@angelinamlo When I started writing FULL MOON OVER FREEDOM, I took seriously the fact that this book was going to include my first Mexican-American hero. I wanted him to be dark like my dad was; I wanted his indigenous roots to be apparent just like they are in my family. It was difficult to find a working actor to model him after.

Thankfully, I discovered the wildly handsome and kind Justin Johnson Cortez @justinj_cortez. Justin, an actor, director, and writer starring in “Walker: Independence”, is my physical inspiration for Nicky Mendoza, my bad-boy-turned-artist who’s secretly pined for the once-perfect Gillian “Juliana” Armstead-Bancroft most of his life.

The first time I included Justin in an IG Story, I got a message from his lovely wife. Justin had sent her the notification because she’d been in the middle of reading AFTER HOURS ON MILAGRO STREET!!!!!!!

The world truly is that small.

#331 Taco de alambre de res casero con quesillo y pagua sobre tortilla de harina.

El "alambre" es una forma genérica para conocer a una preparación de taquería que incluye carne de res, tocino, verduras como cebolla y pimientos en juliana, algún tipo de queso fundible, y diversas salsas para sazonar. Esta versión casera solo tiene carne de res, tocino, jamón y quesillo o queso de hebra; la versión casera de la familia Plascencia Mendoza.

La versión de este taco aprovecha las virtudes de esta interpretación familiar del alambre -que no tiene ninguna salsa sazonadora como Maggie o Inglesa- y la coloca sobre una tortilla de harina regiomontana y un toque de aguacate tipo pagua que redondea el sabor. El bocado final es mucho más terso y sutil que con tortilla de maíz, ya que se percibe con mayor suavidad, y cremosidad.

Now, story time!

So, Juliana and her sibs are mixed race.

Her mother is American and her father is Colombian.

Due to this, Joanne and Reyes were each disowned from their family's and decided to leave the place they lived. Being supportive, Alanso, Elba and Deidra decided to go with them, not before Deidra came out to her and Joanne's parents. Them leaving, despite being disowned, did not go well in both communities and Joanne and Deidra's brother, Markus Plaskett(whom I've yet to design), captain of the American brigade, made it his life mission to track down and bring both sisters home.

On the road, Joanne and Reyes married and each couple had their children along the way.

When Juliana reached the age of 17, her and her family finally reached the Encanto Valley, able to get in through the crack that remained from the movie events(a year prior to the Mendoza family's arrival).

Of course, many were shocked by the new arrivals and Alma was wary of them, but they were allowed to stay and make the Valley their home. It didn't take long for Juliana, her siblings and cousins to make friends with the young adults and children of the Encanto Valley, even befriending the Madrigal family.

Juliana first grew close to Mirabel, both girls being explorative and bold, before becoming havoc makers with Camilo. Of course, the two grow crushes on one another cause what's Disney without romance. Mirabel was still dragged along in their schemes, despite the two’s growing emotions.

Adding more into classical Disney, the happiness the family found didn't last long(maybe a month). Markus soon tracked the family to the Valley and he and his men attacked, setting fire to the village houses, leaving only the Madrigal house standing. Before leaving, Markus demanded the return of Joanne and Deidra.

With emotions high, the Mendoza family was immediately blamed for the attack, some even demanding they hand over the named women. But, with some calmed words and arguments from Mirabel, with backup from her family, does demands were quickly squashed,  leaving more 'what to do' questions.

After some arguments, agreements and planning, a plan was reached and the Madrigals and Mendozas set out to face Markus and his men. When they reached the brigades' camp(found just at Pedro's River), Alma demanded the brigade leave and never return to the Valley. Determined and cocky, Markus refused an demanded to have Joanne and Deidra brought to him, the two women having stayed behind in the village.

With the refusal, the attack began. Isabella used her plants to destroy tents, Antonio used his animals to chase soldiers away and convinced the horses to flee while Camilo shapeshifted to turn Markus's men against one another and Juliana and Mirabel set fire to the men's supplies and weapons, Juan and Alanso fighting men head on while Reyes faced Markus.

