Moments in Kinks-related books that I can't stop thinking about, no matter if it's happy, horrible, or sad :
-Michael Aldred. It was really interesting to see Ray's perspective. It was funny to see how he mentioned the word "friendship" right after writing about how Michael listened to the walls at the Connaught Gardens house. And also, Dave's recollection of their breakup. (X-Ray and Kink).
-Staying on the Michael Aldred topic, the fact that he was already trying to hit on Dave the first time they met during Ready, Steady, Go!. And Dave jokingly(?) punching Pete because... I don't remember what Pete did (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Mitch Mitchell almost joining The Kinks after the Cardiff incident (X-Ray, Kink and Americana I think?).
-["Where the fuck did the Greenlaw come from ?"] (X-Ray, I need to find the page again)
-Ray comparing Pete leaving the band to a divorce. (X-Ray)
-The whole David Watts bit aka. Ray attempts to sell his brother's hand to a man in exchange for a mansion after finding out the guy was gay with Mick's help. Also Mick was dancing around while in birth day clothing (X-Ray and Kink. I'm pretty sure Ray Davies: A Complicated Life also mentioned it).
-The mention of Nobby's picture with the guitar and shovel after he went back to his day job due to Pete coming back in 1966 (X-Ray).
-Mick Avory and his connections with the drag queen community (X-Ray).
-Mitch Mitchell hiding pigeons under his bed (Kink).
-Dave explaining Ray's behaviour with astrology (Kink).
-Everyone (the bros, Mick and Nobby) getting scolded by Grenville, and then Baptist entering the room drunk, in full Viking gear, and blowing a horn. Then Grenville resigned (Kink and Americana).
-Ken Jones' death (Americana and Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Mick falling and hurting his back while in a clown costume (Kink and Americana).
-Mick, a model, and a DJ (X-Ray).
-Mick attracting all the drag queens even though he's "straight" (Ray's words, not mine) (X-Ray).
-The house Dave and Mick (and Michael Aldred !) lived in had to get exorcised after they all left (don't remember which one, X-Ray maybe ?— Actually I think it was Ray Davies: A Complicated Life. Not sure though).
-The "pineapple juice" bit (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Baptist eating a restaurant bill, and then Pamela (one of the backing singers during Preservation era) trying to do the same but not being allowed to (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-The Kinks almost having a punch-up after a concert because Bob asked for a pizza and the brothers "went apeshit" (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Jim getting to go to the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, even though he wasn't inducted (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Chrissie Hynde being scared that her and Ray's house might be haunted, so Ray called Peggy who called Dave for assistance (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Nobby thinking him leaving the Kinks was fated (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-1984 being a bad year for basically everyone (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Gordon having to calm down Mick's murderous intents for half an hour after the latter had to be sent to the dressing room following a fight with Dave (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Baptist dropping college right before his finals just so he could join The Kinks (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Nobby sprinting, diving and swimming Baptist back to the shore after the keyboardist accidentally fell (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-The Early 70s lineup members having nicknames (Nobby for John D, Baptist for John G, Hyde for Dave and One Step for Mick) (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-The "Kinks Hijack Plane" headline. Aka the Kinks got drunk before a flight, Dave went feral and Nobby screaming out of frustration from missing a soccer match (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-"[Ray] Davies was a horrible geezer – a cunt" - Phil May (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Mick and Baptist going Cassandra truth-mode on Andy (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Ray knocking out Baptist during a fight before the encore (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Jim and Gordon contrasting each other (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-The "Psychatrist. Hours open: 10-12" door (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
-Pete jokingly telling John Entwistle to give his bass to "a real bass player" (Ray Davies: A Complicated Life).
Other post I said I would post months ago, but didn't until today. It's a bit dusty because the only modification I did was remove 1 moment because I genuinely didn't know how to feel about that one.

In the new documentary, The Stones & Brian Jones, Bill Wyman talks about Brian Jones' efforts to write a song (with Michael Aldred). And we actually get to hear Brian's voice and melody in a quick outtake. Wyman laments that it was never recorded as a finished song. However, fans have noted that the melody is very present in Jones' soundtrack for the 1967 film, A Degree of Murder. I've put the two clips together, so you can hear the progression, from outtake to soundtrack.

