Today's Line-Up
Jing: King of Bandits - (Subbed) original run: 2002 I'd read some of Twilight Tales in '07. I could only get a hold of so many volumes ... so I was pretty excited to find out there are 13 episodes! Some highlights from episode 1.

Some Anime OPs That Deserve Some More Love: Part 1 of 4
I figured I’d make this post about some anime OPs that I love (either because of the visuals, song, or both), but which aren’t often praised, discussed, or found on Top Anime Opening lists/ranked low/generally overlooked, either due to not being super mainstream anime or because of age.
(I’ll link to all of the other parts in the comments of each post).
Appare-Ranman: I got it!
youtube
Princess Jellyfish: Just Between Us
youtube
Eden of the East: Falling Down
youtube
Humanity Has Declined: Real World
youtube
Jing: King of Bandits: Shout it Loud
youtube
The video limit is five. But yeah, I wanted to start off this list with a mix of newer anime openings like Appare-Ranman’s, which is by PA Works, and does some really amusing stuff by blending slightly too advanced tech (like mixing a segway with the wild west, lol) and some older, and slightly more bizarre ones like Humanity Has Declined and Jing: King of Bandits.
Though, Humanity Has Declined also has that nice moe gap of post apocalyptic setting, but cute. While Jing has a feel to it that is very distinctively early 2000s, not only in the look of the art style and animation or the music itself, but it its general oddness as well. I can’t quite describe what I mean here though, lol.
Eden of the East’s OP is quite interesting, since it uses an Oasis song and the OP is quite experimental looking. It fits really well with the series though. Meanwhile, Princess Jellyfish’s OP is often looked over because it is a josei series, but it is so fun with it’s film references!

C’est un dessin que j’ai fais pour un challenge qu’on a fait entre amis. On devait redraw une couverture d’un manga de notre choix. J’ai choisis de faire Jing king of bandit t.1, parce que ça reste un manga que j’aime énormément.

Favorite manga?
as a kid: either One Piece or Magic Knight Ryearth. also strong nostalgia for Jing: King of Bandits which everyone seems to have shamefully forgotten about
as an adult: the obvious stuff like nausicaa & various taiyo matsumoto books/series (don't make me pick one). the jing of my adulthood would be dorohedoro I guess
at this very moment: I binged chainsaw man last year & am trying to keep up with it
tl;dr: too many

So glad I never got rid of them! Back when I first moved out I sold 90% of all my manga... only kept Trigun and King of Bandits Jing. I remember when vol 14 came out in English for Trigun-- I adored Vash so much even then 🥰🥹

