Rico und Oskar sind zwei Jungs, die im selben Haus in der Berliner Dieffenbachstraße wohnen und sich trotz ihrer Unterschiede (Rico ist tiefbegabt und abenteuerlustig, Oskar extrem intelligent und übervorsichtig) anfreunden und gemeinsam mysteriöse Fälle in der Nachbarschaft lösen. Und wer da jetzt bei Berlin und Kinderdetektiven an Erich Kästners Emil und die Detektive denkt, ist schon auf der richtigen Spur, allerdings aus einer gänzlich neuen Perspektive und angepasst an das 21. Jahrhundert. Warum sich die Bekanntschaft mit Rico und Oskar lohnt, erzähle ich euch heute.

“Ich sollte an dieser Stelle wohl erklären, dass ich Rico heiße und ein tiefbegabtes Kind bin. Das bedeutet, ich kann zwar sehr viel denken, aber das dauert meistens etwas länger als bei anderen Leuten. An meinem Gehirn liegt es nicht, das ist ganz normal groß. Aber manchmal fallen ein paar Sachen raus, und leider weiß ich vorher nie, an welcher Stelle. Außerdem kann ich mich nicht immer gut konzentrieren, wenn ich etwas erzähle. Meistens verliere ich dann den roten Faden, jedenfalls glaube ich, dass er rot ist, er könnte aber auch grün oder blau sein, und genau das ist das Problem.” (Rico, Oskar und die Tieferschatten)

1) Humor Ricos Art zu erzählen amüsiert mich jedes Mal wieder aufs Köstlichste. Durch seinen kindlichen Blick auf die Welt drückt er viele Sachverhalte trocken und lakonisch aus, ohne es selbst zu bemerken. Dabei wird besonders viel Wert auf den Wortwitz gelegt, entweder indem Rico Dinge wortwörtlich nimmt oder sie eigenwillig weiterdenkt bzw. hinterfragt (wieso gibt es ein Mittelmeer, aber kein Links- und Rechtsmeer?).

“PARA-NEUJAHR: Wenn man davon überzeugt ist, dass jemand hinter einem her ist, obwohl er sich in Wirklichkeit gar nicht für einen interessiert. Irina sagte, so ginge es ihr ständig mit irgendwelchen Typen. Ich verstehe bloß nicht, was das mit dem 1. Januar zu tun hat.” (Rico, Oskar und der Diebstahlstein)

2) Diversität Steinhöfel zeigt eine große Bandbreite verschiedener Charaktere, die oft nicht dem Status Quo entsprechen, sei es weil sie keinen glamourösen Job haben (Ricos Mutter arbeitet nachts in einem Club, die Nachbarin Frau Dahling als Fleischfachverkäuferin), lernbeeinträchtigt sind (Rico), nicht dem konventionellen Familienmodell entsprechen (sowohl Ricos als auch Oskars Elternteil ist alleinerziehend), verschiedene kulturelle Hintergründe haben (die späteren Freund*innen des Duos) oder mit ihrer psychischen Gesundheit hadern (Oskars Vater). Mit all diesen Facetten wird zwar humoristisch, aber stets einfühlsam umgegangen, so dass ein realistisches Abbild einer Gesellschaft entsteht, in der niemand perfekt ist und es niemandem die ganze Zeit super geht.

3) Freundschaft Die Freundschaft zwischen Rico und Oskar macht so einiges mit. Im ersten Band lernen die beiden sich erstmal kennen und die Unterschiede aneinander schätzen. Später werden sie richtig dicke Freunde, die aber auch immer wieder aneinander geraten, streiten, schmollen, kurz getrennte Wege gehen und sich wieder herzlich vertragen. Im vierten Band lernen die beiden eine neue Freundesgruppe kennen, was neuen Wind in ihre Dynamik bringt.

4) Berlin Rico und Oskar wohnen in der Dieffenbachstraße 93 und obwohl es die Hausnummer in besagter Straße nicht gibt, lassen sich die restlichen Stadtbeschreibungen vom Urbankrankenhaus über das Förderzentrum bis zum Edeka die Straße runter detailgetreu im Kreuzberger Kiez wiederfinden. Womöglich vermittelt das in erster Linie Berlinkenner*innen ein wohliges Heimatgefühl, aber auch Erstbesucher*innen können mit den Jungs durch die Straßen flanieren, die Etagen im Karstadt am Hermannplatz erkunden, ein Hausboot auf der Spree besichtigen, über den Flohmarkt im Tiergarten schlendern und sich an Ricos Beschreibungen erfreuen. Später geht es sogar über die Stadtgrenzen hinaus ins Grüne, an die Ostsee und nach Hessen. Außerdem durchlaufen die Helden, wie schon einige Cover und Titel andeuten, auch sämtliche Jahreszeiten in der Hauptstadt.

5) Wörter lernen Aufgrund seiner Tiefbegabung begegnen Rico regelmäßig Fremdwörter, die er nicht versteht. Die schaut er dann mit Vorliebe im Lexikon nach und teilt seine Erkenntnisse in eigenen Worten mit den Lesenden. Aber Achtung, seine Erklärungen sind nicht immer zu 100 Prozent verlässlich.

