Look at this! Eric has some words to share! Draht Photography
New Post has been published on http://www.drahtphotography.com/the-tall-grass-wedding-at-predator-ridge-sampler/
The Tall Grass Wedding at Predator Ridge Sampler
This is probably fairly different from what you’re used to. We changed up the timeline, and the sunset sneak-away was the longest photo session of the day. It was beautiful and, as you could see from the pictures, wholly unique and original.
We start our morning with detail photos. Our venue today is Predator Ridge, one of my favourite places in Vernon to shoot. One of the huge reasons being – there’s a lot of variety. Over 100k of hiking paths, I’m told. However, we begin with a ring shot. I’ve been playing with this concept for a while – find parts of a naturally fallen tree, because the cut is jagged. Then, place the rings in that cut.
You can see the shards of wood pop out of focus when it gets closer. We call that foreground blur, and it’s depth.
And this dress!
Over at the guy’s cabin, it was a bustle of activity! Between cufflinks and boutineers, they had their hands full!
But soon enough, this fella was ready for his first look.
At the girls cabin, I arrived just in time for the last of the makeup, and the start of the wedding dress.
And soon, she was ready too. With a classically stylish dress, and a timeless vintage style updo.
The first look with Dad was emotional.
For the official first look, we picked a spot about a five minute golf cart ride away. The sun was overhead, so we knew we had to be careful with the shade. As it turned out, the long streaks of sun simply made it better.
He absolutely couldn’t believe his eyes. He kept looking down, then back up, in an effort to take it all in.
Bridal party photos were an absolute dream. Everyone was ready to party, the vibe was upbeat and fun. And just look at these flower arrangements!!!
A quick rest, and then it was time for the ceremony!
The ceremony was absolutely picturesque. Predator Ridge has an incredible view of rolling hills, wild grass, forests, and even the lake. It’s a million dollar view, people come from all over the world to see it. And of course, that comes through in the photos.
After the ceremony, appy hour had begun! I want to talk about the place settings. Of course, we did have a cake.
However, at the tables, we also had cupcakes.
As you can see, each cupcake had our name written on it, as a place holder. Talk about details! Of course, not all of us could wait until the cake was cut to have a taste. It was rather tempting.
Everyone had a blast, from the incredible appies, the first dance, and the speeches, we had a full afternoon.
However, for this bride and groom, the evening had just begun. We had a plan to start taking pictures at 6:30pm. Normally, this is sunset sneakaway time. Usually, I get about ten or fifteen minutes for a sunset sneakaway. Not this time, this time I got an entire golf course and over an hour.
The sun filtered through, right behind us, giving all the tall natural grass a golden hue.
We caught the whole range. Gold, blues, dark deep shadows, and bright highlights. And the detail on this dress!
Unfortunately, this is where I’ll have to leave you. This is a fairly large sampler, at 50 photos. There’s more coming, though, in about two weeks. If you’d like to be notified when the album is ready to share, click here.
If you’d like to save any of these photos, you can simple long-press them on mobile, or right click them on computer, and it should be straightforward from there.
We have quite the album, with a lot of candids, some fairly artsy photos, and just so much nature. It was truly an unforgettable day.
Thank you for reading this sneak peek! If you’d like to follow my updates, check my instagram, facebook, or tumblr. Talk to you soon!

Ya’ll this is gonna be a big ol’ delete later but I’m having such a weird out of body experience over the fact that my almost high school boyfriend got married this weekend to the exact opposite of everything he said he ever wanted.
He wrote me a song for my sixteenth birthday and gave me roses on holidays. We shared jokes and nicknames and long talks about the future and what we hoped for from life, just a couple of kids who had no idea what was out there waiting but hoping to wind up on the other side happy.
He said he he wished it was possible to just know what would happen, and we lamented that it wasn’t. We talked about what it might be like to wind up together, and what our lives would look like. He said he wanted a daughter who looked and laughed like me. I told him I’d love any kid with half his artistic talent.