An excerpt of a song musician and Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones wrote with Ready Steady Go! presenter Michael Aldred in 1965. The rare audio was taken from the new BBC documentary, "The Stones and Brian Jones” by Nick Broomfield.

Doctor Who: Remembrance of the Daleks (25.1, BBC, 1988)

In 1963, an alien time traveler known as the Doctor (Doctor 7) and his companion Ace returned to 1963, Totter’s Lane Junkyard where the Doctor (Doctor 1) and his granddaughter picked up their first human companions. The Doctor and Ace had to help the military prevent two warring factions of a Dalek Civil War from getting The Hand of Omega. However, the Doctor had a secret lethal agenda known only to himself. On a technical note, the serial introduced the "Skeleton Effect" when Daleks kill their victims. ("An Unearthly Child"/"Remembrance of the Daleks", Doctor Who, vlm 1 TV)

Thomas the Tank Engine series 3 UK VHS release observations
Following on from previous posts covering Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends series 1 and 2 VHS releases, I thought I'd cover series 3's releases.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Compared to the first two series, which were both produced in a single block of 26 episodes, series 3 was filmed in two blocks; series 3A, which comprised of the first 16 episodes (A Scarf for Percy to Edward, Trevor & the Really Useful Party), and series 3B, comprising the remaining 10 episodes (Buzz, Buzz to Thomas & Percy's Christmas Adventure). The reason for this split production was likely to met a deadline for American TV networks, as TTTE was being made for international audiences by that time. Series 3A was filmed in 1991 and it was decided to wait until all 26 episodes were ready before broadcasting on television. Instead, the 16 episodes of series 3A were released direct to video on the 11th of November 1991, with two video releases containing eight episodes each; Time for Trouble & Other Stories, containing A Scarf for Percy to Diesel Does it Again and Trust Thomas & Other Stories, containing Henry's Forest to Edward, Trevor & the Really Useful Party. These two releases were the first to feature this cover design, designed by Britten Ellis McKean, and they featured the so-called "early narrations", which were Michael Angelis' first narrations for the series. These early narrations differ from the later televised versions of the episode in that Angelis' narration is considerably softer and the episodes often lack music cues heard in the televised versions. Incidentally, the cover image of Time for Trouble & Other Stories is a deleted scene from Thomas, Percy & the Dragon, while the cover image of Trust Thomas & Other Stories comes from Trust Thomas.
Tumblr media
Series 3B was filmed in early 1992 and broadcasting of the whole series on television began with A Scarf for Percy on the 25th of February that year. Once again, the episodes were broadcast on CITV, though they seemed to alternate between single episode broadcasts and double-bills. Prior to the CITV broadcasts, the 16 episodes of series 3A had their narrations re-recorded, with Angelis now sounding considerably more enthusiastic and the missing music cues added. The Video Collection decided to re-release the two VHS releases with the updated narrations and so Time for Trouble & Other Stories and Trust Thomas & Other Stories were both reissued on the 25th of May 1992, both now featuring the later narrations for the episodes. The re-release of Trust Thomas & Other Stories can be readily distinguished from the early release by the addition of an "as seen on ITV" label on the cover. Strangely, this distinction was not applied to Time for Trouble & Other Stories, so the re-release shares the same cover as the early release. I had the later release of Trust Thomas & Other Stories and it was one of my favourite videos when I was little.
Tumblr media
Unlike series 3A, the 10 episodes of series 3B were broadcast on television first, with no early narration variants. The broadcast of series on CITV concluded with Thomas & Percy's Christmas Adventure on the 14th of July 1992. The 10 episodes of series 3B received a home video release two months later on the 14th of September, being released on Escape & Other Stories. It's worth noting that this video was released on the same day as the re-releases of series 2 mentioned in my series 2 post. Compared to the other two series 3 videos, Escape & Other Stories is the only one of the three to not feature an image on the cover that's from an episode on the video, as the image of Thomas is taken from Trust Thomas. A final note before moving on, all three series 3 releases were reissued on the 22nd of November 1993 with the addition of a promo at the beginning for various children's videos narrated by Ace herself, Sophie Aldred, though the covers remained the same.
Tumblr media
As mentioned in the series 2 video post, The Video Collection released Ghost Train & Other Stories/Time for Trouble & Other Stories on the 29th of May 1995. This was a compilation of Time for Trouble & Other Stories and the 1992 series 2 re-release Ghost Train & Other Stories. The packaging for the video is misleading as it claims that Ghost Train & Other Stories comes first on the video, but in actuality, Time for Trouble & Other Stories comes first. Also worth noting that during this period, The Video Collection/VCI releases numerous compilation videos combining episodes from all series of TTTE. Series 3 featured quite prominently on many of those videos, but they're a story for another post. 1995 also saw The Video Collection rebrand as VCI, so all subsequent videos come under the VCI name.
Tumblr media
In 1998, VCI released all of series 1 in one VHS boxset and series 2 followed suit in 1999. Continuing this trend, VCI released Thomas & Friends: The Complete 3rd Series on the 29th of May 2000. This was a a two-video box set containing all 26 episodes of series 3. The first tape contained the first 13 episodes (A Scarf for Percy to Trust Thomas), while the second tape contained the remaining 13 episodes (Mavis to Thomas & Percy's Christmas Adventure).
Tumblr media
On the 6th of November 2000, VCI decided to re-release Time for Trouble & Other Stories. Quite why they did this I don't know, but the festive cover design causes me to think that it might've been intended as a Christmas stocking filler. The new cover image comes from Thomas Gets Bumped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the 3rd of September 2001, VCI re-released Escape & Other Stories and on the 5th of November, they re-released Time for Trouble & Other Stories yet again. Quite why this was done I don't know. These re-releases share the same cover images as their original 1991/92 releases, but with a new cover design. The episodes remained the same as before. These would be the last VHS releases of series 3. Series 3 would receive it's first DVD release in 2004 and would be released again in 2010 and 2012.
That concludes my look at Thomas the Tank & Friends series 3 UK VHS releases. Not as simple as series 2, but not as complex as series 1. Series 4 is where it gets very complex to explain.

