GREETINGS, TF2 COMMUNITY.
skill always beats luck. Be real, be good players.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some alerts that can tell us if a player is a Bot:
•There are two or more players with the same username in the game.
•They usually use Sniper and are aiming up or spinning.
•Check their game statistics, they are usually at the top of the player rankings.
•Other players who usually have Sniper on are not attacked by this bot.
•They have users like "omegatronic", "hexatronic", "sydney", "Electric gem", "Lila rain", etc, etc.
Together we can stop the threat, and make TF2 a better place for everyone. Every time I go there makes a bot, remember to take a photo of their username, start a votekick, and be on the lookout to eliminate any suspicious players

Why Team Fortress 2 Is Still So Amazing #savetf2
Tumblr media
Anybody who hops on social media today, especially Twitter, may notice a hashtag being thrown around. #savetf2. Might be a bit confusing if you’re out of the loop, so let me fill you in. Team Fortress 2 is an online team based first person shooter where a player can choose 1 of 9 unique classes to help their team complete an objective of some kind, key it capturing the enemy intelligence, delivering a nuke in a cart to their base or trying to capture the entire map. The game has been wildly popular since it came out . . . but for a while now it has been the target of a major problem. See, nowadays if you were to hop into a casual match you would be bombarded with what’s come to be known as “bots”. Bots are artificial intelligence pretending to be players who enter lobbies with the express purpose of ruining the game for everybody. They blast obnoxious music over their microphones, spam the text chat, get cheap kills with an automatic aiming system and, if enough of them get into a game, they vote to kick actual players for no reason at all until bots have complete control over the server. They pretty much always come in the form of the Sniper aiming their gun up to the sky at all times and most commonly have names like “m4gic” or “OMEGATRONIC”. So if you ever hop into a game and you realize that there are a suspicious amount of Snipers on the field (like  . .  .even for Team Fortress 2 standards) You’re probably gonna be forced to search for another game if you even get a chance to play at all. This is a HUGE problem that has been going on for years and the developers of TF2, Valve, have done NOTHING to address this issue. They still release small updates here and there, usually new cosmetic kits for the holidays, but not so much as a word about the bot issue. So today, genuine fans of the game are all coming together to make a big noise about the issue that Valve HOPEFULLY cannot ignore. Many popular Youtube creators like Elmaxo and LazyPurple are getting in on it. Game journalist websites all over are reporting it AND it’s been trending on Twitter for a while now. It’s starting to get real attention and my hope is Valve realizes they can’t put this off anymore.
Now, outsiders looking in might think to themselves . . . what’s the big deal? Team Fortress 2 is a 15 year old online game that hasn’t had a significant update in years. Why go through this exercise when other games are all the rage nowadays? Well, it would seem that despite its age and despite its apparent problems with the bots, Team Fortress 2 has a LOT of staying power. The fans who love it REALLY love it. It’s not just a nostalgic memory for them: It’s something they can come back to and enjoy no matter what year it is . . . if they can get into a decent match that is. I still play occasionally and in the 1 of 10 times I’m not being swarmed by bots the game is as fun and charming as it ever was. To put it simply . . .  Team Fortress 2 is timeless. But what exactly is it about TF2 that gives it its evergreen quality? I think it comes down to these 3 factors: A great and charming art style, memorable characters and great all inclusive game modes.
