Do you have a favorite romantic relationship from each season?

Yoo it's been a while since I've been asked for my td thoughts :) I answered an ask this before that you can check here but I’ll provide additional info in this one.

TDI

I have to go with Duncney in this one, their dynamic is strong and their storyline is very well handled IMO, Gwent was a more long term and endgame couple for this season but the issue with them is that their relationship status always seemed to reset every episode regardless of how much development they got in individual episodes, so it felt like it wasn’t going anywhere when it should, they liked each other since ep 1 but by the start of ep 16 they were still at that exact same status. With Duncney though the development they get in an episode carries on to the next, making it all cohesive and neat :)

TDA

I don’t think I was a big fan of many canon couples this season, Duncney was very hit or miss, Gwent broke up, Bridgeoff was hitting constant bump in the roads. I’d say Lesharold but I’m not sure if they count given they weren’t an official couple, and I preferred them in TDWT even though they had less screen time there. So I guess that really leaves us with Nizzy, but again I prefer them in TDI and TDWT. Guess TDA just isn’t my season.

Aleheather my beloved, we love an enemies to lovers and a WT Heather W (Heather’s win is canon to me). While I admit the writing wasn’t perfect when it came to consistency, one episode Alejandro flirts with Heather to tease her while another he doesn’t want people to think he like her, it’s our first properly well done endgame relationship in a season IMO. Seeing their constant complicated conflict is an absolute treat and it’s one of my favorite canon couples period.

TDROTI

Sometimes I wonder if I like Zoke because they’re cute or I can project so much onto them, that doesn’t matter though because my fave this season is Samkota! Dakota’s development learning to be less superficial in her judgement, learning to care for people, and finding someone in her life who not only actually likes her and cares for her as a person, but loves her? My heart <3 Sam starting out awkward messing up while trying to compliment her or finding things they have in common to being able to successfully swoon her is also adorable :)

TDAS

Unpopular opinion? I love Scottney, both how the season started presenting it as sorta like a Duncney 2.0 with Scott being the bad boy to Courtney’s uptight good girl, but also how they later go about it with Scott actually just being a mess with no experience in romance and Courtney somehow still being charmed by him despite knowing just how pathetic he is at trying to be romantic. It’s cute, it takes me back, I wish it last longer.

TDPI

Jashawn is considered the saving grace of Pahkitew by various people in the fandom, and while I enjoy the season more than your average td fan, I do admit it’s a highlight. They’re sweet and cute and it’s an a character screwing up and having to reevaluate their life viewpoints and priorities to be able to truly learn how to love someone and make up for their mistakes is a great development and one I don’t think we’ve seen before! The best we’ve seen the show handle couples having interpersonal conflicts I think.

Rajbow is an obvious one here, like even if I didn’t love them what other couple was there? Chemma? Hah, no. But luckily I do love them! I’m glad TD’s first queer characters/couple are mlm, since in the earlier seasons the mere idea of queer dudes was the butt of a joke rather than actual representation, it feels like this is making up for that. Bowie’s confidence and smarts contrasting and bouncing of Raj’s himbo energy and his still discovering his sexuality is very nice to see and very enjoyable. I hope to see them develop this couple further next season :)

Tag game that took me way too long to do

Hi, hello, I'm still here. Life and side-tracking happened a lot and, lately, my only online presence was some reblogs. Nonetheless!! How many works do you have on AO3? Just 6 so far!

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 100,271 (oh!! I didn't realize I hit the 100k word count before doing this!)

3. What fandoms do you write for? The Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age so far, but I would love to expand that list, and I have my eye on a few fandoms (looking directly at One Piece)

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? I only have six fics, and I don't really like looking at the statistics because it makes me terribly sad and unmotivated.

5. Do you respond to comments? Yes!!! Comments are everything to me. It may take some time to respond, but just know that I read the comments as soon as I get the email notification and I reread whenever I feel self conscious about my fics (which is *very* often lmao)

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? My longfics are not finished yet, but if you read chapter 15 of WYGTYA, then you'll know which one will have the angstiest ending Spoilers: it's Hymn of the Highs Seas, it's prequel. Author's note: WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO, I AM SO EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED TO THE PIRATES. But I *will* find a way to make it as satisfying an ending as possible, and it will most definitely have a fluffy/bittersweet epilogue. HOTHS will not be sad, I promise!

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? After all the shit I'll put Ravonna through, she deserves it the most, so WYGTYA, probably! Also, my Ralof/Hadvar fic has a really happy ending, if ya know what I mean :)))))

8. Do you get hate on fics? Not yet. I have this wonderful small community of dear readers and they're the most awesome people in the world <3

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Smut is not really my thing, so no. The most I'll do is imply.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I haven't, but I'll never say never!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of, and I doubt anyone would want to steal my writing out of anyone's

13. Have you ever co-written a fic? No, but I think it would be a very nice experience! I've spoken to a few beloved mutuals about crossovers in which Ravonna meets their ldbs, and I have an idea in mind where I could write a few chapters, each of them exploring Ravonna accidentally teleporting into their ldb's world, but it's still just an idea at the moment :)

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? That I've written? I don't know if I can choose because I love them all, but Rumcurio and Ralof/Hadvar are incredibly underrated ships in the TES fandom and I wish they had more content! Fave ship of all time? Well, right now I am watching Jujutsu Kaisen and I am, of course, having satosugu brainrot. They could have had everything :(((( So beautifully tragic, this one. The fix-it fanfics are amazing, too! But if I had to pick just one ship to be my favourite, I think I'll go with the ineffable husbands because 6000 years of pining is just exquisite <3 <3

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? A very sad and romantic reincarnation AU of WYGTYA where we get to see many versions of Ravonna through the ages! I say romantic, but knowing myself, it won't be super sappy. It's Ravonna that we're talking about here :))

16. What are your writing strengths? I would say that dialogue, and banter in particular. That's what flows the easiest to me, and I think that is how I'm able to express a character's traits and personality the best

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I believe there's room for improvement in all areas, but what I struggle with the most is angst, probably. I need to practice focusing on describing the character's feelings more. Also, politics. Crucial to the plot, but my mind never cooperates when I want to write politics.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue on another language in a fic? If it's a few words, it's fine, I think it adds flavour to the chapter, but translations should be provided. However, I would avoid writing entire paragraphs in another language, that's just confusing to readers.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Skyrim! I wrote for the Tes Summer Fest event in 2022!

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? I love them all very dearly, but hear me out!!! WYGTYA is my first baby, my longest fic and the thing that led me to start such beautiful friendships online. It will always have a special place in my heart! In my soul, there's a jewellery box dedicated to just WYGTYA, and it's all heart shaped and made out of love. Ravonna is by far my most developed oc, so much so that she feels like a real person sometimes when I think of her. She's even become a source of inspiration for me at times and her story with her fellowship will never fail to put a smile on my face. She's also such a big impact on my writing that I think she will become a blueprint for future stories that I write. Every story will have a Ravonna-type character, for sure. That's how much love I have for her! But I started writing WYGTYA as a beginner, and I sense that I will go back to some of the earlier chapters and re-edit some stuff. Right now, the fic that I'm most satisfied of is HOTHS. It's still at 2 chapters (soon to be three), but I'm so excited about this project, and the characters are all ocs, and my heart is so full of love for them that it overflows! It's also a pirate story, and I always have such a weak spot for pirates. It also follows the storyline and plot twist that I'm most proud of in WYGTYA, all about Ravonna's lineage. Damn, I guess I have Ravonna to thank for this, too. I'm just really happy with this twist and canon divergence in Deathbrand's character. I feel like he has so much potential in the TES Universe, and I'm about to explore all that and more in this fic!

episode that you love?

im only on season four but i've got a couple of faves so far:

1x21 'three stories': it's practically law that i have to include this. absolute classic of an episode. i love the format, i love the backstory we get, and i especially love the med students!! they were fun and i hope they come back at some point. probably not but im still holding out hope. teacher!house was great to see too, and the deep-dive into his backstory is so delightfully painful and heart-wrenching,,, oughgh

2x07 'hunting': very fun episode!! "what, because you're a closet case?" absolutely killed me the first time i watched it. get their asses lmao. also we get to see steve mcqueen (my beloved <3) and cameron on meth - fun times!