Biography of Li Yansun (ZS43)
[And his father Changshou. Local commanders during the final division of Wei into two halves. Wei's Guang province was located straight south of Luoyang, at Luyang.]
Li Yansun was a native of Yichuan. His grandfather Bofu at the end of Wei's Taihe [477 – 499] era accompanied the campaign at Xuanhu [in 498 AD], had merit, and became Commandery Warden of Runan.
His father Changshou was by nature valiant and bold, and had martial skill. As young he connected with and had the trust of the Man chieftains, they frequently summoned and brought forth each other to raid and eliminate south of the frontier. Middle of Xiaochang [525 – 528], court opinion feared they would make chaos, and therefore used Changshou as Chief Controller who Defends the Man, and provided him with drums and tally, to comfort their thoughts. Changshou hoped following that to consequently obtain their trust and employment, and also exhausted his wisdom and strength in defending against and stopping the crowd of Man. Left and right in Yichuan, bandits and thieves were little by little made to stop.
After Yong'an [528 – 530], thieves and traitors rose up like wasps, and Changshou therefore summoned and assembled the fugitives from the rebellions. His followers and companions became daily more energetic. The Wei Emperor depended on his strength and usefulness, and owing to that he then comforted him. Therefore he was granted Holding the Tally and Great Chief Controller, and moved to garrison Zhangbai Fort. Later he became Commandery Warden of Hebei, and moved to Commandery Warden of Henei. At the locations he was successively placed, he everywhere got a reputation for fierce zealousness. He chastised and arrested various traitors, and frequently gained merit. He was granted Great General of Guards and Inspector of Beihua province, and was bestowed feudal rank as Duke of Qinghe commandery.
When Xiaowu of Wei moved west, Changshou led and exerted righteous soldiers to hold off Eastern Wei. Xiaowu praised him, and he was then granted Commandery Warden of Yingchuan, and transferred to Inspector of Guang province. Eastern Wei dispatched the Acting Tribunal Hou Jing to lead troops and attack him. Changshou's multitudes were few, the city was lost, and consequently he was murdered.
1st Year of Datong [535 AD], he was retroactively conferred Grand Commandant, Envoy Holding the Tally, Attendant-at-Centre, Great General of Agile Cavalry, the Various Army Affairs of Ji, Ding, Etc., Twelve Provinces, and Inspector of Ding province.
Yansun likewise was valiant and martial, and had talent and strategies for commanding forces. As young he accompanied Changshou on his campaigns and chastisements, and so gained gained a reputation for bravery and daring. He began as General of Straight Unity. Heba Sheng was Inspector of Jing province, he petitioned for Yansun to be Chief Controller. He was stern and pure on the jackdaw road, and had considerable merit and strength there. When Changshou was murdered, Yansun then turned back, and gathered and assembled his father's multitudes.
Since after Xiaowu of Wei moved west, the court's gentlemen had been drifting fugitives. The King of Guangling, Xin, the Recording the Masters of Writing, Zhangsun Zhi, the King of Yingchuan, Binzhi, the son of the King of Anchang, Jun, the various Kings of Jianning, Jiangxia, Longdong, and also those of the hundred officials etc. who brought with them their wives and children to come and throw in with Yansun, Yansun promptly led the multitudes to guard and send them them off, and [he?] also presented [them?] with precious playthings. Everyone reached Guanzhong.
Shenwu of Qi was deeply troubled about him, and dispatched the Acting Tribunal Murong Shaozong and others across several roads to attack him. Yansun exhorted and encouraged his section to set out and battle, and consequently greatly routed them. Approaching the battle lines he beheaded their Inspector of Yang province, Xue Xi. Hence the righteous army was further roused. Therefore granted Yansun Acting Tribunal South of the Capital, Authority for the Various Army Affairs of Henan, and Inspector of Guang province.
Soon after he advanced to Great General of Chariots and Cavalry, Ceremony Similar to the Three Ministers, and Great Chief Controller, and was bestowed the feudal title of Duke of Huashan commandery. Yansun then shouldered heavy appointments, but always considered subduing and purifying Yi and Luo to be his own responsibility. He again and again used the few to strike the many, awing and stirring the enemy's border area.
4th Year of Datong [538 AD], he was murdered by his Senior Clerk, Yang Bolan. Later he was conferred Minister of Works and Inspector of Ji, Ding, Etc. Six provinces. His son Renjie had his grandfather and father's manners. In office he reached Opening Office with Ceremony Similar to the Three Ministers and Inspector of He province, and changed his fief to Duke of Yingchuan commandery. Yansun's younger brother Yisun in office likewise reached Opening Office with Ceremony Similar to the Three Ministers.