Eventually, Markus and his men were forced to retreat and the rallied Madrigals and Mendozas returned home. It was soon decided to reclose the mountain and, with Luisa's and Isabella's powers, it was soon done and the Encanto Valley was left in peace and to celebrate.

That's the gist of Juliana's tale, but, of course, there are some in-between dialog and story, but some things aren't concrete and haven't been thought up.

Santillana del Mar, Spain (No. 5)

In 1045 Ferdinand I granted it a charter, so the abbey probably became a collegiate church. Since then he received successive privileges and donations from the kings of Castile. From 1175 an organization with abbot and chapter is configured. Thanks to the support of the nobility, it managed to become the most important abbey in medieval Cantabria. In 1209 Alfonso VIII granted it a new charter, giving the town a town status. The monastery was already a collegiate church, a fact presumably verifiable in the documentation after 1107, with which Santillana became the capital of the Asturias of Santillana, being the abbot its lord.​

During the thirteenth century the abbey of Santa Juliana declined to become dependent on the diocese of Burgos, but began the urban development of the town, organized around the Plaza Mayor or the Market (today Plaza de Ramón Pelayo) and the Torre del Merino. As an expression of civil power, during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries some of the largest palaces and towers of the town were built. In 1445 King Juan II gave the lordship of the town to the first Marquis of Santillana and his successors, the Dukes of the Infantado (members of the family of Mendoza), thus creating the Marquesado de Santillana. The loss of the status of royalty meant ceasing to be the capital of corregimiento, initiating the decline of the town.

Dear Gus & Magnus,

I spent the day doing interviews with our Denver Water Team staff to help them expand the brand in Colorado. The best story: One of our engineers grew up in Juarez/El Paso with brown water coming out of the sink. Her mother used to tell her to let the water run for a while before drinking it because they weren't sure if it was safe. That little girl grew up, boarded a Greyhound bus, and put herself through school in Colorado, where she learned how to treat water. Now she's working to provide clean water to communities all over the Southwest. It's a powerful story that I'm glad I get to tell.

Because Yuliana is a native Spanish speaker, we decided to also interview her in Spanish. I took two years of Spanish in high school, three semesters in college, and Nene used to make us listen to Spanish lesson cassette tapes in her minivan when I was kid, but I still can't speak the language, so I had Sasha come in to run the interviews.

El sentido de la Vida en el ser Humano

Muchas personas al rededor del mundo se han preguntado esto alguna vez en su vida, el ¿Cuál es el sentido de la vida? o ¿Porqué existimos?

Preguntas que ya de por si se oyen muy filosóficas, pero ¿Realmente, existe alguna respuesta definitiva para estas preguntas?

La respuesta es si, pero ¿En donde se puede encontrar esas respuestas?, fácil, en la palabra de Dios.

Debido a que Dios nos creo para que seamos felices, a imagen y semejanza suya, es el que no dio dones como: La libertad, la capacidad de razonar, la voluntad, etc.

Y con la libertad que tenemos la podemos usar para buscar la felicidad eterna, la que nos proporciona Dios, siempre y cuando la utilicemos para eso, porque como dice la Biblia en 1 Corintios 10:23

´´Todo me es lícito, pero no todo conviene; todo me es lícito pero no todo edifica´´

Ya respondiendo las preguntas iniciales.

¿Cuál es el sentido de la vida? = El sentido de la vida es buscar la felicidad eterna.

¿Porqué existimos? = Existimos para ser felices.

Conclusión: Con Dios siempre encontraremos las respuestas a nuestras preguntas.

Illinois Governor! Yes, that's also up for election this year - incumbent JB Pritzker (D) v Darren Bailey (R)

A bunch of other state high-status offices like the Lieutenant Governor [Juliana Stratton (D) v Stephanie Trussell (R)], Attorney General [Kwame Raoul (D) v Thomas DeVore (R)], Secretary of State [Alexi Giannoulias (D) v Dan Brady (R)], Treasurer [Mike Frerichs (D) v Tom Demmer (R)], and Comptroller [Susana Mendoza (D) v Shannon Teresi (R)] are for election this year.
