"According to a recent report published by the Aargauer Zeitung (h/t Golem.de), around three million smart toothbrushes have been infected by hackers and enslaved into botnets. The source report says this sizable army of connected dental cleansing tools was used in a DDoS attack on a Swiss company’s website. The firm’s site collapsed under the strain of the attack, reportedly resulting in the loss of millions of Euros of business."

SCAM ALERT: Cryptocurrency related but can affect trans people buying HRT. I was probably 10 seconds away from having money stolen and I know what I'm doing. (Crypto Clipper)
Today I was helping a trans friend order some DIY HRT. A lot of DIY HRT places only accept cryptocurrency for security reasons. I am not looking to promote cryptocurrency or anything associated with it, but if you may be forced to use it for HRT or other reasons, you need to know this.
In general if you are forced to use crypto, you should use the cheapest coin your supplier will accept. If it is cheap, that means there is not a lot of activity on the chain and energy use will be less. I used one called Zcash as it was the cheapest one the site accepted but that's not really relevant.
I used an old coinbase account I had used for similar situations in the past. I was doing it on her PC. I got the instructions to pay on the HRT site, and I pasted the wallet address into Coinbase and just before I hit send I noticed the wallet address I had pasted didn't match the wallet address I had copied.
I looked it up and found this is from a form of malware called a Crypto Clipper, that detects when you have copied a crypto address, and makes you paste a different one so it can steal your money. I am lucky I noticed. To remedy it, I installed the free trial of Malwarebytes on her PC to remove malware, and completed the crypto transaction on my PC, and confirmed that the wallet address matched what the HRT site had given me.
I managed to avoid falling for it but it's such an easy thing to fall for, especially if you have avoided crypto thus far for extremely understandable reasons. Be careful out there! It could happen to anyone.

SIMS 4 MOD MALWARE
This isn't what I usually post about, but theres been malware from sims 4 mods. Specifiallly from mods hosted onCurseforge, TheSimsResource, and ModTheSims. It's a lot like the Minecraft Fractureiser virus. The downloaded mod's contain .EXE files that steal personal data and harm computers. The current known infected mods:
"To recap, here are the mods we know for sure were affected by the recent malware outbreak: "Cult Mod v2" uploaded to ModTheSims by PimpMySims (impostor account) "Social Events - Unlimited Time" uploaded to CurseForge by MySims4 (single-use account) "Weather and Forecast Cheat Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account) "Seasons Cheats Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account) "Motherlode Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account) "Mood Cheat Menu" uploaded to The Sims Resource by MSQSIMS (hacked, real account) "Mouth Preset N16" uploaded to The Sims Resource by PlayersWonderland (hacked, real account)" -copied from the sims after dark server!
I'm horrible at explaining but please go check out this post on reddit, run an anti-virus scan if you downloaded any recent sims 4 mods, and perhaps join the sims after dark discord server.

Please for the love of all that is holy STOP USING FREE VPNS. You know that adage about how, "If a service is free, you're the product?" It's extremely true, particularly when it comes to free VPNs.
A 2016 study of Android VPNs found that:
75% of free VPNs use 3rd-party tracking software
38% of free VPNs contain code flagged as malware
19% tunnel your data through FULLY UNENCRYPTED CONNECTIONS
84% of all VPNs were leaking IPv6 traffic
66% of all VPNs were leaking DNS traffic
4 of the VPNs tested were ACTIVELY DOING TLS INJECTIONS
You are straight up better off trusting your ISP with your traffic data than some random VPN you found and downloaded from the internet. Using no VPN is far far safer than using a free VPN whose whole profit model is built off selling your information.

Just once, I want someone to set up a whole creepypasta of some sort about a malevolent AI or glitch monster or something like that and then just make an actual fucking computer virus to simulate it. Like, you download the super-spooky kirby.exe game and start playing it on your pc and hyper-realistic Meta Knight starts editing your computer files in genuinely potentially devastating ways. Like Doki Doki Literature Club or IMSCARED if the creators of those games weren't fucking cowards. I want that shit to legally be considered malware.