There's one moment in X-Ray that I keep thinking about since I've read it : the one in page 245.
Tumblr media
After finishing X-Ray, I dived a bit on the Internet to search for some information about Michael Aldred and found this extract from Andrew Loog Oldham's autobiography ?
Tumblr media
The whole "falling in love" bit explains a lot about Michael's behaviour.
Updating this after reading the section in "Kink" that mentions Michael.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And combining what all these books said about him, it seems that he fell in love a lot, but none of his relationships lasted a long time. I wonder if he ever managed to find real love...
I found more interesting stuff about Michael Aldred.
Tumblr media
First meeting and already trying to hit on Dave. Wow.
Now I just imagine Pete laughing in the background
Tumblr media
That adds more stuff to the Andrew Loog Oldham bit about Michael's personality...
Also I keep forgetting he actually lived in the Connaught Gardens house.
Sorry if this is quite awkward, I wrote this while literally starting to get into the Kinks, so almost a year ago, I think? Tried to fix some sentences a bit, removed others, but I'm unsure I got it right. This post was basically just me trying to find mentions of Michael Aldred since there was almost nothing on the net.

Companions Original Post List
Color Sorted by what Hogwarts House I Think They're In.
First Doctor (Many of his episodes are missing so companions often appear and disappear)
Susan Foreman/Arkytior (High Gallifreyan for "Rose) (Played by Carole Ann Ford) - Fifteen-Year-Old Gallifreyan Granddaughter of the Doctor left behind when she fell in love but she left to fight in the Time War and it is presumed that she died.
Ian Chesterton (Played by Ian Russell, aged 99 as of 2023)
Barbara Wright (Played by Jacqueline Hill, Tragically died in 1993 of breast cancer but her character lives on)
Vicki Pallister (Played by Maureen O'Brien, aged 80 as of 2023; Most of her episodes are missing)
Steven Taylor (Played by Peter Purves)
Katarina (Played by Adrienne Hill, tragically passed away from cancer at age sixty in 1997) - The shortest companion of the first Doctor (I think; she had five episodes and four of them were in the same serial so really two episode adventure-wise) and the first companion of the entire Doctor Who series to die while traveling with the Doctor.
Dodo Chaplet (Played by Jackie Lane)
Second Doctor (Also many of his episodes are missing so companions just appear and disappear)
Ben Jackson (Played by Michael Craze) - Companion of the First and Second Doctor
Polly Wright (Played by Anneke Wills) - Companion of the First and Second Doctor
Jamie McCrimmon (Played by Frazer Hines) -- First Scottish Companion; The Time Lords wiped his mind of any adventures in the Tardis after his first adventure with the Doctor and returned him back to Scotland
Victoria Waterfield (Played by Deborah Watling) -- One of the youngest companions to travel with the Doctor at around fourteen or fifteen however she was a "screaming woman" character and grew tired of the constant dangers and departed.
Zoe Heriot (Played by Wendy Padbury) -- A genius who's intellect impressed the Doctor whoever her memories of traveling with the Doctor and Jamie were erased by the Time Lords.
