What is the Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic Era on Pregnant Women Sero-Positivity for Syphilis Among Women Attending Antenatal Care in India and Number of Babies Diagnosed with Congenital Syphilis?

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) still continue to be a major public health problem globally, affecting the quality of life as well as causing serious morbidity and mortality. STIs have a direct and significant impact on reproductive and child health. They can directly cause infertility, cancers as well as pregnancy complications, and indirectly affects individual economies. The information on the number of PW found to be sero positive for Syphilis among women attending antenatal care in India and number of babies diagnosed with Congenital Syphilis is collected from HMIS electronic records of MoHFW, Government of India with key objective to know about the impact of covid-19 era i.e., 2020 and 2021 on prevalence of syphilis by comparing it with the pre pandemic era of 2018 and 2019. I collected sero positivity data for Syphilis among women attending antenatal care in India and number of babies diagnosed with Congenital Syphilis across 36 states and union territories of India including all health facilities viz. public, private, rural, urban health facilities. The data is collected, observed and analyzed with Microsoft office software. Among 254705.2 averages per month number of PW (pregnant women) tested using POC test for Syphilis, 2144.4 averages per month were sero positive for Syphilis giving a sero-prevalence of 0.84 % in 2021(Jan to May). Of 175579.75 averages per month number of PW tested using POC test for Syphilis, 855.58 averages per month were sero positive for Syphilis giving a sero-prevalence of 0.49 % in 2020(Jan to Dec). Of 53313.66 averages per month number of PW tested using POC test for Syphilis, 419.33 averages per month were sero positive for Syphilis giving a sero-prevalence of 0.79 % in 2019 (Jan to Dec). Of 11364.75averages per month number of PW tested using POC test for Syphilis, 339.08 averages per month were sero positive for Syphilis giving a sero-prevalence of 2.98 % in 2018 (Jan to Dec).

They can directly cause infertility, cancers as well as pregnancy complications, and indirectly affects individual economies. On daily basis a million (10 lakh) STIs are acquired, in year 2012, 357 million new cases of curable STIs which includes gonorrhoea, chlamydia, syphilis and trichomoniasis occurred mainly among 15- to 49-year-olds individuals globally.

Accused got the benefit of his disease, supported by report of medical board of AIIMS, Previous medical history and settlement arrived with the victims father, though was liable for punishment of touching the girl of 6th standard inappropriately and FIR was quashed by Delhi High Court.

Amanpreet Singh Bedi v. Govnt. of NCT of Delhi & Anr. Crl. Misc. Case 4129/2023 Before Delhi High Court U/s 482 Cr PC The petition was #disposedof by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tushar Rao Gedela J on the basis of #medicalreport coupled with #NoObjection by the #father. Fact 1. According, to the #FIR, on the evening of 29.11.21 @ around 6.30 pm the girl along with her friends was #playing on the #street of his home than an uncle came and stood in the middle and #pushed her back and #touched her #inappropriately she #managed to #escape and went forward side and he went backside. He followed her & moved in the same direction where she moved. She came home and told the incident to her father. Her father chased him and caught him but he managed to escape. 2. The father of the girl informed the same to Police Control Room (#PCR). On 30.11.2021 investigation began. Her #statement was recorded which #corroborated with the #FIRVersion. 3. On the basis of #CCTVFootage installed in the locality, the incident captured was seen & the man was #identified as Aman Preet Sigh Bedi. Submission of the counsel of the Petitioner/Aman Preet Singh Bedi 1. Petitioner is a #patient of #bipolardisorder and in support placed on record the medical documents to show that the petitioner, though a major has no control over his actions. 2. He submitted as per the order of this Court in Bail application a medical board was constituted of the Doctors from AIIMS. 3. As per the #medicalreport the petitioner is suffering from #Psychosis N.O.S. (#NotOtherwiseSpecified) with Borderline Intellectual ability. 4. Parties at loggerheads have settled the disputes and the father of the victim has deposed an affidavit giving to the quashing of the aforesaid FIR. Court Enquired from the father of the girl about the same and he affirmed that he is aware of the said situation and has no objection in case the present FIR is quashed. Observation of the Court In view of the medical records placed on file, it appears that the petitioner was unaware of his actions. 1. Apart from the medical records of Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital and IHBAS, the report of the medical board constituted by AIIMS comprising of four Senior most doctors, that too from the Department of psychiatry #confirmed that petitioner Aman Preet Singh Bedi is #suffering from #Psychosis #NOS (Not Otherwise Specified) with #BorderlineIntellectualability. 2. The medical report, coupled with the no objection given by the father of the victim, propel this Court to quash the aforesaid FIR and the proceedings emanating therefrom. Opinion of the Medical Board 1. The petitioner required regular medical care and supervision and the support of the family members for his compliance to the medical treatment. Order FIR & proceedings arising therefrom is quashed and the present petition is disposed of. Seema Bhatnagar
