Ancient Magic

In this short story, Phineas Hearst is trying to find his place at Hogwarts. He struggles to do so as he is already falling behind and is struggling to cast a handful of charms as well as his other peers. However, he discovers an ability he never knew he possessed while wandering around Hogwarts and has a run in with the Professor of Magical Theory who is equally fascinated by his discoveries

Phineas never was able to learn magic as quick as other people his age. Especially when it came to new innovations for the magical arts such as recently invented spells. There was just something that never really clicked with him.

Then again, he did not even know what he was thinking. Lumos was far from a recently invented spell considering it was invented over a hundred years ago according to the lectures of Professor Ronen. Yet whereas everyone else was able to light the tips of their wands by the end of the class where it was first taught, there was not even a single spark on Phineas’ wand. He was sure he would hear his brothers’ teasing remarks on it once he returned to the Slytherin dormitory. Gossip traveled around the corridors faster than anyone would like is what he had always heard, and Phineas was sure he would find out the meaning of that saying soon enough.

He recalled the lecture that Professor Ronen energetically turned into an epic tale to prevent people from falling asleep as they did in Professor Binns class. But Phineas had to admit, the story of the spell’s creation was curious regardless. He was surprised that such a simple charm was invented so recently and by an unspeakable nonetheless, using it to find a quill in one of the dark corners of the department of mysteries. Phineas shivered at the thought, the more he heard about the work of unspeakables the more uneasy he felt, yet this seemed so simple in comparison to what their true work must have been

Eventually, after wandering through the halls, he found a dark corridor on the fourth floor where he was sure none of his peers would find him before he could finally get the hang of the wand lighting charm. He simply wished to spare himself of anymore embarrassment. After all, how else could one become a renowned wizard if they could not even learn the spells listed in the first year ciriculum as successfully as their peers, much less an ambitious Slytherin

“Lumos.” He whispered to himself yet his wand didn’t obey his order. Frustrated, knowing that an Ollivander hardly ever sold a customer a wand that didn’t agree with its user he tried again, “Lumos” still nothing, he observed, “LUMOS!”

Suddenly, the corridor was illuminated in a bright light to Phineas’ delight. Perhaps a third try was the charm in this case. If only it could have worked in front of his peers but he tried to ignore that fact. He relished in the warmth the light brought to him before it started dimming. However, just the light was about to distinguish itself without him needing to cast the counter spell, he noticed something that appeared to be writing engraved on the wall.

“Lumos!” He ordered his wand again and his walnut wand obeyed, finally he was getting the hang of magic for once.

When he looked at the wall again, he noticed that they were in fact ancient runes. However, he regretted the fact that he was not fluent in understanding ancient runes. Unfortunately, it was a class he could not take until his third year and besides, what professor would let him take it ahead of schedule?

“Are you lost?” A kind voice of an older man sounded in the corridor.

Phineas jumped from being startled but tried to hide it as he looked at the man. He was an older man with grey hair who was mainly dressed in fabrics of shades of blue and grey which complimented a kind expression on his face. Phineas recalled seeing the man at the welcoming feast but was not quite sure what he taught. If he was a professor he had, he had certainly not had his class yet.

“N-no sir.” Phineas stammered nervously in a foolish attempt to act like he knew what he was doing although did he really? “I was just trying to practice the wand lighting charm and then I found some ancient tunes engraved in the walls. Although I don’t understand them.”

“Fascinating.” The man breathed with great interest rather than rebuke him for why he was not in class or his dormitory. “Do you mind reigniting your wand and showing these runes to me?”

“I could try but my wand hasn’t been agreeing with me today.” Phineas honestly admitted before turning to the wand and trying the spell once again, “Lumos!” Luckily it was successful and the runes appeared on the walls once more. “See, they are right there, engraved in the stone, it is a message of some sort.”

“I don’t see any runes here.” The man mentioned before using his wand to conjure a piece of parchment and a quill, “Do you mind writing down what you see.”

“Not at all sir.” Phineas politely obeyed as he grabbed the materials and carefully recorded the message before hanging it back to the professor.

The old man took some time to observe the contents, “It looks to be a riddle of some kind, if I had to guess it was placed there by the architect of Hogwarts himself. Did you know that he worked alongside Rowena Ravenclaw to create the ever changing floor plan of the castle using ancient magic?”

“I do not believe we got to that part yet in Professor Binns’ class.” Phineas informed the man, “But why can I see the message and you can’t”

“That is a mystery that will need to be solved.” The man informed him vaguely although Phineas couldn’t be frustrated if even the professor did not know the answer. “There have been rumors of past students of Hogwarts with the ability of magic long gone. Perhaps you are one of those individuals.”

“Perhaps.” Phineas repeated, perhaps this was his chance to truly be something he thought. Perhaps he would be more than just the fifth born child of the Hearst Family, something he could put to his name with pride.

“You are a first year I assume.” The professor guessed to which Phineas nodded, “Why don’t you come to my classroom before your magical theory class, which reminds me. I don’t believe I have introduced myself, I am Professor Fig, and what might your name be.”

“Phineas Hearst.”

“Well Phineas,” Professor Fig informed him as he started to make his way down the corridor, “I believe you have quite a bright future ahead of you.”

Major Updates to My Weird Idea (that includes my Nightside OCs)

This is mainly an update for @schizoauthoress , @the--blackdahlia , @spacelizardtrashboys , @enigmaticandunstable and @piratewithvigor and I personally think @nattinngrst might like this.

I went on a trip to the beach yesterday with my parents and my older brother (who I bored and annoyed with this idea and you'll see some of his influence in this here post)

Anything written in italics is meant to be taken as a joke as you read through this wall of text, sending good vibes as always, hope y'all are doing well.

The show is set in Canadian, Texas (real place: Wikipedia). I'm thinking of this show starting in the mid-to-late 90s (1996/1997).

I've managed to do several things with that weird sitcom idea, so, where to start, how about with the three potential titles:

1 - Neighbourhood Watch

2 - First Call

3 - First Round (Which my brother likes)

Here are some options for bar names, starting with the Cop bar:

1 - The Donut Hole

2 - The Roasted Hog (which my big bro suggested)

3 - The Sherriff's Outpost

And the Biker Bar:

I'll start with the Cop Bar's owner & staff:

Rosalina Asturias 'Rosa' (Played by Billie Martinez) an employee of the local cop bar. Didn't grow up in the town, moved here for work.

Violet Croft (Played by Eli Herne) an employee. Grew up in town, never left, has the hots for one of the guys in the local police.

Sunshine Crawford 'Sunny' (Played by Holly Di Antonio) an employee. Grew up in town, left for college and came back.

Roscoe Power 'Ross' (Played by Jimmy Hart) the loudmouth who owns the bar, grew up in town, used to be a car salesman.

Olesya Pavlovsky 'Olivia' (Played by Penelope Voronin) an employee who grew up in town and has immigrant parents, goes by 'Olivia' because she would rather you don't f*** up her actual name.

Winona Vance (Played by Sam Griffin Silver) an employee who moved here from New York, for unknown reasons, and doesn't really understand the small town, everyone knows everyone lifestyle.

Lavender Whittemore (Played by Victoria Lucifarian) an employee who grew up in England but moved to live in America, settled in Canadian, Texas due to her love of westerns.

Next: The Local Police Squad:

Sergeant Valentine Gautier 'Val' (Played by Bret Hart) recently promoted before the series begins but still on patrol duty, watches over his younger brother.

