What about a Furfrou review ? Although I should probably say "reviews", all things considered... :p

Furfrou's default form is pretty boring, but I'm willing to give it a pass seeing as the whole point of it is the grooming gimmick, much like how Eevee is kind of plain but it's just because it has its evolution thing going on. There's not much to say about it, but I do like it's upturned snout and the bit of black on its face and legs.

My one nitpick is that I kind of wish it was less straight-furred? Like, it looks more like an afghan hound when untrimmed than any kind of poodle, and that could've easily been fixed by just giving it slightly wavier fur (emphasis on slightly, so there's still contrast with the trimmed forms).

But Furfou's main thing isn't just being a poodle—rather, it's a poodle that you can give haircuts to. This is a pretty fun gimmick, and it works well given how people trim poodles IRL. I do kind of wish it had some impact on gameplay so there'd be a reason to do it beyond aesthetics, but regardless, it's fun and memorable. The 'dex mentions that it becomes swifter when its trimmed, so why not give the trimmed forms a speed stat increase or something?

As a whole, these forms add some much needed visual punch with the addition of color (each form having a different palette, though the Matron trim probably should've been a more purple-ish purple) and the black areas of skin, which adds some much needed contrast.

Individually, each form can be broken into three categories:

The shape cuts (heart, star, and diamond)

The hat cuts (debutante, matron, and dandy)

The striped cuts (la reine, kabuki, and pharaoh)

My one issue with these cuts is that they can feel a bit repetitive after a certain point. Almost every single trim (except for the diamond cut) has colored leg fluff, all of them have fluff on their heads, and all have a colored tail in a distinct shape. It's possible they were just invoking the most common poodle trim, the continental clip, but couldn't we get a bit more variety?

I think the shape cuts do the best at differentiating the three in that group, as the placement of the fur is different on each, while the stripe cuts look the most similar. It feels like they could've had, say, a cut where all four legs are shaved, a cut where the tail has no color or shape, a cut with flatter hair on the head, a cut that's mostly shaved with only fur on the body... just more variety is all I'm saying.

For the record, I think my personal favorite is the diamond trim—I might be biased because orange is my favorite color, but I also like that it looks different than the other cuts and the amount of black on it. Least favorite is probably Kabuki, just because it's too similar compared to the other striped cuts and it's not as easy to tell what theme they were going for on that one without knowing the name.

Anyway, overall, a fun Pokemon with a decent gimmick, though I do feel like some kind of gameplay integration and more changes between the cuts would've helped it a bit.

(Also, GameFreak, make Furfrou and its trims available in a game again so they stop being a Literal Currency on the HOME GTS. Like seriously, what the hell)

I was literally like "The heart furfrou looks nothing like that so it can't be furfrou??" Totally thought there was only the natural, diamond, star, heart, kabuki, and pharaoh forms

Alola! It's Me!

Pokemon Sun and Moon drabble for myself, it's one of my fav gens of Pokemon and I love love looovveeeeeeeee Guzma!!!

Camellia is a debutante from the Kalos region. Her family moved to the Alolan islands to escape their aristocratic life in Kalos. While she misses the cooler temperatures, she loves the island trials and all of the culture of Alola. She specializes in Poison types and adores their move set and style. She gets easily excited about crushing her opponent, her entire team can feel her passion. Dexter is her childhood Pokemon so she allows him to stay on the team, even if he doesn’t really match it.

Escorting kids was harder than it looked. Camellia joined the traveling troupe of island challenge goers for fun and recreation, to learn about the new home she moved to. Sun, Moon, Hau and Lillie, they were all beautiful children. She loved to feed Hau, give battle tips to Sun and Moon, and shop and care for Lillie.

Fixing her hair, she hummed and walked through Heahea. Lillie had been frightened of the thought of Team Skull attacking her and Nebby, but it didn’t matter much to an accomplished trainer like Camellia. Still, she managed to find them, but in the next town over.

“Hand over the bottlecap!”

The vulpix defiantly turned away from the grunts. It was clear this Pokemon was uninterested in them. Camellia strode forward, interfering. “What are you children up to?” She asked in a taunting manner, smiling.

“This vulpix got a bottle cap I want! Kind of a waste on a Pokemon, ain’t it!?” The grunt complained, both still gesturing to flaunt and flex.

“Not really. I could think of better things to get worked up over.” Camellia laughed. “Like a battle.”

“Ya wanna battle us!? Team Skull!?!” The female grunt paused. “Yer on!”