2x15 'clueless' and 2x16 'safe': mainly for the hilson roommates subplot tbf, but the cases were interesting too! these eps also had a lot of funny moments, like wilson sawing through house's cane and the whole tick debacle lmao

3x02 'cane & able': where do i start with this one. first of all the awful cgi hallucinations were fucking hilarious, i was so fucking confused tho. like the whole time i was just going helllo???? aliens????? great stuff. the rest case itself was really fun too!! and this is the one where we get the infamous "i was worried that your wings would melt" speech. oughghgh top tier content right there.

3x04 'lines in the sand': controversial take right here. this is the infamous autism episode. the way they handled it was. well. it was 2006. so. the case itself was interesting too, but the main highlight for me is the autistic house moments <3 and look. i KNOW wilson says house doesn't actually have autism. but MASKING EXISTS, WILSON!! you can pry this headcanon out of my cold dead hands. i support autism rights but i also support autism wrongs or however the meme goes. more people should get to be autistic and jerks i think <3 (saying all this as a guy who most likely has autism btw. i havent got an official diagnosis but uhhhh yeah it's Likely.)

3x07 'son of coma guy': hilson road trip! plus coma guy ig. but mainly hilson road trip :) i love them.

4x02 'the right stuff': i love love love the whole gameshow-esque thing house starts. we get to see some great characters (amber! kutner! dobson my beloved!!!!), and it's just all round a bit of fun. love it.

4x05 'mirror mirror': another fun one!! the mirror syndrome guy gives us a lot of fun insights into the applicant's personalities, i thought that was a really fun way of showing it rather than have a million expositions about each of them lol. also the banter was fun this episode, especially between house, wilson and cuddy. also we find out that wilson is more dominant than house and that kutner's a masochist. great fuel for fic writers. fun!

4x12 'don't ever change': ohohhoo i love this one. the case was alright but the best bit abt it imo was the house, wilson and amber dynamic. i love this trio so fucking much you don't understand,,, i honestly think we should've got poly wilson/amber/house. just think abt it... house and amber friendly rivalry... teaming up to bully wilson... and also amber and wilson bullying house together... would it be a little dysfunctional? yes. but that's to be expected in this show lmao. idk why this turned into a pitch for these three i just love them very very much <3

4x13 'no more mr. nice guy': again for the wilson/amber/house dynamic. this one is very fun i love their custody dispute over wilson, and the dog analogy was very funny to me. and cuddy making house and amber do coma patient duty lmao. AND bisexual thirteen!! love her <3

i haven't actually gotten to the last couple episodes of s4 yet because uhhhh Bad Things Happen and i am delaying the inevitable. send help. but i am sure they are very good and will probably make this list once i get around to watching them!

honourable mentions include 2x13 'skin deep' (purely for the scene where house is in the mri machine and wilson pretends to be god lol), 3x22 'resignation' (for the wilson on amphetamines scene. "i'm not on antidepressants, i'm on speeeeeeeed!" gets me every fucking time) and 4x01 'alone' (house and wilson prank war!!!)

soooo yeah those are my favourites :) and i'm sure there'll be a lot more once i finish the rest of the show but like i said i am Procrastinating lmao

I absolutely love TBS, and I got my uncle to listen to it : from all the podcasts I rec'ed to him, this is the one he prefers! I really appreciate how complex (yet coherent) all of your characters are, and how real their relationships seem. The way you write flaws is really inspiring and incredibly comforting as well. Do you maybe have any advice on how to write believable romantic relationships? I've never had one and thus struggle to write it, especially the process of starting to build one.

I also really appreciate the kind words about character flaws - I love writing complex and imperfect characters, so its always nice to know when they resonate!

in terms of romantic relationships....that's SUCH an interesting question. and I absolutely do not think that having a romantic relationship in your real life is a precursor to writing compelling romantic relationships. when I wrote TBS, I'd only had one serious romantic relationship and used exactly....zero of it for inspiration. I'm in a serious partnership now (only my second serious relationship) and I don't think I ever really directly draw on it - it's a relationship that's taught me a lot about myself and helped me grow (as great friendships do too), which of course makes me a better writer (and I hope a better human too), but when I'm writing romance, I feel like I'm building it from an entirely different set of blocks, if that makes sense.

I think a big part of it is that I love romance. I love love love it. and there's so much I love in romance stories that I would never ever want in my real life! which I think gives me the flexibility of (hopefully) being able to write different types of relationships.

okay, so, then, where do I turn for inspiration if not in my real life? well, a few things:

read romance! a few favorites from the last few years - anything by Alexis Hall (Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake and Boyfriend Material are two faves and I'm reading and loving A Lady for a Duke right now), The Charm Offensive, The Ex Talk, One Last Stop, Spoiler Alert

read Romancing the Beat by Gwen Hayes! it's a book all about how to structure romance novels, but I think all the principles apply to all mediums

watch and rewatch your favorite romances in tv/film and take notes on what works for you and what doesn't. I can't tell you the number of times I've watched the 2005 P&P. I've thought seriously about why Rachel/Joey works for me in Friends more than Rachel/Ross. I've watched how they pull off the will-they-won't-they in New Girl and Chuck a million times (both are a masterclass in timing - they get the two people together within the first two seasons (VITAL!!! you can't take too long!) and then maintain tension and conflict while giving you reasons to always keep rooting for them). Hannibal is one of my favorite tv shows of all time specifically for the way it unfolds its central romance - how do you make a story a love story when it is primarily about murder and losing your mind? what does that love story look like when consummated? (bloody, the answer is bloody)

and then I love reading fanfic of these love stories! what does Jonah/Amy from Superstore look like if they get together earlier and other parts of life don't get in the way? what happens if you pair a character with their canon partner versus a non-canon partner? a big thing I've been doing recently is diving into the tag for popular ships on tumblr that I don't personally ship. there's lots of ships in things I watch where I'm like "I get it, but I don't feel it" and I think it's so valuable to read a few beloved fics to try and understand it. even if that understanding is "nope! still don't like it!" that's so valuable too!

which brings me to - keeping notes. I have a running list of themes/tropes/archetypes/romance arcs that I like and dislike (sometimes this is a real list, sometimes its mental). it's just as important to know what you don't like as it is what you do. especially since, if you come across a trope you don't like in something but it doesn't bother you as much in a particular ship, you can learn so much from how that person wrote that trope in a way that didn't bug you! for instance, both cheating and accidental pregnancy are two big turn-offs for me in terms of ships, but, like, Sense8 with Kala/Wolfgang/Rajan tracked over some cheating elements but did it SO elegantly (and then solved the problem of love triangles the way I wish ALL love triangles were solved lol).