Corporal Buck Morris 'Buckshot' (Played by Davey Boy Smith) the gun loving corporal of the squad and the only one to have both 'work' and 'home' guns.

Captain Napoleon Cooper 'Crazy Cooper' / 'Captain Crazy' (Played by Jim Neidhart) the police captain, recently reassigned to Canadian, Texas as there were rumours abut him which interfered with his work in his previous location.

Officer Duke Gautier (Played by Owen Hart) the young, recently recruited brother of Sgt Gautier, often put on patrol alone to ensure less arguments, but always checked on by his brother.

Next: The Biker Bar's Staff:

Ozzy Rains (Played by Charles Wright) A biker and member of the staff who grew up just outside of town but loves his fellow staff members like family.

Brock Martel (Played by Henry Godwin) a biker and member of the staff who grew up on a local ranch and loves beer, football and the current Mayor's down-to-Earth style.

Vincent Gore 'Vinnie' (Played by Kane) the owner's son and a known fire loving 'freak' often protected by his surrogate family, the bar staff, Vinnie knows no better than 'ooh, cool looking fire' and must be restrained or have his hands swatted away to stop him burning himself trying to touch campfires.

Raven Knight (Played by Kirby Roussimoff) the only female staff member, but also the girl who does all the tough jobs when needed, has a side business of making and selling artwork, such as portraits to locals, has designed some of the bar staff's tattoos.

Harlow Gore (Played by Paul Bearer) the owner of the bar and a loving father to his son, took Murphy (Undertaker) under his wing when they first met and also treats him, and the rest of staff, like family.

Hunter King (Played by Phineas Godwin) Brock's cousin and a member of staff, taught Raven how to shoot a shotgun and his father owns a local tattoo parlour.

Sequoia Reed (Played by Rikishi) an employee and Frankie's (Yokozuna) cousin, also a surrogate cousin to Raven, having been best friends since childhood. Reed loves his job and his staff family and will defend both at any cost.

Lupe Zapatero (Played by Savio Vega) an employee at the bar and possibly the shortest member of staff, towered over by the tallest staff members but is not any less of a fighter because of his size, a former mechanic who loves nothing more than taking things apart and putting them back together while listening to metal / rock.

Murphy Graves (Played By The Undertaker) Manager of the biker bar and an excellent member of staff, has an outlaw rules vibe, as in he would say to the police "Your jurisdiction ends when you walk in my bar." Very protective of the staff, and the owner.

Frankie Wolf (Played by Yokozuna) the most relaxed and laid-back of the staff, Frankie would prefer to be in the kitchen making potential 'Culinary Masterpieces' as he would call them. Sequoia and Raven's (surrogate) cousin, views his staff mates as family.

Next: The Local Band (Named: Exoskeleton Samurai)/College Students

Quinn Thorn (Played by Jeff Hardy) the bassist to Ros' (Lita) vocals / lead Guitar and older brother Garth's (Matt) Drums, a face paint enthusiast and an English major in college who never seems to find time to study, but always has time to date somehow.

Roz Jerome (Played by Lita) the vocals and lead guitar for the band and an art major who actually studies, dating Garth (Matt) and met Quinn through him. Roz also studies Spanish and French.

Garth Thorn (Played by Matt Hardy) Quinn's older brother and the band's drummer, a major in psychology and a horror movie lover, Roz' boyfriend and almost totally devoted to her, even at the cost of his college work.

Next: The Local Townsfolk of Note:

Mayor Robert Sweet (Played by Jim Duggan) rarely seen, but apparently a good man with good ideas, helps out in volunteer projects and absolutely loves the town. Trying his hardest and people know this, and they love him. (did I meme correctly?)

Rusty Jarvis (Played by Mick Foley) the local hippie who has never left town, somehow managing to know both everything and nothing at the same town. (Very Dude Love with hints of Cactus Jack and Mankind) Does know how to fight when he needs to.

Redd Wayne (Played by 'Sycho' Sid Vicious/Justice) the local baseball/softball star, helps out at the local school/college teaching sports and likes Raven's artwork, he watches her draw when he can, runs the local little league & minor league baseball/softball games.

Earl Black (Played by Steve Austin) the most often seen regular at the biker bar, absolutely loves both the bar and the town, a hardworking guy who has befriended the entire staff (including Harlow and Vinnie) of the biker bar.

Lex Aston (Played by The Rock) a local struggling actor, teaching an acting class to pay the bills and an absolute ladies man, and for that reason he goes to the cop bar, to try and pick up one of the bartenders who works there, often favouring Rosa as she will jokingly flirt back.

Finally (for this section): The Degenerates and Their Benefactors:

Reign Yates (Played by Billy Gunn) Leon's (Road Dogg) best friend, often the getaway driver for the group and a scout for locations, often getting all the info on a place before telling Matty (H.H.H) and Dell (HBK). Often leaves town with Leon to get the heat off them. (and make out in secret)

Zelda Hooper (Played by Chyna) the only female degenerate but possibly the toughest, has a rap sheet as big as her arms, not to be trusted when around the other degenerates as she is usually the actual brains of the operation.

Matty Battle (Played by Hunter Hearst Helmsley) the co-leader of the degenerates, often protected by Zelda or Mark (Kevin Nash). does most of the talking but has the piss taken of him for his looks often by either other degenerates or locals who don't care for the degenerates.

Romeo Colombera (Played by Mike Rotundo/I.R.S) the right hand man of the mysterious benefactor, and often the lawyer for the degenerates as well as a taskmaster for them, telling them what the boss wants done and by what date.

Mark Rake (Played by Kevin Nash/Diesel) the tallest degenerate with a rap sheet as long as his leg, a former bouncer at a now closed nightclub, alongside best friend (and possibly boyfriend) Galo (Scott Hall) and now a bodyguard (when needed) for Matty and Dell (HBK, also boyfriends).

Leon Rose (Played by Road Dogg) best friend of Reign and a scout for the group alongside him. Has found every possible way to piss off other townsfolk and often in the most fights because of it, always on the police's radar for one thing or another and constantly leaving town because of it.

Galo Villalobos (Played by Scott Hall/Razor Ramon) the only (supposedly) Latino degenerate, raised in Canadian, Texas but his parents are from Cuba, Galo is a former nightclub bouncer (alongside Mark) Galo is known (for his ability to give minus fucks) as the most relaxed member of the group.

Dell Pain (Played by Shawn Michaels/HBK) the co-leader alongside Matty, a known flirt with people regardless of gender or sexuality, just to piss them off on some occasions. Dell grew up in town, knowing it like the back of his hand.

Giles Rennell (Played by Ted DiBiase) the mysterious benefactor of the group, bailing them out if needed, he stumbled across the group after seeing a police bulletin and decided to use them to cause enough chaos to guarantee a chance in the next mayoral election.

Zac Noel (Played by X-Pac) the shortest and youngest degenerate, Zac is often treated as the child of the group, being taught how to get away with crimes and trick the police into just letting him go by clerical error and tomfoolery.

1x01: Insert Coin to Start: The pilot episode of the series sees the local biker bar of Canadian, Texas installing two, brand new, arcade machines. After leaving for the night, the team finds the bar broken into and both machines missing with no evidence or possible suspects to the robbery. The team finds the machines relatively undamaged in an alleyway nearby. By the end of the episode there's still no suspects. B plot includes an argument between father and son, Harlow and Vincent which ends when Murphy gets involved.

