Mel Brooks hat mit 95 beschlossen, seine Memoiren zu schreiben, weil alle Leute, die er kannte, jetzt tot sind. Im Wesentlichen erzählt er die besten Witze aus seinen Werken nach und schwärmt, wie wunderbar die Arbeit mit seinen Kollegen daran war. Ist jetzt für seine Verhältnisse ungewöhlich geschmackvoll und wenig bissig, aber in seinem Alter darf man das und Altersmilde ist ja, worauf es im Leben wirklich ankommt.

Das Ende des Universums kann von einem in einer nahegelegenen Zeitblase gelegegenen Restaurant allabentlich in seiner ganzen Schönheit genossen werden.

Sibylle Bergs nahe Zukunft ist die stilistisch ausgefeilteste, sie ist unserer Gegenwart am ähnlichsten und deshalb die schrecklichste. Doch ein Paar tapfere Hacker retten die Menschlichkeit. Das sieht ihr wieder ähnlich.

Mit dem schönen Konzept der Republik geht es auch zu Ende, weil der an sich wohlmeinende Julius Caesar sich doch zu einem ziemlichen Diktator entwickelt. Unter dem Einfluss dieses ägyptischen Flittchens natürlich! Der Roman ist komplett aus authentischen Briefen und Dokumenten zusammenstellt, die Thornton Wilder erfunden hat.

Im Berlin der frühen 30er-Jahre geht es auch mit dem schönen Konzept der Republik zu Ende. Der junge Engländer William Bradshaw, der gewisse Ähnlichkeit mit den Brians, Cliff oder Mr. Issiwoos aus anderen Varianten des Berlinaufenthalts des Autors sind (diesmal sind es seine beiden Mittelnamen) lernt einen interessanten Schmuggler im Zug kennen und zieht dann natürlich bei Frl. Schneider ein. Das wollte ich der Ordnung halber (und einmal mehr als Vorbereitung für’s Musiktehater) auch mal gelesen haben.
