I am addicted to the Mostly Intact fanfic, and now I prefer Big Brother Miguel over Parental Miguel because, holy cow, the sibling dynamics between Miguel and Miles in this fic are on point!!

Ok, so I know that we still know pretty much nothing about Alastor’s human life, and Rosie’s if she had one, but there’s so many reasons their dynamic is peak. Before I start I’ll once more reiterate that I’m not 100% certain of any of this but-
Alastor and Rosie seem to come from a similar time period. With Alastor living in the early 1900s and probs dying in 1920s or 30s in New Orleans. Rosie and her town seem to be based on ‘Hello, Dolly’ (ep 7 title even alludes to this) which was based in New York in 1890s. So not only would Alastor and Rosie likely never have the chance to meet in life but there’d also be a roughly 20 or more year difference between them. What I’m getting at is that while they’re so perfectly matched they’d never really be able to interact the way they do in hell if they were alive. Like imagine 20 yo Al dancing/gossiping/whatever with a 40-50 yo Rosie, while cute to us they’d probs be considered weird for their friendship, let alone a potential (lavender) marriage.
If Rosie was once a human then I’d imagine just like Alastor her cannibalism in hell would come from her interest in it from when she was alive. So that’d mean in life she’d likely also be a serial killer cannibal, just like Al. This creates a funny situation where they just so happen to be the exact same type of serial killer, meaning they lead very similar lifestyles and only they would actually understand this twisted part about each other.
Then in hell Rosie recreates and manages to maintain the early 1900s look and culture in her turf, but makes it cannibal friendly (lol). In this way kind of creating the perfect corner of hell for herself (and also Alastor).
What I’m getting at is that they’re qp soulmates who can meet and freely interact in an afterlife that’s kinda perfect for them (including the part where they’re allowed to be cruel). Like when ppl say you’ll meet your soulmate in heaven but those two are crazy so for them it’s meeting their perfect soulmate in hell.

dont forget your supply pack when u go out adventuring
(lately I've been thinking about what happens to them after, once the whole brain worms thing has been taken care of. I think they'd stay in Baldur's Gate for a while, fix up that one lil house that you see in the camp in low town. Jaheira probably tries to recruit Khael in the Harpers, which he always declines, but he does help out. he's mostly interested in information and connections, as he's looking for a way to let Astarion walk in the sun. Astarion remains hopeful, but much more interested in making a new life for himself than trying to get rid of his sunlight sensitivity.)

instructions for a good weekend:
go teach yourself rollerblading without watching a single youtube video.
lose control repeatedly.
fall flat on your ass repeatedly.
bruise your tailbone so badly that it hurts to sit down.
(repeatedly.)
become aware of how your body moves in new and exciting ways.
laugh when your sixty-five-pound dog tries to sit on your lap to make you feel better and gets drool all over your glasses.
do all of this in the deserted streets of a golf community you do not live in that bears more resemblance to that creepy-ass town in the wrinkle of time than anything human.
go to walmart for that adhesive you've been meaning to get for three weeks so you can repair the two mugs that you broke within ten minutes of each other.
leave walmart with the adhesive and a cute hedgehog mug and a bag of mandarins and a discounted box of cinnamon rolls.
eat three of the six cinnamon rolls before you pull into your apartment.
text your brother who you have not had a proper conversation with in four years but your parents have been keeping you updated on his comings and goings and he's just moved to south korea to teach english so to hell with it if you're ever going to attempt to bridge a gap it might as well be now.
reply to your brother's response and commiserate over terrible supervision and toxic workplaces.
try and fail to repair your mugs.
get adhesive all over your fingers.
try and succeed in repairing your mugs.
feel accomplished. feel good. feel more human than you have in a week.
do not forget this feeling.
write.
eat another cinnamon roll for dessert.

