What would the role of soldier characters be in a generally United Material Plane on Ardowin (specifically army drummers) (definitely not for any future campaign characters)?

Ardowin has not had large-scale international conflict for many years, given the Pact of Arcane Engagement. These rules were put forth by Marcain Alabaster in 142 P.C. when Alexi Cycero of Notorask attempted to launch an offensive on the larger part of the Shakari Desert in an attempt to stake claim on the lost territories of Har'Akir. The high mages of each country laid waste to the land of Notorask, which would later be called the Barren Moor. Thousands of innocent lives were lost by the continuously escalating magical warfare, including some less than moral tactics employed to try and mitigate the damage.

The Pact of Arcane Engagement state that, in the case of armed mass conflict, no country or state is to employ the use of unnecessarily destructive magic, which is described in detail in the Pact. The consequences of large-scale arcane conflict would be catastrophic for Ardowin and thousands of its inhabitants. As such, the leaders of each country have since agreed to more amicable means of conflict resolution when dealing with other countries.

That being said, all countries have armies, namely in the event that one of the less cooperative nations, such as that of Emperor Itzotzal of the Yuan-ti, decides to launch an assault on another country, but also to defend against extraplanar threats, such as the Nine Hells. While they are not at arms, most countries' soldiers are given one of two options: take up a useful trade in a less-well-off town, or to serve as some sort of security, city guard or otherwise.

Army drummers would likely find good employment in the courts of nobility as it gives them quick access to authority in case conflict does break out.

Riotfest was so fucking fun this year

Friday was great! We didn't make it early enough to see Aquadolls but we saw everyone else we wanted! Hawthorne Heights ended up being a great start to our day! Oso Oso, Screaming Females, Silverstein, and Tegan and Sara all had great crowd vibes.

Dave Grohl was phenomenal. The Foo Fighters were just having a good time and I think I fell in love with Josh Freese so there's that. They kept showing a birds eye of his drumming and I fucking died. I loved their jamming and the goofy vibes.

Saturday was non-stop for us! We saw most of Warpaint's set. That was definitely worth being up earlier than planned.

Bowling for Soup made a bunch of emo kids sing the Phineas and Ferb Theme song. Enter Shakari was amazing! My crazy-shy friend jumped in one of the pits! Im so proud of her! We even saw the last 15 of Corey Feldman's set -weird choice but he brought such good energy. Head Automatica was great live

Watched the first half of Death Cab for Cutie's set and even got to see all of Sleep Token (due to a tech issue, it got pushed back).

Then ICP! holy shit. I thought I knew what to expect, but I was unprepared. It was everything I wanted and more. Is it sacrilegious to wash the battle vest I was faygo-baptized in?

Sunday was probably my favorite day, even with the rain delay. Unfortunately Microwave & Just Mustard got cut due to said delay, but LS Dunes came back to celebrate their first year as a Real Band. Joined the pit nearly every song and held point when I needed a break. Even met Punk!Dino. What an experience.

I saw Flogging Molly, most of Gorilla Biscuits, and cried when The Used played Giving Up.

I also cried during The Cure's set but what else is to be expected? I also made temporary friends with a lovely group of 50 year olds.

drea had practically lived inside of the school’s library. there, she could have an excuse to not speak to people. theycould hold the facade of being shy, when the reality was that she just simply .. didn’t find any of her peers worth speaking to. the only thing drea ever truly wanted was to be seen. they read countless biographies of stage performers, in whispers they learned their lines. deep down she knew she was important, she had to be. 

and so she stepped outside of her hovel, just that one time: standing in front of a panel of judges. ms. goldmann front and center. and drea poured their soul out, nearly cried from the anxiety. in fact- for a week after that she couldn't seem to stop shaking. until the cast list came up.

sweaty palms the whole walk there, keeping their eyes low so no one could suspect just how much they cared, and then the bellowing drop in her stomach when their name was nowhere to be found.

… and it was never supposed to be the whole auditorium- meant it more as a STATEMENT piece, that she burned brighter than anyone on stage, but the flames spread outside of the drama teacher’s office, and drea realized she had very little knowledge on how to contain a fire. 

the careful planning for the perfect timing, using whoever she needed to, to not get caught and still it had blown up- literally.

Ashes to ashes, she looked the other way. Going back to her hole in the library seemed to be the right decision, as who would expect her of arson? 

drea would never admit who she had and hadn’t slept with, the things she burned and the people’s whos lives got turned around because of her actions, because in those large eyes she always felt she was justified.

Drea was right, she was made to be seen- just not in harsh stage lights. instead, on billboards and magazines, interviews with celebrities bigger than her, still she was all the comments spoke of. the new betty, she sends a chill, she is Polar. Yes, it seems she likes the title. It took little work besides her face, little more than a sour expression and parted lips. Seth Rogen lashed out at team USA after sprinter Shakari Richardson was banned from the 100m at the Olympics after testing positive for cannabis.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) said Richardson accepted a one-month suspension.

Scene 1: Dragon’s Hoard

The gang sneaks into the cavern, having heard rumor of an ancient dragon of terrifying strength taking lair here. Classic rpg plot hook, but it might go deeper than that. This dragon was probably involved in the ancient history of the land, perhaps having some parts to play in the larger villainous plots unfolding across Azeria. The amount of dragons that show up in the story and exist in my world is not small in the slightest, so I could definitely see this happening. In fact, in the sequel, it does happen, though with different characters.

Faulkron reacts with practicality. Get the treasure, only fight the dragon if necessary. BUT, if it is necessary, kick its ass good. Fuego feels drawn to the dragon, and may attempt to negotiate with it for information or loot, or maybe even try to entertain it with his exaggerated tales of sorcery and intrigue. Alejandro stays quiet. He’s not motivated much by riches, but if the dragon threatens his friends he’ll happily throw hands. Jetra reacts with potentially fatal curiosity: the bard in her won’t let her leave without reading all the scrolls and inspecting all the artifacts she possibly can. Shakari reacts with cool confidence. What is a dragon to a dragonborn anyway? A bigger, scarier grandpa? They’d probably try to go the negotiation route, but their confidence would make them unafraid to face the thing head-on if need be.

Scene 2: Rock Concert

I want so so badly for there to be a fantasy rock concert. Wizard pyrotechnics? Superhuman stunt work? Dwarven metal and orcish ballads? Sign me the fuck up. Canonically, could happen, all I gotta do is say it does. And yes this crew would end up there somehow, of course they would.

Gods know Jetra would be right at home. She’s a bard, a warrior, and a wildchild at times, and she’d not miss something like this. Meeting the musicians would be an honor for her. Fuego definitely gets his party on, though he has trouble seeing anything past all the taller folks in front of him, since he’s a halfling. Faulkron is appreciative of the music, and lets loose a little. He enjoys the time spent with his friends more than the actual concert aspect, I’m sure. Alejandro doesn’t attend, or if he does he leaves quickly. He doesn’t do well with loud noises or lots of shouting due to his time in the gladiator pits, so this would not be a good place to be for him. Finally, I think Shakari would thoroughly enjoy themself. Let loose, sing along, stop being in the spotlight for a while, same sorta deal as Faulkron.

Liza and her older brother Bokat meeting - he remembers her and has been actively looking for her for fifteen years; forgive him for being a little more enthusiastic than she is. (He was going in for a hug when she shoved her hand between them for a handshake to stop that.)

Bokat is a real sweetheart - he cares about his family above basically everything else, and immediately goes all protective older brother over Liza. He’s also the only Sith to call her Liza consistently instead of being like their mother and insisting on Karekhsani, the birth name she doesn’t remember.