1x02: Hot Pursuit: Newly instated chief of police Chief Cooper [Neidhart] makes changes to the patrol teams before tasking them with looking for any persons involved with (1x01)'s robbery and break-in, leading to a high speed chase later in the episode. B plot includes the squad coming to grips with the new, and much crazier, police chief.

1x03: Making Noise: Local band Exoskeleton Samurai [Team Extreme] are writing new music late at night while Roz [Lita] tries to study for a class the following day but, during a moment of quiet, they hear a break in a couple of doors down and attempt to see who it is. The group get a glimpse of Zac Noel [X-Pac] and Mark Rake [Nash] but not a full glimpse. Now aware of the local degenerates, the band try and forget about it and focus on their own lives until their apartment gets broken into when they're not there.

1x04: Donuts & Beer: The new cop bar opens on the other side of town, serving mainly (both savoury and sweet) bagels and donuts as well as beer (on tap and bottled), the fact it's slightly more risqué gets (both good and bad) attention on the place. Winona Vance [Sam] gets in a fight with Zac Noel [X-Pac] as she's locking up. Winona [Sam] being put in the hospital with a broken arm makes the rest of [Cop Bar]'s staff double down on getting justice for the near break-in.

1x05: Dirty Work: The first episode from the degenerates perspective. The degenerates are just causing general problems for the town without reason because it's fun' but it's quickly losing their interest as the heat on them rises. The end of the episode has Matty Battle [Triple H] receiving a call from 'Mister R' [DiBiase] offering him a deal.

1x06: Blue & Black: A brawl breaks out at [Biker Bar] following whispers that the people who broke in are in the building. The bikers who work at the bar threaten to hurt anyone who works for the rival bar if they try and mess with business while in the biker bar.

1x07: Captain Crazy: A rumour that the current captain was moved location and promoted to smooth over allegations that he may not be fully sane, Officer Duke Gautier [Owen] is determined to find the truth while Sergeant Valentine Gautier [Bret] and Corporal Buck Morris [Davey Boy] are determined to keep the peace and catch the local degenerates.

1x08: Broken Strings: following an argument with an ex girlfriend Quinn Thorn [Jeff] finds his guitar smashed and has to work odd jobs to buy another one (starting a potential series c plot). Garth Thorn [Matt] ends up in a fight with Galo Villalobos [Hall] which ends when Roz Jerome [Lita] smashes a table leg over the back of Galo's [Scott's] head, knocking him out and giving him over to the police.

1x09: Badges & Bottle Tops: Captain Cooper [Neidhart] stops by [cop bar] to talk with owner Roscoe Power [Jimmy Hart]. Meanwhile the Gautier boys [Owen & Bret] interrogate Galo Villalobos [Scott Hall] about what the degenerates are doing and why, getting no information about the mysterious benefactor over than he pays them a lot of money depending on what they do.

1x10: Paid off: The mysterious benefactor 'Mister R' [DiBiase] pays Galo's [Scott's] bail, getting him free for a while but side-lining him too. The benefactor remains hidden in shadow but Matty & Dell [Triple H & HBK] have a meeting with him to discuss money and the next job.

1x11: Written in Ink: the tattooed bikers on the staff encourage regular customer Earl Black [Austin] to get a skull tattoo on his back and even take him with them to the tattoo parlour they frequent, finding it to be burned to the ground with a 'freaks get lost' sign planted in the wreckage. Murphy Graves [Undertaker] dismisses the rumours that the arsonist is the fire fascinated Vincent Gore [Kane] and even gives him an alibi when the cops come looking for answers, putting blame on someone in town who knows about Vinnie's [Kane's] love of fire, which is nearly every person in town.

1x12: Sergeant Heartbreaker: Sergeant Gautier [Bret] is accused of flirting with the staff at [Cop bar] leading to a paid two day leave to get heat off of him while he's ordered to remain at home. Officer Gautier [Owen] and Corporal Morris [Davey Boy] are put on patrol together, leading to a high speed chase of Reign Yates, Leon Rose & Zelda Hooper [Gunn, Road Dogg & Chyna] after witnessing a mugging, assault and graffiti from the trio, the cops eventually lose them down a back road on private Giles Rennell's [DiBiase's] land they would need a warrant for.

1x13: Failing Grade: Quinn's [Jeff's] lack of sleep leads to him getting a fail on an test forcing him to do the semester again. Enraged by this Quinn [Jeff] considers leaving the school but is encouraged to continue following Garth [Matt] ending up in hospital following [1x12]'s assault and mugging on Garth & Roz [Matt & Lita].

1x14: Microphones & Megaphones: [cop bar]'s owner Roscoe Power [Jimmy Hart] installs a stage for local acts in the bar, leading to Violet Croft [Eli] performing later that episode (the closing of the episode into the credits) and the night before the first performance the bar is covered in graffiti, leading to a massive clean up effort from the staff and local volunteers (like Mick Foley & The Rock).

1x15: Trench Warfare: Romeo Colombera [IRS] the benefactor's [DiBiase's] right hand man and go-to lawyer gives the degenerates an list of jobs, run the police chief out of town by the end of the year, run the bikers out of town, and ensure that 'Mister R' [DiBiase] the benefactor wins the next mayoral election.

1x16: Fuelling Up: after closing up [biker bar] Raven Knight [Kirby] narrowly avoids being burned by her motorbike exploding in a ball of fire. Her boss, Harlow Gore [Bearer] tells her to take the week off, leading to her coming into the bar and sitting at the back of the bar, sketching the regular customers and having a long conversation with local sports star Redd Wayne [Sid].

1x17: Brothers in Arms: Together: the Gautier brothers [Bret & Owen] are put on patrol together leading to the arrest of Zelda, Matty & Dell [Chyna, Triple H & HBK] before the trio are bailed out, the brothers interrogate Dell Pain [HBK] (leading to a very 'basic instinct'-esque scene with Shawn in assless chaps and boxer briefs) who gives them no information on their behaviour and why they are doing the things they've done.

1x18: Night Time Fun: the band attends a college party, unknowingly with Zac Noel [X-Pac] also in attendance, leading to the trio being high and drunk and the Thorn brothers [Matt & Jeff] end up in a fight, almost being thrown out of college entirely for their actions the next morning.

1x19: Head or Hart: Violet Croft [Eli] and (officer) Duke Gautier [Owen] meet properly for the first time on a blind date, leading to them walking through the streets of Canadian, Texas at night. The date is quickly ended after Duke [Owen] spots Leon Rose [Road Dogg] spray painting [cop bar] and gives chase after handing Violet [Eli] his number.

1x20: Grunt Work: The degenerates have a group meeting about how to sabotage the town meeting, leading to Rennell [DiBiase] coming out of the shadows to lead the degenerates in a coordinated attack on the town hall. Leading to the degenerates waiting until the town meeting to begin the next day.

1x21: Town Meeting: Mayor Robert Sweet [Duggan] conducts a town meeting, leading to everyone airing their grievances with the degenerates recent spree of activity. At the end of the meeting, paint bombs hidden above the townsfolk go off all at once, covering everyone in bright, almost neon, green paint.

Good Morning Westchester

So here’s the first oneshot I ever wrote that I’ was actually proud of.

prompt used: my best friend dragged me to a party some of the senior football players are throwing and it’s really boring and the only interesting thing is the boy playing beer pong on the patio

Sometimes I wonder why I'm here, as in life and death and existence and all that. Maybe there's meaning somewhere out there, or maybe there's not. Maybe the people out there doing yoga at mountainside resorts seeking enlightenment are just fooling themselves and others, wasting their time and money chasing something unattainable.