A Great and Charming Style
Tumblr media
You know how, for decades, the number one goal for a lot of video games and their developers has been to be as realistic as possible? Getting attention by pushing the limits of their graphical capabilities and having the whole selling points of their game be their hyper realistic textures and their anatomically accurate character models? Yeah, this is a very overrated philosophy in my opinion, because it was one big glaring weakness . . .  .your game is destined to age poorly. Sure, your game will be the most realistic game on the market for its time and will be noteworthy for that reason, but it’s only a matter of time before the next thing comes along to top it, and then something comes after that and so on and so forth. Games that you thought looked just like real life back in the day aren’t as easy to go back to nowadays, I guarantee it. I’d like to share a quote that I swear by from the great director, Stanley Kubrick
“Real is good, but interesting is better”
You should always strive for interesting over realistic. Something that will stick out in people’s minds and something that doesn’t lose its edge with time. Team Fortress 2 achieves precisely this. The character designs are crisp and meaningful and the cartoony graphics make the game a pleasure to come back to regardless of what year it is. This game has something better than realism. It has STYLE. It has FLAVOR. The Incredibles-like art style has kept this game fresh for over a decade in spite of how much the times have changed and it’s going to continue doing so for years to come. This is especially striking when you know that, during this games development, there WAS  point in time when it was going for a grittier and more realistic look. I don’t think it would have aged NEARLY as well if it stuck to that.
Memorable Characters
Tumblr media
What’s perhaps even more memorable than this games art style is it’s unique cast of characters. You know them all even if you don’t play. It’s the smart mouthed Baseball player from Boston, the Scout. The insane all American Soldier. The mysterious and terrifying, but also sort of adorable, Pyro. The alcoholic black Scottish cyclops Demo Man. The large scary Russian man and poster boy for the series, Heavy weapons guy. The gun slinging Texan Engineer. The mad but reliable German doctor without a license, the Medic. The strictly professional Australian assassin, the Sniper. Last but not least, the suave and cunning French backstabber, the Spy.
A bunch of regional and/or ethnic stereotypes? Yes. Absolutely. But they are all so wonderful and memorable and you just can’t help but love all of them. It’s not just shooting another jobber in a green helmet in this game: there’s a face to the one you’re killing and who killed you. These characters and their immeasurably talented voice actors (including the late Rick May as Soldier, R.I.P) allow the game to just OOZE with charisma. You don’t just come back to this game for its fun game modes, you come back for these guys. But that said . . . .
All Inclusive Game Modes
Tumblr media
There are so many ways to play TF2 with game modes that are all fun in their own ways. You got capture the flag, where you and another team compete to see who steals each other’s intelligence first. You got Payload, where one team tries to deliver a nuke in a cart to the other team’s base while the other team defends until the time runs out. You got King of the Hill, where teams compete to see who can hold onto one control point for a combined total of 5 minutes first. All these game modes and more offer an exciting new way to play the game that’s much more meaningful than just seeing who can get the most kills. See, this game really puts the “TEAM” in Team Fortress 2. all the classes have very clear strengths and weaknesses and they can only achieve by working closely together. The game encourages you to switch up your play style mid game to meet the needs of your team . . . even if a lot of players don’t answer that call because they insist that they should be the ones to play sniper. But what’s cool about this is that, regardless of your skill level in first person shooters, EVERYONE who plays can contribute SOMETHING to their team. Maybe you can be a super reliable Medic who keeps up your team’s sustain in a fire fight and always knows the right moment to uber. Maybe you can be an Engineer who knows the perfect spots for teleporters and sentries to give your team real momentum over the competition. Maybe you can be a Spy who bides his time and picks his targets carefully, sapping sentries and backstabbing medics and heavy’s, giving your enemies the crack in their armor your team can exploit. The beauty of this game is it pushes the team aspect far more than the individual score and you’re rewarded more for completing objectives than getting a high kill count.
But if competitive isn’t your scene, there’s also co-op in Mann vs. Machine, where you and a bunch of friends can stand together against a seemingly endless horde of robot doppelgangers (which, in retrospect, is very fitting given the current situation). It’s awesome.
Conclusion
Tumblr media
All in all, TF2 is a fantastic game and it’s really no mystery why it still has so much going for it at 15 years old. Competing developers could really learn a lot from what makes it so iconic. In my opinion, it’s only real flaws are due to things that have nothing to do with the game itself. Things like the overflow of bots and Valve’s negligence about that issue. We need to show Valve that we STILL CARE ABOUT THIS GAME. This doesn’t belong in a pile of other games that fell off after 2007 and Valve should stop treating it like that. It’s time to be better. It’s time to save Team Fortress 2.
