In a timeline perpendicular to our own, magic and science exist as a co-binding force of the Universe.
On Earth, with a history which crosses through our own for a few hundred years, an influx of magiactive material has reigned havoc on the magical ecosystem of the planet. With this material powerful countries have begun to make nuclear weapons, using the cover of technological & magical progress as excuse. The Soviet Union & The United States of America are in a tense and quiet standoff wherein tensions have begun to bloom a flower of magiactive Armageddon.
Four games follow this timeline...
i MURDERS OF SAN FRANCISCO
The first game takes place in the midst of the standoff – 1983, San Francisco. A detective named Maximillian Talon gets him, his unwanted partner (Sophi Sophie), and his secretary (Fair Jackson) fired for looking into a serial murderer plaguing the area and targeting “Spellbound” (those who practice spellcasting - witches, wizards, sorcerers, etc) communities, their magical items stolen. Talon and his 2 associates continue to look into the murders as the wealthy daughter of one of the victims pays them handsomely – though they have to keep their operation as under wraps as possible.
ii DAYO FLAVIEN’S OFF DAYS
Just a couple years after the war had ruined both The Soviet Union, the USA, and the rest of the world, the small town of Newgull, Wyoming has found itself relatively unbothered – for the most part. The summer of 1993 is when Dayo Flavien, his fellow student tutor (Delilah), and her best friend (Vanni) decide to look into the unsolved case from earlier that year in which one of their very boring teachers suddenly went missing. They end up breaking into his house and discovering a chip of a “Ghost Rock” , a stone that is made of the pure hardened Soul. Before they all head off to college after the summer ends, they want to figure out what a powerful magical artifact is doing here, and who could be after it.
iii GHOSTIES!
As the world continues to recover, Tai’s little brother goes missing in the year of 2002. In 2003, their parents decide to move houses. An aspiring paranormal investigator themself, they decide to do a small “investigation” into the house their parents are buying; to their surprise, they discover a rip in reality made by a stuck Soul. Both them and the Soul fall into The Below (the supposed Afterlife). Now stuck away from Earth, Tai and their new ghost friends (Payton & Niall) decide to help them get back to Earth, and maybe even get back themselves – but in order to do this they have to avoid hungry Souls who would love to become living again.
SUNRISE HIGH AND THE EXPERIMENT 203
In 2013, an Unknown Person wakes up in the historical museum and library known as The Sunrise, in the infirmary wing. They do not know who they are and where they are from. Not too long after their wake, they are accepted into a large friendgroup that revolves around two troublemakers and Archivists-In-Training, Seymour and Scotty. Their appearance at the museum begins a chain of events that will rewrite the nature of reality as we, and they, know it.
...After the third and final Failure.

A 30-ton shipment of a chemical that can be used as fertilizer or an explosive is missing from a California-bound railroad car after rail officials confirmed it disappeared during a trip across the West last month.
The railcar, loaded with 61,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate, left Cheyenne, Wyoming on April 12, a Union Pacific spokesperson told USA TODAY Tuesday. Two weeks later it was found empty at a rail stop in the California Mojave Desert, according to a report filed with the federal National Response Center on May 10.
Dyno Nobel, an explosives manufacturer, told local station KQED News the material − "transported in pellet form in a covered hopper car similar to those used to ship coal" − likely fell from a rail car on the way to a rail siding (a short track connecting with the main track) about 30 miles from Mojave in Kern County, just east of Bakersfield.
"The railcar was sealed when it left the Cheyenne facility, and the seals were still intact when it arrived in Saltdale," the company told the outlet. "The initial assessment is that a leak through the bottom gate on the railcar may have developed in transit."
In addition to Dyno, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and Union Pacific are investigating the case.
Neither the FRA nor CPUC could immediately be reached by USA TODAY on Tuesday morning.
'Seal still intact'
Officials told KQED the railcar was transported back to Wyoming where it will be inspected.
"At this point in the investigation, we do not believe there is any criminal or malicious activity involved," said Kristen South, a spokesperson for Union Pacific, who works with its customers to investigate any loss of commodity or damaged freight.
