2011): 273-290

Autoethnography is about describing and analysing personal experience and contextualising it to understand the wider cultural experience. Sholars began noticing a change in the validity of research that was written by researchers and could only be read by researchers, because it was decided that was true. Finding research that was value-centric rather than coming across as value-free led to more positive responses in the critique of the ‘canonical ideas’ brought forward from the research. Autoethnographic research produces ‘meaningful, accessible and evocative research’ research with personal experience that will sensitize the reader to the experience of others and hopefully provide a new perspective in the process.