Throwing out Dexter, Camellia laughed. “Fine. Wipe the floor with them, dear.” She looked to her Furfrou. He was well groomed, always trimmed with a new style when she felt the need. He was sporting the Kabuki cut as he gave an affirmative bark in response. A swift head butt slammed into the grunt’s rattata. The rattata’s bite in response didn’t seem to make the Furfrou flinch what so ever.

“What! Get ridda that goofy hair cut mutt! That’s not a real Pokemon, it’s just a spoiled pet!!” The grunt wailed. “Use another bite, Rattata!”

The rattata charged forward again, biting. The furfrou seemed uninterested and retaliated with another head butt, knocking it out.

“He is spoiled, but also well trained, unlike your Pokemon.” Camellia laughed, pointing to the grunt. “Tell the rest of your friends if you want to be crushed, come see me, Camellia.” She cooed, brushing her hair behind her back. Furfrou trotted back to its owner as she took out a brush, grooming him gently. The grunts whined.

“Well it was a stupid bottle cap anyways!!”

“We ain’t done with you lady!!”

They ran away.

The Vulpix and its owner thanked her for rescuing them. Camellia chuckled, “Ah it’s no worry. I am always in the mood to battle, as is Dexter.” The furfrou barked in response, wiggling back and forth on its paws in an excited and playful manner.

“Ya want a beating!?!” Guzma grinned, tilting his head.

Camellia threw her hair back. “Only if you’re prepared to get it ten fold. Bring it.”

A large, shapeless blob emerged from the Pokeball. It was multi colored, eyes and a mouth emerging. It was a Muk. Guzma scoffed as he threw out his Ariados.

“That’s it? A Muk?” He snorted.

“You clearly have no idea what it’s capable of. Gunk shot.” She lifted up her hand, smiling as she did so. “Drown it in poison.”

The muk gasped before shooting out a large ball of gunk. It splashed onto the Ariados, then the Muk moved in to continue its assault. It took some tricky maneuvering from Guzma to help guide his spider Pokemon out of the pool of poison. “String shot it!” Pockets of the Muk were bound together, slowing its mobility down.

“Muk, poison the webbing and throw another gunk shot.” Camellia ordered.

The moving sludge managed to disintigrate the silk thread, throwing another shot in the process. The ariados was knocked out, falling down in gunk.

“Don’t think this is my only pokemon, girly! I’m just gettin’ started.” Guzma returned his fainted Pokemon.

“I hope so, you’re not giving me any sense of challenge.” Camellia smiled. “Muk doesn’t feel it either.”

Hopes/pipe dreams for Pokemon Legends Z-A that I'm making up as I go along:

More Mega Evolutions obviously.

More Regional forms obviously.

New Xerneas/Yveltal forms. Maybe a new Zygarde form somehow? I don't know how it would work with the percentage system unless they decided to make a 200% form or something dumb like that, but it could merge with Xerneas or Yveltal ala Necrozma.

Random idea: A Carbink evolution. It looks like something that should evolve, and it could help expand it's backstory on how it's tied to Diancie. Or just a way for Carbink to evolve into Diancie.

Furfrou's various haircuts changing its type instead of all forms being Normal - gameplay-wise, it sorely needs something to stand out from all the other fully-evolved Normal types. The Rotom forms give a precedent for this. What I'd change each haircut type to: Heart = Fairy, Star = Ice, Diamond = Ground, Debutante = Electric, Matron = Poison, Dandy = Grass, La Reine = Water, Kabuki = Fire, Pharaoh = Psychic.

Expanded lore for Volcanion, given how it's the only Legendary/Mythic that has both little lore and no extra form. Given how it's steam-based it could easily be a sought after by many characters for its ability to provide power/energy, or just be the main source of power for the city/region.

Since Mewtwo won't exist yet, maybe a Mega Mew as a counterpart? I mean, if Legends Arceus is anything to go by Mewtwo will probably appear in a time distortion equivalent given its own Mega forms.

Full-on pipe dream territory:

A third, genderless/non-binary Meowstic form. It would probably require a genderless Espurr though, but that's not impossible - Lycanroc-Dusk requires a special Rockruff for example. Maybe Pyroar and Indeedee can join in on the fun as well.

Given how close Galar is to Kalos, the Galar fossils appearing how they were supposed to be and not the mangled things they were revived as in Sword/Shield.

An alternate evolution for Doublade that's a full-on offense version with 2 or more swords. It could have higher Speed at the expense of Sp. Atk compared to Aegislash's Blade Forme.

Maybe regional forms or evolutions for Simisage/Simisear/Simipour to try and help them make up for their lack of popularity (I personally like Simisage and Simipour though).

An alternate evolution method for Malamar that doesn't require the system to be held upside-down.
