I was very productive today. I got a new laptop and got that set up. Cleaned, did some Physics, stretched, did my nails. I've been cutting down on my coffee intake. Down to 2 cups a day.
Diplodocus' type species, D. longus, is known from two complete and several fragmentary caudal vertebrae. Several more complete specimens have been attributed to D. longus, however, detailed analysis has found that the original fossil lacks necessary features for comparison with other specimens. For this reason, D. longus is a nomen dubium, which is not ideal for a type species, especially one of such a well-known genus. A petition to change Diplodocus' type species to D. carnegii was considered, however, this was rejected, and D. longus remains the type species.
