The LLF continues its mission to honor the best and the brightest in the ever-changing and evolving music and entertainment industries. The foundation’s core mission is to honor pioneers and professionals who have broken new ground in the areas of broadcasting, recorded music, marketing, retail, publicity, publishing, digital, creative, and philanthropy.
“The Living Legends Board of Directors is proud to continue its tradition of recognizing the greatest in the music and record industries,” says David C. Linton, Chairman of the LLF. “We continue to raise the bar and celebrate the unsung heroes of our industry who have helped to lay the foundation for black music, black artists, and black executives of the 20th and 21st century. We remain steadfast in our efforts to raise much-needed funds to assist the less fortunate among us. We look forward to another exceptional event and year.”
In 1991, record industry pioneer Ray Harris had the vision for an organization that would not only salute the achievements of black music executives but would assist them in their time of need. During the same year, Harris worked with record executives Barbara Lewis and C.C. Evans and radio programming legend, the late Jerry Boulding, and founded the Living Legends Foundation.
Over the years, the organization has recognized and honored more than 100 distinguished leaders in music, radio, retail, and media. Past honorees include, in alphabetical order: Brenda Andrews, Larkin Arnold, Clarence Avant, Lee Bailey, Big Boy, Jamie Brown, Troy Carter, Ray Chew and Vivian Scott Chew, Keith Clinkscales, Kenny Gamble, Jack “The Rapper” Gibson, Tony Gray, Ethiopia Habtemariam, Jeffrey Harleston, Denise Brown Henderson, Esq., Stephen Hill, Leon Huff, Cathy Hughes, Don Jackson, Hal Jackson, Larry Jackson, Cynthia Johnson, Varnell Johnson, Quincy Jones, Larry Khan, Morace Landy, Vicki Mack Lataillade and Claude Lataillade, Miller London, Michael Mauldin, Rushion McDonald, Kendall Minter, Esq., Jon Platt, Gwendolyn Quinn, Pat Shields, Eddie Sims and Belinda Wilson, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Ruben Rodriguez, Aundrae Russell, Herb Trawick, Charles Warfield, Dr. Logan H. Westbrooks, Tyrone Williams, and numerous others.
The LLF is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization and has been funded primarily with corporate contributions and individual donations. The 28-year-old organization has expanded its mission to assist those who have served the music industry and who have a confirmable need. This assistance is provided in a manner that maintains the dignity of those who may receive financial help. Many former music industry employees worked during a time when 401Ks and retirement packages were not available—and even today, in this era of downsizing and mergers, the industry’s lack of long-term career stability has become more commonplace. Proceeds from the event will enable the LLF to continue to aid those in need, as well as fund the Living Legends Foundation Scholarship Program, which helps the educational pursuits of the next generation of music makers and marketers at three HBCUs.
The LLF Officers and Board Members include Chairman David Linton, Chairman Emeritus and founder Ray Harris, President Varnell Johnson, Vice-President Jacqueline Rhinehart, Recording Secretary Pat Shields, founder and Treasurer C.C. Evans, and General Counsel Kendall Minter, Esq. Board Members include Vinny Brown, Sheila Eldridge, Marcus Grant, Tony Gray, Ken Johnson, Barbara Lewis, Miller London, Sidney Miller, Kathi Moore, Jon Platt, Gwendolyn Quinn, Sam Weaver, and Colleen Wilson.
The Living Legends Foundation Advisory Board includes a list of distinguished entertainment executives, including Monica Alexander, Don Cody, George Daniels, Brad Davidson, Michael Dawson, Esq., Skip Dillard, Kevin Fleming, Shannon Henderson, Jay Johnson, James Leach, Vicki Mack Lataillade, Gail Mitchell, Azim Rashid, Lionel Ridenour, Kevin Ross, A.J. Savage, Vivian Scott Chew, Phil Thornton, Brian Wallace, Irene Ware, Tyrone Williams, Buzzy Willis, and Tony Winger.