“IRONIE: Spöttisch gemeintes Gegenteil von dem, was man eigentlich sagt. Wenn man es nicht spöttisch, sondern richtig böse meint, ist das Sarkasmus. Außerdem gibt es noch Zynismus, das ist jenseits von Gut und Böse. Wenn alle einfach nett zueinander wären, könnte man also drei schwierige Fremdwörter sparen, aber nee …” (Rico, Oskar und der Diebstahlstein)

So und nun wird es Zeit für euch, Rico und Oskar einen eigenen Besuch abzustatten. Ich empfehle dafür wärmstens das vom Autor selbst gelesene Hörbuchformat (Achtung, es gibt auch ein Hörspiel), in dem Ricos naive Erzählstimme authentisch und amüsant zum Leben erwacht.

2. Best movie I've seen in the cinema last year?

Honestly? Actually Puss in Boots - The Last Wish. I immediately fell in love with the animation when I first watched the trailer and when I went to see the whole movie I was completely carried away by the story too! I love this movie so much. Kitties and puppies 😭😭💞

3. What do you usually wear?

In the summer? Button-up/t-shirt + shorts + funny socks + crocs

In the winter? Sweater (with something collared underneath) + high-rise jeans (in any color with any leg width except skinny jeans) + funny socks + docs or crocs boots + the purple winter jacket I got from the h&m men's section only a few weeks ago but I've been wearing it non-stop bc it's exactly the kind of jacket I've been looking for for years and I finally have a cool functional winter jacket in my favorite color!!! 😩🤌💜💜💜

4. Star sign? Celebrity etc. you share your birthday with?

Leo, and I share a birthday with the episodes Eclipse Lake from The Owl House and Wishmaker from Miraculous Ladybug 😌

If we're going with real celebrities like singers or actors.. I was born exactly one day before Tristan Göbel :-)

5. Do you go by your name or nickname?

Depends. My close friends and family mostly call me Lenny, but I always introduce myself to new people with my birth name.

6. Did you grow up to what you wanted to be as a child?

Even as a child I never knew what I wanted to be and I always wrote "weiß ich noch nicht" in that empty space in the Freundebuch, so basically yes bc I still have no plans but now I'm studying languages 👍

7. What's something you're good/bad at?

I'm pretty good at crafty and creative stuff like crocheting, sewing, drawing and all that. Also learning new languages comes pretty easy to me, but I'll probably withdraw this statement after I've gotten back the results from my uni exams that I have yet to write...

Something I'm really, really bad at is being consistent with something. There's always something I'm forgetting and when it comes to important stuff like uni I often can't get myself to even open the uni website on my laptop as if I was paralyzed. Ahaha, anyway on to the next question...

8. Dogs or cats?

See, I'm the person who claims that they like both. And y'know I do like both. When I see someone walking outside with their dog I'm the one excitedly squeaking: "SCHAU MAL EIN HUNDI!!! :-)", but when I see a cat I get even more excited and in my head I'm like: "!!!!!!!!!!!!" bc I don't want to make too many loud noises and scare it off (you know I wanna pet that kitty!!!)

9. If you draw/write, or create in any way, what's your fav picture/line/something you created this past year?

The tiny Sendung Mit Der Maus-Maus I crocheted :-)

10. What's something you'd like to create content for?

Tough one. First of all gzsz bc I'm basically the only funny fanartist they have. I mean I've seen some artists drawing realistic portraits from screenshots but that's why I say I'm the only funny one out there. Anyone can redraw a screenshot but I'm the only person willing to draw Maren and Katrin or Michi and Tobias kissing, so even if my sketches look messy and I post so inconsistently that I'll never get more than 3 notes on something I still think I'm doing a more valuable job than people who redraw something that's already happened only for the sake of flexing how realistic their artstyle is. (It's a different story tho if the redraw is stylized!!! There's so much personality to stylized art!!)

So... To come back to the original question. Gzsz definitely, maybe some crossovers like my ml au as well shhshshss, Miraculous Ladybug in general, also Osomatsu-san or Owl House and all that stuff I'm currently watching. Tschick. Yeah.

11. What's something you're currently obsessed with?

Just scroll through my blog for a while.

Besides that? Crocheting. I love that you can do it while watching something, so I feel like I'm doing something useful even while watching AWZ 😩

12. What's a hidden talent of yours?

Nobody peels mandarin oranges and clementines like me! I always peel them in a spiral pattern and almost never fail!! 😤💪

14. What's something you wish to have at this moment?

Right now at this exact moment? Nothing really. Bin grad wunschlos glücklich, als hätte ich ein halbes Erdbeermarmeladebrot mit Honig verzehrt und würde mit leerer Gedankenblase irgendwo rumliegen und den Rest meines Tages genießen 🍯🍓🍞

Woyzeck was fine, Faust was okay-ish, but Der Vorleser and especially Die Marquise von O made me never wanna look at a book again tbh. which is sad, cause there are some really good german classics! we couldve read Hesse or Kafka or something idc, just please not Die Marquise von O. i hate this book so much its unbelievable

Thanks so much @gliagirlphd for tagging me. I always think I don’t watch a lot or enough movies. But there are some that comfort me or make me feel happy.

Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. always look forward to these movies during christmas.

I like action movies, especially those with Jackie Chan, Rush Hour 1-3 (actually currently watching Rush Hour 3, so entertaining)

Black Panther - still amazed. One of the best movies I watched.

The Hobbit, movies 1-3. I am emotionally attached to these.

Der dritte und letzte Teil der großartigen Berliner Trilogie nach den Bücher von Andreas Steinhövel hätte vieles werden können – schade, das es kein würdiger Abschied geworden ist, was vielleicht aber auch an der Literaturvorlage lag.
