WOLLEMI PINE RELEASES NEW SINGLE
Following their first single, “The Preacher (Solomon),” Wollemi Pine are continuing on with the theme of pulling inspiration from influential figures in history. “Lao Tzu” is named after the ancient Chinese philosopher, and the lyrics reflect an insightful quote from the man himself: “Those who say, they don’t know / Those who know, they don’t say.”
The stylistic integrity of Wollemi Pine’s music is as rare as the tree the group is named after. “Lao Tzu” is a strong example of their musicianship and unique sound.

The Milwaukee Bucks are an American professional basketball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Bucks compete in the National Basketball Association(NBA) as a member club of the league's Eastern Conference Central Division. The team was founded in 1968 as an expansion team, and play at the Bradley Center. Former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl was the long-time owner of the team, but on April 16, 2014, a group led by billionaire hedge fund managers Wesley Edens and Marc Lasry agreed to purchase a majority interest in the team from Kohl, a sale which was approved by the owners of the NBA and its Board of Governors one month later on May 16. The team is managed by Jon Horst, the team's former Director of Basketball Operations, who took over for John Hammond in May 2017. The team is currently valued at $675 million according to Forbes, ranking fourth-to-last in the league.

No company has been more responsible for shaping the modern entertainment landscape than Walt Disney. In 1954, with Disneyland, an anthology series hosted by Walt Disney himself, it became the first movie studio to strike out for the wild west of television. Since then, Disney’s dominance has only grown. Of the dozen films with the largest worldwide box-office take since 2010, Disney released eight.
Those successes, however, belie real danger on the horizon for Disney. In recent years, many of the company’s traditional strengths have slowly turned into weaknesses—like a fairy-tale castle gradually flooded by its own moat.

HOLYOKE — In front of a crowd of 500 guests, including college presidents, faculty, entrepreneurs, and students, three students were selected as the winners of the 16th annual Live Elevator Pitch Competition Thursday at the Grinspoon Entrepreneurship Initiative Annual Banquet. The winners included:
• Alessandra Massa of Mount Holyoke College for MAIA, the first social network that supports female solo travelers looking to stay safe, share experiences, and save money;
• Edward McLeavy of Springfield Technical Community College for E-Z Salter, a fun and easy-to-use tool for salting driveways and walkways; and
• Alyis Woodward of Westfield State University for Woke Pillow, a weight-sensitive alarm-clock pillow that plays music and vibrates and is set with the user’s voice. It can also be set with an app for those who cannot speak well, such as the deaf community.
Representatives from six area banks — Berkshire Bank, Country Bank, PeoplesBank, People’s United Bank, United Bank, and Westfield Bank — once again sponsored the competition at the awards ceremony and banquet for the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Initiative. They also served as judges at the annual event.
The live event featured a student representative from each of the 14 participating local colleges. All three received $750. In addition, six student businesses were identified by the bank judges as Best Exhibitors. These were selected from a pool of 65 unique companies during a trade-show-type portion of the evening which featured the 2019 Grinspoon Entrepreneurial Spirit Award winners.
The winning exhibitors were: Grace Buttrick, Autumn Kelly, Cole Peterson, Nicolas Pantorno, and William Hroch of Western New England University for Blink Tek; Christine Clark of Westfield State University for Pespective; Jarrod Coletta and Eric Shilyuk of Western New England University for Bimiitech; Timothy Donahue of Elms College for FitLab Inc.; Eric Grigoryan of Holyoke Community College for GrigCinema; and Matthew Kaplan and Ethan Lazar of UMass Amherst for Costa Brava Cocktails.
The Grinspoon, Garvey & Young Alumni Entrepreneurship Award is presented each year to individuals who have advanced substantially as an entrepreneur since receiving the Grinspoon Spirit Award. Julie Bliss Mullen and Barrett Mully of Aclarity, LLC (UMass Amherst) were winners of the 2019 Alumni Award and $1,000. Aclarity is a water-technology company committed to providing clean, safe water for various applications globally.