Alistair Gordon Lethbridge (Played by Nicholas Courtney) -- Perhaps the longest recurring companion of the Doctor, from the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Seventh, he was only mentioned in the revived series until he was cofirmed to have passed in season six.
John Benton (Played by John Levene) -- More of a companion of the Doctor when he was banished the Earth and the Time Lords wouldn't let him use his Tardis (also he didn't know how fly her). John only traveled in the Tardis once in the ten-year anniversary serial: The Three Doctors.
Third Doctor
Liz Shaw (Played by Caroline John)
Mike Yates (Played by Richard Franklin)
Jo Grant (Played by Katy Manning)
Sarah Jane Smith (Played by Elisabeth Sladen)
Fourth Doctor (Played by Tom Baker, the longest Doctor)
Harry Sullivan (Played by Ian Marter)
Leela (Played by Louise Jameson)
K-9 (played Voiced by John Leeson)
Romana I (Played by Mary Tamm)
Romana II (Played by Lalla Ward)
Adric (Played by Matthew Waterhouse)
Nyssa (Played by Sarah Sutton)
Tegan Jovanka (Played by Janet Fielding)
Fifth Doctor (Played by Peter Davison; the start of the family legacy)
Vislor Turlough (Played by Mark Strickson)
Kamelion (Voiced by Gerald Flood)
Peri Brown (Played by Nicola Bryant) -- Interestingly, the actress is British while the character is American and she was forced to speak in an American accent even behind the scenes, only years later when she went to a dinner party did Colin Baker realize she was British, not American; Implications of her backstory added with the violent regeneration the Sixth Doctor had and his attitude towards her make me feel bad for her
Sixth Doctor (Played by Colin Baker; the shortest Doctor in the Classic Series, not counting Paul McGann)
Melanie Bush (Played by Bonnie Langford)
Dorothy "Ace" (Played by Sophie Aldred) -- The last companion on the Classic series.
Eighth Doctor
Grace Holloway (Played by Daphne Ashbrook)
War Doctor (Played by John Hurt)
Ninth Doctor (Played by Christopher Eccleston) -- The shortest main Doctor of the modern series
Rose Tyler (Played by Billie Piper) -- My favorite companion. The companion I started on and the love of the Doctor's life. (Sorry River, Sorry Clara). Companion of the Ninth, Tenth, and Meta-Crisis Doctor.
Mickey Smith (Played by Noel Clarke) -- Not an official traveling companion of the Ninth but got there with the Tenth... for three episodes.
Adam Mitchell (Played by Bruno Langley) -- He was so brilliant to be considered by Van Statten and when he sees the future, he gets surgery to put a door in his head and tries to steal others' ideas when he could come up with his own.
Captain Jack Harkness (Played by John Barrowman)
Tenth Doctor (Played by David Tennant) My favorite Doctor. MY Doctor.
Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate) -- Companion of the Tenth Doctor, Meta-Crisis Doctor/TenToo, and Fourteenth Doctor
Martha Jones (Played By Freema Agyeman)
Wilfred Mott (Played by Bernard Cribbins) Gone but NEVER forgotten. An honorary Noble.
Meta-Crisis Doctor (Played By David Tennant)
Eleventh Doctor (played by Matt Smith) I wasn't sure at first as I was sad to see David Tennant go but Matt Smith definitely lived up to the challenge.
Amelia "Amy" Pond (Played by Caitlain Blackwood and Pre-Nebula Karen Gillan) I love that they got cousins to play young and adult Amy.
Rory Williams (Played by Arthur Darvill)
River Song (Played by Alex Kingston)
Craig Owens (Played by James Corden)
Kate Steward -- Daughter of Alistair Gordon Lethbridge
Oswin Oswald (Played by Jenna Coleman)
