In issue 36 it’s shown that Mobian hedgehogs can wag their tails, as shown with Amy. So how would Sonic, Silver, or Shadow react if someone caught them with their tails wagging?

IAN FLYNN: [Laughing] Sonic wouldn't care. He's chill about it. Silver would be extremely self-conscious and kind of blubber over himself, like, "I-I-I didn't! I wouldn't -- I can't -- I didn't!" [Misspeaking] Silver would kill you. I- Shadow! Shadow. Shadow. I screwed up the joke. KYLE CROUSE: [Cackling laughter] "Silver would kill you." It's funnier that way! IAN: Well, maybe they both would, you know? Shadow's just more direct about it. KYLE: Yeah, yeah, yeah... IAN: "Shadow, I saw your tail wagging." [Shadow voice, threatening] "No you didn't." KYLE: [as Shadow] "You saw nothing." IAN: "Silver, I saw your tail wagging." [Silver voice, panicked] "NO YOU DIDN'T!" [normal voice] and then he smashes you with a car. KYLE: [Laughing] Just on accident. IAN: Yeah, just as more of a reflex. KYLE: Just as a reflex-reaction, yeah. [Silver voice] "IT'S NO USE -- CRAP!"

[reading question] “How would you write an 06 adaptation in Sonic X?” Here’s the question, would you write the 06 adaptation in Sonic X the show, or Sonic X the comic?

IAN FLYNN: [laughs] KYLE: It’s very— two very different things. IAN:Very different things. I don’t know, if we’re gonna be true to the source material, then Elise doesn’t really have a role, and Chris is the one who has the Flames of Disaster sealed inside him. KYLE: [laughing] Oh no! Oh! IAN: “Chris, whatever you do, you can’t cry!” [as Chris, weepily] “But why?!” [Iblis roar] KYLE: It’s all he does! [laughs] No! IAN: Oh, man, now I’m imagining Mephiles with, like, that really bad early 2000s CG effect. All these awful filters flyin’ around. KYLE: Oh, God, no! [laughing] This would be awful. IAN: You’d have, like, the budget episodes where Soleanna and New City are just, like, these flat, grey urban textures that have like, no depth, but then you get to the final episode where they’re doing the Super fight against Solaris, and the animation bump goes through the roof, and it’s glorious. And you forgive the last 26 episodes of your life that you’ve wasted watching it so far. KYLE: Mhm. IAN: [choking the words out through high pitched, wheezing laughter] This means Chris is the one that kisses Sonic back to life! [fit of maniacal laughter] KYLE: [frantic, horrified laughter] No! No! No! No! Ian, no! Ian! No! IAN: [prolonged cackling laughter] KYLE: The worst timeline! Oh, no! IAN: Oh, and Eggman has to be as close as they can get him to photorealistic Eggman in the Sonic X style. KYLE: No! IAN: Which does not work at all! KYLE: No, no, no! No! This is not going on the thumbnail! No! IAN: [wheezing laugh] KYLE: No, do not put this on the thumbnail! [laughing] IAN: Oh, my goodness, just imagine the art errors for Silver’s head alone… KYLE: Oh… no… oh, no… at least Dan Green could still be the voice of Mephiles. IAN: Oh, yeah, that’d be fantastic. [microphone glitches] That’s the only reason to do this. KYLE: That would be— yeah. Oh… IAN: Oh, would they try to hand-animate Omega? Or would he be like, early 2000s CG? KYLE: Just crappy CG, no! IAN: That you just composite into each shot… oh, man, it’d be awful! KYLE: [pained sound not unlike he is receiving a fully conscious appendectomy] Oh! IAN: Wait! [microphone glitches again] They did the weird thing with Sonic and Shadow’s spines when they would turn their heads. What would Silver look like?! KYLE: [resigned groan] IAN: Would it just be like, one giant spine, depending on the angle? [bursts into laughter] KYLE: [groans as if he is dying] Ian… what are you doing… why are you— IAN: [microphone glitches again as if resisting] The Iblis monsters would have the terrible CG effects, too! KYLE: Why am— why am I the reasonable one!

IAN: [laughs] KYLE: Why am I the one who’s being… [gives up on finishing this sentence] IAN: Forget the comic, the comic can’t hold a candle to this idea! KYLE: Oh, no… IAN: [in awe] What a glorious trainwreck! KYLE: What’s even funnier is that your mic is trying to stop you. IAN: [cackles] KYLE: It’s not working. [laughs] So cursed! IAN: The whole thing would be so awful… KYLE: Yeah? IAN: But then there would be, like, this incredibly well-written and poignant subplot about Elise dealing with her emotional trauma, and how Soleanna as a country even works. And it’s like, maybe an episode, maybe two that really gets into it and fleshes out this world in a meaningful and robust manner. KYLE: [chuckles] Yeah. IAN: And that’s it. That’s like— that and Dan Green are the only redeeming things out of this season. KYLE: [sigh, reading chat] Ian, in the chat… IAN: Yeah. KYLE: In the Bumblekast Discord server, open it up. There’s a little piece of art there. Someone has, uh, sketched Silver. [chuckles] IAN: [seeing it, delighted, evil] Yes! KYLE: [laughing] IAN: Cursed Toucan Sam! KYLE: [cackles] Oh no! Why do you…? So I’ve been going through all of The Bumblekast, Ian Flynn’s and Kyle “KyleJCrb” Crouse’s podcast, and cherry-picking the questions that interest me (as it’s a QnA podcast). One question answered in the April 24th, 2023 episode (source) was the following:

