Linda calls Danny “Reagan” while they’re dating and engaged just to tease him and make him tease her back. She does it every once and a while once they’re married
Linda holds on tightly to her husband, telling him seriously, “if you die, I’ll kill you.”
“Duly noted,” Danny tries to make a joke, but it doesn’t go over well.
She pulls back enough to look him in the eye, “I’m serious, Danny. I want you coming home to me. I want to wake up next to you tomorrow morning. Okay? Promise me you’ll do that, you’ll be safe and won’t die.”
He can’t really promise that, but he does nonetheless to put her at ease. “I promise. I’ll be careful, and tomorrow morning you’ll wake up with me holding you.”
She smiles a little before hugging him again and sending him on his way.
Since we both want to talk more about Donna: 1. What do you see as her best qualities? 2. Her primary flaws? 3. In what ways do you think she's similar to Eric? 4. In what ways do you think she's most different from Eric? I'm excited to read your answers!
I’m happy to answer this! But for future reference, asks that are unrelated to Blue Bloods, should go to my other blog: @kissandships. I don’t mind answering them here at all, but y’know, for organization and having things all in one place :) :)
Her best qualities are her fierce loyalty and eagerness to forgive. It might take her a while to cool down and reflect, but at the end of the day, she’s always ready to forgive and learn
Her flaws would be her self destruction, though she “grew out” of it when she was older. While I love her snark and sass, she can come off as mean sometimes.
Oh that’s a good question. They’re both studious, rebellious (though her more so than Eric), and care deeply about their friends and family
She’s different from Eric in the sense that she wants to move. What I mean by that is, he seemed pretty happy to stay at home (especially in s7), while she wanted to explore. She had more ambition and drive then he did, but I think Eric was scared to leave his comfort and familiarity. And that’s normal! I wish more tv shows showed freshman collage students being scared and unsure. Donna is also bolder and more sure than Eric is, though Eric had his moments
Linda groans and throws down the shirt she’s holding. “It’s not fair! You were doing your job, and they’re attacking you!”
Danny sighs, “it’s complicated, honey. You know it is.”
“But it’s not—“
“Fair! I know! It never is fair! You know that!” Danny yells, then hits the table-top foosball. “I…. Come here.”
Linda blinks back her frustrated tears and sits next to Danny on the couch. He grabs her hand, rubbing his thumb over her skin. She watches the movement for a few seconds before looking up at her husband.
“It’s going to be okay. It will. I—“ he swallows. “I’m sorry I yelled.”
She briefly closes her eyes before kissing the air out of his lungs. She holds him tightly afterwards, praying things will work out smoothly. “What if no one believes us? Elwood doesn’t. I can tell.”
“It’ll be okay,” he repeats, not exactly answering her questions.
Linda sighed as she put her curling iron away. She came out of the bathroom with a sad look on her face. Sadder than she realized, apparently, if Danny’s frown upon seeing her said anything.
“What’s the matter?”
“I found some grey hairs,” she pouted, sitting on the bed next to him.
“So?”
“So? So I’m old!”
“You’re not old. Besides, I’m getting grey hair in my beard.”
“Men look good grey. Like Cary Grant and Richard Dreyfus. Women look old.”
“So when do men look old?”
“When their faces are wrinkled.”
“Linda, that’s completely arbitrary. Besides, you dye your hair anyways. What’s the big deal?”
“I told you; grey hair.”
Danny still wasn’t getting it. “So?”
Linda sighed, very annoyed. “Old people aren’t attractive, Danny.”
He blinked a few times, surprised. “You really think I’m going to find you any less attractive because of the color of your hair?”
She looked at him painfully, her bottom lip between her teeth.
“That’s insane! Linda— hair isn’t going to make a difference. Okay? I loved you when you had hair down to boobs in your junior year of high school. I loved you when you had a panic attack and cut it all off two weeks before the wedding. I loved you when you got that pixie cut, even though it meant I couldn’t okay with your hair for a while. I loved you when you went natural in 2003. I’ve loved you through every single haircut and style and color you’ve had, okay? Do I like some more than others? Yes, I do. But the love I have for you hasn’t changed because of your hair.”
“But it has changed?”
“Oh my— I had an entire speech about how the color of your hair doesn’t matter and that’s what you picked up on? Yes, it’s changed. It’s changed for the better. It’s grown.”
“I’m being stupid, I know. I’m sorry.”
Danny put a hand on his wife’s shoulder. “Yeah, you are. But I get it. It must be hard living with someone this awesome.”
Linda scoffed and pushed him, “you wish!”
He swung an arm around her, bring her her back to his chest. “You feel better now?”
Linda shifted some she could see his face, “yeah, thank you… I guess you are pretty awesome.”
“Thank you,” he said seriously before both of them started giggling. He peppered kisses over her cheeks and nose, finally landing on her lips. “I love you, a lot. And hair is not going to change that.”
“I love you more.”
“I love you most.” He kissed her a few more times.
