Detail of Napoleon’s throne at the Château de Fontainebleau, created around 1804-1808.
Made by François-Honoré-Georges Jacob-Desmalter, based on the designs of Percier and Fontaine.
According the American travel writer, Rick Steves, Napoleon’s throne room at Fontainebleau is the only French throne room with its original furniture that has survived.
Before being being moved to Fontainebleau, this throne was originally made for Napoleon’s throne room at the Château de Saint-Cloud. The entire palace was burned down in 1870, and completely demolished in 1891. It was never rebuilt.

Travel guru Rick Steves "Here I am, heading off to Europe the day after high school graduation in 1973 — with a budget of $3 a day, a ten-week Eurail pass in my pocket, and the biggest backpack I could find, jam-packed. I came home with no money, a malnourished body, and an enduring love of Europe."

Somewhere in the neighborhood of a decade ago, my wife and I took a honeymoon trip to Europe. To celebrate this anniversary, we decided to make another voyage overseas – this time with a couple of little ones along for the ride! I am planning a full write-up on this trip, to include some lessons learned…but I think that post is going to take some time to formulate. I want to share some photos and…

I've also thought about what TV shows which historical figures would enjoy. I don’t have quite as extensive of a list, though.

My Spain vacation
If I was to rank the cities that I visited I would say that Ronda was number 1.
The water mine under the Casa Del Ray Moro in Ronda was a great excursion. We walked down the stairwell tunnel from the canyon ridge to the water below in the canyon. Photo above is in the canyon . We found this excursion on Rick Steves Europe tours on YouTube.
Bosch @boschintegral-photo @boschintegral, you asked me what I liked about Spain. There are so many things that it would be hard for me to list them all. I thought I would start here. I could write you a book but that would be a bit much 😊. I really do enjoy your friendship here on Tumblr, it means a lot to me.

So many of these Leftists are pure reactionaries and have fallen prey to dangerous extremist thinking. I used to think their intentions were good, but October 7th and the aftermath has sobered me up quite a bit on that point. I have noticed a foreboding change in the winds since 2016 and foresee this global rise in extremism and fundamentalism on both the Left and the Right getting worse before it gets better.
I highly recommend everyone watches Rick Steve’s documentary on YouTube about the rise of fascism in Europe pre-WW II.
I’m asking myself now if it’s too late to stop it happening again. I hope not.
The doc is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU1IVW6uqM0
It is indeed a playbook to seize power from democracy's weakness - and one that is increasingly relevant in the world. I could point to Trump's use of democracy for as long as it suits him, or antifa's open advocacy for violence to counter oppression, so they say. You can read Hitler's essay on race and nation and how assimilation is impossible, your people are your genetic birthright and so is your place in their culture. Then go read a leftist article about cultural appropriation, or explanations about how colonization is to blame for modern wars by creating nations that didn't align with the location of various ethnic groups. These ideas go round and round. The documentary talks about humiliating the defeat of WW1 was, but was just for men, or did everyone tell themselves this story? I think the communist revolution in Russia had more impact both on the desire and fear for change. How much do we alter reality by the stories we tell ourselves about what's happening. Everyone will say they are justified, where do you draw the line?
Human nature doesn't change. People will trade freedom for security, difficult truths for comforting lies, simple stories for jumbled questions. I'm not exempt from this - no one is, even if this post is a jumble of my own. True history is almost a spasm of colliding ideas and forces, not a single convenient narrative. Be alert and cast a wide net for ideas, and be prepared to challenge your own beliefs and biases as you go.