He wanted to fly planes and travel the world, to get a big house in a state with mountains and trees and fill it with music and art. I loved his vision and passion, and thought that anywhere he went, I’d be happy going to.
He asked another girl to homecoming, and was worried I would be mad. I helped him design her corsage and pinned his boutineer on. The next year he made sure to ask me, and we made up our own pose for the photos that was much more real than the selection of stances they had on hand. We laughed all night, and danced to music we made up as we went, walking outside next to a lake.
He was my first kiss, 17 and graduating high school and going our separate ways after years of close friendship. We spent our last day at a mutual friend’s party and I said I’d give him a ride home. He asked for a bit more time. We sneaked into a movie and he held out his hand in the dark. Our fingers twined around each other and we both tried not to cry. As the credits rolled, he ran a hand through my hair and we kissed as the lights came up, breathless and messy and inexperienced, but perfect.
We held hands all the way home and he gave me a bracelet and told me not to tell anyone, that it was our secret kiss. A goodbye.
We fell out of touch after a few years of distance and separation, and honestly some stuff happened between us that was hurtful to us both but we were confused kids who didn’t know a lot and hadn’t experienced much. He got drunk and sad a lot during college and called me up to tell me he missed me and how when he kissed his girlfriend he thought of me. One of those times, he told me that he didn’t want me to tell anyone we kissed because it was embarrassing for him.
I only saw him once after that, at a mutual friend’s wedding. He tried to hold my hand and ask me to dance. I told him I didn’t want to go through it all again. We left it angry and hurt, with something irreparably broke between us. We never spoke again.
Whatever happened between us... happened. We’re human. We hurt and we hurt others, intentionally or not, and sometimes we drift apart.
I think a part of you always loves your first love. I don’t know if he was mine, but I sure thought so at the time. I hope he’s happy.

LOUISIANA
2022 Apr 28 (Thu) – We stayed in the campground all day, working on the two caravans – Pennsylvania and Alaska. There was a business meeting at 9:00 a.m.  Doug called on me to discuss my candidacy for the 2 VP position.  I said a few things.  I didn’t know I was going to speak so I had nothing prepared.  I guess I fumbled my way through it alright.  Later, Doug again called on me to tell everyone about our two caravans.  There were lots of questions and several folks said they were signing up.  HQ tells me we already have 25 people signed up and we’ll only be taking 18.
At 4:30 p.m. we went to the clubhouse for attitude adjustment.  Dinner was a baked potato with toppings.  They had all kinds of toppings: chili, sour cream, cheese, onions, and bacon.  I had a tossed salad and a bowl of chili.  After dinner, we said our goodbyes and returned to the trailer to get ready for tomorrow’s move.  It’s going to be a long drive.
2022 Apr 27 (Wed) – We went into town with Johnny & Linda to Boutin’s for lunch.  The three of them had gumbo (Johnny, Linda & Paul) while I enjoyed a salad with grilled chicken.  We were going to go to a Cajun supermarket called Nu Nu’s but there wasn’t time to get there and back to the campground for the fried fish meal.  Johnny is assuming the President of the Cajuns chapter and is finding demands on his time that he hadn’t expected.
Attitude adjustment was at 4:30 p.m.  Dinner was fried catfish at 6:00 p.m.  After dinner, we played card bingo.  I won a game, netting $8.  We also won the 50/50 drawing for $45.  After we subtracted the costs of the night, we walked away with $30!  It was a profitable night for us.
I met with Lisa, the secretary-treasurer for the women’s chapter in SMART.  The president has been having medical issues and it looks like she will not be continuing in her role.  It’s a shame.  We formed the chapter just before the pandemic hit.  The chapter has not had any chance to coalesce and come together during these past two years.  Four people have dropped out.  Membership is small to start with – 14 members.  We will see what we can do to gin up greater interest.
I put in an application for 2nd VP of SMART.
2022 Apr 26 (Tue) – Paul spent the day working on the slide.  It was a frustrating exercise but he finally figured out the problem and got it fixed.  I swear that man has magic hands.  He can fix anything!