Nancy Edman Feldman (Owner, Nancy Edman Interiors; ASID, IFDA) has interior design expertise in developing new environments customized for her clients, focusing on their personal lifestyle requirements, while creating beautifully high-styled surroundings; introducing as many sustainable and energy-saving products as possible. She has over 50+ years of membership in ASID, the American Society of Interior Designers as well as membership in IFDA, the International Furnishings and Design Association. Also, Nancy Edman Interiors – New York and Boston. She graduated from Brandeis University ’60 (Bachelor’s Degree, Theatre/Theater & Fine Arts) and from the Parsons School of Design (Field of Study, Interior Design). Affiliations include Ruth L. Strauss, Inc.; HCG Associates, Inc.; Nancy Edman Interiors, NYC; University of Massachusetts Medical School Foundation Board, Past Member; Boston Center for Adult Education, Past Board Member; New Center for Arts and Culture, Past Board Member; Berkshire Museum, Current Board Member; Terezin Music Foundation, Board Member. Erick Lucera joined Valeritas as Chief Financial Officer in August 2016. Prior to joining Valeritas, Mr. Lucera served as Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Secretary of Viventia Bio. From 2012 to 2015, he was Vice President, Corporate Development at Aratana Therapeutics, a veterinary biopharmaceutical company. While at Aratana, he helped grow the company’s product pipeline through a series of acquisitions and in licensing transactions financed through 5 public and private offerings of nearly $250 million. In 2012, he served as Vice President, Corporate Development at Sunshine Heart, a medical device manufacturer. In his work, Andy provides clients with a full understanding of legal and tax rules associated with accumulating, managing, and transferring wealth, helping them to develop legal structures and tax strategies to transfer and preserve wealth. He also serves as a trustee for charitable and non-charitable trusts, owning marketable and non-marketable assets. In addition, Andy counsels trustees about their duties, helping them to comply with legal and tax requirements related to the administration of trusts, and has particular experience with trusts holding direct and indirect interests in real estate. Lazare is a gifted songwriter. Her poetic and memorable lyrics chart emotional growth throughout the years. They feel sincere and authentic coupled with Lazare’s rich vocal tones. The instrumentals feel delicate and textured, built with nourishing acoustics and piano.
Title track “Gold” delivers healthy romance and optimism. Piano melodies skip around eager strings and soft drums. Cherished memories are dreamt and savoured: “spark up the fireplace and watch the flame smile at us / spend the night swimming in your eyes.” Young love confronts the past in “The Other Side.” Time works on healing separation until all that remains is respect and acceptance. Solemn strums and drumbeats intensify as the song goes on. “What I’d Give” shares blissful passion with angelic harmonies and jazzy vibratos. Electric guitar accompanies signature acoustics for a captivating and dynamic sound.
“Rubberband” steals the show with a rocker edge. A tinge of anger and the disappointment of missed signs. Lazare’s elegant vocals mesh with quick electric notes and drums. It feels empowering. Catchy lyrics have you nodding along: “If I listened to the rhythm in my soul in my veins / maybe then I would’ve rearranged.” The album ends in soothing contemplation with “This Too Shall Pass.” Flairs of horn ring out over smooth piano and velvety vocals. To feel comfortable feeling lost. To have faith in yourself to handle whatever life brings your way. “The moon is high and the stars they’re putting on a show / and I’ll be watching until the curtain is closed.”

HOWND RELEASES NEW SINGLE
“All of these bland instructions fail my design / All this expectation is this world’s crime.”
The subconscious has a strong hold on Hownd’s latest single – but Justin Kelley writes so simmering and self-aware; a swagger that is hard to deny. “Expectation” is about coming into your own amidst societal pressures, and especially those we put on ourselves. PHÖENIX LAZARE RELEASES NEW SINGLE
The Salt Spring Island singer-songwriter always brings a thoughtful warmth, a demeanor that is not only connected to her storytelling, but grateful for each lived chapter. I love the gentle folk pop sound, minimal production and uplifting instruments join in, but it’s kept very organic. I can still imagine the track being crafted over (many) late nights of reflection, and completed on the island overlooking the calm waters.
“Against All Odds” affirms that your path will be clear with time. While ‘trust the process’ is a mantra you may be tired of hearing, a new perspective that honors an artist’s journey can behold a bright new power. Lazare’s self-produced debut album Gold will be released later this year.

While a special day includes material items, it is much more than the ivory dress, lace, flowers and wine bottles. It is a pure connection with another, and Lazare has a firm grasp on the emotional pull. Out of the scenery, she paints a fulfilling picture, something to dream about. In addition to the heartfelt narration, I like the references to her home, a coastal haven (“Soft words of devotion, just steps from the ocean”).