Sometimes I wonder why I'm here, as in THIS FLIPPING PARTY FULL OF HUMANS. HUMANS, I TELL YE.

"Hi, I'm Bill Hearst, and this is my colleague, Tyler Josef."

I pasted a well-practiced smile on my face and tuned the oh-so familiar voice out.

Presenting, the reason why. That's my best friend, we've known each other since diapers. Comes from money, but is actually pretty down-to-earth. Though the line starts to blur between eccentric and just plain nuts.

A goth chick looked me up and down. My pastel dress and matching earrings... and nails... and shoes... and purse... probably don't exactly scream 'Tyler'.

"Uh. Nice to meet you both."

I did my best to smile, but I really don't want to be here. I'd rather be reading. Maybe I can hide in the bathroom?

I banished the thought. Who knows what kind of germs are in there.

By the time I fully returned to the real world, the goth girl had left.

I poked Bill on the arm and frowned.

"Why do you always do this?"

"Because it's fun." Bill grinned at me. "I'm still waiting for the first person to question if that's your real name. Besides, gender blender names are all the rage with white suburban soccer moms now. Blake, Spencer, Ryan, Jackson, Connor, Alexander..."

I crossed my arms and waited for him to finish, but he kept going. "Why do you KNOW this?"

Bill shrugged. "Because I google random stuff instead of studying. Noah, Mason, Kyle, Levi, Maxwell, Evan, Oliver, Sebastian..."

I put my hand up to stop him. "Okay, well, Sebastian is a horrible name to give your child, no matter what gender they are."

Bill swung around me and leaned against the wall.

"First of all, Michael, that's offensive to Sebastians everywhere. Secondly, who doesn't want to share a name with a crab?" He cocked his head to the side. "Or was it a lobster?"

Some drunk girl came out of nowhere, running into the wall right next to me.

"Ariiiiana Graaande? Isss that yooouu?" She slurred, reaching out at me a little too enthusiastically for my liking.

I could hear Bill snickering on my other side.

I took a step back, eyes wide. "Very much no."

"Oh." She looked disappointed, then wandered off in a haze.

I shook my head and looked around at the few people milling about.

"This place is so dead. Aren't teen parties supposed to be all, all night rages and burning down houses?"

Bill adjusted his vest and gave me a funny look.

"Don't believe everything you hear. Maybe we should get you somewhere less flammable."

I sighed and leaned against the wall, rolling my shoulders back.

"Is it too much to ask—"

Bill shook his head slightly, cutting me off.

"I am an extrovert, Phineas Taylor, and this may be hard for you to understand, but if I don't get human interaction, I can and will die." He stared at me with complete seriousness.

I furrowed my brows. "...Uh huh."

Bill sighed and tugged at the cuff of his sleeve. "They have a patio? But you have to promise you won't throw yourself into the pool or something crazy like that."

I leaned forward and shook his hand with a little too much enthusiasm. "Deal. Besides, you're more likely to do that than I am."

We weaved around two people arguing about something that had to do with the budget of the student government. I don't understand how people get so invested in this stuff, but okay.

I closed my eyes and leaned out over the balcony as we stepped into the fresh air. "Ah, peace and qu—"

"THIS IS NOT LIKE WII POOL AT ALL!" A high-pitched, but still decidedly male voice yelled.

I raised my head and stared out over the balcony like I was looking into a camera on The Office.

Bill laughed at my disgruntled expression. "You're the only who was complaining about it being boring a few minutes ago!"

"Well, I didn't mean... this!" I whisper-shouted and gestured over to a table surrounded by loud teenage boys. Are there any other kind?

Bill elbowed me. "That would be beer pong, my young sheltered friend."

I rolled my eyes.

"Never mind, that's it. Sorry, but I'm jumping in the—" I was about to head down the stairs of the balcony when something caught my eye. Blonde curly hair, greenish eyes (as far as I can tell from here), and a dazzling smile.

Oh no, he's hot.

I was probably staring for ten minutes straight.

"If you're really bored, we can head out." Bill's voice startled me and jolted me out of my thoughts.

"I, uh, wuh?" I stuttered, pulling my eyes away and trying to appear unfazed. "I mean, nah, I can stay."

Bill saw right through that.

"Finally found something that piqued your interest, eh? Or someone?"

He followed my gaze over to where Blondie was receiving instructions from a slightly confused redhead. "Aha." He pushed off the balcony and started walking over to them.

I eyed him suspiciously. "Where are you going, Liam?"

"WOO! AND THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE, SON!" Blondie pumped his fists into his air and danced around in a small circle, whacking his hip against the table in the process. "Ow!"

Bill waved me off. "Don't you trust me?"

Red rolled his eyes. "I'm a year older than—"

Blondie grabbed his shoulders, grinning from ear to ear. "Shut up and eat in the moment."

I blinked a few times. "...no? Not really? Willy-Billy, you get back here or I'm going to call you even more embarrassing nicknames for the rest of your life—" I looked to my left and my right, then inched closer.

Red reached up and slowly pushed Blondie's hands off his arms. "It's 'drink in the moment', Race."

Blondie shrugged, seemingly undeterred. "I've heard it both ways."

Red pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. "No you haven't."

Bill finally reached the table, grabbing Blondie and Red's attention. I'm too far away to hear what's being said over the general noise. What the heck does he think he's—

Blondie looked over at me and we made eye contact. I felt my face flush as he grinned at me.

Wait just a clock tick, is he moving towards me?

Wait, no, what do I do? What do I say? 'Hi, I want your babies'? Absolutely not. Not that. It's probably too late to run and pretend like I didn't see him, but I'm just standing here frozen. At least I know I won't pass out because you have to have a drop in your blood pressure to faint, and mine has definitely risen. That's not helpful, me! I don't need your useless paramedical facts!

Blondie shoved his hands in his pockets as he approached me.

"So, Halo, right?" Even his voice is drop dead gorgeous, if that makes any sense.

"Guh?" I blinked dumbly.

The only good thing about me currently being rooted to the spot is, I don't think I'm going to fall over at least?

"Your friend said that was your name, Halo, like the angel..." He gestured above his head with a small smile.

...Bill, I am going to murder you.

I scoffed in disbelief and shook my head.

"Yeah, not exactly. He never calls me by my real name, though. I should be glad it wasn't anything embarrassing like 'Princess'." I unconsciously picked at the skin at the edges of my fingernails.

Blondie smiled and leaned forward.

"Eh, I get that. I don't go by my real name, either. Everyone calls me Race. Pleasure to meet you."

You know what? He looks like a male version of Rapunzel. Be still, my heart.

I reminded myself to keep breathing. I tried to lean against the balcony and, I dunno, look cool I guess, but I missed and almost fell over.

I felt my heart leap into my throat as I frantically regained my balance.

"Bwuh— I mean, you too. I mean, me too. I mean, the pleasure is all mine and... Is that short for Eraser?"

Race glanced down and snorted, smirking. "That's a new one. No, it's Racetrack. Racetrack Higgins." He took my hand, lips brushing against my knuckles.

Wow. I'm an idiot. Also, I can feel my whole face going red. Error 404 gateway timeout—

"Oh. Sorry." I clenched and unclenched my free hand in an effort to release tension any way I could.

"You can call me anything you want, doll. Oh, speaking of which," He pressed a slip of paper into my palm and winked. "Call me sometime, hm?"