There was attitude adjustment at 4:30, then dinner at 6:00 p.m.  The meal was boiled crawfish.  There were hundreds of crawfish served up; about 5 pounds per person.  It was difficult to eat and I don’t really care for the taste of crawfish.  It seems like an incredible waste.  All you eat in the tail and throw the rest away.  There was supposed to be a flag retirement ceremony but it rained on and off all day so the ceremony was cancelled due to weather.  After dinner, we went to Johnny & Linda’s motor coach and visited til 9 p.m.
2022 Apr 25 (Mon) – Paul ordered a new motor for the slide and had it shipped overnight to our next destination.  We had emptied all the items stored under the bed (that’s where we keep all our Christmas decorations and tree).  There were boxes everywhere along with two duffle bags and a backpack.  Paul wanted to lighten the slide to make it easier to move in and out but it was still a struggle to do it.
This morning, we packed up and left Ruston.  It was a very long drive, through intermittent rain storms, until we arrived at Poche’s fish camp in Breaux Bridge.  This is our third time here.  It is a very nice campground.  There are four very large lakes with campsites ringing the perimeter of the largest one.  The sites are concrete pads with FHU and 50-amp service.  The wifi is excellent – a rarity!
The new motor was waiting in the office when we arrived.  Yay!  We are here to join the Cajuns Y’all Come muster.  It runs form Monday through Friday.  This is a well-known muster among SMART members and one that people have enjoyed for many years.  It is usually sold out but six people cancelled at the last minute so we were able to get in.  Johnny & Linda are here.  They will be our tail gunners on the Alaska Caravan next year.
2022 Apr 24 (Sun) – The day did not go well for us.  When we tried to close the sides, the bedroom slide stopped halfway in.  Paul potsed around with it for about a half hour but couldn’t get it fixed.  The motor that drives the slide in and out appears to be broken.  The area that he has to work in is very tiny and his big hands have a hard time getting into the small space.  We finally just pulled the slide in then got on our way at 9:20 a.m.
It was a long drive today – 5 hours.  It rained briefly during the drive.  The route varied between 4-lane divided highway and 2-lane country roads.  We finally arrived at the Lincoln Parish Park Campground at 2:30 p.m.  It is a lovely park with lots of trees and easy but narrow inner roadways.  We are backed into a site with concrete pad, full hookups to include 50-amp electric, overlooking lake.  They have a beach area, rent kayaks, and have several pavilions.  There was a party going on at one of them.
Once set up, we drove into town to get fuel.  We stopped at Ponchatoulas Restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner. My meal was good but Paul was disappointed with his.  He ordered chicken and sausage jambalaya but couldn’t find any chicken in it.  After lunch/dinner, we drove around a little to look at the town then returned to the campground.
Paul set about trying to figure out the problem with the slide.  He took the area apart in order to get more room to work in.  He was able to pull the motor out and found it was broken.  Now, he will either fix it or look for a new one.

For Nathan Byrn and Gabriel Boutin
Two lovers “Friends” Soul mates. Bound by the earth, water, fire and air. Journeys by heaven, hills and hell made them who they are, sprung the the connection they have. A sweet kiss multiplied as time goes by, one became two, two became four, four became a hundred. Hands gripped tightly now, together they’re invincible. Nothing, but not quite no one, can get in the way of their dream. Violence, rivalry, and vengeance. Three stains on the world which cause even family to part. And that’s how it ends. Ones family fires, hungry for her own blood, but gets his. The lover falls, his chest and entire body wounded. An inaudible whisper, the name of the man with whom his heart belonged. Time stops for the goodbye, sweet final words and the last kiss. But his lover is stopped too, faded into his forever sleep. Soul mates, now bound by roots and flesh, damp soil from the lake yonder helps them grow, now together as one: just a hazel tree with two souls, resting for all of eternity in perfect peace.