"Our investigation is in its early stages because the customer recently reported the possible loss of fertilizer from one compartment of a multi-compartment railcar," South told USA TODAY Tuesday. "The fertilizer is designed for ground application and quick soil absorption. If the loss resulted from a railcar leak over the course of transportation from origin to destination, the release should pose no risk to public health or the environment."
What is ammonium nitrate?
Ammonium nitrate is explosive under certain conditions. Mixed with something flammable and exposed to flame, it can explode.
Timothy McVeigh used 2 tons of ammonium nitrate mixed with fuel oil to destroy the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people in 1995.
But it's not a danger that exists in many places. That's because the chemical, once a popular fertilizer, is rarely used these days, USA TODAY reported in 2013.
Ammonium nitrate was the main suspected chemical in a Texas explosion that killed 14 people in April 2013.
The explosion at West Fertilizer Co. also injured more than 200 and left at least 50 homes uninhabitable.

🖊️ + Leylo!
!!!! the her!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
leylo is a 28-year-old librarian that lives in the fictional town of point savaford, colorado. it's on the border between colorado and wyoming. it's considered a big town for the area, but that's kinda because there's not much else there.
leylo comes from the oregon/washington border (the borders are important here, they act as transitional places, aka "liminal spaces" or just "liminals" that, if you get really lucky or unlucky, can lead you to a different dimension. all borders can act as these portals, but not all are as strong as others. rural places that ppl travel less are more likely to have a more strong "pull" to another dimension." she comes from the other dimension on the other side of that border (except it's a little hard to tell which dimension is which on the borders, because that's where they blend). she was raised in a cult commune (not getting into that because i think it'd be considered way too edgy/intense by my general tumblr audience). she has 7 siblings (it used to be 10). she is not close with any of them, although she regrets that a little bit in her later life.
she has DID, and has a handful of alters. the only one that really comes up in the story is Mike (i think that was his name? either that or Mack). Mike fronts after Leylo has a huge argument with her siblings, back when she was around 18 or 19, where a lot of stuff was brought up that shouldn't have been. He decides to pack up and run away right then (note: they all got out of the cult before this happened. there was, like, a huge event where the cult was forcefully disbanded, and then all of the kids were sent to inpatient care and then put in foster care. some were adopted immediately, some weren't. leylo and her brother zach were both taken in by the (adoptive*) father of the boy that essentially served as the whistleblower for what was going on in the commune. the father is Oscar, the kid is Marco. so actually she has 8 siblings (11 counting the ones no longer alive) and zach has 9 siblings (12 counting the ones no longer alive). man apparently i love weird complicated families. who could have seen this coming <- has a family structure that is abnormal and therefore hard to explain
ANYWAY. mike decided he was gonna hop on the next greyhound bus and leave. he expected leylo to front again soon and she would go back, but he wanted out. except. she didn't front again. for like 2 or 3 years. so he just traveled via greyhound buses and ended up in Arkansas. here's a visual of how far away that is:
Tumblr media
ID: a map of the united states of america with a web of greyhound bus routes. washington and oregon in the northwest are both very far from arkansas, which is in the south, but closer to the middle of the USA than it is to the east coast. still, you have to pass through at least 7 states to get from the northwest to arkansas, if i traced the lines on the map right. /end ID
according to google maps, it's about a 2 day bus drive, presumably not counting if you miss a bus, do something besides ride the bus, etc. and mike was adventurous. he wanted to explore these places! so he did. he actually didn't really plan on stopping, but he liked arkansas enough when driving through it that he stopped in little rock and stayed. he moved out of little rock, and then out of central arkansas, then to the fictional town of Smallmouth, which rests along the Buffalo River in northern Arkansas. mike started a life there. he got a job at one of the many outdoorsy shops in the area, started dating a girl named jessica, and made some friends.