Austin, TX – (February 3, 2019) The Austin Film Society (AFS) announced two honorees for the Texas Film Hall of Fame: filmmaker John Lee Hancock (The Highwaymen, The Blind Side, The Rookie) and Office Space, in honor of its 20th year anniversary. John Lee Hancock and Office Space writer/director Mike Judge will attend to accept their awards at the 2019 Texas Film Awards on Thursday, March 7, 2019. The annual event will take place at the AFS Cinema, with a red carpet followed by an intimate reception, dinner, and awards ceremony in AFS Cinema’s Event Hall.
Texas born and raised filmmaker John Lee Hancock is best known for writing and directing The Blind Side, which was nominated in 2010 for Best Picture at the Oscars and garnered an Academy Award for Sandra Bullock’s performance. He also directed The Rookie, starring Dennis Quaid, Rachel Griffiths, and Brian Cox; The Founder, starring Michael Keaton; and Saving Mr. Banks, starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. Hancock’s latest film, The Highwaymen, stars Kevin Costner, Woody Harrelson, and Kathy Bates and tells the untold true story of the legendary Texas Rangers who brought down Bonnie and Clyde. The film will premiere at SXSW and will launch globally on Netflix on March 29, 2019.

Winner of a Primetime Emmy in 1999 for King of the Hill, Judge is also known for his film Idiocracy, the animated series Beavis and Butt-Head, and his current hit show, HBO’s Emmy-winning Silicon Valley.

AFS also recently announced they will honor actress and entrepreneur Brooklyn Decker with the Rising Star Award at the 2019 Texas Film Awards.

The 2018 Trends You’ll Be Falling For This Season
Tumblr media
Fall fashion runway during Austin Fashion Week in Austin, Texas. Photo by Naomi Richard.
         By: Valencia King
As someone who is not a ‘celebrity’ I feel as though I am not alone in saying, sometimes the celebs just don’t get the fashion trends right. However, this season, I think they’ve got it down packed! The number one trend we are seeing this fall can be described in one word - COMFORT! As you’ll see down below, comfort doesn’t mean you’re wearing a lazy outfit. You don’t have to worry about your co-workers saying “You look tired…” every other day. These celebs are making a statement all while remaining chilled. Let’s get started!
Tumblr media
Angela Rye is a Lawyer, the CEO of Impact Strategies and a highly sought after Political Commentator. Ms. Rye has no time to ever look lazy, but she makes time for comfort even while speaking at the 48th Annual Congressional Black Caucus Conference. In this look Rye is wearing a two piece suit by Cushnie. This black suit has tassel embellishments on the arms of the blazer and slits on the pants to accent the Yves Saint Laurent heels she is wearing. This look is styled by Jason Rembert.

Performing Artist Halsey is also rocking a hot yet cozy look getting ready for the fall. Halsey stepped out in a collaborative outfit between the Tom Wood jacket, the Danielle Guizo over-sized slacks and the Calvin Klein heels. This look is everything you would want in a monochromatic look. Monochromatic looks say: "I didn't work this hard to match...or did I?" Halsey adds the pop of color with a simple silver and shimmery bra-let.

If you've ever seen a photo of Kylie Jenner, you know she never looks anything but AMAZING! Literally, no matter what she wears - It's so not fair! The young Jenner and fairly new mom is seen here wearing an Adidas outfit with the new drop of FALCON (the Shoe.) It's no surprise as Jenner is an ambassador with Adidas but still, this look is so FLY all while keeping it comfortable.

Comfort isn't only for the physically fit, it is can also be for your financial budget! The popular clothing line on Instagram is Fashionnova. Actress Parker McKenna Posey, who stole our hearts on the hit TV Show 'My Wife & Kids', is seen here in a cute graphic tee crop top from Fashionnova. Parker pars the top with an extra comfy overall set from Champions. She ties it all together with a classic pair of sneakers!