let all this stuff stew and marinate and when it comes to building a romance, start with the things you know you like! for instance, with Caleb/Adam and Max/Ross (The Bright Sessions and Maxine Miles respectively) I knew I wanted to start with a kind of enemies-to-lovers, because that usually compels me more than childhood-friends-to-lovers. BUT because they're teenagers and teenagers can be very cruel, I wanted to make sure never to veer into the bully/bullied getting together trope, because that's veryyyyy hard to do well imo. so Caleb and Adam were more slightly estranged/not friendly rather than enemies and Max and Ross had the history of being friends and then just growing up and starting to annoy each other bc deep down they wanted to kiss. that's another thing I love - mutual pining. and with that, it can't just be that each character is pining equally and equally aware of it - Adam knew he was pining for Caleb but Caleb had no idea until all of a sudden he did, and then his ability created a nice complicating factor for the pining. for Max and Ross, it's the same thing - Ross knows he's pining and Max is pining but oblivious about it (for now). for mutual pining in general, there has to be a reason why they can't just get their acts together, and one of them being an idiot is usually a good one lol. or, I'm writing a cowboy romance right now, and both men know they're pining but there's so much baggage in their past (enemies to friends to pining to enemies to reluctant partners to lovers) that they're shoving it down

practice on fanfic! I did this so much last year, and worked out a lot of different strategies - fanfic bingos are great for practice because they can force you to try out tropes you wouldn't ordinarily

Yeah. Like I watched seven episodes the first day (so six after I initially sent you the message) and finished it the next. Like I wanted to get to Lawless’ episodes because I just wanted to know what he sounded like and then the episode ended with a small bit of him and I just needed to watch a bit more but after episode 7 I knew I could take a break. I just couldn’t stop because of how much I loved it  and wanted to see what would happen next. I see. I might be wrong here since I still haven’t touched the manga and have only watched the movie today but from what I saw on the wiki and in the movie, it seems like the movie takes place after the events of the 12th episode but covers events that happened before the Greed pair appeared (like it literally says it covers those events on the wiki so I’ll see for myself at some point). So it’s a bit different. But either way it was a really good movie and I definitely enjoyed it and hope you do as well. And that’s totally cool. Like I also took days to respond last time because I wasn’t able to find the time before then. And I sent so many messages this time, with sure some images but it’s still *a lot*. I love how you’re surprised by Lawless since for me loving him just made sense. Me too when it comes down to Mikuni. Like the movie revealed some stuff about his past and even though it answered some things, I’m still really intrigued about him and just want to see his full life and how he got Abel. No. For a change you’re absolutely wrong. It’s Lawless’s constantly caring and protective side even though I know he doesn’t always say the best things (and can be quite merciless at times). Also like, he’s the only one who disagreed with all of his siblings about that thing in the past after the vote had been then so it shows how good his heart is. Licht is just not my kind of guy and he’s just far too aggressive towards Lawless at times for my liking. Like even if Lawless wasn’t one of my faves, I’d still think that. But I do really like their song. And yeah. Like I loved his voice first and then him. Which was a bit unfair but it is what it is. I love that the opening is so inspirational to you.

I think the anime might’ve gotten ahead in some ways but yeah, I’ll see. And it’s nice to hear that the manga is just as enjoyable. I don’t know when I’ll get to it, maybe in a few weeks or so, but I’ll definitely let you know then.

Also, on an entirely different note I wanted to check your fandom list to see whether there were any other anime I might liked and went to look up ‘Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun’ since that’s one of the first ones on your list. Upon seeing the poster and images, I was like “Too colourful for me” but I still scrolled down to see which voice actors it has and Lawless’s voice actor voices a main character (Alice Asmodeus) so I’ll probably also try to check that out and some point. Not only that but Hugh’s voice actor (who does Hinata in Haikyuu!!) is the main main character so yeah, no chance of resisting that.

So, to start replying to C! I'm so glad you enjoyed the anime enough to speed through it like that. I love also that wanting to hear a particular voice actor in their part made you so excited for the upcoming episodes and I really enjoy how much voice actors work means to you, how you have all these favourite voice actors and really recognize and respect their hard work in bringing these beloved characters to the screen or their work in making these characters so beloved. I know there are active fandoms out there for particular voice actors, but I still always feel like they're a little underloved and not as recognized as they should be within fandom as a whole, so your excitement and love for them is great to see. As more of a manga reader myself, like I've said, I honestly don't know a lot of the voice actors as well as you do, but even I have my favourites (just as I have my favourite podcasters, because their voices soothe me and make me feel comforted). And I will definitely look forward to watching the movie then and am glad you enjoyed it!

And I was surprised! I love the fact that you surprise me, even as well as we've gotten to know each other. And I will guarantee that the manga goes more into Mikuni and Abel and it's really lovely (and some beautiful manga panels just artistically speaking, just giving my opinion here). And see, I think that might be another way the anime really differed from the manga, in reagards to the vote, because there were multiple siblings in the manga for sure who had been against it. And that is interesting to read, your views and interpretations of both Licht and Lawless so thank you so much for sharing that! It was a great read!

Lastly, before we get into the other messages and really getting into what thoughts people had on Servamp anime versus Servamp manga, I'm going to answer C properly on her last paragraph. Again, I'm trash with recognizing different voices (and do watch Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun dubbed, sue me, it's easier to do as I often sit and do my embroidery with the episodes) so I hadn't realized they shared a voice! Or that Hugh was also Hinata! That was cool to learn. I will say I love Alice and definitely think you'll enjoy him if you do end up trying Iruma-kun, though I'm actually making a pretty solid bet that he won't end up being your absolute favourite, even with the voice being an actor you love! Just not enough in common with your normal favourites, and I do think at least one of the staff will be among your favourites lists. I do see your 'very colourful' comments on Iruma-kun, but honestly, it's one of the more recent anime/mangas that really remind me of the classic Big 3 (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece) that were huge throughout the time I was coming into fandom proper and even being new, it has this great nostalgic vibe to me probably because of that. I would really recommend it to anyone who loves any of those.

Now into the actual comments and views on the manga versus anime for Servamp! Like I said, I don't know if C saw these on the actual post, so just reposting them here to make sure they do!

I think I'm realizing that I'm actually probably really lenient on what I consider a good adaptation, haha, but maybe that's because I've suffered through some really terrible adaptions (2016 Berserk, which remains one of the worst I've ever seen, Deadman Wonderland's anime adaption which turned a largely horror based manga to kind of straight shounen, Bleach where the anime was at least a good 40% filler and which really did water down a lot of the battles, the dub of Ghost Stories which like…it's so bad it's funny and I honestly do feel bad for anyone who wanted and still wants a good dub of that, the Junji Ito anime collection which was doomed from the beginning because I really don't think there's a good way to properly translate Ito from page to screen, the way Soul Eater ended makes it to me a horrible adaption because fuck that ending, Saiyuki in a way because even though I do love the anime I'll admit it severely watered down a lot of things and did censor a lot to make it suitable for broadcast, the reminder that the 4kids dub of One Piece exists, Eyeshield 21's anime). So maybe I have been too forgiving because the general consensus does really seem to be that the manga and anime diverged greatly and that the best bet is to read the manga from the beginning to really get the full story. And, since I admit to being mostly manga now on that, though I do enjoy watching the anime every now and then, I do get and appreciate everyone's views on that! I’ve been in love with your fics ever since I read Waiting for that Feeling and now I finally get to share a proper reclist with your hidden gems!

I’ve told you this before but the first word that comes to mind when I think of your writing is “refreshing”. Your characters are a charming mix of open and tentative, a bit bold and a bit shy, and I can never guess what they’re doing or saying next, which is really exciting because it keeps me engaged at all times. I love how your Harry and Draco have such unique and interesting personalities; considering so many authors focus on Draco’s POV, your Harry has quickly become one of the most captivating takes I’ve seen on him lately.