and then leylo fronted again and was like "what the fuck." she did NOT appreciate the arkansas heat. she did not understand why this woman was texting her on a phone she never bought and didn't even know the passcode to, or why she's being evicted from an apartment she's never been in, but she is! and she goes to her job after the manager calls her and asks why she hasn't come in yet, and apparently "i didn't know i had a job at a bait and tackle shop" wasn't a good excuse. everyone can tell that something is off, especially her coworker (and mike's friend), taylor. he presses her to say what's wrong, and she just says that she wants to go by leylo instead of mike and that she's getting evicted. doesn't mention the memory stuff. so he offers to let her move in with him, as he needs a roommate to afford the house anyway. leylo doesn't fully trust the guy, but mike did, and it's better than sleeping on the street, so she agrees & she moves in (and meets his young daughter, winter) all within, like, a week of randomly waking up in arkansas after 2 or 3 years have passed without you knowing.
taylor and leylo get along even better than taylor and mike did. taylor and leylo are, like, platonic soulmates. the term doesn't do their relationship justice, because i feel like "platonic soulmates" makes the relationship sound "lesser." truly, they are soulmates and best friends and lifetime partners, and also there is no romantic attraction between them. when the true crime community started being A Thing & ppl who were curious about the cult stuff trued to reach out to her, leylo changed her last name to match taylor's. his surname is wallace, and she changed her to gromit. hesitantly takes the role of winter's second parent, and begrudgingly takes the title of "mom," as it's easier than just explaining "i am close friends with her dad, we live together and will for the foreseeable future, there is no romance in this" to her teachers and stuff. all of the teachers are like "don't worry, we're very accepting here ^_^" and she's like "oh cool so you understand platonic lifetime partnerships" but no it just means they're not going to flip their shit that a white kid has a black stepmom. which isn't even what's happening but ok. she attends winter's kindergarten "graduation," then her elementary to middle school "graduation," then takes winter to her middle school open houses, parent-teacher conferences, etc., because taylor starts having a panic attack any time he goes near the middle and high schools (there's only 1 of each in this town).
i bet you might be wondering. "hey. what happened to jessica." so funny you should ask that! leylo did not speak to her. ever. she left her on read. didn't know how to begin to explain that fuckery. jessica lived a town over, so she just. never left town. avoided her at all costs. until one night, another one of leylo's alters fronted & got her in a bit of danger. leylo fronted again before anyone found out, but she called taylor, still freaking out, and they went to the hospital & she was diagnosed with DID. after she got home, she was like, "hey, i should explain to that chick what happened." so she leaves jessica like five paragraphs to wake up to in the morning. and so jessica was like. "well! okay! i spent a lot of time thinking about the different things that could have possibly caused mike to stop texting me, and this was not one of them!"
one day, taylor went missing, and leylo was left with winter. after that, winter came out as trans and changed his name to rowan, and they moved to colorado to be in a better environment for lgbtq ppl. she somehow finessed a job at a library and has a little romance thing happening with a guy who works at the flower shop across the street
*this distinction is important because i am considering making one of the villains, martín, marco's biological dad, and i don't want ppl to confuse martín and oscar. essentially, it started out as: martín and dolores had two kids, laura and marco. laura is about fifteen years older than marco. then it became martín and dolores had one kid, laura, who has one kid, marco. but i am leaning towards changing it back to the original family structure. the reason i had changed it in the first place was to make martín older in order to kinda filter out filler characters in the extended family (because the extended family is VERY important), but a) different ways i can do that and b) not rlly as big of an issue now

Here’s my tf2 merc The Tomahawk
His actual name is kȟaŋǧí ohítikA (Kangee Ohitekah) or Crow for his English speaking crew. He’s Lakota and from Wyoming, USA. He grew up on a horse farm and was raised by his grandma after his parents passed at eight in a house fire. Part of the Offense Crew, Tomahawk isn’t as fast as Scout (who is?) but still quick on his feet and makes up for any speed with arm strength. His primary weapon is dual tomahawks attached with a chain that he can throw and then recall or drag someone closer to gut them. His secondary weapon is a single-action revolver (specifically the colt peacemaker .45 cause I love that gun) and his melee is his hunting knife.
Growing up on Reservation land, he slipped into the role of a protector over his younger cousins and Grandmother. Tomahawk is easygoing but fiercely protective, finding the noise of his fellow mercs somewhat reminiscent of home. He doesn’t have a formal education and had never left the Rez prior to his recruitment. However, he doesn’t feel embarrassment over asking questions or learning new things. In fact, it’s pretty difficult to embarrass him at all, the only thing being the complete center of attention. Tomahawk has a deep fear of fire after getting caught in his family’s barn the night of the house fire and escaping with his hands and leg burned. He also discovered a fear of heights on the plane ride to New Mexico. The friendship that Tomahawk has developed with Pyro has helped to manage his fear of fire while his friendship with Soldier has only worsened his fear of heights.
