There's one blorbo that doesn't communicate their needs/emotions because they don't want to be seen as a burden to other people. There is another blorbo that doesn't communicate their needs/emotions because they literally can not and find it difficult to communicate them effectively. These two blorbos are dating.

#I'll have you know this is about jmart #Like this is jmart to me #They're both emotionally constipated but in different ways #However I think it's also how they work?#Martin is scared of being seen as a burden because he's been treated as such...for a fair bit of his life #He always wants to be kind and approachable Martin because he thinks that's the only form people will accept him in #Like Martin can be bitchy but he doesn't do that because it contradicts that image #So all those little thoughts are left to steam and die in his head #With Jon I don't think he has to do that. He can be bitchy!#I feel like w/ Jon one can be as much of a bitch as one wants because you KNOW he'll be able to throw it back just as hard #But wait! There's more!#Jon wouldn't shy away from giving Martin what he needs or wants because that man would move hell to do stuff for people he loves #I am eternally pointing to MAG 22 when Jon immediately believed Martin's story and had him stay in the archives #Also when he fucking fought Elias to upgrade the security and co2 system in the archives #That was when he still RESPECTED the man!#Onto Jon #Jon is also mega emotionally constipated as in he doesn't know how to communicate his emotions effectively and carefully #In a way that won't have a fair amount of people wanting to sock him in the face #We've all listened to the show right? We get how he is. It's so hard to explain.#If only he could Compel himself into giving a coherent statement on his thoughts #And therefore his thoughts are also left to shrivel and die in his head #But then there's Martin who due to his upbringing is an *incredibly patient man*#He WILL get Jon's thoughts damn it. Jon WILL communicate with him.#Martin's already seen Jon's worst he can handle this #Now of course this only works when it. y'know works. But as long as they COMMUNICATE or get there somehow I think it's fine.#They take care of each other is what I'm saying #In an ideal world of course #Also damn it Jon really is a cat #Abellrambles #I don't think I worded the Jon to Martin portion well enough but Martin is so hopelessly devoted to this man-

i love hot jon but specifically the part where he’s not appealing to anyone and yet he’s appealing to. everyone . like season one is the most put together he looks and even that’s a stretch because she’s prematurely graying and wears little grandma glasses and big sweaters that make him look stick skinny (he is). and then season two hits him like a bullet train and he s so stressed out of his mind that he doesn’t even comb his hair . veins popping in his eyes wearing the same cardigan that he wore three days ago because he’s been sleeping in his office carrying a tape recorder everywhere and he has this odd little creature magnetism about her. her brown eyes turn green in season three and nobody knows what to say to him about that. he grows out his hair to mad scientist unbrushed length most of her shirts have been stained three times over LIKE THIS IS NOT AN APPEALING LOOK. but by god is he wanted by the masses

One episode of TMA that I will NEVER be able to shut up about is 170 (Recollection). The first episode that made me properly cry! Not only is it a beautiful exploration of Martin as a character, but humanity in general.

The light, innocent, childish small talk that Martin offers to the tape recorder. He tries so hard to keep it comforted, welcome in his home, looked after. It'd be wrong of course, to ignore it, even in his despair; others should always be put first.

Through tangled, rambling sentences, Martin manages to always explain away his own emotions, actions... To be visibly uncomfortable, unwelcoming, is wrong. He offers up his life, details of his existence, but talks them into offhanded mentions.

The subtle embarrassment he has for himself; a hallmark of much of English society. Everyone must be a self contained functioning person, lest they risk being 'odd', 'troubled', perhaps even 'disruptive'.

And as Martin's inhibitions fade, as his memories of everything grow dim, his instinctual desperation shows so painfully through. Desperately reaching for answers, as a child desperately holds their hand out for an absent parent.

Martin never had a safe person to reach for, someone always there for him. His father gone before he really knew who he was, his mother infinitely distainful... This abandonment mirrored by Jon's absence that floats into his mind in phases.

And even to be denied the pain, to forget what you were crying about, there's something terrible about it. Feeling the lump in your throat, the tears on your cheeks, but never really being sure why they were there, if they even are.

And the chairs. To be denied the simple comfort of a soft place to rest.

Martin's eventual return to his duties, caring for his mother, the subtle falsified joy he finds in it, and his decline into self hatred, blame. How easy it is for him to find his way back to a place of insecurity even when he has nothing to grasp onto.

And how strong he stays. How ready he is to shoulder the blame, to carry on, to be there for anyone who might need him, anything. It's all outside, and when he falls deeper into the fog his internal, pressed down emotions spill out.

All of Martin's fears come from a place of worrying he isn't enough, and this domain reduces him to a state where he is nothing; and yet, he prevails.