Whenever I’m reading a iota fic I’m surprised by an unexpected joke that makes me snort out loud, or a subtle confession that makes me take a deep breath and go back to reread that line a few times. I love your brand of slice-of-life, light and fun but also contemplative and so so sexy (honestly, I haven’t seen someone make T and M content this sexy in a long time!) with low key angst, clever humor, engaging dialogue and A+ purposeful flirting. Your delicious UST and fab sense of humour got me immediately obsessed with both Heartlines and A Truth - I remember thinking “Wow iota has such a cool VIBE and I love it!”. Being in such a big fandom surrounded by many talented authors, I think it’s impressive that you found a strong, unique voice and are able to come up with original ways to approach these characters and tropes.

I’m always excited when I see you’ve posted a new fic because I know it’s gonna be a lovely treat perfectly crafted to meet my tastes. My picks probably aren’t a surprise to anyone - least of all iota 😂 - as I’ve been praising these gems for a while now. Eavesdrop (2021, T, 1k) - technically a microfic but I like it so much I wanted to include a small review. I love this concept and how iota gives them so much character here, jealous Harry is so hot! They come together nice and easy, and the hopeful ending left me wanting all the 8th year sneaking around (sorry, Michael!)

The walls at the Leaky Cauldron were paper thin. Harry knew this because he could hear Malfoy next door.

Market Saturdays (2021, M, 3.2k) - you know what they say, market romance is peak romance!!! This domestic fluff is everything I didn’t know I needed, I’ve read this fic multiple times and it never fails to make my heart ache with sweet tenderness for them. This gentle short story will cleanse your skin and cure your anxiety, results guaranteed or your money back 👌🏼

In which Harry is an accidental part-time cheesemonger, Draco is an organic farmer and they fall in love. Not an AU.

Waiting for that Feeling (2021, T, 3.8k) - road trip my beloved! This is a breathtaking and immersive friends to lovers tale with light angst, a perfect Ronald Weasley and soft contemplative vibes. It was my very first iota fic and it became an instant fave, I’ll always have a special spot for it inside my heart.

Postcards From Italy (2021, E, 6k) - the CMBYN AU we deserve! This fic combines delicious summery vibes with the gorgeous Italian aesthetique and a sexy, organic and quite charming acquaintances-to-lovers get together. I wanna live inside this pool party/nightclub/bathtub perfect universe, please and thank!

A pool party, a nightclub, a bathtub. Draco Malfoy is the last person Harry expected to run into the summer before his third year of university, but he's not complaining (at least not anymore).

Not Nineteen Forever (2022, E, 6k) - I still can’t believe this wonderful de-aging goodness was written for Liv day! This is a perfect Auror partners romance with the BEST sassy 19yo Draco, pining Harry, sweet friends to lovers with adorable flirting and a nod to Daddy kink 😳 basically everything I love in one place, sweet and clever and smutty as all lovely things iota creates.

A rogue charm hits on a mission and suddenly, Draco is nineteen again. Harry is still thirty-five and doing his best to look after his de-aged Auror partner (and forget about his long unrequited crush) until St. Mungo’s can brew the antidote. Only, Draco insists on wandering around Harry’s flat wearing nothing but Harry’s pants, flirting like his life depends on it and in the end, Harry’s only human after all. Read my rec here.

A Truth Universally Acknowledged (2021, M, 17k) - the ultimate P&P-inspired Drarry with perfect enemies to fuck buddies to friends (and lovers). Harry’s voice and want for Draco! The urgent sneaking around! The countryside romance! This fic is so so good it left me a bit incoherent, please expect a proper rec as soon as I stop screaming about this.

A year out from the war, Harry agrees to accompany Hermione on a historical walking tour of Pride and Prejudice. Not in the itinerary: running into Draco Malfoy, setting off a summer of stately homes, lavish parties, resentful shagging, and maybe, falling in love.

Heartlines (2022, T, 22k) - my favorite Cluefest this year, excellent and intriguing case fic with sentient Houses, competent Auror!Harry, surprising and brilliant sense of humour, delicious slow burn with clever dialogue and tons of UST! This fic is sexy, mysterious, funny and charming all at once, definitely a must read.

Just as Draco Malfoy's life seems to be getting back on track, the magic at Malfoy Manor is spinning out of control. Auror partners Harry Potter and Angelina Johnson are assigned to the case and quickly find that nothing about the situation is obvious. The flare ups are unpredictable at best, downright dangerous at worst, and why has a Hogwarts first year gone missing at the same time? Read my rec here.

Also, a running theme for most of my faves is that they have overcome being otherized and/or trauma and came out being pettier and more self righteous, lol.

Uchiha Sasuke from Naruto. Pettiest bitch alive and he DESERVES IT! Should be pettier.

Wei Wuxian from MDZS/The Untamed. Went through hell, kinda literally, and did awful things but still chose to do the right thing, every single fucking time.

Fenris from Dragon Age. Watching him emerge from such an awful place and learn to let people in, while remaining sooo rough around the edges, was lovely.

Spock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From both TOS and AOS, less so from Disco/SNW, because he's just so fucking funny and also watching him be so repressed and then be forced out of that repression is fun. I love him. Baby boy.

Joy from EEAAO. Loved watching her anger, loved watching her creativity, and I loved watching her anger make her mother change. I love that she was able to give up the anger because she was finally seen and her hurt was legitimized.

NGL.... it's still my boy Edward Elric. In many ways, I should let him go. But he was my first rep of atheism in literally the funniest fucking way ("Yeah I've seen God but... nah.") and I still enjoyed his journey, even if I now have major issues with the narrative and apologism and recognize Scar as a far more compelling character than Edward. Sorry to everyone but when I saw Edward at age.... 13, I did not realize what war crime apologism looked like. At least I let go of stanning Mustang. Cause I wanted that man carnally for a long time.

Sook-hee from The Handmaiden. Watching her fuck shit up was cathartic.

I need to finish my watch through (bingewatching two seasons in a week was mentally taxing, tbh) but Flint and Max from Black Sails. Again... love a selfish character who has felt left behind by the world and so they take what they can from the world. They deserve it!

Recency bias I guess but I'm REALLY loving Frieren from... Frieren. Watching her learn to value other people while going around with her lil :3 face is nice.

I feel like this list is leaving a lot of faves out--my lovely Sailor Jupiter who I imprinted on like a baby duck and have carried in my heart ever since, Dimitri Fire Emblem, Qifrey, and probably so many more. The characters that I love just for horny reasons (Yae Miko, Kaveh, Tighnari my beloveds). Characters I love for their potential (Finn, Poe, and Rey from Star Wars)(Also Cassian but I guess I could love him more if I watched Andor but I will not be watching Disney+ shows.) Characters who I love now (Louis, Lestat, Claudia from IWTV the show) but haven't finished their arcs yet, so idk how I'll feel int he future. Etc etc.

I will also say that this list feels a biiiiiit swayed by characters who I have experienced more in fandom. There are characters from one off books, video games, comics that I CONNECT with more, maybe idolized more, but engage with less often because there's no fandom, so they come to mind less immediately. And they've been butchered less by fanon, so I don't project onto them as much. Like they are FULLER vessels, which means they have less room for me to go "Oh, yeah, we are exactly the same. Let me into your brain."

This list is mainly of characters I love to play with like bratz dolls in my brain and is less about like... maybe heavily fucking with them while consuming their media and then being able to let them go when I'm done.

5 Masamune and Kenta, the little interaction they had was really nice, their energies worked well together, it was a cool moment for Masamune too. I wish Kenta could have had more time to shine in Masters and in general, and idk their arcs work well together too?

