Take on airbending and how it relates to spiritual stuff.
I know Jesa supposedly lost some of her bending because of her choice in becoming a career criminal. And it interfered with the ideals of Air nomads. But so did Zaheer murdering people. I’m thinking the biggest difference would be their own guilt or connection to themselves. Zaheer was sure of himself. Meditated all the time. And centered on what he was doing. Jinpa is shown to be pretty strong but he still strays ideals from the Typical air nomad teachings. Part of being free like the wind I would think is accepting who you are, even if it’s slightly different or way different than who you are “supposed” to be. But maybe Jesa struggled with that. Got her tattoos early and was most likely dedicated to her cultures teachings until she found Hark. I’m sure it confused her and she wasn’t sure of who she was at that point or where she belonged. Like she didn’t know what was right or what she deserved. Almost like what one could consider a struggle of faith. That I think might have been more detrimental to her power.
Zuko lost his power in firebending and had to find it again. Within himself (with some help). Jesa just compensated instead. Dealing with anger and some hidden self hate for who she turned out to be.
Or it was just A rumor and she liked the fans as weapons.
My take.

Guru Laghima comic coming November 30th in The Legend of Korra: Patterns in Time anthology
One of the new comics in The Legend of Korra: Patterns in Time anthology is set about 4000 years before Aang and Korra and features the first ever in-the-flesh appearance of the legendary Air Nomad Guru Laghima.
Laghima is the first known airbender to achieve true flight, and was a renowned philosopher and poet who was referenced millennia later by Avatar Yangchen and Avatar Kyoshi, and centuries later still by Zaheer in the time of Avatar Korra. Zaheer is the second-known airbender to “become wind” and achieve true flight.
I will say that this is a very short comic and almost just a tease of of this historical figure, but it is still highly notable as an extremely rare entry in the franchise set purely in an ancient timeframe we’ve never seen before, in this case about 4000 years ago. We’ve previously seen Wan’s time 10 thousand years ago, and then we have a huge time skip to the most recent ~500 or so years from Avatar Szeto to Avatar Korra, so this is a small first step in filling in the 10 thousand years from Wan to Korra.
The Legend of Korra: Patterns in Time hits shelves this November 30th.

Ace of Swords. Art by Camila Quintana, from The Jasmine Dragon Tarot.
Everyone’s favorite levitating monk, Guru Laghima is the Ace of Swords. This card means breakthrough, new ideas, mental clarity and success.
You would probably think Zaheer fits in this category too but I wanted to mention the guy that inspired Zaheer.
Laghima was the first ever air bender to discover the secrets of weightlessness which in turn, gave him the ability to fly. This and other philosophies of his, inspired several Air Nomad generations after his time. So he’s definitely one for breakthrough and success!

before he became one of the most iconic air nomads of all time, guru laghima was just the most annoying kid at the northern air temple

imagine zaheer stumbling into the spirit world during his meditation before he knew he gained airbending powers and being hype asf when he met the guru laghima in person (probably likely to happen)

I have a feeling that this might be my work brain and my mind working overtime trying to keep myself entertained, but the way Guru Shoken was talked about in The legacy of Yangchen felt like how Zaheer talked about Laghima in The legend of Korra .
Not exactly the same way, but like… similar vibes? I immediately noticed it when I listened to the book. It rubbed me a weird way

Making a story about Guru Laghima is only going to depreciate Zaheer's story because it's going to take this pseudo-mythical figure that spouted wisdom and could fly and it's going to turn him into some guy.

can i just say i feel seen by your obsession with obscure but influential in the in-world history figures like guru laghima and xai bau. laghima especially he is so extra and esoteric i love it. that story in the comics where a monk makes a long pilgrimage to find him and ask him about wisdom and hes just "wisdom is nothing" and just fuckin, flies away never comes back down and leaves that monk shook, ugh, so iconic..
yessss I read that whole patterns in time anthology literally just for him and that one korrasami comic (and honestly I don’t even remember the rest). laghima is such a good extracanon addition to me. like he is never once mentioned in atla by name (although I can only imagine whenever aang’s like “the monks used to say…” some of that IS laghima’s wisdom) but he is in lok and the yangchen novels and he intrigues me so much I love him. also, if my brother was remotely old enough to drink, we would’ve turned every time zaheer says “guru laghima” in lok into a drinking game (we essentially already did w/o the drinking, clapping and cheering every time he said it). that’s MY “zuko saying honor” compilation!!!!