Have you ever seen someone so beautiful you just started crying? I know it sounds weird, but this one time—

I bit my lip and shifted my weight from one side to the other. "Yeah, um, I will."

"Cool." Blondie– I mean Race– did finger guns at me. "See you around." He headed back in Red's direction.

I smiled, awestruck, then turned and walked away in a bit of a daze. What just happened?

I walked right into Bill.

"Yo, Eminem. What can I say except you're welcome?" He did ridiculous jazz hands, which made me laugh despite everything else.

"Shut up, Billiam. But thanks, I guess." I glanced down at my hand, still smiling. Maybe this whole 'socializing with other human beings' thing wasn't completely awful and pointless after all.

Fans of the WWF in the mid-90s will remember the happy-go-lucky team known as The Godwinns. One half of the duo was Henry O. Godwinn, who had a notable feud with Hunter Hearst Helmsley that included a Hog Pen Match. Godwinn was released from the company quietly in late 1998 when his neck was seriously injured while taking the Doomsday Device by The Legion Of Doom, while his partner Dennis Knight (formerly Phineas I. Godwinn) was reborn as Mideon at the 1999 Royal Rumble.

Godwinn wouldn't step foot in a ring again for 8 years, returning to action at an OVW TV taping in March of 2006. Godwinn began a training regimen to get himself back in shape so that he could return to the WWE, and recieved a few tryout dark matches prior to WWE TV tapings (one of which, against Bull Buchanan in September of 2006, is said to be one of the worst ever). Godwinn was signed to a developmental deal and reformed The Godwinns with Ray Gordy in Deep South Wrestling (Gordy would go on to become Jesse of Jesse & Festus). The pairing didn’t last long, however, as Godwinn would be released from the company in May of 2007. It’s been said that the deal was made by Godwinn’s old foe Triple H, who went to bat for Godwinn due to his son passing away and him needing a job. Godwinn has had a few sporadic wrestling appearances as recently as 2012, but largely isn’t involved in wrestling anymore.

One of the cool things about his coming back was that in 2006, I got the chance to meet him before an OVW event. At my very first live wrestling show in the 90s, Henry Godwinn was the first wrestler that I saw step through the curtain, so it was kind of a cool encounter. I remember him being very friendly and talking to me about local restaurants that he should check out.

The Story of Nemesia Hearst

Nemesia was born in 1450 and was one of her parents two children who survived to adulthood along with her younger brother Ozias who was born in 1457 and as they began Hogwarts, both siblings were placed into Slytherin house. Unfortunately when she was nineteen years old her parents caught a mysterious illness and passed away, this conveniently just happened before Nemesia was set to marry a man she had no love for and ultimately caused the betrothal to fall apart.

To support her brother, Nemesia traveled to Scotland and got a job as a Herbologist’s apprentice, being quite good in the subject during her school years. She grew to be so skilled that when the previous herbology professor at Hogwarts retired, her mentor, an influential intellectual, campaigned for Nemesia to get the position. Which resulted in Nemesia becoming the herbology professor in 1475, the same year her brother was beginning his final year at Hogwarts.

During her time as a professor she made friends with her colleagues such as transfiguration professor, Charles Rookwood, and beasts professor, San Bakar. She learned about divination from Percival Rackham who curiously was able to see traces of ancient magic which Nemesia felt like was a fascinating ability. She also grew close with Niamh Fitzgerald who became the headmistress of Hogwarts during her time as the herbology professor.

Meanwhile, her brother was becoming good allies with Henry VII after meeting him and his court during a visit to France. Ozias assisted him in taking the crown from Richard III. As a reward, he was granted a piece of land in a rural area not too far from Liverpool. Ozias used the land to create a massive estate to build the wealth of the Hearst family that would later be known as Hearst Hall. Nemesia also stayed in the new family home and Ozias was glad to host her, feeling it was a way he could pay her back for what she did for him.

She traveled around the country with her colleagues to help the less fortunate using Percival’s ability to perform ancient magic. One of their trips brought them to Feldcroft where they helped a community after a severe drought and made the land fertile once again. They also traveled around to ruins to examine the ancient messages carved in them and figure out what they could possibly mean, using their different professions and specialties to help each other with their shared studies.

Nemesia along with her colleagues mentored a student named Isidora Morganach who possessed the same ability as Percival and was sorted into Ravenclaw House. Percival in particular hoped to teach the girl how to wield her magic properly and Nemesia saw the value of importance in helping him alongside her colleagues. She also welcomed Isidora when she returned to Hogwarts to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts although suspected something changed about her between her graduation and employment at the school but kept quiet since her colleagues we happy to have her back

Soon enough it was discovered that Isidora was straying away from the path Percival and his colleagues warned her about and was developing dangerous spells to extract pain. Nemesia was especially worried about the psychological effects such a spell could have on a person despite its seemingly beneficial results. They tried to tell her that such experimentation was not proper for ancient magic. However she went on further and stored the pain she extracted in a secret repository in Feldcroft to study its ancient elements

One day, the Keepers went to confront Isidora however she acted quite aggressive causing her to cast a spell to make Niamh unconscious. Not seeing a way to come to a peaceful solution, Nemesia joined Percival, Charles, and San, in a fierce duel against Isidora. However to her surprise, the duel was ended very quickly with San casting the killing curse on Isidora and while Nemesia was shocked she did see that it was for the best as Isidora was already harming to many people.

Centuries later, her descendant, Phineas Hearst, would discover her and her fellow keepers portraits. It was soon discovered that Phineas also possessed the same ability as Percival and Isidora. Nemesia, worried that her descendant would follow down Isidora’s path, was strict yet kind with him in her teachings and trials. She would also entertain his interest in learning about her studies and listening to stories from a direct source about the founding of the Hearst Family.

Interestingly enough, Nemesia’s herbology journals were lost within the Hearst Hall for centuries and were later discovered by one of her descendants who was fascinated by herbology and Phineas’ granddaughter, Olivia Hearst, when she was twelve. While Olivia never ventured to Nemesia’s portrait, she did learn more about her from Phineas. Olivia continuously studied Nemesia’s notes and referenced them when working on her own studies, while also using modern revelations that were discovered about the subject after Nemesia’s time

Count Down to HPHL

Harry Richardson as Phineas Hearst

Meet Phineas Hearst, the youngest of five children and the fourth son of his parents. He was a slow when it came to learning, especially when comparing him to his siblings with his older brother Cyrus even teasing him for it calling him the runt of the family. However, when Phineas learns of his ability to see traces of ancient magic, he becomes seen as a respectable figure in the wizarding world. He is a member of Slytherin house and friends with Sebastian Sallow and Ominis Gaunt. After Hogwarts, he marries Marie McKay, a fellow pure blood, and they had three sons together.

Chasing the Relic

This story is a rewritten version of both In The Shadow of Discovery and In the Shadow of Time, it is also a continuation of the rewrite I did for In The Shadow of the Study

“I am worried about Sebastian.” Ominis admitted, “You see him in the dorm room each night, ever since we escaped the scriptorium, his nose has been buried in Slytherin’s spellbook. It doesn’t help that he seemingly raced out of here, claimed he needed to head to Hogsmeade and then after that visit Feldcroft for the weekend, the suddenness is suspicious.”

“He just wants to read through it to see if he can find a way to save Anne and I’m sure he just wants to tell her about his findings.” Phineas assured him. “Sebastian is a smart guy, he knows what he is doing, we don’t need to control his every move.”