“The IDW original cast are all great characters, but it feels like they haven't had a lot of chances to have their relationships with the main game cast explored much so far. So to keep it fairly concise, let's stick with the core four for now(Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles). Which member (s) of the IDW cast would you personally like to explore their relationships with and what kind of dynamic do you think they would have with them? For example, I think Tails and Tangle would have a really fun dynamic.”

At timestamp 18:30, Kyle asks Ian, “What about Lanolin and Amy?” and Ian’s response was so validating:

Let’s just say that I’ve been cooking with someone in my DMs and I think we’re on to something based on Ian’s seeming intentions—and I think we’re gonna see it soon, too.

I’m not nearly as angry about Lanolin as a character existing in her current state if the intention is for her to be put in her place. Because that’s means there IS an intention for her and she IS meant to irritate the reader because she IS supposed to be in the wrong.

If the comic ultimately plans to make a statement against Lanolin’s behaviour to teach some lesson about how you shouldn’t impose yourself/your opinions on others, then I am all for it. And for all the reasons Ian notes, I think Amy to be the one to take that stand makes a lot of sense (and is something that I actually predicted).

Here’s hoping Lanolin gets the development she deserves and that she’s not just a wasted character.

KYLE CROUSE: Alright, here’s one from HappyTimes. “Everyone is sent a notice to come help take out Eggman's new base immediately. It's a floating fortress out above the middle of the ocean, so Shadow has to take a 4 hour plane ride to get to it. And because of how everyone's schedule happened to line up and where they were all located, he coincidentally has to share it with just Tangle for the whole trip, which he only finds out after the plane had started taking off. How does the flight go between the two? P.S. He has no chaos emerald so he can't warp away. He's stuck on the plane with her.”

IAN FLYNN: So Shadow is obviously and immediately nettled, and Tangle’s like [interrupting] “Ah tut tut tut tut tut! Look! Look, I know about ‘ya! I know you like your boundaries,” —she says as she makes, like, a force-field gesture with her hands— “I get it! My bestie’s just like it. So, I got my earphones, we got our in-flight movie, I’m just gonna watch that and not say another word to ‘ya! We cool?” And he just kind of blinks, and then nods, like yeah, okay, he can work with that. And so she plugs in her headphones and she queues up her movie… well, she tries to, the touch screen’s kind of hard to work with, and the glare makes it hard to see. She pokes a little harder, maybe she pokes it with her tail— [as Tangle] “Ope, sorry! You’re kinda tangled around—” [escalating] Don’t worry, she’ll completely untangle it, she’s got lots of experience! This tail gets all over the place! KYLE: [chuckling quietly] IAN: [as Tangle] “Ah, anyway, do you mind if the armrest is up? No? Okay, cool! I’m gonna— finally!” Alright, there’s the movie, and oh, she loves the musical number in this part and she’s gonna sing! Along! Out loud! KYLE: [laughing] IAN: And Shadow is just sitting there… KYLE: Seething. IAN: Ever-so-slowly grinding his teeth to dust. KYLE: Figured he already did that, considering how many coffee beans he eats. IAN: [chuckles] KYLE: But sure. I do enjoy that they are seated side-by-side, and I’m assuming they’re the only two on the plane. Honestly, the leg room in there was a lot better than the seat, not gonna lie.” KYLE: [cackles] Oh, but she has a problem with small spaces! She didn’t freak out? I mean… IAN: [laughing] Look, you want continuity in my joke answer, man? KYLE: Yes! IAN: I got nothin’. KYLE: [laughs, then as Tangle] “No! No! No!” Shadow would stuff her in there anyway. [sigh] No, no… maybe it’s Archie Shadow, not current-canon Shadow. That would be better. IAN: [chuckles] KYLE: That would go better. IAN: He would just be sitting there with the Shadow face the entire flight. That’d be hilarious. KYLE: [chuckling] Which Shadow face? IAN: The Shadow face. KYLE: [chuckles] Okay. That one. Sonadow was recognized by Ian Flynn not Ian Hanlin. Flynn has a podcast with his friend Kyle Crouse called Bumblekast on YouTube that had a Sonadow episode for the end of pride month. However, Sonadow was recognized by Devan Mack as a joke on one of his tweets about a Sonic Ice Cream truck which had Sonadow fanart on it. Also Roger Craig Smith liked a piece of sonadow fanart on twitter
