RNM Heat Weekend 2022: Aliens and A/B/O June 24-27

It’s Back, Baby! RNM Heat Weekend returns during Roswell’s hottest days of the summer!

This is an event featuring Extreme Thirst, especially on the topic of Omegaverse (Alpha/Beta/Omega or A/B/O) Tropes and Dynamics! Open to all types of fan creators- whether you write fic, create fanart and moodboards, edit gifs, make vids and more, all are invited to participate!

Prompts are generally the same as last year, but in addition to new song prompts, we've added a twist: A set of Mini Challeneges that you can mix, match, combine, and layer on to each day's theme, however you feel inspired. Mini Challenges are listed below the daily prompts.

Friday, June 24- Theme: Omegaverse Dynamics - It’s an A/B/O world

Our cast of Roswell characters, but Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics are a factor. Maybe it’s the aliens. Maybe it’s the humans with the A/B/O genders and our beloved aliens are trying to fly under the radar. Maybe it’s everyone! Maybe they’re in an AU setting, or right at home in Roswell. Lean into the tropes, or invert them- but no matter what, it’s time for some A/B/O trope to crash land in fandom!

Sunday, June 26 - Theme: Mating Bonds, Imprinting, and Alien Biology

Dig into how alien biology might factor into Omegaverse tropes. Is there Knotting? Fluids? Mating Bonds? Breeding kinks? Are there Eggs? Probing? Evolutionary changes to mate in Zero G? What does the scent of rain mean? How does it all work ? Let’s get creative and let our freak flags fly!

 “Drabble Challenge”- take us on the themed journey in a Drabble, or a similarly short-form format

“Trope Inversion”- whatever the rules are supposed to be, a character or the world itself changes things up

“Clown Car”- just how many characters can make an appearance in your work…and in what capacities?

“Rare Pair”- feature a pairing that doesn’t appear all that often 

“Thirst” - be extra thirsty, set a thirst trap (or have a character do the same)

RNM Heat Weekend (@rnmheat) came and went… I feel bad because I had three fics I was working on in the hope of being able to share something because I do very much love the idea of exploring omegaverse tropes in particular… I had three a/b/o fics in the works but nothing that’s ready to be shared.

Fic 1 was started last year and was intended to be shared as part of Heat Weekend 2021 but the fic got away from me & is currently sitting at 35k words with no ending in sight just yet.

Fic 2 is an absolute guilty pleasure of mine which I actually started as a birthday present to myself but didn’t finish in time to post on my actual birthday (cough *april*). It currently has a small count of 6k words but is potentially the closest to being completed.

Fic 3 was something I started in a mass panic once I realized fic 1 & fic 2 wouldn’t be ready to post for the event… I did my usual cheat of taking a fic I wrote for a different fandom, changing the characters names and ‘refurbishing’ it as an RNM fic. However, the OG fic was a mere 3.5k words and the RNM version has grown to 8k and could potentially reach 15k depending on how/where the characters take me.

It makes me very sad to not have something to share. I hope to one day soon inflict some very unnecessary and unwanted ship fic upon y’all!

Isobel walks into the Pony, slides onto a stool. Maria immediately starts pouring her a drink. Whether she drinks it or not, the drink- Becky tax included- is going on her tab. It’s not the top shelf stuff, just something decent. Better mark up.

Isobel drinks it down without flinching.

“The City Council voted down the shelter expansion.”

“You knew they would.” Maria reminds her. “You’re the one who told me what a long shot it was. A safe space for women, omegas, queer teens? With this town’s tax dollars?” She snorts.

“Exactly. These assholes like charity. Capitalism. So I got them to approve the new location if I could find it with private funds. And then I got Mayor Burhardt, Mr. Long, and most of the other council member to agree to 300% match the donations from their own funds.”

“How did you…” Maria narrows her eyes.

“I’m very persuasive,” Isobel says airily. “Anyway. Here’s what I want you to do. I want you to let me host the event here at the Pony. I want you to charge me a truly extravagant fee for the privilege of doing so. And then I want you to turn around and- whether as a family favor, the chance to stick it to the man, because you believe in the cause, or all three- I want you to turn around and donate the entire fee, just so they have to match it.”

Maria narrows her eyes, calculating

“Deal,” she finally says, offering one elegant hand for a shake. “But I’m putting the wholesale cost of the booze on your tab.”

“Yep, this is her,” Alex said, holding up the little pod so Mimi could take it and coo sweet nothings at it.

“Wild,” Rosa said, and the tone of her voice was clear that it was a compliment. “Maria, you hatch out of one of these?”

“No, we did it the old-fashioned way,” Mimi said, voice completely deadpan, broken only by cooing at the pod again, “lab cloning.”
