The #1 song from 50 years ago was the Diana Ross recording of "Touch Me In The Morning ". ________________________ Touch Me In The Morning Songwriters:  Michael Masser and Ronald N. Miller
Touch me in the morning Then just walk away We don't have tomorrow But we had yesterday Hey, wasn't it me who said That nothin' good's gonna last forever And wasn't it me who said Let's just be glad for the time together Must've been hard to tell me That you've given all you had to give I can understand your feelin' that way Ev'rybody's got their life to live
Well, I can say goodbye In the cold morning light But I can't watch love die In the warmth of the night If I've got to be strong don't you know I need to have tonight When you're gone, till you go I need to lie here and Think about the last time You'll touch me in the morning Then just close the door Leave me as you found me Empty like before
Hey, wasn't it yesterday We used to laugh at the wind behind us Didn't we run away and hope That time wouldn't try to find us Didn't we take each other To a place where no one's ever been Yeah I realy need you near me tonight 'Cause you'll never take me there again Let me watch you go with the sun in my eyes
We've seen how love can grow Now we'll see how it dies If I've got to be strong Don't you know I need to have tonight When you're gone, till you go I need to hold you until the tie Your hands reach out and
Touch me in the morning Then just walk away We don't have tomorrow But we had yesterday We're blue and gold and we could feel one another living We walked with a dream to hold And we could take what the world was giving There's no tomorrow here There's only love and the time to chase it Yesterday's gone my love There's only now and it's time to face it

(You Make Me) Even Rock Harder
What does Kiss, or better (You Make Me) Rock Hard have to do with Muhammad Ali?
Oh, quite a lot, but only indirectly. On the film soundtrack and in the film credits for his biopic there is this heart-rending piece of music entitled The Greatest Love of All, which was interpreted by George Benson. In 1977.
However, since I hardly assume that Paul Stanley would have thought of the extremely catchy bridge of this song in 1988 (1) as a source of inspiration for Kiss' planned single release on their forthcoming Best Of album, I am therefore happy to shift our attention to the 1986 version by Whitney Houston. You know, the one that was a number one hit in America, Canada and Australia and mercilessly clogged up the airplay of radio stations and music television worldwide. Whitney Houston's second biggest hit overall, trumped only by her ultra-hit I Will Always Love You from the Bodyguard soundtrack, which sold how many copies? 30 million? No, no, 44 million copies!
Holy Christ! That sounds more like a bit of comprehensible inspiration, doesn't it?
But Rock Hard should actually ring another bell, namely one with the name Diane Warren engraved on it. The lady who is credited as its co-author (2), who happens to be the composer of dozens of hits and dozens of top ten hits by dozens of world stars, all of which I can't and I am not willing to list here because I have something else to do in two hours. Including, and this should go without saying, almost half a dozen of songs for Whitney Houston. Even though that happened a couple of years after Rock Hard, I nevertheless say with a satisfied smile: If that's not a good transition, then I don't know what is.
(You Make Me) Rock Hard and Whitney Houston. Somehow I had always suspected without realizing it. But finally I know for sure.
I will always love You (Make me Rock Hard).
Side Note:
(1) This means, I don't really care if Paul outed himself as a lifelong fan of classic soul. Decades later.
(2) And of course also of Turn On the Night and, ahem, Nothing Can Keep Me From You.
The links are both highlighted and start at the bridges to the chorus. Just listen for yourself:

♫ If You Could Read My Mind ♫ (Redux)
Today’s song is brought to you courtesy of our friend Keith, who planted numerous earworms yesterday with his fun post titled, “I wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then – an encore post”.  Check it out if you haven’t already seen it!  And now, for today’s offering … Written by Lightfoot and released in 1970, this song was inspired by the breakup of his first marriage.  In the liner notes…

"Saving All My Love for You" is a song made famous by American singer Whitney Houston, who recorded it for her debut album in 1985. It became her first single to hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and eventually went Platinum for sales of over 1 million copies. At the 28th Annual Grammy Awards, it won for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
The song caused some controversy for Houston due to its theme of having an affair with a married man. Her mother, Cissy, did not like the scenario described in the lyrics, claiming that the song's message would reflect badly on her daughter. However, later Whitney herself confessed, “I was going through a terrible love affair at the time. He was married, and that will never work out for anybody. Never, no way.”
"Saving All My Love" was originally written by Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin during the 1970s and first recorded by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis for their album but not released as a single. Years later, Masser saw Whitney for the first time in New York when she was singing one of his songs, "The Greatest Love of All". After her performance, Houston told Masser that the song was one of her favorites and later, Masser was chosen by Arista to produce some tracks for Houston's first album.  He offered up "Saving All My Love" and she said she "immediately responded to it, emotionally."
After the success of her previous single, "You Give Good Love", the executives at Arista Records didn't think "Saving All My Love for You" was a good follow up for next single. When Masser heard this, he made a friendly wager with Arista's president, Clive Davis, during one of Houston's performances at the Roxy Theatre in LA. Masser proposed that if all the women got on their feet when Houston started single "Saving All My Love", then Davis would agree that it should be the next single. They did and it was.

Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showin' you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
Do you get what you're hopin' for
When you look behind you, there's no open doors
What are you hopin' for?
Do you know?
Once we were standin' still in time
Chasin' the fantasies that filled our minds
You knew how I loved you but my spirit was free
Laughin' at the questions that you once asked of me
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
Now lookin' back at all we've planned
We let so many dreams just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long before we see
How sad the answers to those questions can be?
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
Do you get what you're hopin' for
When you look behind you, there's no open doors
What are you hopin' for?
Do you know?