5 songs I have been enjoying, tagged by @xigrif
gonna combine this one with with the last music meme they tagged me in that I forgot to do which was about albums, so I'll start with sharing two albums that are very special to me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are respectively the soundtracks to the anime Jing: King of Bandits and its OAV Seventh Heaven. They're both by Scudelia Electro/Eiji Yoshizawa (all these years I've had both listed as Scudelia Electro, but apparently only Yoshizawa worked on Seventh Heaven without the rest of the band). Seventh Heaven is an absolute banger from start to finish and I recently realized it's probably in my top 5 fav albums ever, while Treasure is a little more hit or miss but has the anime's opening and ending tracks so I love it almost as much.
ANYWAY here're 5 songs from them for the meme:
Sha La La - The Jing anime ending theme, and one of my favorite songs of all time period. Taught me I could like more chill songs as anime op/eds and just in general. (Growing up my favorite songs were as EDM-y as possible. I still love EDM I just like other things now too.)
Everblue - Nails the tone of "wandering through a dream" that the Seventh Heaven story is about, using motifs from Guiding Light. Heartbreakingly I cannot find a good upload of Guiding Light but it'd be on here if I could. Actually I can't find ANY more good uploads of songs from Seventh Heaven and I am DEVASTATED, I was also going to put Maraschino on here but the only video I found of it had horrible audio quality and it just doesn't deserve to be heard like that. But I'm all the more glad I found this then bcs it's one of my favorites.
Together We Fly - from the main anime. Yeah, just as background music, even though it's like a song-ass song. This and the last three are all instant mood lifters for me.
Night Cruise - My next most favorite one from Treasure, already doesn't really hold a candle to most things on Seventh Heaven but regardless I like it.
Shout It Loud - The opening theme of the Jing anime. I used to find the opening riff kinda harsh but now I love everything about this song.
anyway gonna tag @pyritefes2 for the "pick 5 songs you've been enjoying recently" portion of this, as well as anyone else who wants to. I mean it. If you want to do this and you don't know me, do it and say it's bcs of this post and tag me and I'll listen to the songs you share.

have you ever read King of Bandit: Jing?
Sure haven't, but after skimming the wiki I think I'd relate to the protagonist a lot.

hiya!
just stumbled over the soft ask game and thought tis might be fun. 1, 5 and 10 if ye dinnae mind c:
have a great day, night ... evening!
toodles
Hello pal!! Oooh awesome thank you!
1) your favourite playlist (made by yourself or someone else)
Oh my god I have so many favourite playlists XD I'm going to do top 5, because otherwise I'll be here all day. All but one I think are made by me, or by me and a pal collaboratively. (Because I like my own playlists so much lmao)
Okay to preface this - 1) most of my playlists are made for a specific fic I'm writing, 2) I am literally in love with almost every playlist I make so this was hard to narrow down, 3) most of them are sad ok?? I like sad music so be warned XD
and the counting of teeth (by myself and lovewithagirl, for our very fucking sad Jim/Ed OFMD WIP)
dust and bones, copper and blood (by myself, for the witch Clayton UnDeadwood au that's still in the works)
wish i knew how to quit you (by myself, for the nemesis au, a very sad very long Aly/Clayton UnDeadwood WIP - a lot of this was also suggested by various folks over on the udw server)
honey don't feed it (by myself, for the UnDeadwood shifter fic by the same name)
ready to be heartbroken (by myself, for the modern au Jim/Ed OFMD WIP)
There are SO many other ones I really love - there's a eastern canada themed one for the lighthouse au, a paranormal romance one I did not create that I fucking adore, etc. But those are the top ones XD
5) Five TV shows that cheer you up
I already answered this in another ask, but here's five MORE tv shows that cheer me up sjskskj
Slings and Arrows - another Very Canadian show about the theatre. Absolutely hilarious. Essential as someone who grew up in a theatre town.
Leverage (and Redemption) - I just love them so much!
Jing: King of Bandits - one of the only animes that I would still watch these days. I fucking adore it so much. My fav anime (and manga) series of all time for sure.
Miami Vice - Yes, the 80s one. Don't @ me okay I love it even if it's terrible, I went through a huge Miami Vice stage in my teens/early 20s. (My dad and I used to watch it together, and then I stole all his seasons to take with me to University lol)
Parks and Rec - I haven't watched it in a while but it's still SUCH a funny show.
10) Something you’ve created in the last year that you’re proud of (a playlist, a piece of art, some writing, a craft hobby, a social media account, etc)
Oh this is a really lovely question! A few things spring to mind.
I have an art piece that I made this year that was actually acquisitioned by one of my very small local museums. It's a piece that I'm super proud of, and it feels really neat that it's in a museum now! On a related note, I also started an art account earlier this year, which was a really big step for me art-wise. It's been fun, even if I'm really bad at updating.
Honestly I'm also super proud of a bunch of my fanfics that I've written this year! It feels like a bit more of a haphazard writing year, and I've been having trouble writing consistent fics lately, but I'm still proud of it :)
Thanks for the ask friend!! I hope you're having a wonderful evening!!