(Olympics) Men redeem themselves, women underachieve in short track at PyeongChang 2018

(Olympics) Men redeem themselves, women underachieve in short track at PyeongChang 2018
Tumblr media
By Yoo Jee-ho
GANGNEUNG, South Korea, Feb. 22 (Yonhap) — South Korea has been so dominant in short track speed skating for so long that it’s difficult to imagine the country ever being shut out of medals at any Olympics.
In fact, the South Korean men’s team has drawn blanks at two different Olympic Games. And the skaters made sure it wouldn’t happen for a third time on home ice here at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, by winning four medals at Gangneung Ice Arena.
For the men’s national team, PyeongChang 2018 was a story of redemption. At the previous Winter Games in Sochi four years ago, no South Korean man won a short track medal — only the second time that happened at an Olympics, after Salt Lake City 2002.
Tumblr media
South Korean short track speed skaters Hwang Dae-heon (R) and Lim Hyo-jun (C) compete in the men’s 500-meter final during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics at Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, on Feb. 22, 2018. (Yonhap)
The South Koreans were reduced to watching their former teammate, Victor An of Russia, grab three gold and one bronze.
With An, formerly Ahn Hyun-soo of South Korea, out of PyeongChang over alleged doping, the South Korean men were in contention in every race.
Lim Hyo-jun, a first-time Olympian, got things rolling by winning the 1,500-meter gold medal on Feb. 10, one day after the opening ceremony. Seo Yi-ra added a bronze in the 1,000m, with Lim taking a fall in the final. And on Thursday, Hwang Dae-heon and Lim each took silver and bronze in the 500m.
Lim, Seo, Kwak Yoon-gy and Kim Do-kyoum entered the 5,000m relay final later Thursday, but Lim fell down without contact midway through the 45-lap race as South Korea finished fourth.
It was a crushing finish to an otherwise strong Olympic campaign for South Korea, as three male skaters reached the podium.
With the men putting themselves back on the map, the South Korean women actually underachieved by winning two gold medals.
Choi Min-jeong herself had two gold medals — in the 1,500m and 3,000m relay — though the medal tally could have been even higher.
She would have had silver in the 500m had she not been penalized for impeding in the final. Then in the 1,000m final on Thursday, Choi collided with teammate Shim Suk-hee in the late stretch while trying to make a pass on the outside. Both skaters fell and crashed into the safety padding, and Choi ended up finishing fourth while Shim was penalized for impeding.
Tumblr media
South Korean short track speed skater Shim Suk-hee (R) checks on her teammate Choi Min-jeong after both fell and crashed into the safety padding during the women’s 1,000-meter final at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics at Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, on Feb. 22, 2018. (Yonhap)
Choi, a two-time world overall champion, had set out to pull off an unprecedented gold medal sweep here. And she had every reason to believe she could do it, as she came into her first Olympics ranked No. 1 in the world in all three individual races. With Choi as the anchor, South Korea also ranked first in the world prior to the Olympics.
But short track races are usually unpredictable. Fans are still up in arms over Choi’s impeding call on Kim Boutin of Canada in the 500m final. And in the 1,000m final, Choi and Shim were supposed to be battling for first place over the final lap, not crashing into the safety padding together while still in the back of the pack.
At least Choi has her two gold medals from here. After two Olympic Games, Shim is still in search of her first individual gold medal. The relay gold was her only medal at PyeongChang 2018. And at the Sochi Games four years ago, Shim, then touted as a teen prodigy who could grab multiple gold medals, ended up taking the relay gold while winning silver in the 1,500m and bronze in the 1,000m.
On a brighter note, Shim and Choi, still just 21 and 19, are very much the present and the future of women’s short track here. They will have their chance at redemption in four years’ time in Beijing, much as the men did here.

Look at this! Eric has some words to share! Draht Photography
New Post has been published on http://www.drahtphotography.com/the-equestrian-wedding-at-harvest-golf-club-sampler/
The Equestrian Wedding at Harvest Golf Club Sampler
This was my first contender for this horse-filled sampler, but it was tough to choose between the two.
