The future King Albert I and Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians.
Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna the Elder had allegedly hoped that her daughter, Elena Vladimirovna, might marry the then-Prince Albert, heir to his uncle King Leopold II's throne. But before a visit to Russia could be arranged, the Belgian prince announced his engagement to Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria, a niece of the famous Sisi. Funnily enough, Elena's middle daughter Elizabeth of Greece would grow up to marry a nephew of Queen Elisabeth's, Karl Theodor zu Toerring Jettenbach, the eldest son of Queen Elisabeth's sister Sophie.

May I ask who were the possible royal suitors of OTMA and A lexei
Hello!
As I know to Olga there was Prince Ioann Konstantinovich, King Carol II of Romania, King Edward VIII of U.K and King Alexander I of yugoslavia. Some sources also speak about King George VI of U.K and Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich. There was also Grand Duke Constantine Constantinovich (he had a crush on her) and Grand Duke Boris Vladimirovich. Prince Christopher of Greece loved her and tried to marry her but Nicholas declined the offer.
To Tatiana there was King Alexander I of Yugoslavia (sources said the he was in love with her), King George VI of U.K and Prince Adalbert of Bavaria.
To Maria there was Prince Louis of Battenberg. King Carol II of Romania asked for her hand but Nicholas declined.
To Anastasia, some sources speak about King Leopold III of Belgium.
Boris of Bulgaria, Peter of Montenegro and Prince Arthur (son of Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught) were also mentioned as possible husbands for the girls.
As for Alexei there was Ileana of Romania, Princess Ingrid (she became Queen of Denmark). Others princesses of Norway and Greece were mentioned too.

The Royal House of Belgium boasts two bouncing boys who may almost be said to have emerged from babyhood. The elder, Prince Leopold, is nearly five, while his brother, Prince Charles, is on the brink of three. They are the children of Prince Albert, King Leopold's nephew and heir. When little Leopold was christened even the somewhat stolid Belgians who do not care much for State functions, were moved and assembled their thousands round the church of St. Jacques-sur-Caudenberg. Both Prince Albert and his lovely Bavarian Consort are extremely popular in Belgium. Little Leopold was only a month old when he figured as the hero of a most charming little ceremony. His mother superintends a charitable organization for children's country holidays, and the mothers of these children presented to her Royal Highness a Brussels lace cushion. During the ceremony, the baby Prince was brought in, and his father laughingly observed that he was already a gallant, for finding himself in the presence of so many ladies he resolutely refrained from crying.
The Princes Leopold and Charles have a cousin, also named Prince Leopold who is five and a half, and has a baby brother named Albert, after his Belgian uncle. Their mother, Princess Rupert, is a younger sister of Princess Albert of Belgium, and they belong to the ducal House of Bavaria; but Prince Rupert of course, is in the line of succession to the Bavarian throne.

Press Release by Prince Leopold
Dear Russians,
Who is to say the Bolsheviks will provide the food or stability you long for? The failure of the RPG and the fact that there is a revolution shows instability of Russia. Do you really put your trust in these two options for regimes? The Kingdom of Bavaria and its alliance with UK, US, Austria-Hungary, advocating for the true goal of stability of Europe are willing to get rid of all radical ideas or desirability within Russia. Put the World War aside and rise together with the great forces to restore Russia under the supervision much more stable government of AARR. The people will speak and I, Prince Leopold, will listen.

In 1915, when large territories came under Ober Ost 's administration as a result of military successes on the Eastern Front, Erich Ludendorff, von Hindenburg's second in command, set up a system of managing the large area now under its jurisdiction. They constructed railroads but only Germans were allowed to ride them and schools were taught by German instructors, since they lacked trained Lithuanians. They also tried to "civilize" the people in the Ober Ost-controlled land, attempting to integrate German ideals and institutions with existing cultures. One was not allowed to move between the districts, which destroyed the livelihood of many merchants and prevented indigenous people from visiting friends and relatives in neighboring districts. The movement policy or Verkehrspolitik, divided the land without regard to the existing social and ethnic organization and patterns. Ober Ost ruled the land with an iron fist. Ober Ost itself controlled present-day Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, Poland, and Courland. The military Ober Ost government from then on controlled only the conquered areas east and north of central Poland.Īfter the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk of March 1918, the German Empire effectively controlled Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, parts of Poland, and Courland, all of which had been part of the Russian Empire. Accordingly, the German Empire established the Government General of Warsaw and the Austro-Hungarian Empire set up the Government General of Lublin. When the Chief of the General Staff Erich von Falkenhayn was dismissed from office by the Kaiser in August 1916, Hindenburg took over at the General Staff, and Prince Leopold of Bavaria took control of the Ober Ost.īy October 1915, the Imperial German Army had advanced so far to the east that central Poland could be put under a civil administration. Ober Ost was set up by Kaiser Wilhelm II in November 1914, initially came under the command of Paul von Hindenburg, a Prussian general who had come out of retirement to achieve the German victory of the Battle of Tannenberg in August 1914 and became a national hero.

