Today, Minecraft developer Mojang announced it's developing a brand new version of the game specifically for Chinese consumers. 'Minecraft' with a Story isn't as Bizarre as you Think.

A narrative-driven game like Minecraft, the block-building phenomenon that is loved by both adults and children alike, may sound tad odd. By design, Minecraft has little in the way of plots or characters. The world is randomly generated and the most memorable "stories" happen naturally depending on what you decide to create and explore. The game's open nature is what makes it different and the reason Minecraft: Story Mode, a spin-off title with a well-crafted plot has been doubted by many. Minecraft works because it doesn't have a plot. Is it possible, or right for another developer to create one?

Telltale Games is most well-known for its adventure games that are adapted of popular franchises like Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Fables. As opposed to Minecraft these properties are based with established stories, characters and mythology that the team can collaborate with. Utilizing its own game engine and comic book-style art style, Telltale typically offers a game "season" comprising five episodes. These episodes are broken down into cutscenes and a series of conversations. It is possible to walk around an environment. But, there's little exploration or imagination. Story Mode includes many elements that are familiar to players of the original game. Episode 1 features portals, beacons, and creepers that are all easily identifiable. Telltale's innovative ideas, such as a colorful amulet that could be used to locate important characters, aren't out of their place within the Minecraft universe. Story Mode is respectful to the original game by expandingit, but not compromising Minecraft's existing items and gameplay.

The pace is slow at first however, once the Endercon building competition ends, the plot kicks into a much higher gear. Telltale introduces the Order of the Stone, the heroes of the Order of the Stone who once defeated the Ender Dragon but then disappeared into legend. They are the ones responsible for the current peril that is threatening the world. Telltale sets up a few of the major mysteries for the five-part series. The show isn't anything extraordinary however, I'm intrigued enough to watch the remaining episodes.

Story Mode is designed to be a family-friendly. There are limitations to the writing and Telltale's capacity to use its cheerful characters. Other properties it has adapted in the past, like The Walking Dead and Fables (The Wolf Among Us) have given the team more chances to create characters that are darker and more unpredictable with clever strategies. These properties trigger more intense reactions from the player, making more difficult choices and more complex relationships with the characters you pick. The majority of Story Mode's characters are likeable (aside from Jesse's friend Axel, who tends to be self-centered and impulsive) and I spent most of my playthrough just trying to be the best friend with everyone.

However the characters are distinct and have unique personality traits that make them lively. All of them have distinct motivations and goals that make it easier to anticipate the outcome of every dialogue choice. Although the previous games by Telltale had some issues with uneven writing and pacing but they always made me care about the characters. Story Mode is no different and is a testimony of the quality of the writing. While Jesse's friends may be a bit superficial, they're easy to support. I really would like my "Nether Maniacs" (early on, you get to choose your team's name during the building competition) to endure and remain together, which is why I'm eager to see how the show tries to pull them apart in later episodes.

Even if you have never played Minecraft before, there are plenty of things to do in the first chapter of Story Mode. It's a charming, if simple tale that features intriguing characters and memorable sets. In terms of game design, it couldn't be more different from Minecraft however, somehow Telltale has managed to make it work. I'm putting it down to the quality of the writing and how it cleverly integrates classic items like monsters, gameplay mechanics, and monsters. "You can't fit Minecraft, such a complex game, on this," Nisshagen said. The developers decided to look at the world from a top-down viewpoint rather than the first-person view. They wanted to create a world full of possibilities for discovery and surprises.

"You cannot take the entire Minecraft game," he said. You need to simplify it but keep it simple. We increased exploration and the sense of adventure. The players must feel like they're in the middle of an adventure. Then we consider the imagination and creativity Minecraft players have when they design the amazing things in the game. We try to let them utilize it in our progression system, I think.

Minecraft Dungeons doesn't use a traditional, RPG-style progression system, and it doesn't force players to take on specific roles. Instead of being restricted to a single class like "healer", "tank" or "tank" players are able to swap out their gear and mix items to give weapons any abilities they need.

Nisshagen stated, "You can think about the possibility of transforming that progression system thought into a sandbox." There are no boundaries. You are free to do whatever you want.