Whitney’s third album, I’m Your Baby Tonight, was released 33 years ago this week on November 6, 1990. The first album where she exerted creative control for the first time in her career, she enlisted new jack swing masters Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds along with Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder and previous collaborators Narada Michael Walden and Michael Masser to craft a series of cutting edge R&B in the style of the nascent new jack swing genre.
The album would produce six singles - “I’m Your Baby Tonight”, “All the Man That I Need”, “Miracle”, “My Name is Not Susan”, “I Belong to You” and the Stevie Wonder-featured “We Didn’t Know”. The first four singles reached the top twenty of the Billboard Hot 100, with the first three reaching the top ten and the first two peaking at number one. All six singles reached the top twenty of Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, five of which hit the top ten, three hit the top five and two hit number one. Whitney became the first female solo artist to spawn multiple number one singles off three albums or more.
Peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B Albums chart, the album would spend 22 weeks inside the top ten of the former chart and eight weeks atop the latter chart, eventually being certified four times platinum for sales of four million copies (according to some sources it’s around 4.9 million pure sales and over 5 million US units) in the United States, going on to the tenth best selling album of 1991 and the best selling R&B album of the year going on to win four Billboard Music Awards, all in the R&B category. It also became just the fourth album in history in which a top ten R&B single reached that position in three calendar years (1990, 1991, 1992), with only Michael Jackson’s Thriller, her own Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 and, afterwards, Michael’s Dangerous, accomplishing the feat.
Overseas, the album hit the top ten in twelve countries including Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom and peaked at number one in Greece and would eventually sell around 10-12 million copies worldwide.

Lyrics:
Long and lasting love
Not many people find it
But don't you do their whole life through
Put their hearts and souls behind it
Long and lasting love
Long and lasting love
It's what I've always dreamed of
And when I looked into your eyes
I knew I'd really seen love
Long and lasting love
We've got a once in a lifetime
All the dreams we're waiting for
I'm just beginning to come true
It happens once in a lifetime
When you find the special girl
Who knows the meaning of love like you
Long and lasting love
We share for many reasons
A special bond that caused me on
The changing of the season
Long and lasting love
When our love like goes up here
As care as you through all the years
Long and lasting love
We've got a once in a lifetime
All the dreams we're waiting for
I'm just beginning to come true
It happens once in a lifetime
When you find the special girl
Who knows the meaning of love like you
Long and lasting love
It's what I've always dreamed of
When I looked into your eyes
I knew I'd really seen love

"The Greatest" (1977) is a biographical drama about Muhammad Ali starring the champ as himself and based on his book, "The Greatest: My Own Story," co-authored with Richard Durham and edited by Toni Morrison. The film has a large cast as Ali interacts with many people, from winning in the 1960 Summer Olympics to his win against George Forman in "Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974. Ali has previous acting experience in the 1962 film, "Requiem for a Heavyweight. However, in "The Greatest," his effortless charm carried him throughout because he was a sensation in front of the cameras. This movie reminds me of "Spirit of Youth" (1938), a biographical drama about Joe Louis starring Louis as himself. You get to watch legends tell their stories. Nevertheless, the film is straightforward and has an excellent soundtrack featuring the song "The Greatest Love of All," composed by Michael Masser, written by Linda Creed, and sung by George Benson. I'm a fan of the champ, so I'm a fan of this film. Directors: Tom Gries, Monte Hellman (post director) Writers: Muhammad Ali (book "The Greatest: My Own Story"), Herbert Muhammad, Richard Durham (book "The Greatest: My Own Story") Starring Muhammad Ali, James Earl Jones, Ernest Borgnine, John Marley, Annazette Chase, Mira Waters, Roger E. Mosely, Robert Duvall, Teddy Wilson, Paul Winfield, Lloyd Haynes, Malachi Throne, Lucille Benson, Chip McAllister, Drew Bundini Brown, David Huddleston, Ben Johnson, Dina Merrill Storyline Muhammad Ali stars as himself in this dramatized version of his life story up to the late 1970s. It includes his Olympic triumphs as Cassius Clay, his conversion to Islam, his refusal of the Army draft, and the legal battle after being stripped of his World Title. https://www.daarac.ngo https://www.daaracarchive.org/2009/05/greatest-1977.html

Greatest Love of All - Whitney Houston I believe the children are our future Teach them well and let them lead the way Show them all the beauty they possess inside Give them a sense of pride to make it easier Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be Everybody searching for a hero People need someone to look up to I never found anyone who fulfill my needs A lonely place to be And so I learned to depend on me I decided long ago Never to walk in anyone's shadows If I fail, if I succeed At least I'll live as I believe No matter what they take from me They can't take away my dignity Because the greatest love of all Is happening to me I found the greatest love of all Inside of me The greatest love of all Is easy to achieve Learning to love yourself It is the greatest love of all I believe the children are our future Teach them well and let them lead the way Show them all the beauty they possess inside Give them a sense of pride to make it easier Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be I decided long ago Never to walk in anyone's shadows If I fail, if I succeed At least I'll live as I believe No matter what they take from me They can't take away my dignity Because the greatest love of all Is happening to me I found the greatest love of all Inside of me The greatest love of all Is easy to achieve Learning to love yourself Is the greatest love of all And if, by chance, that special place That you've been dreaming of Leads you to a lonely place Find your strength in love.