Our story begins in Kelowna, at a personal residence. Large open spaces and tall windows make for clean, bright, and airy compositions. All the details were ready for me when I arrived.
It was hair and makeup everywhere, and everyone did their part. Including a little helper I’d see a lot that day!
A few minutes away, a pensive grom was buttoning up. It was a little tense, as it gets on a day like this.
Over at the bride’s, it was the same story.
And before we knew it, she was beaming and ready!
Harvest Golf Club is a unique venue – it’s a golf course, that was designed from day 1 for weddings and events. I have a lot of experience with it, starting from 8 years ago when my own cousin was married there.
I’ve often joked that they have whole teams of invisible gardeners there, because everything is perfectly manicured all the time, but we never see them.
The ceremony was at 2pm, so guests were just beginning to arrive at 1:30. Inside the boutineers were being pinned.
The ceremony was beautiful. Hand written vows, and an incredible view overlooking Kelowna.
The weather was a nice 27º, offset by a cool breeze blowing off the lake. We listened to them recount their vows, then say their their I do’s. Then, the recessional! All the guests blew bubbles, making for some fun and colourful photos!
After family photos, we made our way to Spirit Ridge. I honestly can’t say enough good things about this place, and you’ll soon see why.
First, photos of the bride and her Enzo.
If you can see, we had the entire arena to ourselves. The light was just perfect, as it spilt through through the tall windows.
He was a good boy, and to say the shoot went perfectly would be understating it. I couldn’t imagine how amazingly it would turn out.
I have to give this amazing woman a shoutout. She did an amazing job, leading and prepping Enzo, and just generally being a lovely addition to our party. She made this potentially complicated session, especially for this guy who does not know how to lead a horse, effortless and fun.
THANK YOU! 🙂
I took a few more snaps, and we made our way back to Harvest Golf Club. Unfortunately, though, Harvest Gold Club is where I’ll have to leave you. Keep in mind, this isn’t all the photos. This is a whopper of a sampler though, 45 of the photos taken today.
I can’t explain to you how special this day was, but hopefully this sampler will show you. We had an incredible sunset, some lovely times with friends, a lot of candids, some brand new family photos, and of course, I’ll never forget Spirit Ridge.

Green Bay Walleye
Bay of Green Bay Walleye
By: Jeff Boutin
Opening day of fishing season is upon us. Even though summer does not officially start until June 21st, I have always considered the first Saturday in May the start of my summer season. I, as well as anglers from all over the state, will head out to their favorite lakes and rivers in pursuit of the most sought after fish in the Midwest…walleye! My favorite place just so happens to be, the Bay of Green Bay.
The Bay can be a very intimidating body of water. When you head out to any one of the boat launches located around the lower portion of the Bay, the parking lot will be full of boat trailers but all you will see is miles and miles of open water and only a few boats in sight. Even though the surface looks the same as far as the eye can see, it’s what’s lurking below it that all of us are after.
Most anglers who come up to the Bay struggle with where to fish and which presentations to use. Either they setup near the boat launch, or they head out in the direction other boats are heading also looking for a group of boats. When they find them, they throw a few lures in the water and start trolling. Well that’s a good start, but most people spend countless hours on the water only to go home disappointed. We’ve all been there.
Here are a few tips and tools that will make you a more successful angler. First and foremost, you will need a good GPS locator. I prefer the Humminbird Helix series locators. They are high definition and very easy to use for the average angler. For those of you that are more experienced, the upgraded units are equipped with Side and Down Imaging. The next thing you will need is a map chip for your GPS. The Lake Master chip is made for your Humminbird unit and can highlight different depths of water making it easier to see the areas you may want to fish. This is going to show you where the structures are, eliminating the areas without structure and water that is deeper than 20 ft. That just eliminated 90% of the water! I recommend a set of trolling rods with line counter reels, spooled with 10 lb. to 12 lb. monofilament line. I suggest a quality set of planer boards. I use Churches Tackle TX-22 boards simply because they are of high quality, they cut through the water nicely, and when you stop, they won’t fall over and tangle up your lines. The last piece of equipment is a Minn Kota trolling motor. Most fishing boats sold today come with one mounted to the bow. They work so well, it’s almost standard to have a Minn Kota on your bow. When the Minn Kota trolling motor is equipped with I-Pilot, you will be able to fish and let the I-Pilot steer your boat for you. Just set a course, set the speed, and fish, it’s that easy.
