First Day

After the airport, we will go to my father's house. We took the MRT, but you can also take the bus. Our flight to the house takes more than 2 hours. We had four stops to change trains. There are different MRT lines in Singapore, but our line is the red line, better known as the NS (North-South Line). There is a map for each station that you can see, and it says how many hours or minutes it will take you to get to your destination.

 

When we got off at Sembawang Station, we found many stalls, food courts, and convenience stores. and after we cross, there's a mall, so you won't get bored and hungry there. When we left the mall, we saw the bus stop, but that was only an option because you can also walk to your house if you are close. In our case, we were at the end, so we took the bus. When we got off the bus, there was a food court, better known as Hawkers, and there was also a convenience store.

 

I just noticed that here in the Philippines, the driver is on the left side, while in Singapore, it is on the right side. Also, the people there are really disciplined because when they actually cross, it is only on the pedestrian line, and they wait for the green light before crossing.

This Western dinner is from Astons Specialities at Sembawang Shopping Centre. Mum only seems to like the Crispy Fried Fish (S$11.50) here citing the crispiness of the bread crumble coated fish fillet. Got for her onion rings and tasty rice for the two side dishes.

I went for the limited time Spanish Chestnut Pork (S$17.90) with my pick of coleslaw and house salad. The juicy and flavourful pork is still a little pink inside, just the way I like. The dish comes with a small cup of apple sauce at the side.

Gave 5 stars: Sembawang - Kamaladevi Aravindan. It was such a beautiful narration of the Tamil and Malayalee population situated in and around Sembawang across 3-4 generations. I have never seen such strong female leads in a Tamil book in so long. It was truly a mind-opening book that made me rethink what true love, familial bonding, acceptance and values are. 5 stars. I only wish I could meet the author and talk to her more about the book’s inspiration. 

Gave 2 stars: It would go to Air Head - Meg Cabot. It was not bad but with a lead who prides so much on feminism, I feel that the story could have taken a different turn to bring into focus the actual message it wants to give. The book had a lot of potential but could not reach it. I know it’s chick-lit vibes when it comes to Meg Cabot but she could have done so much with it. 

Didnt finish: 20000 leagues under the sea - Jules Verne. Very difficult vocabulary but not surprised given the genre HAHA.
