Happy 26th anniversary to one of my favorite Val movies the saint 1997 👼
Val was brilliant, funny and scorching hot as Simon Templar (and shivering like a leaf).
The saint cast at the movie premiere
"I see my angel for the first time. Know my purpose, feel my birth, Hear, at first faintly, then distinctly the sweet strains of our union. Our love heats up the cold universe And gives my tired, desperate hope A reason and season to be revealed . We, purified by our kisses, are eternally healed."
(Simon's poetry is actually Val's own poetry he wrote for the movie)
The late, great Katrin Cartridge is most recognizable from Mike Leigh’s films, but here she appears in this Macedonian gem alongside Croatian actor Rade Šerbedžija, a character actor who seems to pop up in most every kind of film, but for never quite long enough. This is probably his best role. He won at Venice for this, and it was Macedonia’s first film to be nominated for an Oscar.
The film touches on cycles of life, violence and social upheaval, with a looping narrative, set against a stark Macedonian landscape.
It's crazy to think that if the unaired pilot had aired that this would have been our Moonlight/(Twilight) (2007) cast Alex O'Loughlin is still there but there would be no Sophia Myles,Jason Dohring or Shannyn Sossamon
Watched the #Shooter TV series & loved the former Marine sniper framed for murder and out for justice storyline. The 2007 movie is just as action-packed and engaging.

Review
I’ve been interested in this movie for years. Why didn’t I watch it? I was invested in the Ryan Philippe-lead TV series and didn’t want the movie to spoil it for me.
This movie has suspense, corruption, and a skilled individual…
Before the Rain https://bit.ly/3TPU3q4 One of the great feature debuts, Milcho Manchevski’s 1994 drama Before the Rain announced the arrival of new talent and went straight onto the New York Times Best 1,000 Movies list. Manchevski has been busy ever since, making rap videos, directing episodes of TV shows like The Wire and cranking out films set in the Old West and modern New York. But in between all that he’s regularly returned to Macedonia to make highly distinctive dramas, often with an episodic structure, as here, and often drawing parallels between one story and another. In Before the Rain’s first story a monk (Grégoire Colin) who has taken a vow of silence one day finds a … Read more

All of that changes when she suddenly begins to suffer the Stigmata – the living wounds of the crucified Christ. Frankie’s miraculous bleeding comes to the attention of the Vatican’s top investigator, Father Kiernan (Gabriel Byrne). But when Cardinal Houseman (Jonathan Pryce), discovers that Frankie is actually channeling an extraordinary and provocative message that could destroy the Church, he's convinced that she – and the force possessing her – must be forever silenced. Determined to stop this deadly conspiracy, Kiernan risks his faith – and his life – to save her and the message that will change the destiny of mankind forever.
Celebrating the 26th anniversary of the saint 1997 .. This video on YouTube is probably the only footage available online of the alternate ending of the saint.
Unfortunately this vid is part of the old Russian VHS so it's dubbed in Russian..The subtitles are nicely provided by the provider of the vid in their comments I believe.

if someone wanted to understand why I go so apeshit crazy over croatian artists I'm BEGGING YOU. read Dobriša Cesarić if you're feeling that sarcastic poetry. Ivana Brlić Mažuranić if you want folk-fairytales. slavenka drakulić if you love essays and nonfiction. Ivan kušan if you love children's literature that EMBODY the ex-yu feeling of childhood. Danijel Dragojević and Monika Herceg as that newer, fresher take on croatian poetry. even silente if you're up for some modern, newer-ish music. not to mention the other NUMEROUS talented songwriters and singers. Meštrović's sculptures, Oton Iveković and Slava Raškaj as painters. actors like Rade Šerbedžija and Mira Furlan. croatian artists have so much to give. don't ignore them.
seeing all the goncharov content everywhere and cannot believe no one's talking about the best character unnamed russian weapons dealer played by rade šerbedžija 😔