Hi! I came across your post answering an ask ahout your most ✨controversial takes✨ on the world of dogs from back in April.
I read that you thought the AKC should not allow "professional handlers", and saw that you also seemed to distinguish these from breeders and owners. I've never given it much thought, but I think I would've assumed a handler was just another word for "owner" on my own.
What's the difference between these things, and why do you take your stance against handlers?
(I can infer what a breeder is as opposed to the others lmao, so I guess I'm asking about owner vs handler vs "professional" handler)
In dog conformation the dogs are handled by a handler when they go into the ring. This handler does not have to be the owner and in many instances is not. Professional handlers are just what they seem: people that handle dogs at dog shows for a living. A good handler knows how to make the dog look good, not just from a grooming standpoint, but when moving around a ring. Hiring a pro handler outsources this knowledge, time needed, and skill to somebody else.
There are several problems with this for me:
1.) dog shows, especially at the upper levels, are highly politicized. Hiring the ~right~ handler could give your dog the upper hand from a dog of equal or better value handled by somebody “lesser”. It keeps you and your dogs in the in-crowd.
2.) A dog that shows or “campaigns” a lot becomes known to judges, has more opportunities etc. When dogs are shown by professional handlers the owner/breeder is not always going with them and dogs can be on the road with their handlers going to show after show for months and even years at a time. This is not something the average purebred dog owner can afford.
3.) professional handlers are NOT cheap and conformation dog shows aren’t either. Having the monetary means to hire a well respected pro handler is not feasible for most people. This sets the people who already have the means to compete in dog shows and campaign their dogs year round leagues above people who cannot afford this. This further pinches top dog shows into a 1% that is near impossible to break into for new people, people from marginalized backgrounds, young people, etc.
4.) because of the competitive nature of modern dog shows and it becoming a “sport” instead of an evaluation of the quality of breeding stock you get people willing to look the other way on corrective grooming, poor temperaments, non correct structure to have “their people” win, to have their friends win, to have the people they are connected to win. Dog shows are not an even playing ground and very much an unspoken club of who is “in” and “out”. The culture and ability of hiring pros to take your dog around the country, to groom your dog, to show your dog ensures it stays this way.
In my opinion dogs should be lightly bathed and put into the rings with their owners/breeders/co-owners. Nothing more. This would imo, better level the playing ground and provide more equity in the purebred dog world.

Sometimes, the context makes the "He would Not Fucking Say That" dialogue the only reasonable option.
Nuju, in any Earth-based human AU, would be the first person to tell you astrology is a load of crap. You think you can predict the future using the position of the stars? He will laugh in your face and then give you a two hour rant about why it's total BS.

I don’t know if this is something you’d be interested in, but there’s a fanfic series where Miguel(pre-Gabriella) ends up in Miles’ universe during ITSV and becomes his mentor instead of Peter B. It’s a series called More Like Us by neonbrutalism on AO3
Are you talking about Mostly Intact?
OMG! I KNOW WHICH ONE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!!
Seriously, that fic has helped me through a dark moment in my life, and I love the plot of Miguel replacing Peter B. Parker as Miles' mentor, and I love how Miguel is more of the comic Miguel and not the ATSV Miguel. I could go on and on about the brotherly relationship between Miles and Miguel, the Spider-Men's reluctance to accept Miguel as a real Spider because he's different from them, how Miguel tries his best to be the mentor Miles deserves, and the whole science behind Miguel's canon theory, and the little changes that deviates plot from canon. It's my favorite fic!!!

there's an abandoned dinosaur museum near my house that i've been wanting to check out for a while since apparently most of the statues are in pretty good shape. i finally got the chance to stop by and uhhh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
well. i'm not sure if the shape of these things could ever have been described as 'good'. i would accept 'upright' with a few caveats.
Tumblr media
the stegosaurus has decayed into a deconstructed modern art piece and i honestly think it's better off for it
Tumblr media
the triceratops is probably the best of the bunch, likely because the artists didn't have to worry about making it stand upright. it's easily identifiable, which is more than can be said for this guy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the sign says 'iguanadon'. i have my doubts.
Tumblr media
and of course the star attraction, the only one still remaining upright, the majestic...I think it's a T-Rex? if only because i doubt the sculptors knew of any other large bipedal carnivores, and because the arms are almost comically small.

he looks like he's begging me to put him out of his misery
