1) Gail Dines is definitely terf adjacent if not a straight terf

2)I would actually be quite interested in her thoughts on, say, the TikTok algorithm censoring the word ‘lesbian’ or ‘sex’ and the rise of puriteens

3)I’m in various group chats with other mostly-women talking about how much we want to see men in erotic peril, which I definitely don’t think she even considers as a possibility

I'm starting a radical feminist literature podcast!!

It's called "Radical Feminist Reads" and there are currently two episodes available on Spotify! In the future I hope to be available on more platforms, but since I have literally no experience with podcasting and started this yesterday, that's still a work in progress. You can find the first episode here!

The first work I'm reading is Dworkin's Right-Wing Women. I'm hoping to finish that in the next few days before moving to a weekly upload schedule - probably every Sunday or Monday. After RWW, I'll be reading Pornland by Gail Dines, and then - we'll see!! I'll put a poll at the bottom with some popular texts to see if there's any preference.

Also - I feel it's important to mention that I am absolutely not profiting off of this in any way. It's just something I wanted to do to increase accessibility to feminist texts!

Progressives have, for good reason, singled out the media as a major form of (mis)education in the age of monopoly capitalism in which a few companies dominate the market and use their economic and political power to deliver messages that sell a particular worldview that legitimizes massive economic and social inequality. But many of these same progressives argue against the view that porn has an effect on men in the real world, preferring instead to call anti-porn feminists unsophisticated thinkers who don't appreciate how images can be playful and open to numerous interpretations. So now we are in a somewhat strange place where people who argue that mainstream corporate media have the power to shape, mold, influence, manipulate, and seduce viewers simultaneously deny that porn has an effect on their consumers.

I would suggest picking a book that sounds interesting and using the footnotes and bibliography to find more to read. I've done that a lot :) a lot of my books have more sticky tabs or w/e in the bibliography than in the text so I don't lose stuff I'm interested in.

Come think of it, I never actually finished reading Pornland; I blame it on Hot Girls Wanted, which highlighted the problems with Pornland, most notably that Dines never spoke with a porn performer, only citing the Jenna Jameson's book, but also things like the fact that she barely addresses the subject of race, that she looks at magazines but doesn't analyze the content, doesn't talk to men either, or with mental health professionals

It's just one lady looking at porn and saying "this is bad"

I feel like I'm going insane with the gaslighting.

I'm 7 pages into the INTRODUCTION of Dines's Pornland and I'm nauseous. It's so obvious and blatant that it's all about woman hating, but society at large says that p*rn in general is not bad and the vast majority of scrote use it so how could they possibly think of us as human? They can't.