“He’s not being smart by looking at that spellbook.” Ominis argued back, “He is being reckless and irresponsible. Curiosity is only good until one takes it too far, and I am worried that he has gone to the point of no return.”

“It’s not like he is chasing after dark wizards and relics.” Phineas reminded him.

“I am worried he is.” Ominis expressed quietly. “Whenever he reads, he often whispers the text out loud, he thinks I cannot hear what he reads but it’s almost as clearly as if he was giving a speech to a crowd at an event.”

“I suppose you just have better hearing than me.” Phineas realized, then again, he assumed Ominis naturally had to as magic could only guide his way so much. “Is there something in particular he is researching that worries you?”

“Well if you ask me the entire spell book is no good.” Ominis stated, “I should have told him to leave it in the scriptorium but I couldn’t bring myself to order him to do so, it was cowardly. Everything to do with Salazar Slytherin seems promising from his spells to his relics to his past, until it is too late. I’ve heard Sebastian talking about one relic in particular that is extremely worrisome.”

“Do you recall overhearing anything about this dark relic?” Phineas asked, “I’ve skimmed through the book so I can’t say I know every detail about each relic accounted for in the spellbook, but I might be able to help you figure out if it is bad or good news and if we should check in on Sebastian and make sure he isn’t getting into any dire trouble.”

“Well, I know he said something about finding a relic that would be able to heal Anne, although he mentioned quietly something about it being hard to locate as it’s been lost for centuries and that a sacrifice would most likely be needed in order for it to be a success.” Ominis recalled slowly, moving his hand as if he was tracing Sebastian’s steps on a map that was in front of him.

“Perhaps it was the Inferian Pyramid?” Phineas determined after a few seconds of thought, “I remember reading about that artifact more throughly than the others. Something about how it had been made at the beginning of some kingdom in Northern Africa but eventually made its way to Hogwarts, most likely by a variety of traveling wizards.”

“Do you recall if it said anything else?” Ominis inquired.

“Well it could produce and summon inferi at will.” Phineas commented, “Honestly I remember it more than that for its healing properties, such a peculiar combination.”

“Perhaps not.” Ominis theorized. “Perhaps this artifact summons inferi in order for the wielder to make the ‘proper’ sacrifice in the form of a victim’s death. Then maybe the relic consumes that person’s life force and can transfer it to the person the wielder wants to heal.”

“Sounds gruesome.” Phineas remarked.

“Yet a likely reality.” Ominis replied uneasily, “We need to stop Sebastian before he gets himself hurt, I think I know where he is.”

“Lead the way Ominis.”

Phineas had been to Feldcroft once before with his family as they tended to visit a variety of pure blood Slytherins across the area. Yet it seemed more dreary in the Scottish hamlet than anything else. Quite surprising considering it didn’t take too long to get to the hamlet from the school and it seemed much sunnier than this. Was it reflecting the dark energies circulating around? Phineas certainly hoped that it wasn’t the case.

However, during his previous visit, he had not visited the catacombs that were within walking distance from the hamlet. As a young child, the idea of even exploring this area gave him an uneasy feeling as it seemed to be nothing but trouble.

The dark catacombs that were located in a hidden area required Phineas to cast lumos to illuminate the stoney path “Do you hear him yet?” Phineas asked his friend as they ventured into the catacombs.

“Not yet.” Ominis sighed, “I should have expected this from him, Sebastian always has a mind of his own and when it comes to Anne, he throws reasons and morals out of the window.”

“He’s been studying that spellbook nonstop for ages.” Phineas exaggerated but it seemed quite close to the truth. He rarely ever say Sebastian without Slytherin’s spell book and whenever he was without it, he was either reading something related to it, or reviewing the notes he took about the ancient spellbook’s contents. “I am sure he knows what he is doing.”

“And if he doesn’t?” Ominis asked, “I feel like we have already lost Anne because of her curse, we can’t lose Sebastian either.”

“You’ve known Sebastian longer than I have.” Phineas reminded him, “Do you really think he’d betray either of us in such a matter?”

Ominis signed, “I don’t know, I don’t really know anything anymore. Sebastian doesn’t like being told what to do you know, it’s why he doesn’t get along with his uncle, he’s quite a stickler to the rules being a former auror and rightfully so. Sebastian has believed dark magic could hold the answer to a cure for Anne, however he knows well from that spellbook that it simply isn’t that simple and he’s going to have to pay the price.”

“Still, your Aunt said in her journal there was a chance there was more to Salazar Slytherin than obsessing over pure blood status and using dark magic.” Phineas recalled. “Perhaps she was right and some of the artifacts and spells Salazar Slytherin documented don’t involve torture or dark magic.”

“I suppose an optimistic person could declare that.” Ominis admitted, “Still, everything about Salazar Slytherin seems too good to be true, and that’s because it typically is. Records show that he was quite cunning and charismatic, it’s how he became such a powerful wizard on top of his natural skill with a wand. However, it also meant that he could deceive anyone he deemed unworthy, it is why we were practically lured into searching for Slytherin’s Scriptorium, and why you had to end up on the receiving end of an unforgivable curse.”

Even hearing Ominis recall the events of their search for the Scriptorium and entering it made Phineas feel like he was once again victim to the cruciatus curse. The feeling of practically one thousand knives stabbing him all across his seemingly burning body was an unbearable sensation that he wished never to become victim to again, especially by someone who would enjoy in his suffering. He assumed that while Sebastian did mean it so they could survive, it was only a weak version of the curse, as he had heard some people who had terrible side effects and medical conditions following the curse.”

“I think I hear him.” Ominis quickly said which brought Phineas out of his own mind, “Come on.”

Phineas hurried behind Ominis who was strangely fast considering the careful steps needed to be taken in order to not slip or trip on the rocky pathways. He recast his wand to produce another lightening charm, this time, one stronger than his previous one so he could spot Sebastian easier. He did relatively quickly after turning the third corner. Phineas observed how Sebastian seemed to have left straight from the school, without stopping to change, as he still wore the robes of the snake house.

Phineas watched as Sebastian turned, his dark eyes having a mixture of emotions as the brown haired Slytherin spoke, “Ominis? Phineas? Did you two follow me?”

“You left us no choice.” Ominis assertively confirmed, “We know why you are hear Seb, you can’t take that relic and you know it.”

“You two don’t understand”Sebastian attempted to explain.

“I understand plenty.” Ominis continued in a cool tone, managing his internal anger while also somehow getting Sebastian to be quiet mid sentence. “We don’t need to resort to dark magic to heal Anne, you know full well she wouldn’t agree to it.”

“Ominis is right Sebastian.” Phineas contributed. “If we use dark magic there is going to be a price to pay, and we can’t lose you, there has to be another way”

“And if you won’t put the relic back.” Ominis added, “we will.”

“Would you two stop talking and listen to me!” Sebastian yelled, his voice echoing throughout the tunnels of the catacomb to the point where Phineas could faintly hear Sebastian’s sentence for a while after he said it, “the thing is-“

“Accio Relic!” A voice called out, forcing the relic that Phineas somehow neglected to notice Sebastian had in his hand and into the hand of another wizard.

Phineas felt like he recognized the man before and assumed it was a member of that dark wizard gang who had been plaguing Hogsmeade and surrounding wizarding villages and on top of that, torturing a variety of magical creatures. The man was bald and paled skin, yet hid his lack of hair with a black bowler hat, which matched the rest of his dark attire. Phineas noticed a couple of more people who emerged from the shadows, yet there was only one who Phineas knew for sure he recognized as he graciously accepted the artifact from the man with bowler hat, Victor Rookwood.