Okay, go with me here. Model Jasmine Sanders is pictured three times because she just GETS IT!
Look one: Sanders is wearing a two piece track suit from P.E Nation. By the name P.E Nation, you can probably guess that it's an active-street wear clothing line. The complete look is styled by Elizabeth Sulcer who pairs the outfit with a simple sleek black stiletto heel.
Look two: as mentioned earlier with Parker and the more affordable clothing options, Sanders is wearing another hot, trendy and comfy track suit by Tommy Hilfiger.
Look three: Green is a year round color, just depending on the shade and this dress by Dundas is definitely on the fall shade of green. Again Sanders owns this entire look by letting the dress and her stunning legs shine. Hair, makeup hand bag, all simple non-threatening accessories styled together by Elizabeth Sulcer.
Of course, with fashion there are plenty of times when beauty is pain. From uncomfortable shoes (flats and heels) to shirts that don't allow you to lift up your arms to pants that are so cute but too short or too long. The worst pants scenario is when they fit like a glove everywhere except the waist!
With everything that comes in the fashion world, it's nice to have a popular trend that allows us to be comfortable while still staying unique to our style. Comfort doesn't mean ugly, lazy or with zero effort. Comfort is fashion!

STEP INTO SPRING ON THE RIGHT FOOT - WITH THE PERFECT TRENDS!
Tumblr media
          By Valencia King
While some of us are already in the midst of spring and can see summer coming around the corner, many of us are still lost in the seasons. But – no matter where you’re living you can head into summer looking flawless with these 2018 Fashion Trends!
          Summer Hair DO’s: Top Knots
Singer, dancer, model and all around Fashionista Ciara is seen here with two top messy buns. While this style is easy to do – it allows you to look like you had to book an appointment with your hair stylist months ago to ‘Get The Look!’ Ciara added two bangs to frame her face, which gives this look a cute boost.

           Summer Heel DO’s: Chunky Heels
Ladies and Gentlemen we all LOVE a Stiletto Heel! Don’t get me wrong; those will NEVER go out of style. However, it’s okay to embrace something different – The Chunky Heel. Don’t think of the chunky heel as ‘less sexy’ or ‘it doesn’t go with my look.’ It’s not always about what kind of heel you’re wearing but more about how you wear it. If you walk with confidence, then every piece of your outfit will match that confidence and look fierce. These are just a few styles of the chunky heel that mix bold colors with bolder prints. Chunky Heels DON’T have to be basic.

      Summer Dress DO’s:
For ‘Summer Dress Do’s,’ check out the styles below that are certain to make your wardrobe Stand Out in the crowd!
Dress 1 gives a new flirty look to the original style of Overalls. Dress 2 brings us a pop of summer color with a sexy neck detailing an off the shoulder design. Dress 3 continues with the summer colors and is my personal favorite. Dress 3 can be dressed down with a pair of fashionable sneakers and worn to the first cook out of 2018 or it can be dressed up with one of those pairs of chunky heels. Dress 4 is a classic off white dress with a high rise to show your sexy leg in the summer sunlight!

          Summer Purse DO’s
Now we have the outfit, the shoes and the hairstyle – so what’s left? The finishing accessory, of course! Let’s take a look at what purse or bag you can rock with one of you summer fits.
Purse 1 is the most ‘trendy’ of them all – it’s the updated fanny pack meets a simple clutch. Personally, this purse comes in handy for all those summer activities you have coming up where your everyday bag would just slow you down. Purse 2 is more on the sleek side; it’s a clear bag with a firm handle that adds a touch of character.
Purse 3 can be your everyday purse for summer 2018. It’s versatile with the hand length strap and the shoulder strap to match your summer mood for the day. I also love that purse 3 isn’t too big of a bag yet it can hold your summer essentials. Ladies, I know I’m not alone in having a whole grocery list of items in my purse! Lastly, Purse 4 is the new substitute for your old summer backpack. Leave that at home and grab this fun beach style bag that is made for all of the outdoor events on your summer 2018 calendar!

Kate Spade
     By: Valencia King
Fashion designer Kate Spade died on June 6 and according to the New York Police Department, the cause of death was suicide. Spade, found deceased in her New York City home, was the founder of her namesake brand, known for its accessory collections of handbags and jewelry. The company was founded in 1991.