Working for MANN. has allowed Crow to finally feel like he has a place in the world. There was always a bit of guilt for his enjoyment of hurting those who were a threat to his loved ones, especially since it clearly disappointed his Grandmother so much. Working as a mercenary felt like a breath of fresh air after a lifetime of being stifled. Still, he misses home and sends back most of the money he makes so that his grandmother and cousins can have an easier life. He writes home every week but focuses mostly on the relationships he’s built with the other mercs rather than his work. Sometimes he sends photos as well and is always grateful that he and his family communicate in their native language because some of the teasing from his cousins is best kept private. These letters are also the only chance he gets to not have to use English and finds that sentiment a bonding experience with the others who also speak different languages. Crow likes it when the others ask how to say certain things/what the things he’s says mean, finding that Spy seems the most intrigued, though Crow thinks it’s more that he doesn’t like having a language in his vast collection of knowledge.
In his down time, Crow enjoys going hunting, often with Sniper after the two happen upon one another on one of their individual trips. He’s a big fan of music and has since developed quite the record collection now that he has access to money. He enjoys dancing and he’s actually a pretty good singer but keeps that side of himself a secret. Reading is how Crow learned to expand his vocabulary in his youth and he still reads a lot any time he can. When in need of company, Crow is the type of person to let his companion/companions take the lead with what they would like to do.
Crow is trans and gay. His parents were not the most attentive when they were around and just thought he was a melancholy child. His grandmother, however, cherished him and supported anything that made him happy. While his family is supportive and loving of him, he understands that he’s lucky. Medic preformed the surgeries that Crow wanted after he joined and Crow developed a quick respect for the doctor due to his confidentiality and work ethic.
I’ll post more about his relationships with each of the mercs as I draw more I just wanted to get the basics out first!

A Beginner's Guide to Snowshoeing in USA's Stunning National Parks
Tumblr media
Winter transforms the landscapes of the United States' magnificent national parks into serene wonderlands blanketed in snow. While the chilly season might deter some from outdoor adventures, it's the perfect time for snowshoeing enthusiasts to explore these natural wonders in a whole new light. Strap on your snowshoes and get ready to embark on a thrilling journey through some of the most breathtaking national parks in the USA.
Snowshoeing Basics
Snowshoeing in USA is a fantastic way to experience the winter wilderness. It's relatively easy to learn and doesn't require much equipment. These specialized footwear devices distribute your weight across a larger surface area, preventing you from sinking deep into the snow. With a bit of practice, you'll find yourself gliding across the snow-covered terrain effortlessly.
Essential Gear
Before setting out on your snowshoeing adventure, ensure you have the right gear:
Snowshoes: Choose the right size based on your weight and the type of terrain you'll be navigating. Rentals are available at many national parks if you're just starting.
Clothing: Dress in layers to stay warm and dry. Waterproof, insulated boots are a must. Don't forget gloves, a hat, and moisture-wicking clothing.
Poles: Consider trekking poles for added stability and balance on uneven terrain.
Navigation Tools: Carry a map, compass, or GPS device to help navigate the trails.
Exploring USA's National Parks
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Yellowstone in winter transforms into a magical wonderland adorned with glistening snow. Snowshoeing here offers a unique chance to explore geysers, hot springs, and frozen waterfalls without the crowds. Trails like the Biscuit Basin Loop and the Old Faithful area provide awe-inspiring views and opportunities to witness wildlife in its winter habitat.
Yosemite National Park, California
Yosemite's iconic landscapes take on a different charm in winter. Strap on your snowshoes and trek through the Mariposa Grove to witness giant sequoias draped in snow. Glacier Point Road, when plowed, offers fantastic vistas of Half Dome and the Yosemite Valley.
Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
With a variety of trails catering to different skill levels, Rocky Mountain National Park is a snowshoer's paradise. Trail Ridge Road, when closed to vehicles, becomes an ideal snowshoeing route, offering breathtaking panoramas of the snow-covered peaks.
Acadia National Park, Maine
Acadia's coastal scenery transforms into a serene winter landscape. The park offers various trails suitable for snowshoeing, like the Jordan Pond Path and the Cadillac Mountain South Ridge Trail. Don't miss the chance to witness stunning frozen vistas along the coastline.
Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
Grand Teton's jagged peaks draped in snow create a picturesque backdrop for snowshoeing adventures. Trails like the Taggart Lake Loop and Bradley-Taggart Lakes Trail offer mesmerizing views of the Teton Range and opportunities to spot winter wildlife.
Safety Tips
Snowshoeing in national parks during winter requires preparation and caution:
Check Weather Conditions: Be aware of weather forecasts and trail conditions before heading out.
Stay Hydrated and Fueled: Carry enough water and high-energy snacks to keep yourself hydrated and fueled.
Inform Others: Let someone know your itinerary and expected return time.
Know Your Limits: Start with beginner-friendly trails and gradually progress to more challenging ones as your skills improve.
Respect Wildlife: Observe wildlife from a distance and avoid disturbing them in their natural habitat.
Snowshoeing in the USA's stunning national parks during winter offers a unique and magical experience. From Yellowstone's geothermal wonders to Yosemite's towering sequoias, each park presents its own winter marvels waiting to be explored. Embrace the tranquility and beauty of these snow-covered landscapes while enjoying the adventure of snowshoeing. With the right gear, preparation, and a spirit of adventure, your winter escapade through these national parks will be an unforgettable journey into nature's snowy embrace.

REVIEW
Not My Kind of Hero by Pippa Grant
Starting over is never easy to do but when you have nothing left where you have lived most of your life, have raised your daughter, and the climate is no longer friendly…having a dude ranch inherited from an uncle might seem almost a safe haven to head to with your teenage daughter…maybe…?
What I liked:
* Maisey: recently divorce, mother of sixteen-year-old Juniper, has secrets, more skilled than the part she played in a handyman program she was on for six years with her ex, wants to be the best mother ever to her daughter, also seeking her own best self, not in the market for a relationship no matter how much she might be attracted to Flint
* Flint: math teacher, soccer coach, has commitment issues, had a rough childhood, good friend, giving, caring, kind, rule keeper, very attracted to Maisey, wants what is best for Juniper and her daughter
* Juniper-June-Junie: sixteen, has two years of high school left, loves soccer, wishes her father cared more than he does, wise, doing her best, misses much and not a lot of where she lived before, a good person, has a bright future
* Earl: a bear that pops up from time to time
* Gingersnap: a cow that had history with the town and belonged to Uncle Tony * Uncle Tony: black sheep of his family, a safe harbor for Maisey as a teenager, thought of Maisey and her possible future needs even though they did not see one another often, that his presence was felt even though he was never actually seen in the book
* The slow-burn and strong chemistry and almost soul-connection between Maisey and Flint
* Opal, Charlotte and others in the town who make Junie and Maisey feel at home
* Kory: Flint’s best friend, sounding board, and good person
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* That I Flint and Maisey both wanted what was best for Juniper…though they also wanted to have something for themselves, too
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to…mostly the ex-husband, Dean
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC – This is my honest review.

BLURB
From USA Today bestselling author Pippa Grant comes a rollicking romantic comedy about a single mom and a grumpy math teacher tackling their differences on a Wyoming ranch. I knew fixing up my life with a fresh start on the hobby ranch I inherited in Hell’s Bells, Wyoming, would come with challenges. Things like snow. Wildlife. Local gossip about why my daughter and I are here. But the biggest challenge? My surly new tenant. He’s like a bear. Fascinating from a distance, but don’t get too close, or he’ll bite. His personality should be a good thing. I have no need of a new man in my life. But he’s not only my tenant; he’s also my daughter’s math teacher and soccer coach. I keep running into him. He keeps thinking I need to be saved. Maybe I do, but here’s what I don’t expect: he’s a fixer-upper in need of saving too. And I might be the only woman for the job. Hell’s Bells, help me.