4 King and Zeo, their personalities are so different and just,, I think it would be explosive and uncomfortable at first but they could be good friends eventually. This is totally based on Deity's fanfic about team dungeon

3 Ryuga and Hyoma: Yeah I know I'm annoying rgfhjekl This is one of my favourite character dynamic that literally doesn't exist and that I made up from 2 lines of dialogue and one frame where they face each other, that's it,, it's mostly based on a joke, like Hyoma following Ryuga around and being annoying and chaotic, breaking the dragon boy's mind... But also I think there's like a lot of potential between these two,, once again based on one thrownaway line from a beyblade ds game. And just,, I want my two faves interacting and fighting and Ryuga being roasted, that's all

2 Hikaru and Gingka: like,, in canon? it's so little elements when there's so much to think about... Thank you Deity and Sadie for bringing Hikaru and Gingka sibling dynamic to life!! Hikaru totally becomes a Hagane, thats canon in my mind. They are just so dear to me, they can bond about pressure and dead parents (lol), their relationship to failure, to learning to trust their friends... They should have been bigger rivals like pls,, i keep thinking that their relationship and dynamic could have been so much better than the Kyoya/Gingka rivalry fr... So yeah, Gingka Hikaru rival/sibling dynamic my beloved

1 Gingka and Hyoma: Most things related to Hyoma are like,, one line of dialogue that my brain somehow connects to his character traits and story and it's pretty sad :') But I really like to think about a pretty complicated relationship bc they love each other so much, but after the dark nebula attack and Gingka having to leave Koma, he changed so much, Hyoma notices it and I imagine a distance growing between them as the seasons go on. Not helped by the fact that Hyoma just disappears from the canon too :') but it's so interesting to think about their dynamic, as people who mean so much to each other, had to see the other change and leave, maybe they don't know what to do exactly to support the other? Maybe there's a little bit of bitterness and jealousy from both, Hyoma from seeing Gingka being always so far ahead and at the center of everything, always saving the day, and Gingka from just seeing Hyoma being able to stay in the village like nothing happened, keeping this place of paradise that he couldn't keep??? Idk there's so much like aaa And their dynamic makes me think a lot about moomin&snufkin relationship too I love them soo much

when she almost deviated from her goal for San… so relatable. we are all like mc. i mean im ready to give it all up for san anytime. and gosh the way he’s so strong and mighty then a small little docile kitten with hwa. ughhh i love this duality so much!!! tbh i wanna own him. i want him to be my guard dog in public and my docile kitten in private <3 (san if you read this give me once chance lol)

but girl this : You stared out at the metropolis through the windshield, registering your beloved criminal’s movements towards you. As you studied the glinting whites, reds and yellows that formed the urban starscape, you could not help but ponder how, out of all the millions of people, in this architectural phenomenon that seemed to stretch on forever, on a day when you were not even supposed to be where you had ended up being, you had run into none other than Park Seonghwa. And as fate would have it, you were naive enough to let him take everything from you. And being the loved up, hypnotised fool that you were, you thanked him for the misery in which you found yourself, because at least he made you feel. With him you were a disaster, but you saw life in colour. With him it was impossible to tell whether there would be a tomorrow, but you could exist in an exuberant today. With him, the everchanging palette of emotion had a canvas to paint on. And tonight, you were going to let the masterpiece create itself.

i literally ASCENDED!!! this is absolutely beautiful! the scenery! the resignation in mc! you can really feel she’s letting go, giving in to the monster! i loved that and the word choice!!!! every single one of them slapped in the face and i said thank you everytime!!!! such powerful poetry! 

ok the main course

i absolutely LOVED the narrative style in this!!!!! i loved how the exposition wasnt linear! how as the reader you kinda had to piece the info and hints together to actually understand what happened between mc and hwa. it was brilliant how you were able to keep me on the edge of my seat wondering what the hell he did to her. and when you finally get it when you piece that he framed her, that he killed her ex for her! it’s a beautiful and complete puzzle ughhh so good. 

and good god the character development!!!!!!! how mc goes from obsessed with revenge, obsessed with him and then resigned! it’s beautiful like as you read you can feel her very soul tearing with each conclusion she makes!!!!!! when she realizes hwa manipulated her fate once again with the dude in the back alley!!!!! and she just turns into a maniac for a second just to touch absolute serenity seconds later!! so gooooddd!

which brings me to the man of the hour!!!! hwa!!!!! i loved him !!!! i loved every wicked aspect of him! i loved that he was obsessed with mc but not really her more like the girl she could be. i love how you stated at the beginning that when hwa wants something he gets it. and what he wanted from mc was to break down the woman she was just to rebuild her into the woman he wanted her to be and he did that perfectly. planning every little detail until she was exactly where he wanted her to be. she became just as crazy as he wanted her. the cold hearted bitch he wanted. someone he could hate and love and love and hate on and on. until he would eventually grow tired of his toy and kill her and she accepted this fate she decided to own it ughhhh i love desperation so much <3333

AND THE ENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH that was legit my reaction!!!!!!

when mc said “didnt you say you’d keep my hands clean…” i was like omg nooooo bai is about to go there isnt she ???????? then she continued with the questions and i was just screaming!!!!!!!!!! and i just know hwa knew that he succeeded!!! he knew he transformed her!!!! i just know he had the biggest boner hahaha and the fact that throughout this masterpiece you depicted him well enough that we KNOW he could do it!!! he could just take the gun to his head and shoot because he’s that crazy!!! that would be the ultimate test for mc! framing her for his own murderrrrrr omgggg im foaming at the mouth like a rabid racoon because im going completely crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly you mention this just as I am currently on a little bit of a san brainrot wave, and this is hitting different – perhaps the signs had been there even earlier and I was either in denial or oblivious to them lol; Both mc and Seonghwa try to act all ‘cool’ and smooth, be it to inflict wounds of jealousy or desire, or to present an odd version of nonchalance either way they are on interesting terms~ Ahahaah and the way I was thinking of Jongho when writing that part you mentioned~~ corrupt judge Jongho is pretty much canon so it had to be done~

Aaaah I am really happy that you liked the narrative style <3 I wanted to try my best to keep to a more ‘show’ rather than ‘tell’ style here, since there is more dark aspects to the story, crime/mystery tinges here and there (at least attempts at them), and I wanted the ‘what in the world happened’ to be hanging above the character’s heads like a sword, and then come together as these memories, that betrayal, the intensity of it all comes flying back. <3 And dfkjsglfsdf please I bow to you, am on my knees, bless you, really; thank you so much for your words on character development ;~; <3 I wanted to interlace emotional development (or turmoil lol) with the narrative itself so I am just incredibly glad that you enjoyed that!

Oh my goodness I am genuinely speechless, thank you ;~; It was a challenge to try and depict Seonghwa in a villain role (especially when constantly seeing updates on SNS and edits etc of him being literally the softest sunshine ahah) so really I am grateful that you liked his character in Bang Bang <33 At the end of the day, mafia!Hwa does not love, and if he does, it is the idea that he has crafted in his head, and will stop at nothing to bend the foundation (aka the person) to fit said idea. He wants to see people break, and he wants to be their demise and then their creator. And then, decide exactly when their time has run out. Effectively, he loves control. He desires nothing more than to take it away from others. Really I am just elated that you enjoyed!!!!! <33

Cat I am so so happy that you enjoyed the ending and the way in which mafia!Hwa’s character has been set up and grew to be the man, the monster, who actually could play into this ‘final request’ and potentially still win in some sense, or at least have his final thought be that he did. Also, while writing this I had the notion of the ‘sunrise’ and what that time of day means kind of replaying in my head, since if such an event (that is implied) is to occur, it could be seen as redemption, it could be seen as a new chapter, or it could be seen as an eradication of darkness (but who is it that perishes?). Overall the ending was in some ways a surprise even for myself, because initially I had one avenue planned out, and then… well I guess the two characters in the Rolls Royce steered themselves in another direction (and ahah I am right there with you in terms of open endings – closure? What? Huh? Lol)

Do you have any easter eggs in your fic?