Rookwood smirked in the three of them’s direction, “I suppose I should thank you boys as much as I should thank my own loyal comrades, you certainly did us a favor with leading the way to this little relic.” He tipped his top hat charmingly as he spoke smoothly.

“What do you want.” Sebastian viciously sneered.

“Oh nothing much other than this relic.” Rookwood replied with a sense of dismissiveness. “Now a boy with an interest in the dark arts and desire for freedom, a boy with a talent for seeing ancient magic, and a Gaunt, all with potential, you three could certainly make a fine addition to our team.”

“Never.” Ominis spat at him, stepping in front of both Phineas and Sebastian, “Get lost!”

“It wasn’t a request.” Rookwood growled.

“Well here is our reply.” Phineas responded, “Leviosa!” He shouted, using his wand to lift Rookwood off the ground and slam him against the rock wall and fall to the ground, certainly still breathing, but unconscious for the near future.

Sebastian and Ominis helped him out, with both casting a variety of spells as the gang tried to close in on them. Sebastian seemed to have noticed that someone was trying to grab the relic from Rookwood, which had miraculously stayed in one piece, yet Sebastian managed to quickly retrieve it with a simple cast of Accio.

Once the number of dark wizards decreased, Phineas felt a hand grab onto his arm tightly and before he knew it, he was apparated away from the catacombs. His new surroundings were much more serene, it seemed to be the ruins of a castle overlooking Feldcroft, certainly not as grand or impressive as Hogwarts. Phineas wondered if this was perhaps what the famed school of magic looked like to any muggles who happened to stumble upon it. As much as he loved his magical ability and wouldn’t trade it for the world, he had to admit that living one day as a muggle, and exploring the locations he visited on a regular basis to see how they would appear to him, would be extremely fascinating.

“Are you both ok?” Sebastian asked.

“Yes.” Ominis replied first, brushing on the dirt from his robe.

“But we are only alive thanks to you.” Phineas expressed his gratitude.

“I was trying to warn you back in the catacombs.” Sebastian explained, “Yes, I will admit I was looking into the artifact in hopes that it could heal Anne. Even found a guy in Hogsmeade who could analyze the artifact and see what it could do safely without anyone getting hurt. However, while I was there, I overheard rumors that Rookwood’s gang was planning on retrieving a relic near Feldcroft. Since I had determined that it had to be the location of this particular one, I put two and two together and went to retrieve it before it was too late, I didn’t tell you both because I figured it’d be too risky.”

“At least you haven’t lost all common sense.” Ominis admitted, “Still it was very dangerous, you can’t be doing this, you are going to get yourself killed.”

“Then again.” Phineas pointed out, “If that artifact got into the hangs of Rookwood, we could be dealing with far worse.”

“I suppose so.” Ominis admitted before turning to Sebastian, “I’d normally say go and return the relic, but I think even I can admit that it will not lead to the safest outcome, take us to the man in Hogsmeade, we will see what we can do from there. However, I’ll have you know that I am against using this artifact to help Anne, it’s bound to posses dark magic.”

“Still it is worth a shot.” Sebastian stated.

“We should probably get going before Rookwood and his gang wakes up and finds us.” Phineas stopped their arguing, “Let’s see if we can get to Hogsmeade before the sunset comes.”

The Gorgon Statue

Welcome to a rewrite of In The Shadow of the Relic. As always this is meant to help rework Sebastian’s character and story and this particular quest rewrite will have some major changes so keep that in mind.

Trigger Warning: Death, Imperius Curse, Misunderstandings, Angst

“So what was it you wanted to show me?” Phineas asked with curiosity as he followed Sebastian to the ruined castle on the hill not too far from Feldcroft.

“I found some runes that I’d like to see if you could decipher on the castle’s walls.” Sebastian explained, “I found a lead that Salazar Slytherin might have worked with a previous lord of this very castle back in the days of the founders to work on how to manipulate dark magic. Whether that manipulation was meant to cure people afflicted by it I’m not sure, but perhaps I could reverse engineer it.”

“Was this why you didn’t want to bring Ominis along?” Phineas asked.

“No,” Sebastian assured him, “I know he’s worried for me and he means well. It’s just that this place can be dangerous if you don’t know your way around. I have moved my studying from the catacombs to here after my uncle found me reading the spell book over the holidays, he was insanely furious with me. I just wish he knew I only want the best for Anne, he isn’t doing anything to help her other than acting content with what has happened, I can’t live with that.”

“Just don’t go too far Sebastian.” Phineas warned him, “The further you get from shore, the more likely you are going to drown.”

“Is that some riddle Marie taught you?” Sebastian smirked.

“Perhaps.” Phineas couldn’t help but smile and kept it as he looked at the ruins. The castle walls were made of stone that managed to persist and even the sights of a once flourishing garden was present, along with garden statues. However, many were quite off putting, especially one with a snake haired woman.

“She’s a clever one.” Sebastian noted, “Yet always seems suspicious of me.”

“She just likes to stay out of trouble.” Phineas assured his friend, “However, as much trouble as you get in, I will admit you know how to properly prepare.”

“At least someone does.” Sebastian grinned, “Thank you, Finn.”

“Of course.” Phineas happily replied, “However I thought you were focusing on that pyramid you found in the catacombs, have you already moved on?”

“The guy from Hogsmeade said it would only worsen the condition so I had to find another solution.” Sebastian explained. “It’s another reason I moved my studies to this location, it’s the next oldest place in Feldcroft I could think of, and it should be a while before my uncle manages to rage in here acting like he can control me as if I’m his little puppet.”

“I know your frustrated with him.” Phineas inferred, “But I’m sure he means well, he has kept a roof over your and Anne’s heads for all these years.”

“I suppose so.” Sebastian sighed, “Still, it feels like he’s never actually been there for us, more like a ghost than an actual person. I know he is mourning the death of our parents, he lost his brother after all, however if he truly loved us, he would find another way to help Anne. Her health is already declining quickly as it is, she won’t have much time I worry. She’s withering away like a flower in winter…I can’t bear to lose her…”

Phineas nodded, “Now what did you want me to examine for you?” He asked, hoping to get Sebastian in a better mood

“Right here.” He said motioned to one of the walls.

“Hmm…fascinating.” Phineas remarked, “I can see the traces of where ancient magic was once here, and the symbol of the keepers. And it looks like the runes you saw were only part of the message, half of it is glowing showing it has been created using ancient magical techniques…”

“You mean that drab group of folks who talk about history only slightly more interestingly than Professor Binns?” Sebastian asked.

“I wouldn’t describe them quite like that,” Phineas admitted, “But yes.” He turned his head back to the runes, he tried to read it and decipher it in a notebook he had and scribbled down the translation; Enhanced gazer of enchanted stone awaken and reveal the secrets of old. He wasn’t quite sure what it meant, perhaps Sebastian could figure it out by cross referencing it with his research, yet before he could convey the message, the rustling of bushes caught him off guard.

“You heard that too right?” Sebastian whispered to which Phineas nodded and suddenly figured out where it was coming from when they were quickly surrounded by none other, than the gang of Victor Rookwood, of course, he simply had to pop up at such a time.

“It is nice that you boys do all the hard work for us.” Rookwood charismatically smirked as he brought his dark and sinister gaze toward Phineas, “Hand me the notebook boy or else”.

