Thorns

Pairing: Malleus x Riddle Notes: This is for the fifth day's prompt ("Thorns") of the 2023 TWST Rarepair Halloween event. This is LATE, but is getting posted. It's also only... vaguely about them, being more of a general poem reflecting two similar, but opposing individuals. Both different, yet connected; closely tied. Secluded wither, but supported, thrive. With feelings neither one could ever hide, Together, rose and blackthorn feel alive.

They cling, and twist, and grow in in their own way: The blackthorn takes his time, he ripens slow, The rose, instead grows fast, then wilts away. A balance - summer's heat, and winter's snow.

Both sharp and fierce, though softness also lies Within; a berry dark, a flower red. Their thorns and prickles choke, but too, growthwise, Protect. Their love not harsh, but sweet instead.

Two lovely boys, just like the flora strong, Root in each other's hearts, their whole lives' long.

#twst #twisted wonderland #twst rarepair halloween #rarepair halloween #malleus draconia #riddle rosehearts #malleus x riddle #riddle x malleus #MalleRid #RidMal #<- is that their other ship name? idk #krenenbaker's :) #krenenbaker's creations #and now... for the ramble-y tags #... this took way longer to formulate than I anticipated #and actually took a slightly different route than I thought it would #I did thought a sonnet would fit these two rather well but goodness! finding rhymes for this one was tricky! #but it's done! #also: some facts about these plants #roses (as most people think of them) and blackthorn are both part of the Rosaceae family #the blackthorn berries are also called “sloe”: the type of fruit used to flavour sloe gin #they are astringent and bitter when fresh but when ripe and picked after frosted over are sweeter and more pleasant to eat #blackthorns have actual thorns (a type of shoot) whereas roses have what are called “prickles” - sharp protrusions of tissue #:)
