One thing about Bec McMaster’s writing is that (at least throughout London Steampunk/Blue Blood Conspiracy/Dark Arts) there’s this running theme of consent and bodily autonomy and the lack thereof and the whole gamut of ways in which that affects people that’s really interestingly done and thought provoking. London Steampunk and Blue Blood Conspiracy it’s in the world building before even reaching specific things that happen to individual characters whereas Dark Arts is a little different (although there are definitely points to be discussed about the different bonds), but it’s also not gendered in the way one might expect (which is imo refreshing). Anyway, highly recommend!

Currently reading: You Only Love Twice and To Catch A Rogue by Bec McMaster (The Blue Blood Conspiracy #3 and #4).
Technically, I’m only currently reading To Catch A Rogue since I finished You Only Love Twice last week, but whatever. I’m enjoying the Blue Blood Conspiracy much more than the first two books, and I can already feel that the fifth book is going to be my favorite of the bunch... provided the library ever gets a copy of it! Or I break down and buy the ebook myself.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? #34
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment, and er… add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!
What Did I Read This Last Week?
Modern Love by Beau North, Narrated by Becci Martin
New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Ah, the Millennials. This Baby Boomer had a good time seeing them take the hard way to love. Addiction fighting bi-sexual heroine and bi-racial hero with trust issues. Heartwarming!
Born of Darkness by Lara Adrian, Narrated by Roger Wayne
#1 Midnight Breed- Hunter Legacy
Paranormal Romance
Forged in darkness, Asher just hopes to have peace, but into his life blunders a trouble magnate heroine with the Vegas mob on her tail. Action-packed, passionate, and great start to a spin-off series.
Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko
#1 Al Capon at Alcatraz
Middle Grade Historical Fiction
First in series for a boy and his family moving to Alcatraz when his dad gets a job as a prison guard so his folks can put his sister who has autism into a school in San Francisco that can help her. Hijinks ensue and Moose scores with new friends, baseball, and Al Capone’s help. Great fun!

A long con, settlers, a gambler, a robber gang, and a home where he was least expecting it for this light-hearted yet gritty Western.
Butterfly Swords by Jeannie Lin
#1 Tang Dynasty
Historical Romance
It’s been some time, but this world of lush setting and culture, action, and dynamic characters was engaging through and through.

Chick Lit, Women’s Fic
A reality TV show set in Jane Austen times and a chance to win her Mr. Darcy and a pot of money has middle-aged, divorced and single mom competing with several other women. Only, her eye keeps straying for the prize to the wrong man. Slow moving, but a nice ‘finding herself’ story.
Wild Trail by AM Arthur
#1 Clean Slate Ranch
M/M Contemporary
Opposite attract when broken down actor Wes encounters former SWAT and now cowboy Mack on the ranch. Sizzle and denial, a trip into the wilderness, and the ultimate question of will they or won’t they? Slow moving, but never boring. Spicy hot yet fun.
Inseverable by Cecy Robson
#1 Carolina Beach

Funny and heartwarming, touching and oh so sizzling hot beach reading. Former sniper with PTSD and a woman with a generous heart that was broken by a cheat find each other and summer romance just as she’s preparing to leave in the Peace Corps. Great start to a series!