I've been trying to add in easter eggs into my multi chapter fics lately!! Currently in The Snake Followed Me Home From Georgia I've been playing around with names for things that could be easter eggs for Hope County. Like I might have John's law firm be called Holland Law (not sure if that's too obvious and on the nose tho so i'm marinating on it). I am tossing some ideas for other easter eggs but i'm not sold on them yet so I won't say anything ahsjsnsns

What's a piece of lore you haven't shown in your fic or don't think you'll be able to add in?

I haven't shown a Lot (But admittedly I also haven't written a Lot) but I think some OC's backstories may not properly make it to the light of day in most of my fics. Unless I start seperate fics for all of my OC's their childhoods and lives up until the current story events will only be known outside of the fic when I talk about them or in very small snippets of dialogue.

I also haven't gotten to it yet in any of my fics but Marvin (Joseph's right hand man peggie who is basically the compound house husband but in a platonic way) has history with Dean and that history is that Dean was close friends with Marvin's late wife back in the day (and therefore Marvin) and !! This will hopefully come into play during at least my main fc5 fic when Dean is taking over an outpost and stops Jess from killing him! (Common Dean L not letting Jess murder and maim like she deserves 🙄)

What character do you enjoy writing most? Why?

Out of canon characters I really love writing Sharky, as a dumb lil guy myself I find him easy to write and he's just a lovable goofball who sparks joy!!

John is a close second even though i'm insecure about how I portray him sometimes, we all make fun of him but I adore his character and getting into his head is a nice challenge.

Honorable mentions would have to be Deadpool and Alvin Murphy from Z Nation, again they fall into characters I just find come natural to me when I write!

Out of my OC's I feel it's very obvious I love writing Dean, he's just My Blorbo you know? I can toss him around in any context and be happy and confident in how i've written him BUT. MOST IMPORTANTLY. I love his kids and writing him with his kids is pure serotonin and if I could only focus on one fic for the rest of my life i'd choose Second Chances hands down.

What is your favourite line/interaction in your fic?

OH GOD OKAY. So there are a lot but I have a scene in chapter one of my fic Blue (mediaeval au my beloved) where Dean and Sharky have a lil reunion after not seeing each other for a while and Dean had carried a boar he caught to Sharky's hut effortlessly and when Sharky tries to lift it he Struggles. (And then freaks Dean out with his carelessnes with a knife) It's just two of my fave idiots interacting and the whole scene (and chapter tbh as it focuses on them and Hurk) brings me joy even if the writing is old !!

Sharky giggles, nudging them with his shoulder as he passes them and attempts to pick up their sack. His giggles are cut short as he grunts at the effort, sack dropping back onto the dirt as quickly as he had lifted it but a centimeter from the ground. Dean's laughter doubles, sides shaking as Sharky's brows furrow and his head whips around to look at them in disbelief.

"How far 'd ya carry this?!" He asks, struggling to drag the sack towards the campfire as Dean holds themself up with their hands on their knees. They shake their head wordlessly, fighting to mute their laughter only to erupt into small giggles as they calm themself down.

"Only a mile i think, and a bit." Dean says through small giggles, straightening their stance and appreciating the newfound warmth spreading through their cold and heavy limbs.

Sharky guffaws at their casual tone, obviously impressed by their ability to carry the heavy sack that far and not have their arms fall off. He mutters something about witchcraft as Dean sits back down on the log, removing the many straps and weapons on their being and placing them on the ground beside their bow. They watch their friend with an amused gaze as he pulls the wild boar from the sack. He looks down right annoyed and they hear him mutter; "Small my ass—" before he stands and walks back to his hut.

"How've ya been anyway? James didn't say much last time he was here, just that ya were working on a new uh, thing." Sharky returns with one of his larger knives, swinging it as he makes a vague gesture with his hand. Dean watches his hand carefully, knowing full well he was capable of cutting a finger off if he wasn't paying attention.

"I've been fine—busy—designing a new freeze, the one we've got's starting to crack and the meat's thawing too fast." They reply, keeping an eye on Sharky's hands as he begins to skin the boar less then precisely.

"And you?" Dean asks, trying not to wince every time they saw the knife flick upwards jerkily.

Is there a transition in your fic you're proud of?

I'm actually horrendous at transitions, i'm the writer that goes "After a while they got to the where they were going," or puts a text divider if I really need a big time skip. I'd like to test out more artistic ways to transition but that'll have to wait </3 So anyway to answer the question not as of yet no.

What is your favourite relationship featured in your fic aside from the main couple (if you have one)?

Okay so in every fc5 fic I write Dean, Sharky and Hurk's friendship is like. My favourite thing to write ever. They are the goofiest dumbasses on the planet and Dean loses what little braincells he has left when he's with them. They are the ride or die gang in almost every au and I just love them your honor. (Also goes without saying Dean and the kids ! Good dad and epic kids dynamic my beloved)

And also Nick and Kim will forever be my fave canon couple and I love when I get to write them in a fic <3

i really, really love the characters themselves—most of the major players have lots of layers and feel a lot more real than in other series. like, for as much as i like other series, yuuji is one of the best shounen protags i’ve seen in a while, and while jjk’s treatment of women isn’t great, i like how it lets them feel and be flawed and complex and be able to genuinely rage. equal-opportunity meowmeowification. in a similar vein, there’s also the way the series subverts a ton of common tropes, and one of my favorite examples of this is sukuna. he’s not here to deliver sarcastic quips and slowly become fond of yuuji; he’s here to cause problems and commit murder! he’s a real, terrifying threat, and it’s established right off the bat that he is not fucking around and will likely be the final big bad. and i love that!

i also really enjoy analysis and this kind of thing gives me a lot of material to latch onto.

i get attached to characters super easily. yuuji will always be my Boy my Guy my Dude but some other top faves are—in no particular order—megumi, nobara, maki, gojou, and getou, which is. very predictable if you’ve seen me talk at all, but if i think about their respective storylines too hard i start getting the urge to chew through concrete. I Love Literary Devices <3

i think my favorite arcs so far have been the yasohachi bridge arc (characters going berserk and having the time of their lives my beloved), the yuuta vs yuuji arc (does that count as an arc?? anyway yuuta’s entrance slaps and just. the vibes, man. the fresh dynamics. also chousou <333) and perfect preparation (roaring rampage of revenge is, tbh, one of my favorite tropes in general, and jjk delivers so well). i also reread star plasma vessel now and then but that one mostly just makes me sad so fnsnfksjf

also just like. i’m not 100% sure what it is about jjk specifically that made it lodge in my brain, especially because i finished it and went, “huh. that was kind of cool i guess” and then fast forward a year and a half and it’s one of the only things i care about, but i think it might’ve been a situation where i came for the plot and stayed for the characters. as in, i’m fully invested in where the plot is going, but it’s yuuji & co. that really got me hooked.

while they’re all totally different genres, something similar happened with most of my other favorite series over the last few years: i had zero interest in volleyball but i was completely sold on haikyuu within two episodes because of the MCs and their rivalry; the untamed/grandmaster of demonic cultivation has a few glaring plot holes but i literally could not care less and can go on for hours about the MC and his family; and wanting to know what happened to the MC of chainsaw man helped me power through the last few arcs when it just became one gut punch after another.

tl;dr i love it when there are Guys in Media.