1898. 17 September. Castle chapel again. Mass. I was drawn to her with power... I wished that she might now have found what she so bitterly doubted - the loving mercy filled me cold again under the torrent of her eloquent pain.
Funeral at 4 o'clock. Papa [Emperor Franz Josef] had been in the castle since the morning and had not spared himself the task of receiving the foreign rulers. He came with Emperor Wilhelm to the Capuchins. Protected by the thick veils, we were spared most of the banal condolences. Enough were those who wept from the heart. Many - Uncle Louis! [Duke Ludwig in Bavaria, Empress Elisabeth's older brother] "I can't forbid the poor devil to come," Papa had said, and it moved the poor uncle. Deeply it awakened memories of old times in me too, when he came to me with the plea: "Only let me stand with you, only stay there beside you." (...) Papa with Leopold [Prince of Bavaria, Archduchess Gisela's husband] and Franz [Valerie's husband], Georg [Gisela and Leopold's son] and Mama's two brothers escorted the coffin down.
Then that was over too and we returned to Schönbrunn for a sad dinner, which was also attended by the King [Albert I] of Saxony.
Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria (1998). Das Tagebuch der Lieblingstochter von Kaiserin Elisabeth (1878-1899) (Translation done by DeepL. Please keep in mind that in a machine translation a lot of nuances may/will be lost)
Curiously, the edition of Valerie's diary that I have notes that "Only Carl Theodor and Max Emanuel, but not Ludwig, escorted their sister's coffin to the crypt". Which is not possible because Duke Max Emanuel had been dead for over five years at that point. The "two brothers" Valerie mentions therefore were Ludwig and Karl Theodor.

OTMAA contemporaries: Leopold of Belgium and Luitpold of Bavaria with family.
The family of Duke Karl Theodor in Bavaria including what should have been two future kings. Both little princes were born in 1901, the same year as Anastasia Nikolaevna. Leopold, the fair-haired child standing on his grandmother’s lap, was the eldest son of King Albert of the Belgians (standing in the back) and Elisabeth, Duchess in Bavaria. Luitpold, the child on the ground being cuddled by his mother, was the eldest son of Elisabeth’s sister, Marie Gabrielle, and Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria.
Leopold would indeed grow up to be King Leopold III, but Luitpold died in 1914 of polio.

This is a letter King Maximilian Joseph of Bavaria wrote to Berthier after Alexandre’s younger brother Leopold had died of a disease contracted during the Prussian campaign.
Munich, 15 April 1807
Yes, my dear friend, we share your just sorrow. The Queen thanks you for the justice you do to her feelings for you. We have been very much occupied with you, dear Prince, all these days. It is cruel to lose a brother and a friend at the same time, and in the prime of life. A man like you should never grieve. You deserve every happiness imaginable.
Your courier arrived last night. Please thank the Emperor for the kindness he has for the old Baron von Moltke, and for the flags and cannons of Breslau. I will send you an officer shortly. I want to send you one who is worthy of your kindness.
Farewell, my dear Marshal. My wishes and my friendship will accompany you as long as I live.
Max Joseph.
If my son does anything foolish, please inform me at once.
I particularly love the postcript. (”As you’re the babysitter for everybody at the army anyway, could you have an eye on Ludwig as well?”)

The marriage of Archduchess Gisela, eldest child of the Emperor and Empress of Austria, to Prince Leopold of Bavaria, a first cousin of King Ludwig II, the reigning Sovereign of Bavaria, has been mentioned with other foreign news. It is not supposed to be an even of great political importance, as it might have seemed a few years ago, before the reconstruction of the German Empire under the King of Prussia, when the victory of the allied national forces, in the French war of 1870, over a common enemy, had completed the work of political union somewhat roughly commenced in 1866 by the Prussian conquest of several minor states and the expulsion of Austria from the late Germanic Confederation. Though Prince Leopold of Bavaria is a son of one of the chief opponents of the recent changes in Germany, there is little expectation of his ever being inclined or enabled to use his connection with the Emperor Francis Joseph, his father-in-law, for the purpose of reversing policy to which Bavaria, as well as Saxony, Wurtemberg, Baden, and Hesse-Darmstadt, has adhered in compliance with the national sentiment. The marriage, which took place at Vienna on the 20th ult. Is regarded as one of personal affection and family conveniences rather than as a pledge or token of joint action between Austria and Bavaria in affairs concerning the general interests of Germany, which have probably little to fear, at this time, from jealousy or resentment on the part of the Austrian Government. By the goodnatured people of Vienna, who are frankly affectionate in their loyalty, and fond o fthe grand old house of Hapsburg-Lorraine, so long reigning over them, this occasion was hailed with great festivity, their minds not being wholly engrossed with the approaching event of the Universal Exhibition. The nuptial ceremony was performed in the Augustine church of the Imperial Palace, by Cardinal Rauscher, who had married the bride's parents, the Emperor and Empress of Austria, nineteen years before, April 24, 1854. The Empress Elizabeth, herself is a relative of the bridegroom, being a daughter of the Bavarian Duke Maximilian belonging to the Palatinate branch of the house of Wittelsbach, wile the Royal family of Bavaria is the elder line of that house. The two houses of Hapsburg and Wittelsbach have frequently intermarried; and the latter has also connected itself with many petty sovereignties now extinct in Italy, Greece, and Germany, whose former incumbents live in retirement on their private estates in Southern Europe. Prince Luitpold, father of Prince Leopold, is a  distinguished Bavarian statesman and military officer, whose wife, deceased in 1864, was a daughter of the late Grand Duke Leopold of Tuscany. Their second son, Leopold Maximilian Joseph Maria Adolphus was born at Munich in February, 1846; he is a good soldier, a captain of horse artillery, and served under General von der Tann in the French war. His bride, Archduchess Gisela Louisa Maria, was born July 12, 1856, so that she is not yet seventeen years of age, and is younger by ten years than her husband. They are residing at Salzburg during the honeymoon