Now for the fun part; catching the fish. We’ve reviewed the Lake Master maps so now we can focus on the areas we want to fish. In May, the walleye tend to feed on the rocky reefs and the areas with shallow weeds. The baits of choice in these areas are the Flickershad. Start out with the basics; purple, chartreuse, maybe a gray or white. Since it is early and the bait fish are small, use number 5’s and 7’s. It is a good idea to get the trolling app. This will assist you in determining at which depth the bait will run. The App will tell you how much line to let out in order to get your bait to a certain depth. For example, a number 7 Flickershad with 30’ feet of line let out will dive down 6 feet. With 40 feet of line, the Flickershad will dive down 8 feet. Speed will not affect the depth at which the lure will dive. You will attach the Churches Tackle planer board after you let out your set distance of line. The next part is speed. Since the waters are cold in May, you are not going to want to troll too fast. Keep your speed between 1.3 and 1.7 mph changing it often until you find a speed the fish prefer.
When setting your lines, start out with several colors and set them at various depths. Be careful not to set your baits too low in the water column. Walleye feed up and you do not want to put your bait underneath them. As you work your way over and through different reefs and humps and that first board goes back, make sure you keep track of the depth the bait was running. In addition, note your speed and hit a waypoint. This will be your first waypoint of many. Troll another 5-10 minutes and if you have not gotten another bite either turn around, if it is not windy, or pick up and go back to make another pass. The biggest mistake I see anglers make is when they catch a fish they just keep on going and do not return to that spot. This is your chance to make your first adjustment. Set a few more baits at or near that depth and make that pass right over the same spot. If you catch more fish, repeat the process and make another adjustments to your presentation, color. If the fish bit on the same color, add a few more of that color. Continue to refine your presentation until either you can’t keep your lines in the water, or they quit biting. If they quit biting, move on until you find the next bite. Sometimes you will have to go back to different depths and colors until you get something to work.
Another place you can find these fish is shallow. Yes, I did say shallow, 2 to 3 feet shallow. On bright days, in the mid to late mornings, the sun is warming up the shallows. Walleye will head into these waters even if the water is crystal clear, it’s warmer, and it only needs to be 4 to 5 degrees warmer. This is when your planer board comes in handy. I’ll run my closest planer board 100 to 150 feet from the boat. These fish will spook easy, so being stealthy is critical. Using the Minn Kota is really important. In this case, you are only going to put 6 to 8 feet of line out behind your planer board. These areas are generally sandy and you want the front lip of the bait to either tick or slightly dig right into the sand. This will help entice a strike. These fish are not the same fish as the ones you were finding on the reefs. These are generally the larger females coming into the shallows to feed. It is very important to keep your distance, if these fish even see a shadow from your boat, they will be gone!
Another bait I like to use is the Team-Outdoors inline blade attractor. They come in 10 different colors and 4 different sizes. These are attached to your line about 12 inches above the crankbait. These will attach to your line without tying a knot or cutting your line. Crankbaits rattle, and wiggle, but they don’t always have flash. The attractor blades are either a #3 Colorado or a #3 willow blade. This adds additional flash and vibration to your crankbaits without affecting the depth or action of the bait. If I pass over fish and they are hesitant to bite, I usually add these to a few of my lines. If the waters are a little murky, again this is a great way to add flash to your presentation.
Time spent on the water is always special, so enjoy it, have fun, and most importantly, be safe.
I’ll see you on the water,
Captain Jeff Boutin