Gonna write my top 5 favorite episodes outside of s5, but first! honorable mention to real orangins, a delightful season 5 episode in which Robin describes his own version of the Teen Titans backstory with a wonderful mix of story humor and of course, lovely art, the switches between art styles ttg does on occasion is always great as they pick such nice other styles! I enjoy how each one represented their character, and I appreciated robins effort to make the characters all in character in a way that felt accurate to them. Pretty much every joke in this episode landed, and the jokes all utilized the characters known traits greatly, you can def tell Robin knows his friends very well. Usually what you expect from a Robin story is lies- starfire being in love with him, the team all listening to him right away and respecting him, etc, but this story was somehow both vaguely flattering to Robin while also being very consistent with the characters real personality’s in a way I really enjoyed. As a whole this episode had good story, good jokes, and most importantly utilized my favorite aspect of the show, the characters, fantastically! I love any episode that highlights the characters themselves, so each having their own dedicated section here was obviously going to be very enjoyable for me.

This episode would be on the top 5, I just want this to be a seasons 1-4 top 5 since I’m not done with season 5

5. Campfire stories: I enjoy this episode for very similar reasons to real orangins (you will see this in my number 4 pick as well because it’s a trope I enjoy in ttg, but not in the top 3), the reasoning being mainly the individual focus on the characters. In this episode, the titans are going camping, and struggling to get the others excited about it, Robin suggests campfire stories which, much to his shock, excites the other titans! This episode goes between each of the titans telling their own campfire story, each shown in a different art style meant to match the character and their story. The stories all delve into the individual characters personal minds and help represent their own lives, interests, and fears. This is pretty on the nose because this is a kids show, but it’s still something I really enjoyed! All of the stories had their own charm and fun to them, and the scenes between the stories also had their own great comedy to them, so as a whole it was just an episode I absolutely loved!

4. Dreams: just like campfire stories, this episode involves a section for each Titan to have a smaller story, but this time, in the form of their dreams! Once again, a very fun delve into each of their psyche, and of course lovely jokes and style! Starfires pet silkie’s dream definitely elevates this episode to the strength it has, but literally the whole thing is delightful! I also enjoyed getting to see their sleeping positions lol, very varied and of course, specific to their personalities, because yeah can not emphasize enough I just really enjoy this shows characters /lh.

3. Animals. It’s just a word!: im a pet regression and kin, next question- I kid I kid, I mean that’s def the main reason sgdhshfjgk but it is a good episode in concept and writing! In this episode, the teen titans chastise beast boy for not being able to control his animal urges, but then, due to severe injuries, the titans get a blood transfusion from beastboy, giving them the ability to turn into animals! With some of beast boys biology they gain a better understanding of beast boys feelings (YES. Bb is my fave fuck you they shouldn’t be mean to him ever /j/aff) and also dog Robin, cat starfire, parrot cyborg, and fish raven my beloved. The ability to shapeshift unfortunately wears off as their bodies heal, but they still feel and act like those animals they were to a pretty significant extent, despite still being humans and talking and stuff. Once again: I am otherkin and a regressor, do I even need to further explain why I like this one? Anyways yeah they do silly shenanigans, starfire knocks cups off the counter, they flush raven down the toilet cus she “died” (she was taking a nap fish mode just made her look dead as hell), bb teaches them how to act human when you got that funky fresh animal dna, lots of fun stuff. Anyways raven is fine she just became a super strong mutant in the sewers and she saved the day in the end. As a whole, I just found this episode cute, when I explain this episode I kinda feel like it sounds weird but I do not particularly care. Some of the humor is eh because it’s a beast boy centric episode, but hehe animals go brrr

2. The Cape: DUDE I FUCKING LOVE THIS EPISODE. ITS SO GOOD. The whole thing is just using footage from the first episode of the original teen titans show but dubbing it over and it’s so funny dude sob they literally make it so stupid man, the reason it’s called the cape is because they make the whole argument plot about how Robin has a cape and thinks they’re cool and cyborg doesn’t like it’s just. It’s a really good episode trust me bro it’s so dumb /pos

1. Caged Tiger: this is a very fun of the mill episode but I’m biased cus it was one of the first episodes that i just loved like, every second of it. Just a typical fun episode of ttg, and that’s what’s great abt it. I enjoyed the shenanigans with the boys being trapped in the titan elevator, they’re the best and their part of the episode was fucking delightful, and I love loved doctor light in this episode, it was so nice seeing him just talk abt his life and stuff and hang with the girls, their part of the episode was just so lovely and enjoyable to watch! As a whole it’s just a personal fav of mine, that’s all! ^v^

Hey, Happy New Year!! I wish you had been on the Glee fandom back when the show was airing; you'd have encouraged me to try to see things differently with your metas instead of just dismissing every one-shot character or absurd plotline that never went anywhere. You certainly gave me a newfound appreciation for certain chunks of S3 and S4-S6 as a whole. And your fancy gifsets are *chef's kiss* too but I guess they could only exist in the 2020s so thank you (and all the other gifmakers) for being here and keeping the fandom alive with this new giffing style bc it must take so much time and effort to make them look so gorgeous.

So anyway could you please rank the Glee seasons? Based on whatever standard you'd like - personal preference/enjoyment, whether the year was a good one for your faves, the actual writing and whether the plotlines were well-executed, etc.

Hey Anon, Happy New Year to you too! This was such a kind message, thank you so much. To be honest I don't wish I was here then haha just because I know how intense it all was and I would have burned out so quick. And I think we need this distance from the show to be able to analyze it in such ways. But! I'll take the compliment of course and I'm very happy if my ramblings can bring about new perspectives and appreciation. That's more than I could ever ask for.

And thank you for the kind words about giffing, too! It's become my primary way of adding to this fandom recently and it's always nice to see it being appreciated. I still maintain that I only do it because I want to and it's fun, but feedback is nice of course.

On the topic of Glee seasons, well I have a feeling that'd be a different ranking every day so take this as a very fluid list. It's also a mushed-together one because I kinda wanna consider several aspects, my personal enjoyment as well as what we'd call "good writing" in a more, though not completely objective sense. I'm happy if I can encourage appreciation for seasons 4 to 6 if only because it really irks me when people pretend there's a clear-cut divide in quality, though on previous lists I've also ranked the first three first and the later seasons last. So with that in mind, strap in:

Season 2

This is the easiest to decide. Season 2 is that sweet spot, imo, where we still only have three writers and therefore a semblance of consistency but it feels like a larger world with more developed characters than season 1 did. There are issues, sure, and I could go on and on about major gaps in all Glee seasons. But season 2 feels the most like Glee, to me. There's infighting and an overall arc and fun one-off themes and tributes. The focus is still too Finchel heavy and the Wemma drama throughout is meh, but those are general problems in Glee. I feel like, more than any other season after it season two has a beginning, middle, and end, and some of Glee's strongest character arcs. Scratch that, in Kurt and Santana we get the two strongest arcs of the series. And the way Karofsky's story builds on and makes both of these better, chef's kiss. And the whole Glee club feels much more like the dysfunctional family they are and there's more of an effort to include every member. Basically it's my fave and imo, the best, for many reasons. We could get more in-depth with this one day.

After no.1 is where we start going "Idunno" but I'll try to establish a ranking.

2. Season 4

I'm not sure if placing season 4 second feels quite right but ranking the other seasons above it doesn't, either. Look, it's a very flawed season of television. There's a clear shift between the two halves. For the better, but still. Santana took way too long to go to NYC. The most fascinating dynamics happen in two lines of dialogue and then entirely off-screen. The Lima-NYC split was not thought through. But it's by far the season where I can tolerate and even like Finn the most. It's arguably Santana's best. It brought me the newbies, my beloveds. Amazing group numbers. The best the New Directions have ever been as a group. Good one-offs, some crimes against humanity, surprisingly few duds. Will fades more and more into the background, bar wedding drama. No clear direction or purpose but a vibe of ND becoming a new sort of family and the alumni struggling. Waaaay too many characters and the season is worse off because of that but, somehow, it still kinda works. It's a ride.

