Jennifer Anne Saville RA is a contemporary British painter and an original member of the Young British Artists. She is known for her large-scale painted depictions of nude women. Saville has been credited with originating a new and challenging method of painting the female nude and reinventing figure painting for contemporary art. Saville works and lives in Oxford, England.

On 5 October 2018 Saville's Propped (1992) sold at Sothebys' in London for £9.5 million, above its £3-£4 million estimate, becoming the most expensive work by a living female artist sold at auction

Saville trascende i limiti tra figurativo e astratto, tra informale e gestuale, riuscendo a trasfigurare la cronaca in un’immagine universale, che rimette al centro della storia dell’arte la figura umana - corpi enormi, nudi, dalla fisicità carnale e oppressi da un peso che è più esistenziale che materiale. Seville si riallaccia alla grande tradizione pittorica europea, in costante confronto con il modernismo di Willem de Kooning e Cy Twombly e la ritrattistica di Pablo Picasso e Francis Bacon. Il suo lavoro delinea una forte correlazione anche con i maestri del Rinascimento italiano, in particolare con alcuni grandi capolavori di Michelangelo. Il volume accoglie un ricco catalogo di dipinti e disegni creati dall’artista dagli anni ‘90 a oggi.