“Or else what?” Phineas snapped back.

“I believe you know.” Rookwood snarled, “Give it willingly.” He added as he pulled out his wand, “Or I will take it by force.”

Sebastian suddenly stepped in front of Phineas, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you, we defeated you back in the catacombs and we will do so again. DEPULSO!”

It was the first spell of many in the fight, Phineas managed to get upper ground by climbing up a staircase as it’s steps crumpled below him, reaching on of the towers of the ruined castle. He watched the fight as it rages on below him, assisting Sebastian by bringing rocks to drop on the unsuspecting dark wizards below him, however it seemed like they had grown in strength and number since Phineas and Sebastian last confronted Rookwood and his cronies back in the Catacombs. It was true that they also had Ominis with them, yet it seemed that as quickly as they were knocking dark wizards off their feet, they were popping back up like daisies in spring.

“Expecto Pataronum!” Phineas called out, clinging to his notebook to make sure he didn’t drop it, and from the tip of his wand, emerged a relatively calm boar that was colored in a pastel blue, he pointed toward Feldcroft and as if it was a pet following orders, the patronus obeyed his instructions. Phineas watched as the boar became smaller and smaller as it went into the distance until it became unnoticeable. He knew full well they needed backup, yet he couldn’t leave Sebastian, he’d be killed for sure. Yet perhaps someone would see the patronus charm and come running.

However, his flow of thoughts were broken into a million pieces as he heard one of the dark wizards yell out at the top of their lungs, “CONFRINGO!”

The blasting curse demolished the tower and Phineas tumbled to the ground, succumbing to the force of gravity and getting closer to the spiky rocks below him that seemed to grow in number. However, his fall was softened by Sebastian who managed to turn the rocks into a series of pillows and cushions.

Despite the pain in his arm from the awkward landing, Phineas satisfied himself in the fact that at least it was his non dominant arm and he was able to cast spells back and forth with ease. He was also thankful that he was still able to run as if he hadn’t fallen from such heights, as being stationary on the ground would be disastrous.

Phineas cast a few more spells, using rocks to practically control the movements of dark wizards and try to get them within the confinements of the castle. He assumed that then he could cut them off by trapping them within the ruins, it would certainly make the dueling much easier, however he still had a long way to go, yet he figured he would get there, with Sebastian by his side.

“LEVIOSA!” A new voice yelled out, levitating one of the red haired dark witches off of the ground and spinning her around like a top before letting her down, allowing Sebastian to use a summoning charm to disarm her of the wand that fell out of her hand.

Phineas turned and smiled at Ominis, “You came!” He explained.

“Anne spotted your patronus, sensed something was wrong, figured out you were here based on the direction the patronus came from, and sent me here while she went to get more help” Ominis explained so quickly that it was hard for Phineas to keep up, “Help is on the way.”

“Good to see you mate!” Sebastian smiled as he fired a couple more spells at the dark wizards.

“Can I leave you two alone for five seconds without you getting into a duel?” Ominis remarked.

“I guess not.” Phineas laughed lightheartedly

“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE BOY?” The familiar booming voice of Solomon Sallow ranged out.

“Uncle! It isn’t what it looks like!” Sebastian pleaded.”

“THAT IS ENOUGH!” He yelled as he stood in front of statue of the lady with snake hair to get in a good position to fight against the dark wizards and witches, “Get out of here! All three of you! I am ending this now!”

Ironically it seemed like Rookwood ended the raging exchange of spells and curses with the raise of his own wand. It appeared that he was surrendering peacefully yet the exhausted Phineas knew from the scheming look on Rookwood’s face and his stereotypical smirk, that this battle was far from over.

“You all are foolish, all of you.” He mocked them, “Must I remind you that you are in the lion’s den, and you aren’t even lions. NOBDOY MOVE OR YOU WILL PAY.” The statement confused Phineas but not for long as he noticed Rookwood look towards his right hand man with the bowler hat, Theophilus Harlow

Harlow pointed his wand towards Ominis and harshly yelled “IMPERIO!”

Phineas watched in horror as his friend was struck, he supposed it was better than the killing curse, yet the glowing eyes of his friend, symbolizing that he was nothing more than a puppet, simply unnerved him, and by the look on Sebastian’s face, the feeling was mutual.

“Take the notebook from the black haired boy.” Harlow ordered Ominis, “Go stand next to the the Gorgon statue, and read out the translated runes in parseltounge.”

“Ominis don’t-“ Sebastian tried to stop his friend yet it was clear that he had no mind of his own, not any more.

It hurt Phineas to see his friend speak in the language of snakes that he hated so much as it reminded him of his family. Back when they searched for the scriptorium he only did so to help keep them alive, yet now, him doing so unwillingly, was almost too much to bare.

Phineas watched with wide eyes as the statue came to life. It’s eyes glowed green as if it was about to admit the killing curse. However, he supposed it was the next closest thing because it became a repeated beam that shot at whoever it needed to, friend or foe. Rookwood watched the scene, not caring if his own allies were attacked yet only a couple were strike, along with Sebastian’s uncle, who was the first to turn into a statue of stone at the hands of the Gorgon.

“CONFRINGO!” Rookwood called out and destroyed the Gorgon statue, allowing its spree to finally end.

Phineas looked at Sebastian his eyes were just as wide. He knew he didn’t agree with his uncle, yet seeing him as a statue seemed to bring some new feelings into Sebastian that Phineas couldn’t quite decipher as easily as runes.

“Leave boy, go back to Hogwarts and don’t turn back.” Harlow ordered.

“Yes sir.” Ominis obeyed, still as helpless as a puppet and hurried off.

One by one, Rookwood and his cronies apparated, taking the stone sleeping statues of their colleagues as they went. Soon, only one remained with the Phineas, Sebastian and the statue of Solomon Sallow. A man with long red hair and a left blue eye and a right grey eye. Phineas recalled someone refer to the man as Loki Godfrey. However, just as Phineas got a good look at the man, he transformed into a new form, looking practically identical to Ominis Gaunt.

In near perfect timing, Anne came running towards the castle, gasping at the sight of Solomon, “What happened!”

“It was Sebastian.” The fake Ominis assured her, “I tried to stop him but he was out of his mind, I am afraid your uncle is practically dead.”

“He’s lying!” Sebastian pleaded to his sister, “That’s not Ominis, Anne you have to believe me! Please!”

“I have heard enough!” Anne snapped, clutching her side as Phineas assumed another series of pain coursed through her body. She seemed to spot the spell book Sebastian had been studying, which miraculously had escaped the battle unscathed, however, Anne changed that fact with a simple spell, “Incendio!”

“No!” Sebastian yelled out as the ancient spell book burst into flames, he attempted to extinguish them, but it was too late, the pages, already weak due to the passage of time, had turned to ash.

Anne walked closer to the statue of Solomon and placed her hand on his stone face with a melancholic look and seemingly trying to not express any tears as she glared at Sebastian, “You made your choice Seb, stay away from me!” She ordered as she clung to the statue and apparated away with it, and not too long after, the imposter of Ominis seemed to run off to join his colleagues on the run.

Phineas was brought back to reality when Sebastian placed his hand on his shoulder, “Come on, we need to find Ominis, he is the only one who can talk sense into my sister.”

“But your spellbook.” Phineas reminded him, “All of your research.”

“I don’t care about that anymore at the moment.” Sebastian assured him, “curing Anne will mean nothing if she sees me as nothing more than a monster.”