3. Season 1

Sigh, listen, season 1 is the big struggle for me. If I muster as much objectivity as I can, it's the best-written and generally well-put-together season. Even when the back nine changes direction a bit, it's still a much more cohesive unit than even season 2. It's a good season of television. It's also one I saw all the way back in 2010 and said "uhm, no thanks, that was fine but I don't need more Glee." It's missing that je ne sais quoi, imo, that makes Glee truly great. And maybe truly bad, too, but that's part of the show's appeal and I still find season 1 one of the least engaging whenever I watch it. And there are many reasons, from my infuriation with the disproportion of singing to Finchel shenanigans to Quinn's storyline, and, of course, the lack of Santana. I still rank it in the top 3 just because I can't overlook how strong it is from a purely, this is good TV perspective, but make no mistake it's far from being among my personal faves. Deffo not the one I wanna be rewatching the most. It's so good in some aspects but I know what else Glee can be and yeah, that's messy and makes my blood boil but at least it makes me feel so much more than the Finchel features and Finn-Will bonding moments of season 1. Based on this you might think I should rank it lower. Maybe I should. I think I'm just being so hard on it because I know it's considered to be the best by many and it's just, not that for me. I only put it in the top 3 begrudgingly.

4. Season 3

Season 3 is impossible to rank and I feel bad putting it above season 6 but I can't lie and say it didn't have good stuff. I'm actually really curious to find out what parts of it you appreciate more now because of me haha because I feel like I'm always so hard on season 3. Because it sucks. I hate s3A so much. It pisses me off like no other season. But damn, it has the good stuff too. Some of my favourite GCVs, for starters. Nationals, graduation. All the nostalgia and sting of that. The underdogs winning. The end of an era. So much more Santana. (Soundtrack-wise, anyway.) The Troubletones. What did it cost? Everything, but we got it. There's a clear arc, it just takes a million detours. The most controversial season for me, personally. I wish it never existed. I wish it was so much better. I'm a different person for having witnessed it. Everything wrong with Glee but maybe everything great with it, too. The new writers? Not a great idea. An inevitability. Season 3 is a dumpster fire and quintessential Glee, dare I say even the peak of it in some ways. It makes me wanna choose violence. We should move on.

5. Season 6

Sweetie I'm so sorry for ranking you so low, I'm usually a season 6 defender. It's been too long since I've seen it to confidently be able to say that it's good, though, and it just very much feels like the swan song it is. I'll be completely honest, it's also the lack of Santana for me. Sure, she gets her own arc on the side but I'm not a 100% happy with how they bid her farewell and any given episode of Glee is just way less appealing to me without her in it. But putting the Santana of it all aside, season 6 fully leans into the insanity of Glee in its final season. It's also a breath of fresh air, of postmodernity and a new generation and goodbyes that feel as authentic as they could be at this point. It's... like a post-finale. It's surprisingly real about the concept of the aftermath. A fascinating case study of the show's identity, its underdog obsession, what it means to deconstruct that. It's also just a bit boring, innit, compared to earlier shenanigans. But still, season 6 defender over here.

6. Season 5

I really didn't think I'd rank season 5 last, again, because I always used to and I actually appreciate it a lot more these days. But it's a case of not wanting any of the others to be last. Season 5 seemed like as good a sacrificial lamb as any. I think it's that, much more than season 4, it doesn't feel like one season, not even like one show. And it's understandable, of course, because production and the people behind it went through hell when Cory died. Looked at through the lens of grief, it's a fascinating season. And there are aspects I really like but aspects I despise, and unlike season 3's controversy I also find a lot of it just dull. Now, this might change when I eventually rewatch it but as it stands I just don't feel as strongly about wanting to defend season 5 and I do season 6. It's great when it's great but it's lukewarm so often. There are also way too many character assassinations happening and part of me will never forgive dropping the newbies like that. And all of me will always be mad about Santana's/Naya's treatment in season 5B.

okay so number 1 on this list has to go to @amjustagirl my queen of imagery literally all her metaphors are SO well thought out im in awe everytime i read something of hers 🥺 if i had even a smidge of her talent i promise you i'd be looking for a career in creative writing by now

a very close number 2 would be my beloved @ufo-ikawa i havent read her recent fics but i can tell you now without hesitation that if you have the time & capacity to be flooded with emotions (unlike me </3) i would recommend them to you with my whole heart (for lovers who hesitate, commas of care, this summer i..., the world starts and ends with you!)

spot number 3 goes to the one and only @sakusins who had me reading fics for characters i didnt even know like no joke shes insane she singlehandedly got me to watch & read tr and she's the only person i'd ever read hanma & gyutaro from

number 4 is none other than @heich0e i got pulled in by her haikyuu fics but i learned she's also crazy good at writing aot and has an aot longfic in the works so i read the few snippets of it that she posts and suddenly im at s3 in just 5 days🧎🏻‍♀️

fifth is shared by @sourstars bc if nikki jie was brilliant at weaving imagery throughout her multichapter fics, pandora is incredible at jampacking her metaphors into shorter pieces without losing any of the emotional impact

and also @chimielie bc i love the way lia writes reader and how lovesick the boys always are and she has such a unique writing style that i do not have the vocabulary to describe but i would bet that if you let me read one of her fics without showing me her url i would probably be able to tell it's her

and because i am literally incapable of shutting up here are other writers whose masterlists i havent gotten the chance to go through but you can bet your life savings ill be spamming them with rbs if i survive the semester

@eightonenine's osamu and omi pieces have my heart in a vice grip but i also would read tsukki and hirugami just for her

@sunkeiji sayu has stopped writing but as long as she doesnt suddenly delete her writing blog impulsively i WILL go through the rest of her works bc theyre always so sweet :(

@shinunaki has me reading for characters ive never even simped for before (kagami, goshiki,, aran,,,,and i have a feeling shion soon teehee) and now im at least a litol bit in love with them after reading just one fic from him

@augustinewrites she writes such a wide variety of fics and every single one of them is so cute and unique and appeals to my tiny lil heart one day ill sit down and read her entire masterlist in one go dont even try me

@kentoangel roma's fics are always so full of love it is impossible to read her pieces and not be buzzing with serotonin in my veins by the end of it

@nakizumie cant wait to read her older works bc ive only read her newer ones and i just know all her stuff is gonna be so good i can feel it in my bones

@aominology has these really long bulleted fics and other long fics that ive been dying to read bc her drabbles are already have me clutching at my heart

@kairakeiji bc she is a master at switching povs so subtly and the boys are pining SO hard it makes me yearn but also reader loves them just as much which makes it so sweet :(

@duino is another underrated longfic writer she includes so many subtle details that all add up to just fill my whole being with happiness and love by the end of it

@luvbub you know how when reading hcs you might just skip to your faves and ignore those you dont simp for? yeah that's impossible when it's bub's hcs i literally cannot resist i end up reading every single character

@yurens bc she weaves words together so beautifully and her works are on the longer side too so i have to save them for when i can appreciate them properly (my beloved yurens if you dont want to be tagged pls let me know sobs)

@arhvste i think she went on a hiatus but then she came back and posted banger after banger like it was nothing she has the sweetest ways of showing love

@peachysamu i wanna read the stuff shes been posting on her new blog but also i am panic binge reading her whole masterlist on here in case she decides to delete this blog sobs

@ryesei bc everytime they repost an old work they're like 'oh this sucks' even though it does not, in fact, suck and i am eagerly awaiting the rest so i can finally (re)read them

and theres also @mysterystarz and @shoyotime bc ive read way too few of their works it is very upsetting that uni work dares keep me away from them >:(