When news reports announced Spade’s untimely death, it wasn’t just the ‘fashion industry’ that felt the loss. An outpour of love, grief and beautiful memories came from women across the world. Social media alone was in a frenzy, yet in a moment of sadness those who loved Kate Spade were able to come together.
In Spade’s honor we now highlight not just the talents that she offered to the world but also take time to remember how strong she made women feel every single day. Here are a few of the social media posts that cherish Spade’s memory:
          ·      Mindy Kaling (actress, comedian and writer) took to twitter to share what simply wearing designs by Spade meant to her.
Tumblr media
            ·      Olivia Munn (actress & model) tweeted out how the first purse she ever owned was a design by Spade.
Tumblr media
          ·      Bryce D. Howard (Actress, producer and director) posted a heart felt message on her Instagram where she sent her love to Spade’s family and let her Instagram followers know that there is help available if any of them are suffering with unhealthy thoughts.
Tumblr media
         ·      Lena Dunham (producer, director, actress) reflects on the love that New York City alone had and will continue to have for Spade.
Tumblr media
               ·      These first social media post have been from ‘celebrities’ however, Spade’s inspirational designs knew no limits. Chelsea Clinton says it was Spade’s designs that created a great memory of her own grandmother.
Tumblr media
               ·      Janelle Monae (Singer, actress and director) has been seen several times in designs by Spade; she left a loving message via twitter.
Tumblr media
              ·      Kanye West (artist, fashion designer, director) spreads a message of ‘loving everyone’ – includi tweet about the passing of Spade.
Tumblr media
With just this handful of social media posts, the impact from fashion icon Kate Spade is evident. Spade was able to be a light for those who delighted in her fashions. Her vibrant patterns and styles were unique and encouraged those who wore them to stay true to who you are!
Spade used her light as a torch to light the path as she marched forth to make ‘women being at the top of the fashion industry’ a major priority. She will be missed but more importantly, she will be remembered!

Monday’s Telecast Begins Themed Weeks, Starting With Personal and Emotional “Story of the Song”
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — April 22, 2018 — Three-time Grammy Award-winning multiplatinum band Maroon 5, led by frontman and coach Adam Levine, will perform their new single, “Wait,” from their latest album, “Red Pill Blues,” on the April 24 (8-9 p.m.) live telecast of NBC’s four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series “The Voice.”
In addition, 11 of the Top 12 artists — Sharane Calister, Rayshun LaMarr and Jackie Verna from Team Adam; Britton Buchanan, Christiana Danielle and Jackie Foster from Team Alicia; Pryor Baird, Spensha Baker and Kyla Jade from Team Blake; and Brynn Cartelli, D.R. King and Kaleb Lee from Team Kelly — will learn they are moving on in their quest of winning season 14.
Maroon 5 stands out as not only one of pop music’s most enduring artists, but also one of the 21st century’s biggest acts. To date, the universally renowned Los Angeles band has won three Grammys and become the most successful group in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 with 12 Top 10 entries, registered 20 Top 40 hits (making them the only band to ever do so), sold over 36 million albums, and earned gold and platinum certifications in more than 35 countries.

The band won over fans and critics alike with the hybrid rock/R&B sound they introduced on their debut album, “Songs About Jane,” and their double-platinum album, “It Won't Be Soon Before Long.” Maroon 5 went on to release studio albums “Hands All Over,” which featured the anthemic “Moves Like Jagger,” and “Overexposed.” The band’s fifth studio album, “V,” debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart and featured #1 hit singles “Maps,” “Animals” and “Sugar,” helping to set a record for the most #1’s by a group in the Top 40 chart’s 20-year history, with nine in total. The music video for the album’s Grammy-nominated single “Sugar” has notably logged a record setting 2+ billion views to date.
Maroon 5’s released their sixth studio album, “Red Pill Blues,” in late 2017 via 222/Interscope. The debut single off the album, “What Lovers Do” (feat. SZA), introduced the band’s latest body of work with a proverbial bang, accumulating more than 485 million Spotify streams and 208 million YouTube/VEVO views. The band’s new single is the highly anticipated track “Wait,” which has quickly climbed up the Top 40 and Hot AC radio charts and already clocked over 113 million Spotify streams. The first leg of the band’s world tour will kick off May 30 with special guest Julia Michaels.
On the Monday, April 23 live telecast (8-10 p.m.), “The Voice” will debut special themed weeks, starting with “Story of the Song,” during which artists will reveal the story of what their song means to them — special memories, significant life moments and covering artists who have inspired them.
