(Finger for scale on the centipede)

big female Scutigera coleoptrata,

Enchenopa binotata group (not sure what it’s eating, but there’s no names yet for the different undescribed species that specialize on different foods),

and a juvenile Oncometopia, probably orbona.

A few days ago we visited our field site to do some cleanup and preparation for summer experiments. We found these guys on our kudzu plants - called the broad headed sharpshooter, the scientific name is Oncometopia orbona. The bright white spots on the wings of these individuals are telling - they are madde of a waxy substance and will cover the eggs that these adult females are about to lay.

Flat colors? Fine, I suppose. Clean lineart? You're never gonna see it, kid. Never. Gonna. See it.

The point of this blog is to try and train myself back into having drawing be relaxing and fun again! That means regularly posting WIPs, warm-ups, and the like, instead of overthinking myself into nonexistence.

- Working on finishing this oviraptor from several years ago. She will eventually get feet. Maybe some other life forms as company.

- This Guy ousted a more complete WIP of Undyne; luckily my friend, who requested her, is too cool for tumblr and will never find out. :D

- If all goes as planned, Okuu and Aya should be pretty bright by the end, even though it looks like mud now. No lolis on this blog, just creatures that sometimes wear poorly-fitted human suits.

- Sunk 90% of drawing time this week completing/restarting the hell out of this sketchbook scan, but now I have a much better handle on using Krita, so it worked out, I guess.

Being the hired help in someone else's scheme means mostly waiting around until your bite force or technology is required. Waylon is delighted to find someone who will listen to him instead of talking over him. (He declined a cup of tea, though -- he's a coffee man.)

Hatter's color scheme is inspired by the gorgeous broad-headed sharpshooter (Oncometopia orbona) spotted chilling on my privet hedge one evening. Alas, I did not get a picture; it was very shy.
